You may need to find out what is most important to your family. Living in WB, close to your husbands work and you and the children being in the car for 40-50 min one way to Wakrah, doing the school run. Or living in Wakrah, (or closer by), having a more decent school run, and having your husband do his part of morning driving to his job. As for compounds, there are many, with various standards, facilities, sizes. You need to settle for the location first. A temporary housing could be an option you can have , until you can see what suits your needs best. good luck

Do you regret it? Not a bit! If you had the chance to do it again…? Yes!! For me this was possible it with low expectations, a lot of flexibility, openness to new experiences - every day! Qatar is an unique place and if you have the right attitude, it can be a success. With the wrong attitude it will surely be a disaster. Good luck !

Thanks Eleonor. After the initial shock is over, I know now that 15 thousand- to 18 thousand are normal quotes here in Doha for braces. I did some research in the mean time...However, orthodontists are, according to me, to quick to jump into prescribing braces to kids that do not have all their permanent teeth out yet. So after the 2 year braces there will be another year(s) inside braces or retainers to keep up with the growing jaw…. well a clever way to make (more) money…

Hi , I am interested to know what one would pay for braces for kids. My child is 12, was recommended to start with braces, and the amount that was mentioned for full braces kept me silent for a while…. Well I did not have such experience myself, nor had a previous discussion about this before….Just wanna find out what a reasonable price is for Doha . Thanks,

The timing I tried to give thru was between Villaggio area and Al Wakra, for a start on GEMS somewhere before 8 am. So the drive time would be around 45 min.

GEMS Academy is not in Doha. It is located in Al Wakra, Qatar. Pls do not underestimate the driving to/from school, you being located in West Bay (or close to it). Esp for bus transportation ; how early would you be happy to put your KG2 year old on the bus in the morning? Somebody I know, with excellent driving skills (both decent and "Doha driving" skills) that lives in Villaggio area (opposite end of the city than Onaliza, towards Wakra actually) lives her house 10 to 7 am to reach school. Other than that, the school seems to be very ok, given it's short term notice opening of this year. All that it seems it is lacking is…kids. There is currently only one 5-th grade class that started in Aug with 7 kids and before December had 8 or 9 kids. So much so that for music, for example 3 different grades get together to do the class. Definitely a school worth considering, too bad they do not advertise more. I would not compromise on schools and kids' transportation in this country. Rather on the location I live in.

Not at all…at least in my opinion and experience. Along with begging - to which authorities are very sensible too- this kind of behavior should be made known. Some common practice may be an extra fee to the real estate agency, but that should be documented and without preference towards certain tenants.

‘Leggings are NOT pants’: Qatar puts its foot down with dress code as it launches advertising campaign reminding female tourists what not to wear. 'If you are in Qatar, you are one of us': Qatar aims to educate tourists on modesty Men wearing shorts and singlets in public will be frowned upon Women should also avoid wearing garments which are too short or too tight, such as mini-skirts or sleeveless dresses Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2641453/Qatars-clothing-modesty-campaign-clarifies-stance-leggings-new-advertising-campaign.html#ixzz349XDFKcH Follow us: @MailOnline on Twitter | DailyMail on Facebook

The email you posted previously does not work. To make a long story shorter, I know of a lady with a lot of experience in autism. I/she was willing to share her contact number with you. Let me know when that email address works.

I know of Sakura in Radisson Blu (ex ramada), Chopsticks in Wyndham and Asia Live in Marriott. The latter I have tried 3 years ago. The other two not for teppanyaki. Does anyone have a recent good experience with any of the above, or would you recommend anything else ? TIA

I am here a while now...but getting sick and tired to see how people's lives depend - in critical circumstances- on some other people's chaotic decisions. I actually was quite angry when i heard that DH had to listen/follow instructions of security people in the office building, that eventually told them after being outside 20 min, they must go home and leave West Bay asap. All his stuff, car remained at the office, he walked, until I picked him up.

Please, can someone enlighten me: My whole life i knew that irrespective what you do to shelter yourself during or after an earthquake, there is ONE thing you do NOT do: you do not use the stairs! Stairs are the most frail part in a building. How is this whole evacuating 'thing' in the high rise happening? (of course , here in Doha!) . Is there a knowledgeable and trustworthy (!!??) person deciding and supervising it? Or is it left on everybody's own decision. I heard reports of people being 'evacuated 'from office buildings, that entered car parks to get to their cars...and security guards did not oppose?!

Dont mean to be critic, just share what worked for me; The one thing you ''may'' do wrong is your expectations. Adjust them to Qatar! Difficult, I know- as qatar to me is unlike any other country i know, but I could only survive it going with ...what [i'>[i'>goe[/i'>s[/i'> in qatar. I also worked all my life in the finance sector...similar to you, lots of experience, in more countries. I even had interviews at one point...I prioritized and then made a decision. I am here because of my DH's contract. Since we are here I am ' just ' a mom, ' just ' a housewife, ' just ' a friend... During a day I work a lot, totally new things form what I was doing before. I am not payed money for what I do. But I GREW a lot, innerly. And I am thankful for that!

In a similar quest about finding a maid, a friend interviewed a filipina girl who's contract with her current employer just expired. The employer is ready to release her in return of a QR 10 000 fee- the take-over sponsorship fee! Have no idea of this fees nowadays, but bear in mind also this case. Of course he was not able to prove with papers that he paid this amount at the beginning of the contract!

Bread wise- european style, I vote for PQ (pain quotidien Villaggio) and Paul. Carreffour has also some fresh baked sliced white bread no milk based. New item.. available 3 days a week. Plus the pave bread...also white, quite soft though.

No, I would not trust. I would not trust under your circumstances, and I would not trust under my circumstances - my live in maid, we have for 3 years, and to whom my kids are so used to. A 2,5 y/o cannot be sooo demanding to be impressed by going out to a mall or a park. You mentioned quite a few possibilities for spending the time in the compound. It's rather her who wants to go out, I believe. Tough decision, 'couse you need to keep her also happy. Good luck.

Biscotti in Grand Hyatt, still has clearly printed on each page of the Menu that all the prices include service charge. When asked - the waiter, his supervisor, the supervisor of the supervisor about the legality of this in the menu and on the bill, they all thought I have a very bad day and went to there to make it miserable for them too. Obviously they did not know anything about this yesterday!!
