You mean the ones the size of cricket balls? I don't know if you can dine in but we've had them delivered from 7 Spice London in Media City. Their food's not cheap but it's the closest thing to a Brindian I can find. I loved Brick Lane in Barsha but we now live too far out for them to deliver. Their bhajis were a bit pants to be honest anyway. The ones from the cafe on Staniforth Road in Sheffield are the Best!! ;) Masterchef? Never been but my dad says they're gorgeous! We used to get our curry fix from a lovely takeaway in Kimberworth (yep, we moved across to Toytown ;)) Lots of dishes for around £10. Now we have to spend the best part of 120dhs. It's really annoying how British style curry houses here rip you off. I know authentic Indian restaurants are a lot cheaper but they're not the same when you're craving a tikka masala  Yes Masterchef is the one, the best onion bhaji's in Sheffield, also do amazing sandwiches. Always on the to do list when back home :) Have you tried Akbars on Meadowbank Road, very good curries and naan bread as big as bed sheets!! I've been to Akbars quite a few times! It's just a 5 minute drive from our house. Lovely place and yeah, the naans are massive

One of these days I'm going to point out a flaw of theirs to see how they like it. Childish? Yes. Worth it? Oh yes!

Mmmmm, mushy peas (and curry sauce!) Haven't been home for ages and won't be for a few years :( Rock n Sole Plaice at DIP isn't a bad chippy but they don't do proper fishcakes either ie not them rissole malarkeys. I hate mushy peas YUK Rock and Sole used to be good on Al Wasl but I don't think they can ever get the chips right here and their curry sauce was awful I make my own curry sauce with Jamie Olivers recipe and it tastes just like the chippy one at home How can you hate mushy peas ;) Coming from a seaside town with one of the best fish and chip shops ever, we've tried all over Dubai and nothing is ever the same twice. Hence cook my own :) Whitby especially :)

Sorry to hijack but I've just been on their website and seen that they're now doing risotto. Risotto?!!! Mind you, when they sell scraps as a starter and charge 5dhs for em who knows what's next. Deep fried Foie Gras?

Came out of the changing rooms after trying on something that was too small. Shop assistant shouts over to my husband "maybe she needs more exercise!" This was just before going on holiday after months of dieting  Could you imagine a Sales Assistant at home in Debenhams saying that LOL Haha! I do find a lot of people here speak without engaging brain first lol

Yorkshire folk some of the friendliest? Yep, definitely accurate (unless you're from Leeds mwahaha! :P) Oi, I resent that! Oi? That's not very friendly is it? To be honest though, I visited Leeds a few years back to go to the Rocky Horror Show. One of the best nights I've ever had :) Did you dress up? I had never seen so many men in basques haha Oh, yeah! I poured myself into a little white latex number (obviously pre Dubai TWO stone lol) There were definitely some sights. Watching middle aged men with beer bellies wearing thongs, sussies and stilettos is a sight to behold  I wonder if the UAE will ever be ready for Dr Frank N Furter..... <em>edited by Made in Sheffield on 25/03/2015</em>

Yorkshire folk some of the friendliest? Yep, definitely accurate (unless you're from Leeds mwahaha! :P) Some of the comments on the article about Yorkshire folk: "load of **** - the Yorkshire people are the most miserable, unhelpful cantankerous people I have had to come into contact with!! - "I would fully agree, Yorkshire folk are so ****** miserable and tight. The countryside is lovely and it would be a great place if we could only get rid of the locals". Haha!!! The money thing is definitely true. Sheffield city centre is full of pound shops. <em>edited by Made in Sheffield on 25/03/2015</em>

I’m married, nearly 40 and haven’t got any children. We wouldn’t want it any other way. We like going out when we want and not having to plan every last detail. In my 20s and 30s I kept waiting for the maternal instinct to kick in but it never happened. When women used to visit work with their newborns I was always in the background feeling awkward while everyone was cooing and having a cuddle. One thing that does annoy me while I've been over here is the amount of times I’ve been asked if I have children and when I say no they look surprised then give me a pitiful look. I’ve actually been told by 3 people to visit the doctor and get checked out, the cheeky mares! I'm glad we have never been pressured into starting a family by our parents, I know that happens a lot and must be awful. On a totally selfish note, I don’t think I could cut the booze out for over 9 months anyway.

On my way to a medical appointment: Phone rings Hello ma'am - can we change your appointment time to an hour later? That is not convenient as it am on the way to you and have another commitment later that I cannot move. But the doctor is not available to take your appointment. Well I cannot take the later time as I will not be available. Can we move the appointment to another day when we will both be available. Yes ma'am, that is possible. Arranged a new date and time - lovely, until.... Sorry ma'am I will have to charge you AED 200 cancellation fee for today! Genius. I've got to ask, did you pay it? Mine is nowhere near as funny as all these but a bloke who came to 'fix' our AC asked me if I had an empty bucket of water he could use...

