Hi Dashing Dan, I've just recently been to Lekshmi at Pastels on Al Wasl for full leg and bikini - I chose her based on recommendations on EW. As I'm prepping for delivering a baby I was looking for someone who would do a really good job and as painless as possible! I've been very happy with the whole experience and results - she used Lycon wax strips on my legs - a lot better than the usual stuff - and hot lycon wax on my bikini area, which sets and just peels off. Much less horrific than a normal bikini wax. I thought she was really excellent, and I'll definitely go back to her again (especially now that she and I are so familiar!)

I really like the look of this picnic brunch, but haven't tried it yet: http://www.albadiagolfclub.ae/special-offer/picture-perfect-picnic-brunch-75.html

Hi Kermi, I agree with Rosieposie's advice. Hyndland, Dowanhill, Kirklee, Jordanhill definitely the nicest parts of the West End. Jordanhill is very popular for families as it's in a very good school catchment area. Good luck and happy hunting!!

Plenty of nice parts of the West End (near the uni), and plenty of less desirable areas! You need to be careful that you don't end up in a tenement with loads of students. Do you prefer to rent a flat in West End/City Centre or would you rather rent a house in the suburbs?

Many thanks fairycake and beebers - those directions are great, I've got a good idea where I'm going now! Also quite looking forward to meeting the famous Dr Madhu Mathews!

Yep, Blue Oasis is definitely one of the more positive service experiences I've had here in Dubai. Dr Dieter's excellent - a lovely guy, and I find him quite funny and scatty! Seems a bit rubbish with the paperwork side, but is just perfect dealing with and treating our cat - which is all that really matters! Somehow my cat still seems to like him, even after the needles and big pills. I also like the fact he does house calls and offers discounts if you have a rescued pet.

Hi Spudz, I can recommend Dr Nataliya at Cooper Health Clinic - she carried out lletz for me about a year and a half ago. Due to the high number of abnormal cells present she warned me that I may need to undergo two ops to remove them, and that I might not be able to carry children. However she managed successful removal in one procedure and my following check ups showed clear. I'm now three weeks away from delivering my first baby without needing a single stitch, even though she cut away a significant amount of cells. I've always felt very safe in her hands, and completely trust her advice and abilities.

If he doesn't travel well a lot of vets will do home visits - we use Blue Oasis, Dr Dieter, and he gives us discounts for our rescue kitty. Good luck, hope puss is better soon.

Hi Lolly, I changed my surname recently when my passport ran out of pages (had kept maiden name since moving here as didn't have time between wedding and relocation), and have been using residence visa in old surname and passport in new name. I was told by our PRO that this was no problem, but I was still worried that there would be an issue at the airport so always carried a copy of my marriage cert. However it proved to be no problem at all - not sure if this is because I was travelling with DH at the time, and he's the sponsor on my visa? My visa is due for renewal this month anyway so will get the surname changed, but certainly seemed to be no problem to have passport and visa with different surnames.

Sorry to hijack, but can anyone recommend a good waxing salon near the marina? I had an excellent wax when I was in holiday in Majorca - stayed smooth for ages, no ingrowing hairs, hygenic methods, etc - anywhere in dubai offering the same standard?

Sam CT - you could contact the Bin Kitty Collective, they might arrange a volunteer to check out the cats there. At least if the cats are neutered this will stop the stray situation getting worse around that area. Check out their work in the article below. http://gulfnews.com/life-style/pets/operation-snip-tuck-1.988466 Roughly how many strays are there around the Metropolitan hotel?

Hi Tigress It's the charges but also the legal system and ever changing visa rules. I'd much rather be paying off a mortgage than renting, but I'm just very wary of making a long term investment in dubai - there seems to be less protection and rights for property owners here than in other countries. It's probably a great time to invest here, and I may well live to regret having such anxieties!! You're obviously looking into things more than I have, are you quite comfortable with buying?

Managed to get my tickets, was dreading today in case I wasn't successful! Sickened by the folk quoted in the papers, bragging about how they snapped up eight tickets to sell on for double the price....

Hi Tigress, I LOVE living in JBR - since I moved to Dubai I've lived in three of the clusters: Murjan, Bahar and Amwaj. I have actually looked at other areas in Dubai but for me the location of JBR is unbeatable - you have the beach, the marina, loads of restaurants, cafes, hotels, 24hr supermarkets and even nightclubs all on your doorstep. I love getting home from work on a Thursday, knowing that I probably won't use the car again until Sunday morning - everything you could possibly need is within walking distance. Also, compared to other properties around the marina you cannot get better proportioned apartments than in JBR. I viewed so many new developments but there was always a compromise somewhere, either weird shaped rooms, or one really small room, or the balcony off the master bedroom - but the JBR apartments tend to be nice and spacious as well as better laid out. There's sometimes a bit of noise in the evenings from the nightly car display but I really enjoy the buzz every night and I've never been kept awake by any noise (but we're also lucky with our neighbours, long may that continue). It's also the ideal place for when you have visitors - they have access to everything they want on holiday and they are always hugely impressed by the Walk and all the facilities on offer. And where else do you have a choice of pools?? Also, opening my curtains to the beach and sea every morning is just a wonderful way to start every day. As you can tell I'm a huge fan of my neighbourhood!! Any questions at all just shout - hope this has helped.

