This is a tough one, as there are so many piano teachers in dubai. Different children respond to teachers differently, so one child may be excelling and the other may struggle with the same teacher. Have you tried asking the teacher what she thinks? I personally think that music lessons at school dont really work, as the child always misses what the rest of the class is doing. like numeracy, literacy or arabic (lessons that you are paying for) and by the time the child gets to the music lesson after packing up, or collecting books or changing after PE or swim, the music lesson may be in a totally different building, the 40 minute lesson is now 25 minutes. So progression over time is questionable. If your'e looking for a new music teacher and you're not musical yourself, always do ask for qualifications, experience, and do inquire about the teaching method they use. What exams do they do, like ABRSM or Trinity College of Music. Is theory done within the lesson? How many performances a year? Children having piano lessons, always normally also have a HW notebook kind of diary, it is worthwhile for the parent to look into it weekly, and ensure the child is practicing what the teacher expects. Who knows, a little bit of extra practice over the summer may help turn a corner with the same teacher?

My DS is doing his school play in a couple of weeks time. We got a letter saying that tickets will be going on sale from Sunday. I'm a bit surprised tbh, and I think it's actually quite cheeky of the school to expect parents to pay for tickets along with costumes. Is this standard for schools here? Yes, that's the way it's done here, i for one always believe that parent should never pay to see their own children perform, especially if the performance is in the school itself.

Strongly recommend that you contact The Fridge in Al Quoz -- they are a music management company that supplies the bands for many of the hotels in Dubai and also do tons of entertainment for weddings. We have worked with them and they are very professional as well as providing lots of music variety. i highly recommend the Fridge too, [email protected], they manage tons and tons of musicians and gigs, and will be able to easily match your style and taste. Congrats on the wedding!

Americanfamily, i have just finished my entire process at DSO, and it is actually quite easy to get set up. the most expensive and tiresome part is getting a space that you like, for the price you like, and one that suits your activity.

it depends on your activity, if it is a service, and you want just one branch, then perhaps you dont need to operate out of the freezone right? i have just set up in DSO freezone, and it is fabulous here!

i second that many banks do not call and confirm before they bounce a cheque. It is SO ANNOYING having to follow up, and they also threaten to charge 200 aed for a returned cheque. I am a landlord too, and i would do everything in my power to resolve this without the involvement of the police. I know of someone whose tenant could not pay, and then the police did put him away eventually, as ALL the tenant's cheques had bounced, cars, dewa, personal loan etc. But by being in jail, he simply could not even try to pay or sort the mess out, so eventually the landlord had a house that was full of the tenants stuff, with the tenant in jail. This cost more over the months and a lot of grief to all.

I just want to know if others have experiences the wrath of DSO - ????? We moved here just one a month ago and have been told off over eating at the pool parking on OUR drive and now to top it off we have been issued with a 2300 AED fine claiming our 2 year old popped the pool!!!! It was shut all over easter and yes i was there whilst they shut it but we had mostly been in the small pool - and at no time did we have a swimming nap pie leakage !!! i saw the 8 men with clip boards and camera taking pictures of the main pool and asked if they were taking pictures of the broken tiles to fix them - they said no "CACA" !! well i looked and could see a black shape no bigger than a cm square to me it looked like a seed and part of a plant they said they had to close the pool to be drained........ and would take at least a week. Well this was the start of the easter holidays so I wrote to DSO asking why the extensive closing etc and that this has never been the case at other communities we have lived in and surly hotel and such would never take such action- (instead a cycle would be run or if it had to be drained it would not take more than 48 hours)!! I had no response. Sure enough the pool was shut for 10 days, but the water was not drained ?? Now today I have received a 2300 Violation letter for the clueing of the pool ???? why when there were at least another 7 kids at the pool and my daughter didn't even poo !!!! how can i be held responsible for the maintenance of a community area??? I'm disgusted by the whole thing and don't know what to do ??? Hi Purplerain, sorry that youre going through this, but theres more to DSO than cedre villas, and theres tons of goodness, and a little poop everywhere in dubai. I suggest you take this up with Client Management at DSO HQ, E wing, it is in the ground floor, bang opposite Emirates NBD bank. Speak to any of the reps there, or the head of Client Management, Emaan. Hope this helps.

ive just been to what i think is the largest photo studio that ive seen in dubai, two warehouses have been converted into creative shooting spaces, and they have a collection of freelance photographers. '8th Street Photography' in al quoz, not sure of the contact, but it's behind times square, they must have some indian photographers. i think it's large enough to even drive your cars onto the set!

