Does anyone have any information about this program? In particular, does it cover family members?

No problems BMAP- glad you got a car. We are getting a good price for ours and without the hassle having to sell privately so I am happy. It is a gold Range Rover Sport so perhaps not what you were after anyway. We are also selling lots of household stuff so do let me know if you still need anything.

Hi BMAP, I am about to sell my 4x4 to the Al Futtaim Automall on SZR. They will only buy cars with full service records from licenced dealerships. If you are interested in the details of my car (I am selling this week), post your email address and I will send you the details directly. Cheers, MG PS. I think you know Scotch and Diet? She has my email address if you would prefer to contact me direct.

There is a shop at the outlet Mall that sells Save the Queen- I have bought a few bits there over the years. I can't remember the name but if you go in the front entrance and turn left at Massimo Dutti, it is on your right about half way down. The shop sells a lot of my favourite English/Italian designers.

I have used a company called 'Wafi Limousines' for this trip in the past. Driver picks you up and brings you home again. I don't know the cost or the number as it was arranged by my company but maybe you could search on google for them?

With respect, I disagree with SandD, although it does depend on your lifestyle. I would say it is possible to live on less money in Australia as in the cities you don't need to have a car, medical expenses are less and going out for meals and alcohol does not have to revolve around 5 star hotels. I also find groceries and clothing cheaper in Australia and I think it is much easier to spend money in Dubai. Petrol, service based industries like cleaning companies, beauty salons etc are much more expensive in Australia however. Financially I am better off here than Australia because my employer covers most of my living expenses and I am not a % of my income in tax, but the actual cost of living is about the same if not a bit less in Australia. edited by MG on 07/07/2011

Ok, here's my contribution. Well known hotel chain, with whom we have a loyalty card. Because we are known, they also know that I have a nut allergy, in fact, in the past, when I've made a restaurant booking, they've even checked that I still am allergic to nuts! Anyway . . . Its my birthday. DH books a table a long time in advance, mentions the birthday and the nut allergy. So the restaurant say that they will bake me a cake, and will take account of the nut allergy. So we arrive, they check "secretly" with my husband that it is still my birthday (!) then bring out the cake. They place it on my placemat, say happy birthday, then snatch it away, saying they can't give it to me as it has nuts in it!!! It is given to my husband, and I'm presented with a fruit salad! We laughed so much we didn't have the energy to complain! That is the best one I have ever heard. Tears rolling down my face from laughter!

Okay thanks. Our allowance is around AED300 plus club membership (ie. if the facilities are not included the company will pay additional so that we can use them). We need to be on the main island and we need 2 car spaces. Any suggestions for other buildings we should look at welcome.

Thanks for your opinions. We have parking so that won't be an issue but I will make sure that the actual apartment itself is properly soundproofed when we check it out. Happy to be somewhere busy as long as it is not noisy inside the apartment!

I just heard Jones the Grocer described as 'Mod- Oz Carluccios.' This is the best description I have heard yet.

The sign has gone up this week, the building signage can be hard to see from SZR as it is right under the underpass. Easiest way to get there is take the Al Thanya exit from SZ and do a u-turn. If anyone is looking for coffee shops in Al Manara while waiting for Jones to open, I highly recommend Crumbs, Cafe de Provence next door. Great pastries, coffee and the staff are really good with kids.

You have to go to the Night Zoo- awesome. Also Lo Pa Sat for hawker food is good. Also agree with Dempsey Hill recommendation- Disgruntled Chef restaurant is great.

Rhodes Mezzanine. I have been to all three and all very good, but Rhodes puts in a bit extra to make it more special.

I have an HSBC account here and a Westpac account in Australia. I ended up opening another HSBC account in Australia which I use as the conduit between my HSBC UAE and Westpac AU accounts. It is pretty straightforward to move money online between the HSBC accounts and domestically between HSBC AU and Westpac. HTH
