hi Alisha. If your DH is going to work in the airport freezone then mirdif and festival city will be a good location to reside in. Also you will have lots of schools to choose from in these areas. The drive will also be relatively easy as in gress and egress have lots of options.lots of EWers live in these areas.

from experience, you first locate yourself in the dubai map. Which area do you live in? then we map out the nurseries within a certain kilometer range and get feedback on them. search "dubai nurseries" in bayut for example and then come back on this thread to ask for feedback. last but most importantly, you would have to get out of the thread to actually visit the schools in order to get on those waiting lists.best school is relative really - location wise, curriculum wise, fees wise, etc. edited by mitzi2010 on 27/01/2011

she was hoping she'd be able to solve it first before having you in panic. thats why she didnt shout to wake you up.if it was a fire i'm sure she'd have called you to awake. its one thing to make a mistake and then add up to it by running back to boss to ask how to solve it.agree that it was s---- of her to have forgotten to close the tap. and totally understand that you are mad.

when did Mirdif change to Mirdiff? pedant!that is right...hehe It was always written as Mirdif in English, until the English arrived in town and they started writing Mirdiff......grrrrrr I hate it when things change. Al Wasl rd used to be Iranian Hosp rd SZR was Abu Dhabi rd I am sooooooooooooooooooo old oh sorry.didnt realize it was an issue here. i landed dubai less than a year ago and i noticed that no single spelling of street names exist. maybe im just trying to exonerate myself from getting your attention on the mirdiff spelling.

smaller in scale meaning not a big big school. BUt good. presently, my kids are in a small scale school that is good. in order for you to get the background of what I meant. they are in star al twar. I prefer the same kind of small school, if there is in mirdif. if none. then Ill be happy to continue to take them to al twar star.

hi Eli1979 how's your cam now? is it working ok? if yes, can you direct me to maxcom where you bought it? whats the total cost? incl.installation? How does it work? How long do they take to install it? Im upgrading by adding 2more cameras to my present etisalat as we are moving to a bigger flat in the coming weeks. Also, the new flat doesnt have cctv in the hallway so I'll put my own near the main door. TIA.

Hi there sorry just in cos I have been working today. We like it here. There seem to be lots of security guards around (one even rescued me when I locked myself on the balcony!) Have not seen cctv. We are in block 12A and there are children playing outside every night on bikes etc. We dont have kids so not asked about play areas but were told grassy areas were to come (no idea when) Each building has a garbage shute and there are skips for bigger rubbish there too. Saw a pest control man spraying round the buildings the other night but we have had no ants etc. Maintenace seems good. We had a small leak in a bathroom when we moved in and it was fixed as soon as we rung. Lots of cleaners about all the time and hallway seems to be cleaned every day. We are on fourth floor and not much noise at all (except drills from people building furniture and puting up curtain rails as they move in.) The kids outside seem to be of all nationalities and seem to play well but thats just from looking at them fromt he balcony. Hope this helps Is your flat in ghorrob well insulated from dust? I have before heard of apartments and villas in dxb that due to poor worksmanship ends up dusty inside forever, the windows seemingly not done properly-must be with gaps etc.The EWer was then complaining of perpetuality cleaning her place.

the unit i liked in B is not facing the street. yes noticed there is no courtyard but didnt think a courtyard will make a difference for us because it was so small and my kids are 3 and 5 yr.olds would be risky to have them play there. was thinking that if we stay there, well just have to drive to the park on wkends for play. on the day, they will have been able to play in school and at home anyway. hmm... the finish inside the flats are ok. but workers buses? and international city? I hope not. Though my husband says it will take quite a few more years for these to happen as he thinks it will take a long time for ghoroob to fill up. By that time we will have gone somewhere else. what do you think?

I live in Ghoroob, there are no common areas yet - no idea when they will do the landscaping or even what is planned. There are plenty of 2 beds available, they have 2 types of building A and B. The children here seem to play in the carparks and in the street (with a few disinterested maids trailing after them) In Shorooq it looked like they had started on the playgrounds and landscaping in the apartment section last October so that may be finished by now. YOu can walk to Uptown from Shorooq and to City Centre from Ghoroob. There's a park with a nice playground nr the pink mosque in 26b street and Mushriff park opp Arabian Centre. hi pentel. whats the diff bet A and B? which is better and why? I saw and somehow already liked 12B. Visited shorooq and the playgrounds are not yet done. My husband said he saw a playground in building 2 there. edited by mitzi2010 on 17/01/2011 Thanks to everyone for all the comments. edited by mitzi2010 on 17/01/2011

hi aberdeenshiregirl.we desperately need your comments on ghoroob. i ope you're not a leasing agent. heehe. we visited yesterday and found a suitable apartment. I liked the finish inside. my concern was that it looked like there woul dbe no place for my kids to play. where do you see the kids play down? are there really no facilities coming up? how is the cleaning of your building?pest control and garbage collection? are there cctv on the hallways? I want to know how they are going about this things. dont want to have the same problems as what we have now in my building - when lots of tenants filled the building, there was no more discipline. and a once hotel like building has now deteriorated.would appreciate info.thanks

for the eitsalat cam it works only with etisalat fone and you have to call the sim on the cam in order to view. it has audio and video. i dont know about dragonmart cams. i presently hae etisalat.one cam only. i wish to add some more to check on the other areas were kids and nanny go. i m planning to try dragonmart for a cheaper option. im waiting until we transfer house by next month before putting in new cams. etisalat drains lots of credit and theres no recording capability. im ****** coz my DH is the one who is able to access only and he only does it very infrequently. i howver cant do anything as etisalat 3G wouldnt work in my office. idont know why 3G signal seems to be blocked from here. i would want to have the cam accessible via net.let me know what you are able to find.thanks edited by mitzi2010 on 11/01/2011

my advice is best to brin gover your maid on a visit visa. this way she can help you will all the things needed for your relocation. trust me, its mighty hard to be saddled with kids whilst arranging new house, new schools, furnishings etc. Besides, its really hard to just hire maids here. They are very unpredictable!

jwal, a debit card allows you to withdraw YOUR money from a savings account and to swipe the card to pay for puchases as a CASH transaction. Meanwhile, a credit card allows you to make a cash withdrawal in the form of a cash advance from the bank, with whom you will be answerable for automatic transaction fees for the cash withdrawal alone.Money is not yours but is a loan from the bank. You can use it to swipe and pay for purchases, and have a certain interest free period within which you can pay up 100% of your purchases. If you do not pay in full, the remaining amount due will be liable for a certain interest. The good side with CC is that you will earn points, miles, discounts, etc. and you can benefit of the interest free period. This works well as long as you pay in full each time on or before amounts are due.

Help can anyone advise, we have taken on a phillipino maid here on a tourist visa, my husabnd went to immigration to change her visa and was told the rules have changed and that our maid has to leave the country and return on the work visa, we have also been told that a run to Hatta/Oman wouldn't be sufficient and that she would need to fly out. My husband is looking into flights to Kish??? for her and himself - he thought he should go to in case there are problems as he is her sponsor Anyone experienced this or have any advice??? Thanks Hi dear. this question has been answered a thousand times here. I myself have given answers because I hired two fil ladies and had them exit as well. Both times I booked them via flydubai with very cheap rates. Oman or bahrain or qatar. whichever is cheaper. you book them to fly out and to fly in on the very next flight. They just go down and fall in line back . There's no waiting time. Your husband doesnt need to go with her. No worries really. My maids told me that most of those in the flight were doing the same thing - visa re -entry. I even remarked that this exercise is a complete waste of time as it takes us longer time to drive her to and from the airport compared with her flying time itself. Btw, when they re-enter Dubai, they need to present that working visa you had with you as sponsor, and then it will be stamped, she will be eye scanned etc. After this formalities, you would have 2 months on this to have her go for medical and go back to immigration to process the visa stamping, labour contact et al. and the process ends there and you will be 9,000 or so DHS less richer.

nice perspective desertrose. i myself wouldnt trust my daughter in the care of someone with grubby looking maid with dirty nails. appearance of your maid dictates discipline and cleanliness enforced in the madam's home. i make my maid wear clean uniform each day. i also require them to bath each day and cut nails short. one time, my maid was in the play area with my kids. my maid told me the other maids there asked her if she was a Nurse as she was very neatly dressed in her scrub suit and sneakers. hehhe. however, i let them wear whatever they like when they go out on their day off.my own maid prefers to wear very tight fitting blouses whenever she goes on day off I always tell her she looks like a paratha or shawarma!

no its not all automatic here. you actually have a choice between either automatic or manual.Only registered driving schools such as Emirates Driving Institute and Belhasa etc. are authorized to take in student drivers. You cannot just ask somebody random who speaks in english etc. to teach you. Check out the websites of these two driving schools. Personally, we have great experience with Emirates Driving. You'll be surprised to find that they actually have good facilities and standards.

the same money exchange place can deposit to the BDO account. when you deposit, they usually ask you if its for western union or for deposit to account. when you say the latter, you will just have to furnish the name of the maid's accoutn and no and thats it. you can also wire it from your account.Standard chartered had free remittances to the phils and pakistan last month.I dont know if its still on.

hi. there have been many threads on this topic before, one of which is already provided you down by Clairehdp. I have experienced both ways - that of hiring and processing thru an agency, and the other thru a tourist visa converted to a work visa after. I could say that though money wise, it both redounds to roughly the same costs, the legwork and stress is much less on the 2nd way - that of hiring thru a tourist visa.
