Thanks pinky13... I will be looking at British schools as we reside in the UK. Also if u can suggest what areas are best to move into... We previously lived in victory heights... Tia Hi there, Sunmarke is a new school which is part of Regent International School - (my daughter attends RIS and we are pleased with her progress) Sunmarke uses the British Learning System and they start at Foundation to Year 12 so you wont have to run the gantlet between schools for drop off and pick up. And they also offer school transport from most areas in Dubai. (Which my daughter catches to school every day). Here is the link, it is worth taking a look. We are living in Dubai Marina which we love but I must admit that I have been here since October and haven't met too many people yet. It just depends on who is in your area at the time. Good luck with the move. https://www.sunmarkedubai.com/

Hi guys, I am looking for playmates in the Dubai Marina area for my ten year old daughter. We arrived in October and she knows no-one! She is attending RIS and has made a couple of friends in her class but they are dispersed around the city. She is desperate to make friends as am I! (There is only so much a Mother can do with her 10 year old daughter before we start to fall out with each other). I have just registered her for the netball on a Thursday after school. And I know it take time to build up friendships but there is nothing wrong with a helping hand from time to time. Any help and advice will not go amiss. Thanks.

Hi all, I am a new Dubai resident, living at Dubai Marina with no known people or friends here as of now. Would be nice to meet people and make some friends. I am planning to go to one of the coffee mornings at costa, marina walk. But any more ideas? Hi Prits, I am new to Dubai Marina too. I arrived at the beginning of the month from Sydney, Australia but I am originally from England - if you ever want to meet up PM me. Hi! I am having a hard time finding friends too but the thing is that we can not send private messages here. :( Oh I am sorry I hadn't realized - I must read up on the rules and get to know the site a little better. Thank you for letting me know.

Hi Rusamerican86 Really hope you will make it, always feels a little daunting when you don't know anyone but let's be brave! :-) I'm sure it will be a fun coffee morning. Where in the Marina are you based? I'm very close to that Costa coffee shop where those meetings are held, Marinascape Trident towers. But my husband told me just now we need to go to Abu Dhabi on Monday! I guess I will have to try to make to the one on Nov 14. I'm in the same tower and arrived in October - I'm getting cabin fever and need to get out and about! bye:

Evening all, My husband and I (and 2 cats) will be moving out to Dubai in December. I am spending quite a lot of time researching where to live and thought I had pretty much had it down to The Palm, I even went to see an apartment on the Golden Mile when we were there last week, which I really liked, but the more I read the more I am aware that construction noise and traffic is a big problem. Other areas we would consider are Marina - although traffic is supposedly a nightmare? My husband's office will be the south end of SZR so Greens, Springs, Views, Lakes are options, maybe JVT as well? It's a big, daunting move for us (me, mainly) so I am desperate for the area to feel "right". I will hopefully get work as a teacher by next August but obviously don't know where. At first we were all set on 2 bed apartment, but would love some opinions on the villa option further afield. Our budget is AED 180k, but could do a little more for the right area. Many thanks for your advice, Melissa Hi Cookiedubai, I arrived in Dubai at the beginning of October from Sydney. We had a look at many areas but kept coming back to the Dubai Marina. It has everything you could need. If you are into fitness, there is an 8km loop around the marina or shorter if you take one of the bridges over. The highway is minutes away and the metro is a very short walk (depending on which side you live). We have moved into one of the Trident buildings on Al Tarras Street directly opposite the metro. We have a view to the marina and it is stunning. There are two bedroom apartments for your budget. It all depends what is important to you - for us it was being able to go for a walk/job in the evening after work with a nice view. And being around water was a must too. It's so clean and safe here too. There are security guards everywhere and all the staff in the shops are eager to lend a hand - they will even carry your heavy groceries to your apartment door if you ask. The metro runs in two directions and there is a train every 5 minutes or so and even a carriage for women and children only. It's about AED5 to ride. I hop on and go to one of three malls which are within 20 minutes of us. I have never lived in an apartment before and of course it has it's ups and downs but we have a pool and gym here and the concierge are amazing. I was struggling with some purchases the other day and they came running out with the trolley and took everything off me and straight up to my apartment. Yes you do hear the occasional bang from above but when I look out of my window and see that amazing view - it's all worth it. And also where we stay, my husband can access the highway within minutes. It works for us. Take a look online at https://www.propertyfinder.ae/en/rent/dubai/properties-for-rent-dubai-marina-marinascape-oceanic.html?mkwid=sEgpr1XnV_dc&pcrid=79206713645&pkw=_cat%3Apropertyfinder.ae&pmt=b&gclid=CP2a6anm9c8CFUk6GwodBLsPqg Good luck.

