You can get a repeat Rx from Dr Amer Saadeddin, Dubai Community Health Center. You will still need to get it from the Center every month and submit the prescription to the pharmacy within the same month than the date it was issued. I paid only "handling/admin fee", not a full Dr's consultation. Edit to add that it is possible to see a GP for a prescription and the fact that it is accepted by the Pharmacy as well as MoH means it is OK. I followed that route as well and also paid an AED20 admin fee. edited by MissUnderstood on 03/05/2011

I wasn't nasty Sue. I asked a simple question stemmed from observation. Janesul gave a good response to the question :)

I-pods, Mobile phones, PSP's, Nintendos, Laptops, Cameras and I-pads. They hardly watch television, prefer to swim and play outside or meet up with friends and read more than spending time using their electronics.

IMHO, Kate Middleton is much more beautiful than any of the Hollywood starlets that we see nowadays. Very true. She is a natural beauty and her grace adds to it. Notice how thin and flat her upper lip is. But it really doesn't matter with her beauty she doesn't need the botox lips, raised eyebrows and plum cheeks. Perfect as is! Botox on her forehead? What do you think. All the pictures taken on that specific day appear strange to me. Her forehead appears frozen. She has also had teeth withening procedures done in the run up to the wedding. http://justjared.buzznet.com/photo-gallery/2534609/prince-william-kate-middleton-open-community-academy-01/

I used to vaccuum them up, then open up the vaccuum bag outside. :\: Thank you for the tip though. We have a few and they are noisy and leave droppings behind that does not sit well with me.

I decided today to go shopping for a nude heel tomorrow. I almost waited too long. No wardrobe should be without a fab nude heel this season.

I grew up believing silverfish or fishmoths are harmful and a search renders this correct: Silverfish consume matter that contains polysaccharides, such as starches and dextrin in adhesives.[4'> These include glue, book bindings, paper, photos, sugar, coffee, hair, carpet, clothing and dandruff. Silverfish can also cause damage to tapestries. Other substances that may be eaten include cotton, linen, silk, synthetic fibres and dead insects or even its own exuvia (moulted exoskeleton). During famine, a silverfish may even attack leatherware and synthetic fabrics. Silverfish can live for a year or more without eating.

No to tan but a big yes to a nude heel. It is [i'>the [/i'>look of the moment and IMHO a great look. http://girlstalkinsmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/gwyneth-paltrow-435.jpg http://www3.pictures.zimbio.com/bg/Elizabeth+Hurley+Clothes+Nyc3ERXvaYMl.jpg?101021L2_HURLEY_B_GR_01 http://media.onsugar.com/files/ons1/348/3482201/35_2009/013a4584e053904e_Renee_Zellweger_at_Good_Morning_America.jpg http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/02/18/article-0-0856EBE3000005DC-624_468x701.jpg http://images2.chictopia.com/photos/Michellesstylefile/7957910840/navy-frilly-dress-sportsgirl-dress-nude-tan-heels-country-road-heels_400.jpg

Bring lots and lots of national paraphernalia along for the kids to utilise for national and international day activities, schoolfayres and foodfayres at school. Country flags, stickers, posters, dressing up clothes, fabric, anything that points to your nationality and traditions will come in very handy. You might have to contribute food items too so if you use any special baking equipment to make the national dish, bring that along.

I love how proud British people are of their country, pomp and circumstance. Don't be fooled though into thinking that the rest of the world would swop their passports given half a chance. From my perpective I understand that Britain makes it easy for immigrants to enter and settle into a new live, rather than immigrants necessarily having the desire to settle in the UK because of the fantastic lifestyle and opportunities it offers. English being the Lingua Franca plays a role too.

Hi terf. I feel your pain/anger. I have 2 brothers. I am the middle child. Older brother.... 18 months apart, grew up very close. Only contact is initiated by me. He thinks I live a golden life and have no problems. Bugs me but I guess he finds it hard to relate and when we are together we get along really well. Younger brother is 6 years younger. Mum went back to work when he was 4 so I helped out a lot with him. Can go months without contact and I only know what is going on because he posts on FB. The first few years I went home I fought with them but now I just try and take them for what they are, show them I love them and hope they will both 'grow up' one day!!! I am rowing the same boat except that one brother died when we were young adults and sadly not even that event could bring the rest of us closer, even though I also had a big hand in bringing my brother up. It upsets me terribly, especially when I obeserve my three kids. I cannot imagine the three of them growing apart so much later that they might not have a good word towards one another. When I see how close my kids are now, it is a painful reminder that we were just as close once. I don't agree with posters who argue for the different personalities scenario. Families are suppose to be beautiful institutions, a way of life. Edit to add that institution meant in a nice organic way. I don't know how to express myself. edited by MissUnderstood on 27/04/2011

I think some of you are confused with regard to the meaning of ambidexterity and the resultant intelligence :) It means that one can write with either left or right hand with equal ease, or kick with either leg with equal ease. Doing a few tasks with one side and other tasks with the other side does not imply ambidexterity. I am completely right handed so am in awe of anyone who are either of the above.

Sorry Poppygirl, I was under the impression that you were just thinking about it. Anyway, to me it is a no-brainer....DESC definately wins over Rep, and many other schools here. I would put it up just under DC in levels of schools choices. In fact, I would only list JESS, DESC, DC & ASD as choices for secondary here. does JC not make the list? if not why in'your opinion' It is profitmaking compared to the list that is non profit ;) I do think JC is an excellent choice in Dubai too.

We give our pre-teens 200 dhs a month and it is not linked to chores. We don't believe in rewarding chores with (pocket) money. Similarly we don't reward or bribe behaviour with food, toys or money. Pocketmoney is pocketmoney. Chores are chores. Food is food. They learn the value of each separately. Brats have no place in our home.

Dubai is devoid of intellectualism ! It's raison d'etre is to be an ego-massaging bourgeois paradise full of shopping and luxury. It's a machine designed almost exclusively for that single purpose by the state. It's a simulacra - an idealized, manufactured copy of something that never really existed - very Disneyesque. And workers don't even come into it really...they're considered capital and not human by the system, to be used and discarded as necessary. The only difference in how workers are treated is the level of transparency and care taken vis a vis the lifecycle of exploitability and expendability, which is of course dependent on class and race. IMO it's partially a product of the Conservative desire to maintain a stable, predictable, simplistic, patriarchial culture (the benign/benevolent monarchy in this case) as much as a total focus on economic interests...the desire for everything to run as smoothly as possible in much a way as to maximize profit without offending anyone. I'm always for dissection but you've got to know what you're dealing with and what you're getting into. For one the vast majority of people don't posess the intellectual skills to engage in high level sociopolitical/philosophical/political discourse - at best it would most likely be seen as threatening to the fragile bourgeois ego, which is intellectually unchallenged here. Pressed further, truly open intellectual discourse and self expression could well be seen as threatening to the dominant power structure here (government/culture) which is extremely sensitive to criticism. And in that case, action would likely be taken....if not by the authorities themselves then by the self censoring actors who depend on the system for survival. But anyone with intellectual portent coming here would most likely know all that up front. It's an interesting place to see interesting examples of various memes being played out in front of you however beyond that I wouldn't expect much in terms of actual culture, self expression, freedom of ideas, political discourse etc. This can be absolute purgatory for an educated individual, edited by our souls on 24/03/2011 This is to the last sentence my exact opinion of Dubai. I am also bored silly, it is a mental boredom which the bourgeousie don't understand ;)

Diamonds :D On a more serious note: Decent sunglasses, shoes for the whole family, fresh pasta, fun, holidays. We struggle financially and we would rather forego these than to settle for poor quality. edited by MissUnderstood on 06/03/2011

I dont have kids in either schools but based purely on reputation and what I have heard I would take Wellington Intl. Many thanks Appletiser for your opinion....you know.....It's so difficult. I heard at Wellington Int. they don't give homeworks at primary school (and I think this is so wrong!!) + too many students in the class + they don't learn as much as at DBS............ The more homework, the more likely the school is a) not delivering during school hours b) old fashioned in it's approach, bordering rote learning. Home should consist of daily spelling and a book to read and once weekly literacy and maths.

I am a SEN teacher and taught at 2 profitmaking schools and 1 non-profit school in Dubai. Our children attended one of the profitmakings schools and we moved them to be with me in the non-profit school. The differences we experienced was huge, from academics to sport, profile and qualifications of teachers to resources, stability of staff to consistency of teaching. The non-profit school offered an education that the other two would never be able to match since the very foundations and ethos of the schools are so different. People will mostly be happy if their children are happy but unless moms have something to compare with, they don't know what they miss out on. Sorry Claire that is a fact. You simply don't know that R is offering sub-standard schooling. What they offer does not qualify for education in my books.

Children from overseas join Jess, JAPS and DESS all the time. Don't believe all that you read on here. These schools are selective however and will give preference to academically strong children. They also do not give preference to British families as is always rumoured on this forum. You have to be pro-active and visit the schools personally.
