Monnie Any joy with the issue you have with your teenager ? The thread has been moved to the schools board Thank you Sue62 I was aware as had looked for it yesterday. Unfortunately it was moved as it had the word school in the heading and as a result it was moved to the schools section and since there are less contributions to Monnies thread on such a very very important subject.

Cushion, I should imagine there is bullying in various degrees at the majority of schools here, as it is an unfortunate fact of life, it seems. What is important is the way the school concerned addresses it, whatever their reputation. There should be an anti-bullying policy in place and the school should be prepared to implement it, otherwise look at what happens, even in the "best" schools. "Policy" is one thing " implementation " is another. I do wonder if world wide the most senior management people in schools do actually know how severe these problems are in their schools. If they do how could they not address these issues with firm discipline and consequences for those bullying.( not interested in the view they cannot do anything unless seen by a member of staff) something can always be done . If a person lower down in the chain of command does not have the situation under control are they likely to report the issue to their manager, maybe not,if they think it will be see as a weakness on their part for not sorting it.

Ladies Stop pushing for name of school, you are not helping the situation and will fuel gossip and make it worse if the child remains if problem is addressed and sorted by the school. Not all people in senior roles are capable in handling these situations and parent needs to go straight to the head of the school if the parent can get access to the person as head of year did not sort the problem. Not everyone is aware of bullying( children or adults) even if it is in front of them so just because your child may not be aware does not mean it is not happening at their school. Sadly , Too many people ignore bullying especially if it is happening to someone else, and it is nothing to do with them.

Thank you ladies for your support. I realise just how bad this verbal bullying is - I can see how her self-esteem is plummeting. And what is worrying me a lot is her anger - just today she was begging me to get her a punch bag because she needs to let her anger out. I really think that one way or another this has to stop - it has gone on way too long!! Thankfully you are aware of the situation and you can deal with it . There are too many very sad cases where parents are not aware /ignore until it is all too late. Good luck and would be interesting to learn how it goes for you.

The little guys I use in Ajman vaccum and polish the inside and clean the entire outside for 40 dhs. This is not the same as a regular car clean . They are shampooing the interior etc etc etc etc not a 20 minute job and this is in Dubai not Ajman.

nip - Not DBS. I haven't taken it to the head of school yet but that will be the next step if things don't get sorted. McB- It's not physical bullying - it's verbal - really bad verbal stuff!! And I did mean the form tutor. Monnie, Don't waste your time, go a lot higher . Verbal abuse is worse as it is not visible and would still go along with encouraging a discipline sport to encourage confidence in your child. Unfortunately there are many parents who think think this behaviour is part of growing up and one needs to learn to handle it where as I view these bullies should have been taught better by parents that it is not acceptable . Unfortunately there are many bullies in the world and they keep getting away with it as people do not have the B--lls or morals to stand up to it and stop it from happening to someone else. Remember these bullies turn into adults and keep doing the same in the Adult world ! I hope you are successful and do not need to move your child but if not don't let the child continue to suffer even if you need to home school for a time and report it to KHDA if necessary.

Hi, We want to go to Sheikh Zayed Mosque in AD tomorrow. I've searched the internet and cannot find current info on tour timings etc. So does anyone know what time the tours are? If you don't go on the tour, can you just walk around and look yourself? Also, is it pram friendly? Someone mentioned there are a lot of stairs... I also cannot find any info on its location or directions to get there... Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks! There is only alot of stairs if you need the toilets. Go early be there by 10am and closes for prayer time. you can go around on your own but tours can be worth while.

If the school is not going to deal with the issue, depending on how high in the chain of command to speak to . In year 7, I would have thought they have more than one class teacher, I assume therefore you mean Form Tutor, or better still Year 7 head of year or go higher in the chain, depending on who you dealt with in the past. You must also put the issue in writing before your meeting so it is been taken seriously. If no joy once the Principal learns of the issue, then yes move your child but these issues exist unfortunately in every school and some address it better than others. Consider also self defence /disciplined sport for your child I wish I had done so for all mine and kept it up as it is good exercise and also may help one in life if need arises. <em>edited by McB on 14/02/2012</em>

Best advice is , do not have them in the ground. I had some in pots but they were plastic pots , not so good as eventually will break so try ceramic instead but above the ground in pots not below the ground. I have all 34 trees taken out in January, my son and his friend cut them down and then labourers dug out the ball roots. it was not a difficult as we were dreading it which is why i wanted my son to cut the trees rather than the labourers, faster more efficient and realiable. The garden is a desert again before the next step is taken to redo it but no invasive tree roots I hope will be planted and probably a lot less grass

I am looking fr information about holy communion. How is the preparation for kids? how is the ceremony? in what dates ? thanks! Same as for communion 2 year course, suggest you pop into the office on Friday , I will let them know on JACC program there may be a few new enquiries for communion and confirmation. Have a look at the website http://www.stfrancisjebelali.ae/ministry.htm as depending on your language you may want to attend classes on a different day .