Hi all I'm hoping someone can help with a number of questions I have regarding schools in Abu Dhabi. My husband is moving in December 2016 from UK to AD, with myself and my daughter (5yo) following in March 2017. We're looking to apply for schools for Term 3 of 2016/2017 academic year. We have applications for a number of schools, but they are asking for Visa numbers, emirates ID numbers, etc - are these something we can get prior to relocating? We may only have a week or so between coming to AD and starting school, so I'm not sure if this is long enough to get all the necessary paperwork. Thanks Hi Elaine597, I arrived in Dubai just over three weeks ago having not really done any homework on schools as I was aware of all the documents required to apply for a place a most schools. We only had the option of one school as the others were far too expensive or full but to be honest loved the one that was available. They were very understanding about our situation and once my daughter had sat a simple entrance test, we were offered a place. They knew we didn't have all the relevant paperwork as it takes so long to get it all. This is what we required to get her into school - * My husband needed his visa * We need a lease/deed on a property you were renting along with a letter from the power company and water company. (Both these have some abbreviation which has slipped my mind) * Along with a letter from his company informing them our Visa's are being processed. Once you have your Visa's you then can apply for an Emirates ID. Then you can apply for a drivers licence And finally an alcohol licence. It's a long procedure. The school were happy to accept my husband's visa along with a letter informing the school that they were processing our visa's. We also had to provide a letter from her previous school stating when she started and finished at the school and what year she was in. Once they had these and we had paid the school fees, she was allowed to start school which for us was less than two weeks from when we had arrived. We are still not in possession of our visa's and are not sure when we will receive them so I am not allowed to drive! Which is a pain as it also took another week before my daughter could ride the bus to school which meant I was catching a taxi for morning drop offs and afternoon pick ups! If you would like to know any more information as I am going through the process right now, please send me a PM. Good luck.

I belong to a social runnng group called Hash house harriers look up our website on www.deserthash.org It is a running club with a drinking problem or it may be a drinking club with a running problem, but drinking isn't mandatory, it's up to you. We are a ver social group and always welcome new members as Dubai is a very transient place, people come and go all the time. There are lots of parties, camping trips, brunches, bowling evenings, curry club and other activities you can join in with. We have members who live in the Maria who would probably give you a lift. Call one of the numbers on the website. Lastly but not least, we do have serious runners who take part in marathons, half marathons, wadi bi etc, so you can definitely have a good run if you want to. We meet every Sunday evening an hour before sunset and run in a different place every week. Good luck Much appreciated ShellAR. I will take a look - sadly I am far from fit so will need to get up to speed before I shame myself in plodding along with the group. I am more than happy to join a club with a drinking problem

Hi I'm hoping some you who have been through this before can advise please. We are relocating from London to Dubai and DH's company is paying for shipping. As such, are we being foolish in trying to avoid shipping because we want to travel as light as possible. We are travelling with 2 children. My DH wants to just buy whatever we need from Dubai but I am concerned that if things are a lot more expensive in Dubai we will regret not buying things from here and shipping them. I understand that generally rental homes in Dubai tend to be unfurnished and we will even need to bring our own white goods. Are their any items that are ridiculously expensive in Dubai that you would recommend we purchase from here or any items that we may need but tend to be hard to source? Or would you say that purchasing from Dubai will be more convenient. Especially since we have no idea what the dimensions etc of our home will be. I will be massively grateful for any advice on this subject. Many thanks in advance! We arrived a week ago from Australia (originally from the UK) and left all our belonging in storage. lets just say I've spent a week travelling around umpteen shopping centers and furniture stores to find very little which suits our taste and at our budget. We've just placed a AEU12000 order with ikea. Stock was also very limited with their stock. I currently think our best option would have been to bring our things with us. One positive is you can request delivery and assemble as part of the service from Ikea. We've secured a two bed apartment in one of the Trident building in Dubai Marina, it has an amazing view. But it also came with all the white goods, washer dryer, fridge freezer, microwave. Our lease also includes the aircon, thankfuly as it's still pretty warm out here. bye:
