Sorry to hear about your sister's ordeal. Has she tried contacting the British embassy? They would be able to recommend a lawyer, perhaps.

I've had good experience with Lighthouse Arabia, but they're not the cheapest. If your friend is able to get a referral through a GP, insurance might cover the cost, I believe.

Try hitting up Mr Kemal (+971 54 446 2508). He's a freelancer with an excellent portfolio and doesn't charge the price that a firm/full-timer would.

I think Gorobattie's answer is incorrect. A friend of mine was in the same situation (5 months pregnant when she married in Dubai) and gave birth in Dubai, too. No one asked questions. As long as you provide a marriage certificate, no one is going to bother with the details. Good luck with your pregnancy and I hope you have a smooth delivery. Ok, my answer is wrong, please do a mini search on this forum not anything else, and read the stories of Mums with same situation and got prosecuted here..... I rest my case I apologise, I didn't mean to come off rude. You may be right, but there are an equal number of cases where such a thing was not a problem. It may depend on the discretion of one's doctor, or how much a person wishes to disclose. Per-mature deliveries do happen, so a blanket rule cannot apply to everyone, unless there's a witch hunt? I don't think it works that way. In any case, I'm sure the original poster would appreciate reassurances and positive stories. Pregnancy is stressful as it is!

The best Turkish hamam is at the Zaabeel Saray, but that's overpriced. I personally go for a Moroccan hamam at the Dubai Ladies' Club. The place is very clean and their ladies are Moroccan, too. They charge you initially for a new loofah, which you get to keep, and then you can bring it back when return for another hamam.

I often go to either one: Dr Sima Delghandi at Medwin Clinic on Jumeirah Road, or Dr Mukaddes Oksuz at Healthbay Polyclinic. Both German board.

You could also try supplementing with seaweed. A daily tablet of seaweed taken orally (or content poured into orange juice). It worked very well for to supplement a deficiency that was causing hair loss, and also somehow helped me shed weight, which I wasn't necessarily looking to do.

I think Ecco shoes are good quality, versatile and last long. I have two pairs of winter boots that I bought in 2006 and they're still in great shape and only need to have the heel pads replaced occasionally.

I used Euromovers two years ago to ship the content of a 2-bedroom apartment to the UK. They did a superb job from packaging to home-delivering the items to our address in the UK. Can't fault the service or the price. I got three quotations and theirs was the most affordable. Only one item arrived slightly damaged, but then it was an IKEA side table. The rest of my furniture came in-tact and clean, and they reassembled it all for me, as well.

I would highly recommend Dr Rolef at Healthbay Polyclinic in Al Wasl. A few trials and errors led us to her, and finally my friend was no longer overdosing on painkillers to numb the misdiagnosed pain.

You'll find it in Lulu Hypermarket. I got mine from there about two weeks ago.

I've been using Churchil cleaning for several years now. They seem to have been the most affordable on the market back then, but I haven't checked since. Their prices haven't changed, though.

Thanks, pinks and luluwings. I'd also much rather wait if it weren't for the fact that it affects my ability to drive, especially at night. I'm going to ring up Moorfields right away - cheers!

Green Planet at City Walk is supposedly run by a wildlife ecologist. I'm not sure about that, but worth checking.

There is an Iranian lady who used to live in Mirdif that offered the same services. I would take a snapshot of what I wanted and she would recommend materials and custom-tailor the outfit. I don't think she lives in Mirdif anymore and the last we've communicated was two years ago. I do have a number that you could try, though. Her name is Shohra 0502891148.

I've had a really positive experience with Dr Andreas Appelt at Healthbay Polyclinic (I think he's moved to Dubai Mall Clinic since). He's very orthodox about his non-invasive methods and insists on doing the needful only. I believe he's German. I hope you feel better!

Hi Coffee5, There's a FB group for UAE HomeSchoolers. I've been on it for a year in the hope that I could homeschool my son mostly to avoid paying the exorbitant amounts that schools here charge. Being a working mom, I realised it wasn't going to be easy and I couldn't commit, so we're sending our son to school this fall. I would urge you to check out the group and the material they post online, though. It might be of help? If I remember correctly, they're based in Abu Dhabi. I've heard of a couple of people in Dubai who homeschool their kids, but I don't know of any organised group that you can reach out to, I'm afraid. I hope that was helpful.

Thank you so much for the detailed response! Is there any formal or informal support group for adoptive families in Dubai? I have been asking around and it seems that the process was lengthy for some couples but rather fast for others, and I wonder if those who were able to expedite the process had done so because they were better prepared, or because the chosen country of adoption was different. Also, we are an inter-cultural family. We don't subscribe to any religion, although on official documents I'm Muslim and my husband is Christian. We registered our son as 'other' on his school application forms. Will that complicate the process for us? Thanks again!

Hello ladies! I'm wondering if anyone on here has gone through the process of adopting a child from the UAE or overseas? What is the process like? Is it lengthy and arduous as I heard it was? Would we be able to sponsor an adopted child? I would appreciate your insight/advice on this. Cheers!
