Sun and sand is really good. The Adidas outlet near the airport is good too, better for runners than running gear tho.

I have a love/hate relationship with it. I love seeing photos of friends and family. And some banter with friends every now and then. I do hate that i end up wasting so much time on it sometimes. Self inflicted i know! Bitstrips.... awful.... interesting to see how people see themselves though!

They tried in China before they Olympics to encourage people to be more polite, no queue jump etc but but it didn't work the Communist Chinese mentality that had been there for so long telling everyone we are all the same we are all entitled to same thing, somehow translated to everyone having the 'right' to get on the train at the same time and get off at the same time. Crazy. Can't imagine much success here either.

I know people who have a FB page for their pets!!! All of that is really disturbing......

You don't haev to unfriend people. There are plenty of optins to hide their posts or put them on a limited profile. Sadly some people have a habit of 'over-sharing'. People don't need to know what you;re doing every minute of every day. There's twitter for that! Facebook has a very different purpose now, to when it first started. It's just some people haven't evolved with it. you know what bugs me on FB lol.. married couple.. who live together.. and tend to talk to each other on FB.. that's what really irritates me lol.. for God's sake you guys are next to each other.. and yes i know they are because they are my friends and i know when one will be travelling but again i don't want to see love posts from you too. there is Whatsapp, sms, e-mail and other private messages out there.. i was once told by a friend (again i used to be friends with her) that why me and my DH don't communicate on FB why doesn't he send me anything.. i'm like because we live with each other and if he wants to share anything he would tell me face to face.. her response was like yea but people will think you are having problems.. HOW DO YOU ANSWER SOMETHING LIKE THAT..??????????? My marriage must be doomed my hubby isnt even on FB!! hahaha!

Unless its positive or constructive and i don't say anything. If you don't like something you don't have to say anything, why bring someone else down unless they are doing something wrong? A tacky photo is hardly worth being 'brutally honest'. As for people moaning about others checking in and posting photos, that is kind of the point of facebook sharing your life... if you choose not to fine but why complain about other people, unfriend them if you dont want to know. I have done this with several people some good friends especially people that like and share all those competitions, I dont want to know so i sort it out myself! Yes there are plenty of show offs but if you keep your fb to actual friends this probably wont be a huge deal. I wasn't moaning or complaining i was merely saying my honest opinion..checking in every place could be quite dangerous if you think about it.. especially if you have a stalker lol.. wouldn't that be freaky.. Sorry I wasnt directing that at you, i just hear the complaint a lot and while i get it, i just think get rid of them if they bug you! A friend of mine who i love to bits is very politically active and is always sharing stuff, i just had to unfriend him as i am not comfortable with that on my page and i prefer to keep it totally family friend orientated. I block all requests from work colleagues too. Re the stalker bit another good reason to keep the friend list short and sweet!

To me if your married even with separate bank accounts its still your money, this goes both ways. While the money would probably annoy me, DH lying or misleading me about it would be more of an issue. had he lied or mislead you? Has he agreed not to give him money? In saying that if my family needed money i wouldn't think twice and my DH would be more than happy to help. You must have a good reason for not wanting to give him money, i would try and have a calm convo and try and understand why your hubby is doing this and come to a mutual agreement. It shouldn't affect your relationship.

Bought ours on Dubizzle 2nd hand from The One, paid 3.5k, barely used. Had it for two years and its still perfect. It is so comfy, its my favorite piece of furniture! If have time you can get something lovely and save a lot. FYI lots of sellers say its from the one or marina etc.., check labels or ask for the receipt if they have it. (and turn over the cushions to check for stains and wear and tear) edited by mannikat on 25/11/2013

we know roughly when they are - if you want to utilise them, you can usually use common sense and take the days off on AL - We get 2 & 3 December off as National day - if you see it's a Mon & Tues, logically it will probably be moved to the Sunday - so it's really quite simple just to apply for those 2 days off as AL - and then claim back. I really do not understand why so many people get their knickers in a twist about this. For National day fine as its set, but say for Eid if i take extra days(even one) the whole lot comes out of my annual leave, so i can't plan in advance if it changes by a day i could end up losing 3 or 4 days, just for one working day. My company operates strictly as per labour law which allows them to do this.

Next Direct is great - hassle free! Just to confirm if I understood correctly - I put in my local card number/info and then just plug in the SnS address in the billing info section? No need to put in the Dubai PO Box billing information? If it wont take my dubai address that's what i do!

Hi Ladies, Just letting the ladies with kids in ET know i have seen a lot of nanny's letting kids play in the unfinished playgrounds out the back, this is really dangerous, its not finished, there is work still going on and a lot of workmen in the area. Not mention it is filthy as no one seems to be cleaning up the rubbish at the moment. Please don't let them play there it isn't safe.

You could buy a polaroid camera in the mall (Grand digital stores i think, the one that stocks nikon & fujifilm), they are about 250 for the camera and 50 for 20 film thingys. You could ask a friend to take them for you. They look fab, are wonderful for a scrap book and everyone loves the novelty factor!

Camera is a nice idea, but with all that has happened there recently she might prefer money that she can use to help her family if they have been affected? I don't know anyone that would give a gift like a camera to their maid so I'm sure what ever you give her she will like. if not the camera or money maybe an inexpensive smart phone?

Having a child in car without a proper seat and belt should be regarded as child abuse. Only front seat passengers must wear seat belts by law.... for such a family oriented country this area is so sadly lacking.... :(

It should only relate to pre existing conditions that you were aware of but had not declared as in if you had a chronic condition and had not informed them so they hadn't taken it into account when making you an offer. If you have a pre existing condition that you are not aware of or that has not been diagnosed you 'should' be covered. Once you have answer the questionnaire honestly and they haven't asked you to do a medical you should be fine. The reason i say 'should' is that insurance is a bit lawless even back home and they can be quite ruthless over t's and c's sometimes. If they wanted to be very nasty they could try an insinuate that you had symptoms previously but that is the worst case scenario.