Jebel Ali will be easier for you, there are 3 different groups who do these classes in English along with other groups in other languages, depending on what language you need. It is a two year program , starting in September. Suggest you go along on a Friday morning to speak with one of the Co ordinators of a group, JACC or ACC, they will be in the office for the classes after 9am family mass around 10am. Confirmation is in early May this year. This link will be useful for you http://www.stfrancisjebelali.ae/ministry.htm

Thanks MCB.. that is so reassuring.. i can add that he is responding to his name.. laughing.. giving eye contact.. understands me when i tell him "come to mama" "bring your ball" or "bring your bike" but being quite is the only thing that is worrying me.. i hope what you said is my case. This is all very very positive, try not to compare too much . You child may turn out to be more quiet than some other people and that is not a bad thing either. He is only 1 remember but not easy as your a FTM . I think it is real shame this section is not allowed to be on the main forum as experienced/older Moms won't see queries, I just happened to go on and see yours and when went to reply it was gone but then checked this section. If ever the need you can email me if you wish.

If you child is meeting all the other mile stones, my advice from experience is do not concern yourself. One of my children only had very few words by age 3.5 years and when he started school in Sept by half term he was chatting more . All the Mom's noticed the difference at school as they knew him since birth. He had all the vocab in his head but just didn't need/want to use it. we had speech therapy for him from aged 3 as advised by the doctor, now , many years later and more experience of life and family II realise he may never have needed it but difficult to ascertain at 3 years old. He now has a fantastic vocab and speaks very well and he is 19. Try not to worry or to listen to other mothers who can sometimes put the fear in one. Do ask advise from professionals and at this stage i think they may say similar, if he is saying DAaaa and responding to sounds that is positive. <em>edited by McB on 06/02/2012</em>

In another Arab country 15 years ago where I lived, I had door chains installed on all windows and doors up high so children could not open them and they were never allowed out onto the balcony as risk was too high. Door chains may be an alternative to locks for some people to use and easy to install and won't lose the key.

Anyway, to make up for it thinking of taking the kids to mamzar beach park tomorrow (all the chilli bins are still packed!). Never been...would you recommend it and is it warm enough to swim in the sea do you think? Please help? :) Check the weather, just look outside it has been sandy and windy over past few days, and beach tomorrow ? Thought I read weather is due to get colder. If your children are small and it is windy it may not be a wise idea. best help is check weather forecast <em>edited by McB on 03/02/2012</em>

What on earth is wrong with these parents? And the police gave them a warning. How can they go to work, lock the girl in the apartment and then this happens. I feel so sad about this. Very very very sad indeed and amazing the number of people who leave their children alone even westerners who we think in today's world should know better pop to the shop if children asleep. The police gave them a warning and it appears they had someone to look after the child therefore assuming they did heed the warning but may not have sufficient knowledge to know to keep all windows and doors shut/locked to avoid accidents. Not everyone thinks or understands risks unfortunately. Education education education, in what ever formate is required will help prevent these children being left alone .In addition support , be it child care facilities at affordable prices for those that really need them in the area one lives. Just remember one of these higher profile cases of children left alone when parents were socialising ( not out working) "The Madeline McCann case". it is also very very very sad. I learned last summer 2011 there are many many children here left without supervision as parents cannot afford supervision for long holidays and both parents need to work to survive. There is a massive need for cheap affordable summer camps and other holiday camps to keep these children occupied and safer with good adult supervision.

