Thanks for that suggestion but it would have to be very big because it was very high in the sky. I didn't know drones could be so big. The fact it made no noise that we could hear was weird too, plus the fact it headed out over the water made us very puzzled. I am still hoping someone else saw it! Thanks!

Tonight at about 7:40 we were in the garden and there was a strange flying object very high in the sky. It had green and red lights and was able to hover and change direction very easily. It was visible for at least 10 minutes and then headed out towards the water. I live near Safa park so it was flying over this area. There was no noise associated with it, it was very high in the sky, so definitely not a remote controlled plane and as it changed direction, the lights indicated which side we were looking at. Did anyone else see this?

Thank you so much for these recommendations, I will check them out! I have the entertainer fine dining book so that would be a bonus if we go to one of those restaurants. Many thanks.

Hello, we are about to celebrate our 25 wedding anniversary and we are looking for someplace nice to go for dinner with our kids, ages 17-21. We haven't done many 'fine dining' places here, so we don't know where to start. Thinking of the Burj Al Arab, Atlantis or the JW Marriott Marquis. Any feedback on any of those would be appreciated, plus any other suggestions would be welcome. Many thanks.

There is a store in Jumeriah Plaza and they should be able to help you out. It's in the same mall as the second hand bookstore. They have a number of machines for quilting and they will quilt it for you.

Congratulations on your upcoming move to Canada. I see that you have lots of questions so I will try and help answer a few of them. I am not sure if you are moving to Calgary or Toronto but they are about 2500km apart so you want to make sure that your furniture ends up in the same city as you as it can be expensive to transport it across the country. As for Pottery Barn, it can be expensive in Canada. The best thing to do is to check the website and compare prices from here to there, taking in the value of the Canadian dollar. Keep in mind that prices in Canada will fluctuate, depending on how it is doing relative to the American dollar. (With the US government shutdown, that is a whole other thread). Have to dash, maybe another Canadian can add some more advice.

There is a 9 am aquasize class on Saturdays at the Dubai Ladies club that would be a good place to start. You don't need to be a member to attend the class. Not sure of the price for a drop in.

I agree with everyone here but would like to add that sometimes it's really hard for kids to estimate how long it will take them to do their homework. I suggest that you use some type of timer, there is a great one on line that actually blows up when the time is up. http://www.online-stopwatch.com/bomb-countdown/ It's important to teach your kids that there is a light at the end of the tunnel as homework can seem to drag on forever. It's also important to have them do 'reasonable amounts' of homework and I know that around here, the definition of 'reasonable' varies depending on who is using the term. The brain uses an incredible amount of energy so having your child work for 30 minutes and having another snack might help and then doing another 30 minutes followed by another snack. One advantage of using the timer is that you have a clear idea of how much time your child is spending doing homework. This may be helpful information during parent teacher interviews. I would suggest you keep a written record of it in your child's agenda so everyone is in the loop about how much time is being spent on homework. Good luck!

Last year, I deleted my account and 'ceased to exist' with expatwoman when I unsubscribed from their mailing list through my email. If you check any email you have received from them, at the bottom of the email there should be a link to unsubscribe. That will remove you from their mailing list and de-activate your user name. Any posts you have made in the past will still exist but you won't be able to sign in anymore. I hope that helps, Marsbar, formerly cafe au lait!

There are many nice areas to live in Dubai which are close to Safa school. Before you make the decision based on schooling alone, another factor to consider is where you and/or your husband will be working. Traffic is definitely something to consider and although we live 'relatively close' to Safa school, we live just on the other side of Shk Zayed road, getting in and out of our area is crazy in the morning and afternoon because we are surrounded by many schools. Are you looking for a stand alone villa or would you like one that is part of a 'complex' with access to a pool and common area? These are a few things things to consider as you make your move to Dubai. As for Safa school itself, I have heard good things about it, although my kids are past the elementary school age, so I am sure there are others who have more current and relevant information. <em>edited by Marsbar on 27/06/2013</em>

There were actually two problems Dubai bound. I got stuck in both of them. One was a small incident in the fast lane just near MOE. A police car had somebody stopped in that lane. Further along, just near/past Al Manara was a hummer that was burned out at the back end, tires were gone and so were the windows. By the time we passed it was mostly just clean up, but it would have been a very dramatic accident gauging by wrecked hummer.

If he has absolutely everything, then how about this? https://catalogue.worldvision.ca/Gifts/Forms/Category.aspx?name=best_sellers In this day and age when we are so often very blessed, perhaps this might work. When I have given these gifts in the past, I put the picture in a frame and the person can see it and enjoy knowing that they are helping someone else. I guess you will have to paste it into your browser. It's worth a look. <em>edited by Marsbar on 26/05/2013</em>

Hello, you have lots of good questions and I don't have many answers, but here is a website that has loads of information: http://www.eslcafe.com/joblist/ On that website, look up the different forums as there are loads of threads about teaching in the UAE. As well, you can look up International House as well as the British Council and they may be able to provide more answers. Chi2dxb made a good point that tutoring and teaching privately is illegal here, even though many people do it.

HI Blue berry, I can't advise you about using a consultancy company. I am sure that like all businesses there are good ones and bad ones. Have you started with the Canadian government website? Here is the link: http://www.canada.gc.ca/home.html. As well, have you contacted the Canadian Embassy here in Dubai? They must have some information about moving to Canada. Good luck. It's a big move and you would be wise to research it very carefully before you make any further plans.

Hi, I have also been looking for it. Craftland used to carry it. Carrefoure carries it but is out of stalk. Jumbo doesn't have it, neither does Sharaf. Sounds like your best bet is Geant. However, went into a kodak shop and they can print onto fabric with a three day turn around. Sharaf can print onto fabric with a 24 hour turnaround. Good luck. Please post if Geant has it. Thanks!

Just wondering if anyone knows of any 'accredited courses' that you can take to prove that you have some training as a 'qualified proofreader'? I am not sure if this falls under the editorial classification or what qualifications might be needed to show that you are more than capable to edit higher education documents. Many thanks.