I would opt for JBR over green community - pretty sure your kids will thank you for it when they get older! However - are you sure you want to buy here? I considered it at one time but found the idea way too scary.

I used Union Movers and found them really excellent - I would definitely use them again. I got quotes from other companies recommended on this forum, but they started off quite high and bargained down after asking what others were offering me. Union offered me a good price from the outset and I found them professional throughout the whole process. A lovely team of guys, very efficient and careful with our things - the whole move went like clockwork. They did a few extras for us as well, like pick up some items from another address (a friend was giving us nursery furniture), fixed things for us without being asked to do so, made our new apartment look really nice. My DH and I just stood there, exchanging approving looks while we watched them work - not often that happens, I think that's why we were so impressed!! Good luck with your move.

I'm having the same problem!! My cat has an irritating penchant for tearing up bank notes so I've been carrying the ripped pieces of a 500 and a 50 around with me for weeks now! I've been to see a couple of banks, here's what I've been told so far - provided the serial number is still intact on the note then it should be exchanged. FIrst bank I visited told me I was to take it to my own bank and the money would be refunded into my account - I've since been told by my bank that I can only exchange damaged notes in the Central Bank at Bur Dubai. Got my company driver to try exchanging the notes at SCB last time he went there but no joy - again referred to the Central Bank. So that's my next stop. If you find any other bank willing to exchange damaged notes for intact ones please let me know! I'll let you know how I get on at the Central Bank....

hello everyone, just joining this thread even though I'm due 6th April - close enough!! Redleaf - I'm starting to get worried about my baby being healthy too - I'm not letting myself get too stressed out about it, but I totally understand your concerns. I had a slightly worrying result after my amniocentesis - the FISH results showed 'possible' abnormality, but thankfully the full results came back totally normal (that was a looong week!) All the scans since then have shown a perfectly formed baby girl - and JOY, a nice big head too :-) But I know I'll not get rid of that niggling worry until she arrives in perfect health. AussiePup/Pingu - I'm having pain/tenderness which I've noticed since Christmas time. It gets much worse when I'm walking anywhere - really feels as if all the weight is bearing down on that area! But I even feel it when I get up to go to the loo during the night (which of course is a LOT) and I really struggle to lift my legs to put pants or trousers on/take them off. I spoke to a friend who delivered last October and she said she had it too so Im thinking it's maybe quite normal...does this sound like the same thing? I'm a first timer and also a massive wimp so getting increasingly terrified of the big day. I'll be running (waddling) for an epidural after the first contraction!

I had a smear here a couple of years ago which showed quite serious abnormal changes (CIN 2) - after one negative gynae experience I found Dr Nataliya (Cooper Health Clinic) using this forum and I can highly recommend her. She had to remove a lot of cells and warned that I might not be able to carry children - however the operation was a total success and I had two all clear check ups before I fell pregnant last summer - all going well so far, and I haven't even needed a stitch. And of course she will be delivering my DD early April! Luckily my insurance covered the colposcopy, the op to remove the cells and following check ups but Cooper don't do direct billing so i have to pay up front for all the clinic consultations and claim back. The op was done at Emirates hospital so that was covered. I think her consulatations are around 600- 800dhs a time, but for short half hour appointments such as check ups I think it might be around 300-500dhs. Hope this helps, and hope you find someone you're comfortable with.

Good luck CP80 - will be thinking of you. So sorry to hear about your last pregnancy, I'm sure with this procedure everything will be fine this time round. Congratulations on your twins. Back in 2010 I had to have many pre-cancerous cells removed from my cervix, and when I fell pregnant last August my gynae warned that I may need the same procedure as you're having. She's monitored things closely but so far I haven't needed any stitch - I'm just at 7 months now so hoping things will be ok for the remaining weeks. Hope to hear how you get on.x

Hi ladies, I'm due on April 6th, first timer with baby girl on the way! Excited but very scared of what's going to happen to my body in 2 months' time!! Learning all the gory details in antenatal just now, ignorance is definitely bliss.... Have enjoyed pregnancy up until now - although I should really stop eating so much chocolate :-) I'm with Dr Nataliya and will deliver in Medcare - anyone else going there?