Hi Best if you go up to St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Jebel Ali to the Office on a Friday morning and also go along to the marriage guidance class and ask the people who actually hold the class. There is a very nice couple who are involved and would be very helpful. If you have not received your confirmation this can be addressed but you need to act and not leave it. The church has its system and may be off putting but don't give up to easily, hopefully this is the biggest challenge you might have within your married life and you will be married to each other all your life as it was intended within the Catholic Church. Confirmation is due to be in early May 2012 at St Francis and probably similar time for St Mary's. Good Luck and if I can be of any further help email me if you wish. This is not the case. Not sure where you got your information from. There are many many mixed faith people dating and marriages at St Francis, they are welcomed with open arms. Depends on your and your husband's-to-be religion. The Catholic church would only do it when both parties are Catholic. We did ours at the Anglican Church also in Jebel Ali, Chistchurch. The priest there is super cool and makes the session extra fun with YouTube videos etc. They are happy to marry/do prep classes for couples of mixed faiths, provided that none of the two are Muslim. Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

Take the advice please this poster below wrote and go and see a doctor and get a Well Woman check up and explain all of how you feel. Write down in advance all your feelings and impact it is having on you so you read it to your doctor. Be sure and have your Thyroid checked by a blood sample. It could be a number of things," Glandular fever" is another thing, my daughter suffered undetected the year she was doing her GCSE's and was not showing some of the usual symptoms. Best to see a General Doctor to start and if advised to take medication give it a go to help yourself in the short term, and when not so tired and more able, try and get out walking and mixing a little with people and slowly you will improve. You sound like you may be suffering from either ; A.) Under active thyroid B.) Lack of Vitamin D C.) Depression Go to your doctor!!

Your poor girl, take it easy and be kind to yourself. My children are alot older but really felt for you as I had a tough time with pregnancy and premature children, infections etc. If you want to try and breast feed still, just keep at it no matter how small the amount is, give the baby formula without guilt. Rest/ decent sleep and eating well are key to getting better and stronger and improving your milk supply. If one is on antibiotics, in my time, one still had to express to keep it going so use a hand/electric pump so if you want to keep trying ( unfortunately the milk had to be thrown out during that period). Some people give up very easily others do not and sounds as if your having it tougher than others so be good to yourself and if your feel you cannot keep trying just try and accept it and maybe next time you will be able to. As a parent there will be many things one cannot do/achieve as one wants and it is also important to learn sometimes it is best left for now but at least one gave it a good try. I wish you well. <em>edited by McB on 21/01/2012</em>

One should not worry about stares especially if you are trying to look after your children properly. Some people stare with interest to see are you going to handle the situation or just leave the child to get away with what ever they decide to do. I fail to understand why people do not appear to use children's reins. It is safer for the child and the parent and anyone else around. Less accidents. Adults have more control, shorten the reins if you need to until the child learns your guidelines. When child is alot older one can purchase a hand rein which is very useful even when child is 5 or 6years old especially in airports and crowded tourist places and shopping malls. A good investment to use and much less stress on the adult in charge. Same as using a seat belt in the car, very worth while on many levels. Like anything worthwhile one needs adult persistence I bought one when we went on holiday to NY. Sadly, DD just refused to be in it. She quickly figured out that if she runs fast enough, we could not hold her back and she would be in the literally hanging in the air. It was fun for her but not for us as we got awful stares from everyone else. I still have it... maybe I should sell it? It looks like a backpack with a monkey on it.

You poor girl, hope you get sorted soon. A few tips, It is not necessary living here to use bottled water to wash fruit and veg. Very important to ensure everyone washes hands properly with soap after using bathrooms and touching parts of body including face before preparing food and if you touch your face or sneeze while preparing food, wash your hands immediately and then continue handling food. Ensure if you have home help , they are trained correctly in personal hygiene and have hot water and soap /shampoo available and used by them Use hot water and washing up liquid to wash dishes. Good luck ! thanks all... only been drinking botled water... not ate out anywhere this week. At home we wash fruit adn veg in bottled water too....would go to hospital today as been sick again ( 2nd time this morning) and had enough now Just discovered my medical card out of date so have t get on to employers t get renewed one!

I had to change 4 tyres yesterday, costing over 3000 dhs, shop around for tyres. Two had to be changed but did all 4 so car will be better balanced going forward and easier for changing around tyres after 10,000 km. Not willing to risk safety so my advice would be after 3 years and you have been advised ,best to do so. I had mine changed on um sequeim st on the road from Al Khail towards sheik zayed road on the right hand side a small tyre garage just before big Dunlop tyres. They carry a wide range at good prices, i had 3 prices to compare before going with this garage. Good morning ladies, My DH has been told that although his tyres are in perfect condition he has to replace them as they are now 3 years old - I have searched online to see if I can find out if this is true, but can't see anything regarding this. Does anyone know if this is true as the car is due for re-registaration next week and I would like to make sure beofre we take it to the RTA. TIA
