Husband needs to cancel work visa from old job to start with new company in AD. Is taking old company to court, Ministry of Labour told him he'd now be ok to work here for another company, he just needs to cancel visa. When he went to MoL to do it they then said they can't do it as it needs to be done in court. Needless to say he's getting different advice wherever he goes, some wanting a lot of money because they know he's keen to get things sorted. He's getting understandably frustrated as may end up having to return to UK. Has anyone had a similar experience? And how did you get it sorted? Thanks It depends if there is a case open at the MOL but you should be able to open a complaint against the company. Failing that its the court option as there are 2 sides to every story

When we joined Etisalat for TV/Broadband the minimal term was 24 months which we had no choice, crazy and insane when anything can happen here in UAE i.e. loss of job. This is still a concern and I believe that if you leave within 24 months you have to pay the remaining months. Has anybody else experienced this? Thank you Ladies... Have you actuallly spoken to someone at etisalat to see if you need pay a penalty ?

There is a teenage boy in my apartment building in Sharjah who is a complete nuisance. Every evening he hangs around the health club level. He bangs on the women's gym door very hard multiple times and runs away when you open the door. He once banged 6+ times while I was working out and he even went into the women's locker room and banged from that door also!! I lost patience today and told him to not go near there anymore or I would report him. Is there anything I can really do though?? He is maybe 14 and doing this since I moved in nearly two years ago. I don't know his name, which flat he loves in. Can I take a picture to show to security? He should not be doing this, and he never does it to the men's gym (I can hear anytime that other door even opens). So I get the feeling he is only doing it because he thinks he can get away with treating women poorly, and so far has. It's very frustrating, rude, and violated the women's privacy who use the gym. Inform the authorities

I'm really sorry that all this happened to you, a wedding day should never be so disastrous! I'm just wondering why you kept on trusting this wedding planner with all the red flags? If someone is ignoring my calls, coming up with lousy excuses, giving bad recommendations, etc.. I would've let them go right then and there and found someone else. Was it because you couldn't get a refund? I know the point of having a wedding planner is not to stress and just let them take care of everything, but with someone so sketchy, why not at least check that they're doing things correctly? I hope this doesn't come off as putting any blame on you, I'm just trying to understand how it got so far :( Agree with you expatkenz.

Hello ladies, My houseboy is going for his annual leave for 2 months. I am in desperate need for someone who can work with us for that period of time. Please let me know if you have any contacts or leads. Thank you in advance. The only legal way would be to use a cleaning company for the 2 months duration

Personally I'm a hardliner so my child wouldn't dream of arguing... but on the odd time there has been defiance the tablet is simply taken away and as for tantrums? Um no. They can go tantrum in their bedroom like a toddler if they wish and they will then be treated like a toddler. And if they continue to argue and tantrum and defy me then it's 24 hours without any gadget, want to continue arguing? 48 hours! Want to continue with that tantrum? Now it's all week...! Bedtime is bedtime and it's for sleeping, holidays or not. A later bedtime is allowed in the holidays but the same rules apply whenever that time is. Kids need sleep. When it comes down to it I am the parent, they are the child. My house, my rules since the day they were born. Respect me and my decisions and I will respect you and we will get along just fine. Disrespect me and there will be consequences. But I'm sure there will be lots of other mums on here that can give you other less authoritarian solutions... ;) Agree with everything you said ;)

Hi all, We are moving to Yangon in early August as my husband found a job over there. I would like to know if anyone lived in Yangon before and how to find a job there quickly. I am chartered accountant (ACCA) and speak fluent English and Chinese (Mandarin). Thanks for all your suggestions in advance. Maybe you could try a local forum ☺

Hi all, My DH got transfer his job into other company, and we (wife, 2 kids and maid) are under his sponsor. PRO in new company said he only need to transfer his visa only, while the rest of the family's visa are remain the same since DH is the sponsor not the company. We will have our vacation and my maid also will have her vacation soon, i just want to check if anybody experience situation like this that they can go vacation and return to the country with no hassle. My main concern is my maid that i don't want her to have any problem getting into the country after the holiday. If you can share would be great help. Thanks There was once a system to put dependents visa on hold until the main sponsor changed companies within Dubai, not sure if this is still a service immigration still allow. I also recall that a deposit of around 5k per person was required and you had to lodge the passports until the main sponsor finished the transfer, so no travel would have been possible until done. Do update us on how you get on : )

Hi am married with emirati national. I am 3rd wife. I just move here (dubai, al quoz) about few days ago.. We married officially legal in my country not in dubai. My question is : 1. Can i do attestation legal papers/ documents marriage to dubai law or court?? 2. If i have a child, then my child automatically uae citizenship or not?? Thankyou. In which country did you get married ? Malaysia You would have to get your certificate attested in Malaysia foreign affairs fisrt then get it attested from the UAE embassy in Malaysia then agian stamped from the UAE ministry of foreign affairs which is very simple once the first 2 steps are done. Only after that it should be accepted as legal in the UAE. What visa are you currently on ans who is your sponsor? You could always contact your embassy for advice on how to go about it also. With regards to UAE citizenship for any children it is not always automatic and has to be applied for after a certain time from my understanding.