Oh and - 'on' and 'off' as verbs ('on the tap' or 'off the light' for example) And 'too' for 'very' and 'disinterested' for 'uninterested' - in both cases the words have perfectly good meanings, which are not the same as the word they are replacing. I hate that too! Also people at work that have an 'off day' instead of having a day off, grrr!

Kindly do the needful. Please revert. Your good name. My dear. Maamsir. Round the backside. Shifting (as in "I'm shifting to Dubai"). Please reply on the same. 1 dirham ma'am? Give me. Tell me. Sir (when addressing you in an email even though they know you're female). Avail this offer. Kid (when used in advertising eg. only 20dhs per kid) it sounds so unprofessional. All of above are mainly Dubai-isms but there are some others that really get on my nerves... Ax instead of ask. Anyways. Super (as in super excited, super busy etc). Awesome - when not used in its proper context, this is the worst word EVER! I HATE IT! Think I'll go for a lie down now. edited by Made in Sheffield on 17/11/2014 <em>edited by Made in Sheffield on 17/11/2014</em>

The woman's visa title is "Domestic Servant", which encompasses all aspects of the home, including childcare. Therefore, the OP has the right to call her a nanny. Domestic servants are the government's answer to childcare for working mothers here. I definitely don't think I'd feel easy leaving a child in the care of someone who only has knowledge of cooking and cleaning ie. not a nanny. As a side note, how awful and demeaning is the title of "Domestic Servant"? Sounds like something from the 1900s. It certainly shows what the country thinks of people who are employed in this line of work :(

I remember that happening a few years ago too. Do they still only sell it in Sheffield / Yorkshire? Just been on their site and it gives you a list of suppliers http://www.hendersonsrelish.com/wheretobuy.htm Most seem to be in Yorkshire but there are a couple down south as well.

Mrs13b - if you know which building you want then just go into the building speak to security and find out who the building management is. Also ask them if they know which apartments are available, or becoming available. If the building is fully occupied (I have no idea, never heard of cayan tower) give the security guard a hundred dhs to keep you updated on anyone vacating the property. Also a quick google would have given you this details: Cayan Homes Real Estate Broker LLC Cayan Tower-Dubai Marina Ground Floor Tel: +971 4 3699910 Fax: +971 4 3605112 P.O.Box 643731, Dubai, UAE I think Cayan tower is the twisty one that was oringially called Infiniti That's the one! My husband and I called it "the twisty building" for ages before we found out the real name. Thanks again for the help, have spotted a few apts listed on propertyfinder.ae and will be booking viewings asap =) We call it the twisty building too. Cayan Tower sounds so boring in comparison!

Quite a few of my colleagues who have English as their first language make so many mistakes when they write. Not only spelling, but sentence structure. I would have thought that speaking the language, you would automatically know sentence structure. For example, what is with this 'would of'? When I see jobs advertised with 'native English speaker' as one of the requirements, I have to smile. 'Would of' gets my goat too! It's only made an appearance in the last couple of years though. I wonder why people have started writing like that. Also the wrong use of your, you're, there, their and they're. It really frustrates me! I get what you're saying about the 'native English speaker' thing as well. I take it companies only want people from England then, not Wales, Scotland. Ireland, Australia etc. *Shakes head in bewilderment*. <em>edited by Made in Sheffield on 12/11/2014</em>

When me and my husband were in Turkey, us and a couple of mates we'd met went in to use the hotel's sauna. We were sat there with full swimmers and towels on when some Germans came in. All was ok til they totally stripped off. One of the women then sat opposite my husband with her legs akimbo! Of course, with us been British, we started mumbling something about the weather then made a hasty exit

Add to that, the adverts that ask for thin, beautiful applicants aged 18-25 and only CVs with full length photos will be considered. I once saw a vacancy that required a female PA that had to be 'slim in body, able to travel with the director, open minded but private'.

Think I have seen some Thornton toffees at Waitrose Marina Mall as you walk to the checkout recently?? I've seen the normal Thortons toffee but not the chocolate coated stuff. Love my Double Deckers. So glad that Park n Shop sell them! BTW, what's with the 'Mackintosh' Quality Street over here? I know they used to be the manufacturers before nasty Nestle got their hands on them but how come they're branded with the old company name and the flavours are sooo boring? They're nearly as bad as those tasteless Jewels, eurghh! I will finish my chocolate rant by asking, why can't you get Thorntons chocolate coated toffees here?

I had a massive crush on Phillip Schofield in the 80s (still do BTW, he's got better with age!) He was opening a new bowling alley so my dad took me to see him. One of my friends fancied him as well so asked if she could tag along. When we got there they let 3 people in to actually meet him. My friend, somehow, managed to be 1 of the 3 and their photo was in the paper the day after. I was gutted! It still annoys me after all these years, not that I'm bitter or owt lol.