When i am buying clothes online i usually use asos as they have lots of different brands, generally i will try the clothes on in the mall before i buy online. Or else i only buy from shops where i 'know' the sizes. This way i can have a consolidated ordered and I also try to met the min spend for free uk delivery so i only pay the s and s delivery cost. Fortunately i have never had to send anything back. A lot of uk brands are 40-50% cheaper online so even with the charges once i buy a few items i have saved a substantial amount. Re gifts etc... it can really go either way depending on the weight generally i go for it anyway as i am usually picking up items i cant get here. Sites like etsy and notonthehighstreet aren't overly expensive to begin with but if you buy something heavy it can get very expensive. Anytime i have gone for a larger item i have sent it home and picked it up on my next trip.

I think Beela's format is perfect. I sent something like this recently to a friend, i made one phone call to him when i was 17 and it literally changed the entire course of my life in a wonderful way. Maybe something this person did effected your life for the better, I'm sure they would like to know if they have influenced someone's life for the better. Good luck and I hope his remaining time is peaceful and happy. x

If they learn some lady like behaviour what harm? I had a 'Debs' but it was more of an excuse to get dressed up for a jumped up school disco. These girls look quiet elegant. it would be nice for them to learn they don't have to wear something tight and short to be pretty. And for charity all the better!

Hi lily, Have you spoken to anyone there? That really s*cks about having to pay those charges once let alone twice. Re getting your money back once you have evidence i think you will get your money back. When we moved i accidentally kept paying into the old account. i had updated the details on my online banking but after the initial payment it didn't save (i should have checked) kept getting bills and assumed their system was slow. I finally started checking my receipts to reign h*ll on them and realized my error. I send them the receipts for the incorrect payments and the account closure receipt and they issued me a refund no questions asked in about two weeks. I was wholeheartedly surprised at how easy it was. I think if you speak to them and send the evidence you will be fine. Good luck! edited by mannikat on 14/11/2013

If they guy is your friend surely you can look him up elsewhere like linkedin or facebook as others have suggested. Don't you have his number? I don't really agree that you are doing the wrong thing wanting to send him a card. There are two people in every marriage...I don't know the in's and out's but clearly you do and are still willing to send him a card so i wonder if its really all down to him? I'm sure if i was in his situation (even a man) would appreciate the gesture....

Tattooing pre-dates modern religion, the ones being discussed here anyway. Most of these religions either incorporated local traditions to increase conversion or out right banned things that could not be fully extricated from their origins. Tattooing is far more complex that vanity and idol worship....

I bought my car on dubizzle. I met the guy liked the car and decided to buy. Then we met at the ford garage to to have the car checked out, he had already mentioned the two things that needed doing and had told me how much he had been quoted so no surprises. Paid him a deposit in cash for security he gave me a cheque for the same amount (to hold for my peace of mind). I arranged for insurance he had to provide the mortgage free letter. Finally went to the RTA got the car signed over, handed over the rest of the money and gave him back the security cheque he had given me. From what i have seen friends go through i was lucky to buy my car from a decent person. Definitely get the car check out no matter who you buy it from. I did look in Al Futtaim but found them quiet expensive and they didnt have a large selection of older cars mine was 07. I wouldn't recommend 4x4 on szr under any circumstances. Of the cars you mentioned i would go with the Toyota's. Good luck!

Flying Eithad this year, very expensive(4200 each) but we didnt book until Sept. Usually we fly klm or air france and they have always been good, (hate the waiting in Paris or Amsterdam). Decided not to risk delays this year and skip the wait. Fingers crossed there are no weather issues! Our flight got cancelled 3yrs ago but we were lucky and got a BA flight via Jordan.. good luck! Hubby has flown saudi air but only to Saudi... he described it as basic... the main thing is you have a flight! Nollaig shona! edited by mannikat on 12/11/2013

Not in a position to comment re it being offensive or not. Just wondering if you have had it translated already? and if so does its meaning translate correctly? Often times the meaning of something like this can be literally lost in translation.

OP, I am so sorry to hear this. I have been in your position and it is not an easy place to be. I can't recommend anyone in Dubai from personal experience. But have used lifeworks since i have been here when i had ptsd and they were wonderful. They really created a safe space for me. Do you or your fiance have family support in Dubai? If you want to talk to someone who has some experience with this let me know and i will leave up my address for you to contact me.

Hey TDB, Really sorry to hear about all the stress you are having. i don't think you are being remotely unreasonable. If you are your friends and families organiser they are prob so used to you doing everything for them. I have friends like these and always end up sorting everything for them. When it came to the wedding, i thankfully had an awesome bridesmaid who took over this for me, she literally made stress free bubble around me. Are you having a BM? At some point you have to say no or say nothing, refer them to the invite and leave it. Although saying that i arrived on time for my wedding and had to leave for 10mins as 1/2 the guests hadn't arrived. if had my way i would gone in anyway. As for dress code its your wedding, they are your guest its not like they need to buy anything new or rent a tux. I hope you get hairdresser sorted. No matter what happens on the day from the moment you wake up just let it go. Yes you have decided to have this party for other people but its about you and your hubby so enjoy it. It really is wonderful to have everyone there for you. Someone will dress inappropriately someone will be late but it won't matter honestly :) have a wonderful day.

Zoco had the same thing this morning due to shift change time! FD we have used careem and they are great but just a bit pricey as hubby travels a lot. this was his first morning flight in awhile so hadn't realised the rule change. Its just annoying they way it seems to have changed suddenly for no reason. Surely the hala taxi's should be available for booking as they cant do street pick ups?
