I can't remember the exact cost as our insurance covered it, however I believe it was around 3000 dhs, It would be best to call and confirm the price. Had the nails on the second toes removed on Dec 22, and there is still not a lot of re growth, although Michelle keeps reassuring me that the nails are growing. She said it will take about 6 months. A friend had her big toenail removed in Sept and it looks pretty good now. It hurt for the first few days and I was very careful for about three weeks, but really haven't had any problems. (Please do check the price as I could be way off base). edited by Marsbar on 27/03/2015

I had two toenails removed by Michelle at the Dubai podiatry centre on Shk Z. It didn't take long and overall it was a good experience. (As good as can be expected, considering the procedure!) ;)

I have an old MacBook pro that has been working fine until today. It won't respond to commands. I have rebooted it, changed the power source, hit option+command+ esc, nothing is working. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks edited by Marsbar on 27/03/2015

True confessions, I am not a natural blonde either, but it looks like I am! I go to Nabeeha at HairWorks in Al Barsha. She has been doing my hair for two years and I have been very happy with how it looks.

Hi again. I see that quite a few people have looked at this post, so I thought I would update it. We went out on the Dubai-Al Ain highway and took exit 37. We took the first right once we left the highway and drove to the Camel racing stadium. From what we can figure out, there are races on Wed., Thursday and Friday in the mornings and sometimes in the afternoon. We were able to see the camels practicing. As for the camel market, it was on the other side of the highway and it was primarily veterinary clinics, equestrian/camel supplies, camel food and an immigration office. There were camels very close by that were wandering around. Hope that helps in case anyone else is thinking of going. edited by Marsbar on 08/02/2015

Thank you so much! It's mind boggling that the number one "must see" on trip advisor for Abu Dhabi isn't clearly marked on road signs!! Will keep a lookout for the mall and the signs. Many, many thanks!

There is a radio station here that has a weekly call in show. Quite often they have a lawyer who seems to be dealing with real estate issues. I think it is 103.8. Perhaps they can offer some advice? I hope someone else knows the radio station and show that I mean.

You are welcome. One thing to keep in mind, we are always amazed at the difference in the quality of roads once you pass onto the Canadian side. The roads in the US are in great shape, the ones north of the border, not so much! Be sure to go online and check out any festivals that may be happening while you are there. They do have all types of festivals through the summer, in particular, the Montreal Jazz festival is outstanding. Bon Voyage!:)

Boston is lots of fun too! I am not too sure about touristy things, but of course you have to go to Old Quebec City, the only walled city in North America. The Chateau Frontenac is stunning, you have to ride the funicular and explore the alleyways with all the artists. In Montreal, the Old port/city are fun to explore as is the plateau. Definitely have to try Fairmont bagels as well as their chief rivals, St. Viateur. I am sure there will be others who can provide suggestions. We didn't live in Montreal or QC, so I don't know all the cool spots to visit. It's a lovely place to visit, hope you have a great time!

The White Mountain area is so pretty! I think your best option is to get into the US and then rent a car once you are there. 1. Take a bus or train from Quebec city to Plattsburgh NY, and then rent a car there and do the rest of the drive. http://www.rome2rio.com/s/Quebec-City/Plattsburgh 2. There are no direct flights from Quebec City or Montreal to Plattsburgh. You would get routed through Boston or NYC. It's a pretty ride from Quebec to Montreal and then on to Plattsburg. Good luck with your plans! edited by Marsbar on 16/01/2015

New England is a big area. Where specifically do you want to go? Within Canada, there is Via rail: http://www.viarail.ca You might have to use a combination of bus and train. It would seem like it should be easy to get from point A to point B, however, that isn't always the case. Knowing where you want to end up will help. edited by Marsbar on 16/01/2015

Last summer we had a wonderful trip on the Canal du Midi. We weren't thrilled with our boat. It was old, tired and had creepy carpet in the main cabin that was on the floor, wall and ceiling. The rest of the beds weren't great, so I would stay away from that company. Boat aside, the trip was excellent and we would highly recommend doing it. One consideration, we were three adults and we were kept very busy doing all the locks. If you have small kids, you will have to be careful as some boats are more kid-friendly and kid-safe than others. This is the agency we dealt with. It wasn't stellar, but check it out for yourself. http://www.france-passion-plaisance.fr edited by Marsbar on 03/01/2015

Didn't I read on this forum that African Greys can live up to 50 years? That is a HUGE commitment for you, the owner. I don't know much about breeders here, but please think carefully before you begin growing your own flock of birds.

Desert rose, I hope your leg is mending well. I also have osotopenia and was diagnosed in my mid-late forties. I had never even heard of it until I was diagnosed with it as a result of a bone density scan. The good news is that it's not yet osteoporosis, so you have caught it early. I do take more calcium now, but from the reading I have been doing, it's all about weight bearing exercises. I was fooling myself with aquasize classes and walking, but I have had to really start pushing myself so I have started jogging. Please know, I am NOT a runner, but I have to get stronger now in order to ensure a healthy and strong future. I am currently reading the book "Younger next year" and the guys lay it all out pretty clearly. I am not sure what 'high risk" means. Is it a 'higher risk' of another fracture, or 'higher risk' of osteoporosis? Either way, you have to be proactive and do your research. Best wishes. edited by Marsbar on 18/11/2014

Hi, there are lots of things to consider when moving to Vancouver, including where you and/or your husband will be working, and your budget. Vancouver is a beautiful city, however the housing prices in the city itself have skyrocketed over the past few years. Are you looking for a condo, townhouse or regular full size home? There are many lovely suburbs outside of Vancouver that offer less expensive housing and great opportunities for kids. Another consideration is traffic. Perhaps if you let us know where you will be working, we can provide more info. As with all big cities, Vancouver traffic can be trying with long lineups over the bridges connecting North and West Van to the city itself.

I have been applying for a number of jobs recently. I have just received a request for my expected salary. I have not had an interview or any other contact with this company, other than submitting my resume. In the job posting a salary is mentioned with a variance of 5000 dhs from the bottom end of the pay scale to the top end. I have all the educational requirements and the experience required. How do I zero in on what to request? Is this the way things are done here, to discuss salary expectations before an interview? Many, many thanks

It looks like I also have to have my transcripts sent from the universities I attended. Did you have to arrange transcripts too? Many thanks for your reply.

Congratulations for starting a new hobby. Sewing can be lots of fun, once you get your machine back on track. First things first, is it a new machine? Did you purchase it here at a craft store, either Craftland or Classic Quilt store? If so, these two shops are usually pretty good with troubleshooting. If not, then here are a couple of suggestings: first, check the bottom spool tension. We always worry about the top tension, but the bottom spool can also be adjusted. Check YouTube for some tips about it. Secondly, are you using the same type of thread on top and in the bottom? Third, are you using the right thread for the fabric you are working with? Again, the ladies at the craft stores may be able to help ensure you have the right thread for the project. One other thing to recheck, have you threaded the top of the machine correctly? Also, it's easy to put the bottom spool into the holder incorrectly, so make sure it's loaded correctly. As for a timing issue, in that case, I would think your machine might need a tune up. Depending on the age and model of your machine, I would check with the craft stores. Good luck! edited by Marsbar on 30/09/2014