Thanks for your replies ladies, it looks like they wont rise quickly as they did, but they do seem to be on the rise, as it has bottomed out. Even a 5% increase per year will add up in a couple of years i guess. Apartments do seem to be in surplus, especially in DSO where i drove around this afternoon, as there are so many new buildings and many very close to completion. Dubizzle has 1 beds in DSO for 35-40K, and studios from 25 - 30K...

im assuming that youre looking at economy configuration. Disability accessible is simply that the arm rest for that aisle seat can be moved up, so that a person from an aircraft wheelchair can just slide onto the seat. It will not affect the recline on the seat in the front or behind.

Hi Becky, firstly Congratulations on starting your own company! I am in the same situation as you, as i am setting up my own business, and currently working at another company, and my salary gets transferred there. When i resign, my company expects a letter from my bank, a no liability letter, so no loans, even no credit cards! Although there is enough balance in the account to cover it all.

I ordered clothes for my daughter several weeks ago but haven't received anything yet at po box. Does anyone know of any way of contacting customs as I'm hoping that's where it is! Was only worth around 60 pounds and would've been a relativy small and light weight. Wasn't sent tracked or anything :( Any help would be appreciated TIA You can go to customs (in the airport freezone) only if you have been notified that you need to go in. Is there a way to contact the supplier to see which company they have used to send the stuff over? and then perhaps try contacting the courier company.

I don't use a wireless network at home now. Had one in previous place but cannot remember what it was or passwords. Etisalat is my land network for phone and internet. If you dont use wireless network at home, is your internet at home via LAN? or dial up? IPAD can only connect to wireless, it probably is connecting to the Etisalat hotspot (like at cafes etc)

getting a 2 bedroom in dubai for that budget may be rather difficult. I have rented out my studio in Discovery, for 30K a year this year, so i reckon you may get a one bed in Discovery or international city for that budget. It's not decent by Dubai standards, and generally has bad publicity, but i recently drove around and even visited an apartment in IC, in England cluster, its not as bad as i hear.

Hello Tomorrow - The world is now not such a large place, we all have friends and family in different parts of the world. We see them often. We are all world citizens. For instance, air travel, or traveling to a different country is the thing that you do once in a lifetime, or such a great deal. According to Emirates, the world actually is a small world. Where everyone kind of knows everyone. In the Advert, the business man, knows the designer, and then the model who walks on the ramp, knows the photographer, the photographer knows the other dude, who knows the other dude who is snorkelling or something. The snorkelling guy rushes behind a bus, to find the last seat, the person sat next to him is the business man from the original scene. It kind of based loosely on the six degrees of separation theory. So everyone kind of knows everyone. The world is small really. The future is here. hello Tomorrow. Ps. according to me! i might be totally wrong! edited by marink on 08/04/2012

You can also speak to your landlord, and ask for a delay in cashing the current rent cheque. I own property here, and last year my tenant asked for a two month delay as she had other expenses, i happily allowed the delay, and did not deposit her cheque. It basically will give you some breathing space atleast.

hi Frazzled, good on you on making such an effort on improving your child's sightreading. Sometimes, it is good practice to just read out the notes separate hands aloud, like CGFEDDC etc, this will atleast help in reognising the notes, and then later be able to play those notes on the piano. Try to keep the metronome or beats on the piano going, and try to motivate DS to keep going, doesnt matter if notes are wrong, atleast keep get the rhythm right. Sometimes, i also take a post it or piece of card, and keep following the music and cover the notes that are finished, that way, DS has no choice to look at the next bar. Keep reading everyday, atleast two to five lines of new music everyday, just google easy pieces and print, like reading in english, fluency only comes with doing more and more often.

I think most singing teachers will do ABRSM, which part of dubai do you live in? Try Centre of Musical arts, Gold and Diamond Park Any of the various brooklyn melodies centres, The Music institue, in JBR The Music Box in DSO Sing and Swing in Ibn Batutta and Festival city, but i think they prepare for London School of Music Exams, but i might be wrong. There are also several private teachers who do voice and send in pupils for ABRSM

Hi Does anyone know what the employment law is for a freelance dance teacher? that is teaching on a casual basis at different venues. Many Thanks This would come under the freelancer visa from Dubai Media City, Not allowed to set up shop any where, but you can certainly travel to places and teach. Very god value for money, i think it will cost around 15-20K per year.

yes, best to rent directly from DSOA. Go to the pinapple building. Get visitor pass from the reception, 'C' block. Go to sales division, "C' block level 8. Ask for Issa/Ali, they are the direct contact for leasing Cedre villas. Their mobile numbers are also on the sliding doors of the entrance of the Spinneys Mall at Cedre.
