Another vote for Al Jabeer, we just went to their Dubai mall outlet, and had a great experience. They now run have great promotions or, alternatively do -25% for Metlife card holders, maybe other insurers too. I myself went to Magrabi Dubai Mall one year ago, I did find glasses but paid really over the head, was offered no discount at all for 2 expensive pairs of spectacles and had quite mediocre service overall from their manager. I also had issues with Esiilor brand coating at Magrabi.

It seems very far indeed. Speaking from experience, school busses for GP are basically poor quality and carry lots of children, they are slow and noisy, and altogether it is not a pleasant experience. I know a child from Jumeirah 1whose bus picks him up at 6h15 am!

Bump! Dear Ladies, planning a camping trip and would like to know: - is it possible to pass the border with Oman without hotel reservation? - is mid May ok or too hot? - are there waterfalls all year round or only in cooler months? Any other tips, many thanks!

Does anyone happen to be selling any Julia Donaldson tickets for the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature? My little boy is such a big fan! Sadly, they are sold out. I'm looking for 3 tickets, thank you! edited by Kaba on 23/02/2015 Hello, I might have only one ticket as one of my children can not go, how could I contact you?

The process is straightforward and secure through the Land Department, who register the sale and issue a title deed instantly. Before the sale, the seller has to obtain a NOC from the developer, i.e. he is up to date with charges, and no outstanding issues. You can go through an agency, but in my opinion, it does not add any extra security, or service, if the developer is trustworthy (the example I know is Emaar). If you have a mortgage, a bank employee will be present at Dubai Land department during the sale to hand over the cheque corresponding to the loan. It is difficult to advise whether one should buy or not, it is all down to personal circumstances (how many years you plan to stay, ect...), however it is wise to buy from known developers, doing this you can also secure a better mortgage. Hope it helps!

We had a brunch at Kitchen 6 and really did not appreciate the fact they applied the Entertainer voucher to a kid's meal instead of an adult meal, which is discriminatory towards families. Neither did we appreciate how the management responded.

For those who might be interested: just came back from Abu Dhabi and we loved this festival, highly recommended with and without children. The doors open late (4pm), but you still have time to wander around different sections: Sea, Desert, Abu Dhabi... to learn many things about local culture, traditions and arts / crafts. Very interesting workshops for children and adults alike, local dance and music, camel rides, horse and bird shows, and much more...we were not able to do it all in one day. Overall, highly impressed with organisation and quality of the festival.

Hi Ding. I've been a few times and always sat on the terrace in the Samovar lounge. It's really beautiful with lovely views of the gardens. There's no view of the sea though as it's obscured by trees but the setting is fab imo. Also as the other ladies have said 1 tea between 2 people is ample! We couldn't even finish ours last week - made a good attempt though;) HTH We tried that one, quite disappointing. The setting is nice, but a very tiny selection of very average food. A much better deal at Atlantis. edited by Mania on 14/02/2014

Morning Ladies, may I ask Feefmick to, please, post if she has any news regarding the road closures. I have myself kids in Oud Metha and Academic city, and as we live very central, both stayed at home today as a result. I just phoned the school, they say they are waiting for instructions...

Just wanted to warn the families: when we used Entertainer vouchers for the buffet, they applied it to kid's meal, unlike all other hotels in Dubai. Which means their pricing is discriminatory towards families: if you are couple, you would pay around 200 AED for 2, if you have a child, it will cost you around 400 for three of you.

Dear Ladies, I have been searching for a while for a good carpenter to make a door to match others in the flat, and a plantation shutter. Please, let me know if you can recommend someone reliable and not priced over the roof (so far, I was getting quote around 3000 AED per door). Many thanks!

At that age I would seek out a small group of english speaking children for them to play with rather than formal lessons.... A little girl I knew spoke English, with German as a second language. She had a little friend who was the opposite, German first, English second. They used to have an organised play date at least weekly and were encouraged to speak only German. My son also has a friend who lives next door. He spoke Bulgarian only until September when they moved here. He had absolutely no English. Now (only 4 months later) he speaks reasonable English and can converse easily. They play together at least every second day and my son speaks only English. Yes, of course, it helps grearly, but for writing, grammar... we need formal lessons (children aged 5 and 7). Thanks for any recommendations! edited by Mania on 18/01/2013
