Also why do so many children move? This I do not understand, yet i see it happen every year. Why do parents uproot children (sometimes mid school year) and join a new school. The same happened when new schools opened years ago, when parents left pretty established schools like DESS/JESS. A new school (no matter how well managed and funded), does need time to get their system ready. Be it working culture, staff rapport, PTA, logistics, ECA's etc. Yes, there are several moving to Nord right now, but it happens with every new school- Some parents rush for greener grass. - I still remember when DAA opened years ago and it was touted as the best thing then, then World Academy, Gems Wellington, Foremarke, and soon will be Hartland in September.

Are there community rules anywhere? You might want to ask to see the published regulations in which it is stated that sheds are prohibited. Everyone's trying to make a buck these days because [b'>Dubai is about to face a financial tsunami[/b'>. Could you please elaborate?

I'm assuming you are a pilot's wife. in which case do not move out! Not sure where you live, but if look around DSO, jumeirah , tons of superb communities. Rents are going up, and very soon you will be out of pocket, to get a house the same standard and perks like DEWA etc. Rumours are just that, Meydan will also get better, and they are pretty large. newbies are being put there.

I know that short-term lease has been introduced and approved by government not long ago. Why not try finding a place for a short term lease through and agency or check what's on Dubizzle. I know there are LLs out there renting their property for short term only that way you would not need to worry I only let out my property short term in dubai, and only do it through agencies. In this case, the OP is renting from a tenant not a landlord, therefore subletting. (illegal) It happens all the time in Dubai, and this is how hundreds of workers live in Karama/Satwa/Deira/IC etc. However, OP you dont have a leg to stand on if things get pear shaped. As lolacat said, you always have a choice- and nobody here is going to give you advice that could get you into trouble..

banks offer personal loans. check with your bank for your eligibility and rates. Getting a loan from the bank that your salary is transferred to is the quickest way. (if they approve)

you dont have a case. The landlord is giving you a 12 month notice, at the time of renewal. He can sell, not sell, leave empty or rent out- doesnt matter. As you got 12 month notice.

a permit to protest does not exist. historically, people who have protested in Dubai generally land up in jail or worse deported. I'm not sure what you want to protest about, but if you let us know, i'm sure we can offer you some other options to initiate change.

You can sometimes get Dewa done with the SPA but only if the apartment is in an area where the title deeds have not been issued yet (for some reason) or in DIFC where there are no title deeds. Where is this apartment? I think DU want to see the Ejari contract and to get Ejari you need the Dewa connection notice and the title deed................ DIFC has now started issuing Title deeds...

I lost with this thread and the directions it is taking, what's wrong with the article again? classic LC! The article is just a moan...it is pretty factual but yet very whingy. But i think to people who have been here long enough it seems petty. I personally LOVE dubai, and have made it my home, so part of living here does also include reading strange articles that show Dubai in a bad light, and EW threads that ramble aimlessly....

Thanks for replies. She's my sister in law. The mortgage account is in joint names but all the payments into it have been from my account. I want to get my money out of here so I can buy a property in my home country. She wants to hang on, thinks things will boom because of 2020 but I'm not really bothered. I want out. Thank you for that hint re the courts. Will check it out. Brother's wife? can he intervene? I think you need to do convince her, as she is the owner of the property, you could sell your 50% to somebody else though i guess? i would check that out with an agent.

Could you post how you are related to each other? - there is a section in the court that deals with this kind of disputes. It is called personal matters/personal status settlements or something... You dont even need a lawyer, you can go yourself and explain your situation. However, It may be best to use an older well respected member of the family to mediate (depending on your culture..) Why dont you try explain the volatile market, that prices are not climbing any more, and the peak has been reached, blah blah.. are you still paying mortgage yourself?, whose account does the mortgage go out from? Do you have proof that she has not contributed to the mortgage? Worse case scenario- rent it out, and keep the rental returns?

Vercrj, You cant change the past, and things are the way they are. At 11, he is still at a great age to start an instrument. Music lessons are also quite affordable in Dubai, if you look hard enough, you will definitely find somewhere that is affordable and effective. Also look for other activities that will improve concentration and focus, board games that will use mental mapping, try chess? Brain Gym? Several apps on ipad too i'm sure- totally free.

Yes, in theory it is the safest cheque. to be absolutely sure, ask for a copy of the cheque a day before, then check it out with the bank and see if the cheque is actually not forged. This is what i did when i sold my last property- the bank was helpful.

how old is he? Drums are most popular with boys. But, If you are looking at building focus and concentration, may i recommend the piano? (will make life at home much easier without a drum set!) It is easy (ier) to start, rather than a string instrument, and uses two staves of music, so children end up doing a lot more co-ordination and involuntary thinking. Piano- can also be taught using the suzuki method- although the traditional reading method would work well too.

There are several adult choirs in Dubai- Dubai Singers- Oldest choir in Dubai- used to do variety- now do classical music only. No audition necessary, they meet every monday night, 8 pm at Kindermusic Villa, Umm Suqueim, Near Kings school. http://www.dubaisingers.info Dubai Chamber Choir- Superb Sound- audition only, generally acapella, classical/modern music. Also meet at Kinder music villa, but on sunday nights. Dubai Harmony Singers- All female barbershop choir, fun choir- lots of doo wop wop, and dance moves etc. The philipino choir- are absolutely brilliant- but i think open to philipinos only? they do everything, movies, to show tunes, to folk. These are just a few, there are several little off shoot groups, that meet too- these choirs also have several sub-choral groups too...

I'm all for celebrating hard work. But how does one measure effort? Atleast with academics its pretty black and white. I think it probably gets quite blurry and the awards then are based on the teachers perception of how the child is doing. What about children who do work hard, yet don't appear to do so on the outside?

