Just wondering if anyone else's company are still doing corporate/office iftars? 2 years ago we had a really nice booking at the Media Rotana for all our staff, then last year it was only for the Exec's. This year seems there isn't one at all. Guess we will have to organize one for ourselves!

Most massage parlours are not open to women if you know what I mean... There is a real one though across from DAA in the Pet Zone building-forget what it's called but have been there before.

Just noticed that More Cafe in Gold and Diamond has closed :( So sad, it was a favourite place!! Anyhow, I see that the branch at Al Murooj is still open so guess we'll have to start going there instead...

If she was working at a clinic then the clinic should have the file even if it was from several years ago. It shouldn't matter who does the test as long as it's a quality report with a qualified psychologist.

Seriously? It covers an emergency for 150k? I don't think that's a realistic amount at all. When you get any form of health insurance, you need to consider how much a potential emergency treatment could cost. If you have a look at the newspapers here, you can see that many surgeries and care can run the person into the millions. You should not skimp on something like health insurance. I would recommend a minimum of 1 million USD if you are to consider real emergency coverage. Then you can have true peace of mind for these people you are responsible for.

SEO is on its way out now because google has changed much of its algorithm over the past couple of years. So now they are giving preference to rich content that is authentic. Back links etc are no longer going to help you in the same way as before. I would recommend James Reynolds, he seems to be on the leading edge of all this new-fangled stuff. http://www.seosherpa.com/

I love Fitness First. I joined several years ago and pay 499 AED monthly for a continuous contract at the Platinum level. I go to different gyms depending on which fitness class I want. FF has the best range and schedule of classes hands-down and the instructors are excellent.

Yes I have 2 years back in economy. Very good service overall. I had flown with them before that in 2008 and it was abominable but then they rehauled everything and it was so much better.

I have organized really fun team-based "scavenger hunts" across the city before for my old workplace employees. It is very exciting and you can mix people according to any criteria you want. You can have really good prizes for the top 3 teams or whatever, depending on how many staff you have participating.

I know exactly what you're talking about. If you go to Carrefour in MOE, where the carpets are at the back, they have a whole host of these nice wallhangings alongside different tourist nicknacks. And they are very cheap prices for what you get. I'm sure you'll find some beautiful ones, I usually get several as gifts before going home. Good luck!

You can go see a doctor at a drop in clinic like Dubai London Clinic in Jumeirah Beach Road. They have an xray on site.

You can try Internations, it is a very active group in Dubai and AD, with events happening each week. Usually have casual events that cost about 50 AED. You can just google them and get their page. You can sign up to receive their regular events in your inbox.

I would not recommend Eton because it will take you awhile to connect to the language as they are not teaching you the conversational language. When you take the course at ALC, you can go out and about and hear conversations and then participate confidently. I had 2 friends try out Eton and then move to ALC. Some people who like to learn the written and grammar focus might prefer Eton's approach but I also preferred ALC and went up to the Intermediate levels. See if you can book the next one... good luck.

I too have found this particularly annoying, having been used to "Running Room" in Canada and the US. I have made peace with Saucony and Asics and I also noticed a "New Balance" shoe store somewhere here in Dubai. I always manage to find something, but you're right--the choices are limited. Good luck!

I think there was a discussion about something similar on Dubai Eye 103.8 in the last little while. Search on the website, they may have it posted somewhere--they usually record and post past shows. It might have been something about boutique hotels, etc. so I'm not sure it is directly related but it might cover trends away from big name hotel brands... A few years ago there was a French guest house that lasted only a short while but I'm not sure of the details and why it was closed. Sorry I can't remember the name...

Just went to see the amazing movie called "From Bombay to Paris" at Dubai Mall! It was produced by Oprah and Steven Spielberg and I have to say it was one of those movies that hits it on all levels-pulls at the heart-strings, a little comedy, drama, beautiful photography, acting and screenplay! Highly, highly recommend!