Hi there. We are moving to the UAE in a couple of months and now are stressed out about packing and moving the whole house! We are told by the new employer that we will start to apply for the residrnce visa / permit once we arrive and it will take about 3 weeks. However, the international moving company is saying that in order to clear custom we need to have our residence visa / permit at least 1 week before the cargo arrives at the UAE port. This would mean that we will not get our container until 4 weeks after we arrive! This doesn't make much sense to me, especially because that I know some people choose to air ship their belongings which takes less than a week to arrive if shipped the day they leave their home country. Anyone here had the experience shipping when moved to the UAE? Is the residence visa/ permit required? Did you have to apply for it prior to your arrival? How did it work? Please help! Thank you very much! Hi, the visa must be stamped in the passport to clear your items from customs from my understanding. Your husband should get his visa first from the company, so he should be able to clear it if he is the person mentioned on the paperwork. ? All the best with your move Thanks Luluwings! Do you mean that employees should obtain their residence visa/permit before arriving to the UAE, and when they enter the country the visa will be stamped at the airport?? Our employer says we will start the application for that visa after we arrive, and it should take about 3 weeks...Did you or your spouse get the visa before or after arrival? I'm very confused because 1)the employer is a school with a lot of international hires so I trust they would not lie about this... 2)if this is how everyone is getting their visa, as they said, 3 weeks after arrival, how did everyone receive their international cargo, either shipped by air or ocean freight, in time? say, someone ships a box of belongings from the UK the day of departure, it should arrive within 1 week, but he/she will have to wait for another 3-4 weeks, until receiving the visa, to clear the box from customs? and 3) you are saying that the visa should be stamped at the airport, i assume you meant that we should have received it when we arrived in the UAE?? Then why would the employer say we can only apply for it after arrival... ah! what a mess! I hope you can help but I might need to call customs... Resident visa does not get stamped at the airport, as your employer has said it will take three weeks after you arive in the UAE is probably a good time scale to go by. You mention that you are packing a container, in that case it should work out fine for you with regards to timing. Some have to put there things into storage and have furnished accomadation until the paperwork is done as the customs policy states a RESIDENT VISA and EMIRATES ID CARD COPY must be provided to clear your items, im sure your shipping company would have already advised you of this :)

We are leaving Dubai and we have a lovely villa in Jebel Ali. 3 beds, plus maids room. We have to take up the garden and remove the fence and gate before we hand it back. It seems such a waste. If you want to take it in, it's available mid. June, you can have them for free. No Agents fees. The rent is Dhs 156,000 one cheque or Dhs 165,000 for four cheques. Please call Michelle on 050 4521192 if you're interested - soon! These villas are being demolished as reported in the papers ?

I agree with the comment above. You certainly need a license but I would advise you to directly contact the Free Trade Zone (100% ownership) as this way you save the fees of an agent. I have worked on both sides and now employed by the government and I can see that many agents are over charging for a service the government offers for free. Feel free to be in touch if you have any questions regarding the above. Make sure you get full information on the costs as they always like to surprise you with hidden charges in free zones. An independent advisor will know which free zones are better than others and will also probably know about the hidden costs ?

I'm afraid to say but this new site update is AWFUL!!! Just a few observations after a minute on the site: Each thread title is in it's own huge box which looks awful and you have to scroll and scroll, There is an advert in the middle after about 6 threads which is just annoying, Trying to sign in is a nightmare, couldn't click on my autofill options as the box just disappeared and I kept having to click on the "sign in" box again, You can't see who is online anymore (as far as I can see). Agree, the old site was much better. Suppose they need you to spend more time on the site, forever scrolling so that the site visitor stats look good to get more revenue from selling commercial adverts ? Just my 2 dirhams ??

Absolutley correct for all of the emirates including Dubai, mother can only sponsor children if she is in the medical feild like Nurse, Doctor etc or Teacher. Not sure about engineering. Old sponsors may be allowed to carry on but new apps will not be processed.

Thanks Luluwings. My understanding is that they only fit the cupboards, can you recommend someone who can do the other parts? Your welcome halotime They used to do the the full fit as they supply the integral appliancies too, however not sure if that has changed recently.