I think one would be slightly delusional not to realize that any removal from a family unit, be that a parent working away, parents separated or boarding school is not going to have some issue on various family members and children suffer in one way or another. But thousands of families do it and survive, cope and thousands of kids are fine, ideal no, but life rarely is. superbly put.

I usually only comment from a point of experience. Over supply, of apartments for example there are thousands of units released, and more soon. Drive around sports city, JVC, JVT, DIP, DSO and various other freehold areas. No there is no official data, with statistics and figures, except Dubizzle's report, but again there is no need. People who want to buy will buy. I have personally unable to get an appointment for three of Emaars latest launches, Opera Grand, Mulberry heights and the ranches extension. In the last one, i even opted for preferred access, (30% downpayment and no flipping clause), but sill no chance. That is proof enough for me that the premium properties offplan are oversold.

This debate is highly reflective of the market - [b'>opinion/perception fueled facts with little to no actual facts.[/b'> The expert expat. Not true. Several facts in this thread. 1. Prices are going up, in spite of over supply. 2. People who cannot afford it are leaving. 3. Off plan units still being over sold. 4. Dubai properties is still far cheaper than other world hubs.

When people leave, they will be replaced by those that have more money. Employers will increase wages and rents will plateau, On what basis would you make this assumption? Economics - upward side of the cycle - do you think Dubai has peaked and is now on a downward turn? We do not know details for every single company but taking one particular employer, which is one of Dubai's largest and arguably its best brand, there has been no substantial pay increase for the vast majority of staff and conditions and terms have become tougher over last few years. This at a time when it is doing very well in terms of profits. If one of the best is not willing to increase compensation and allowances, what chances most other employers will raise wages to keep up with the property market ? The answer is in your question. The largest and best brand in Dubai, can continue NOT increasing its wages, because it is the best brand. The company is making record profits year after year, and employees will continue to stay. If they leave, there are thousands of people all over the world who would be willing to work at the same package.

In response to whoever asked about the experience of buying property... I work in the legal side of property here and I would NEVER purchase out here. Even though the likelihood is that your rent is nigh in equal to a sizeable deposit of a house... It's not worth it. We're managing a bunch of failed transactions in a tower where owners are being told the building is being sold and even though they "own" those apartments they have no rights to the apartments. That said, if you have the money to throw away (and I don't mean that cheekily) then go for it.... edited by MrsEJR on 22/05/2014 I would rather 'throw away' money at my own apartment, than a landlord.

Our LL has been trying to sell our 4 bed in Meadows since January at a very inflated price compared to other properties on the market that have been upgraded/pools etc. He has reduced it 1.2 million and it is still not selling. We thought about buying it ourselves, but it needs a lot doing to it to make it 'home' which makes it even more expensive. Where I live in UK (Somerset - proper Countryside !) for the price he is asking I could buy a decent sized house in its own grounds. Lots of houses not selling around the Meadows and plenty empty and for rent too. 1.2 million aed for a 4 bed meadows? Please could you tell me how to get in touch with your LL?

if you have signed a vacating letter then you have to move out. I bet The new LL bought the property off only when your vacating letter was produced. I recently sold my property, and had to convince my tenant to sign a vacating letter. The buyer then was still unsure and wanted to wait for the tenant to completely before the property could be transferred! I had to persuade my tenant, with an additional 4000AED to speed up the moving out. TBH this may be going against the current mood of this thread - but tenants too are a nightmare- i'm not sure if i would rent out my apartment again, as evicting is a pain! Several buyers simply will not buy if the unit is not vacant! as it's way too much hassle (as proven by this thread!)

Just turn up for a class (first two are free!), then you will be able to see your level of fitness in a CF class. Then you could perhaps try two a week, if that is the only thing you can do. You will notice that the CF class, will improve your performance in all other groups that you attend! I've never done the challenge, but follow their diet plan and train atleast 3 days a week.

????? great sense of characters????? One of my best friends in the UK had to put her dog down at the weekend, he was no spring chicken and a much loved family pet that had spent the last 5 years playing with her nephew, until he attacked him Friday night. Thankfully the boy will make a full recovery, my friend could not have been more appalled at what happened. If you have children, surely the decision is a no brainer. Oh please. One bite, and the dog is not safe anymore? People recommending that long time family pets be put down is just absurd.

At my business, we get asked about nationality often, normally the desk is instructed to be as transparent, so the nationality is given away. Every now and then if i happen to answer the phone, then i do question, "why is that important?", etc. Normally, we lose the business of that call, as i eventually lecture, that no nationality can be stereotyped. What really matters is the quality of education, how one was raised and the individual standards that matter. Of course, we lose a lot of business when i answer the phone....hence i'm banned from phones!

I maintain ENBD and HSBC premier accounts. Both are good for different reasons, ENBD has good customer service at selected branches. Easy to use online banking. HSBC has superb interest rates for premier, and global transfers are free and a breeze. HSBC premier is also v good at customer service, and good (although very secure online banking) very annoying to use the fob devices to get into online banking.

If the cheque was written to a company account, then you have a case. I was in the same situation where a contractor ran away, but the money was only cashed by the company, so they are responsible. what is your closest police station? It takes several attempts, but eventually someone will listen to your story and lodge a complaint. i too was sent to courts, DED etc...but i wanted to lodge a fraud complaint.

Gone are the days of scandal and entertainment... It started when the maids moved into their own forum. And nobody seems to have such scandalous maids anymore where the scandals run on for days/weeks with us all on tenterhooks. It's all a bit dull really. I think it slowed down from an era of bannings and several threads getting deleted often yes, and it's awful trying to create new user names, and then you have to move up from virtual newbie status..all for just a few tongue in cheek posts or some good old fashioned rhymes...