Hi Ladies, Still just wondering about Fitness First membership (Platinum) fees because my colleague says she pays 500 AED per month and another friend pays 450 AED, they are not with a corporate package. I was given a price of 525 AED. I want to join but of course I want the best price ;) TIA

Hi there, I would highly recommend Mike Hitchcock who works at Holborne Assets. I have to say he is just excellent--he sat down with me for about 2 hours and we went through my needs and budget and then he recommended me a plan that suited me perfectly. I have since renewed with him for the last 3 years. You could try calling him directly or emailing him. I'm sure he would consult with you first to find out what you need, etc. because he has different options, some of them allow you to pay in installments as well. Here are his details: 050 7381294 [email protected]

Hi, Can I ask if you have been under stress lately? Or as another poster mentioned, you may have an iron or Vit D deficiency. For me, stress was the problem. I had a horrible boss and I started to have all these kinds of physical symptoms. It would be the top of the list for things to look at if you have been living here for a long time and aren't adjusting to new situations. good luck

Thanks ladies! I was basically thinking of unlimited classes because if you go anywhere else, the classes will put you over the price of the membership at FF by a lot. I like to do classes 5-6 times a week. :)

Just to add another perspective, I had lived here for a few years and then this started happening to me. I hadn't done anything differently, except... for increase in stress! Some people largely underrate how much stress they have in their lives and so, this is one of the ways that your body tells you that you need to notice. After I started releasing all the stress, my hair started to come back and stay. Just do a quick audit of your stress, especially because you are new here and that in itself is one of the most stressful things: moving. Good luck.

I have 2 hairdressers that I go to. One of them is NStyle in MOE and I have been flabbergasted about this fact also that you have to pay 250 for the cut but then an additional price for the style after (ie: 150). I then got wise and told the hairdresser I didn't want to have the blow dry after but could she dry my hair. She said yes she would but it would be a simple dry (ie: no rolling or curling iron). So she dried my hair with a round brush and it turned out to be just as great as the full price I had paid before without doing this! So that is one way around it. Stylists don't usually want to let you go without seeing you satisfied with your haircut :) But my Lebanese hairdresser charges 200 inclusive of the cut and full style.

Try the 5:2 diet which is more like a way of life. You simply fast (eat up to 500 cals per day) twice weekly, eat normally during the week and you will be doing yourself a great deal of good! Check it out. Best of luck.

Dear Liahere--I would suggest you be proactive and work smart at the same time: Pick your ideal job, get in touch with the company and then offer to do some volunteer work there. Once a job comes up, if you were good and made an impression, then you'll be the only choice. I have seen this work for so many people, most recently an Iranian friend who moved to Canada and got a government job by doing this. You can still keep applying but I would suggest to make the most use of your time and skills. Good luck.

I remember reading about an article in Gulf News a couple of years back where parents had to buy books from the school who would mark the book up by 150%. So with all of the children paying for books, some schools were making a couple of million dollars just from this alone. And yet there was still no more money to increase teacher's salaries :( At some point the government in Sharjah stepped in and then regulated the fees that the school was charging per book. I hope this will happen for field trips as well.

Hi Ladies, My sister is a bit desperate for some help with her website. Seems she's having some problems with the person who was supposed to do some work for her. From what she says it's a fairly small job but she needs someone who knows what they're doing and are professional. I hope some of you can recommend someone trustworthy and professional who could help. TIA

Hi, I recently saw a great TED talk from a lady who has created a special diet with great success and has written a book called "The Woman Code". I was really impressed how she cured her PCOS symptoms and has helped other people too. Makes perfect sense and even though I don't have PCOS, I want to try adding some of the food she suggested, it's based on the different weeks of the menstrual cycle. Here's the link to the talk. Best of luck http://tedxtalks.ted.com/video/TEDxFiDiWomen-Alisa-Vitti-Lovin

Some nice designs, poor fabric quality but good if you want to re-copy the item because they are quite cheap.
