It's been a while since I last had to do this but I found my current helper either here on Expatwoman or on Dubizzle but I can't for the life of me remember which nor where within these two web sites. All I remember is that there were enormous numbers of listings posted by job seekers and sometimes families that were leaving Dubai and looking for new families for their helper. Does anyone know what I mean and where I can find it again???? Many thanks magda

Thanks! We've done Villa Beach and I actually wasn't all that keen. But I was thinking of Nineteen. Might give that a try. Thanks again

In your opinion... what's the best one with outdoor seating. And by 'best', I mean, for a nice dinner with hubby after several very stressful weeks. Thanks m

Mother Inferior... MANY thanks. I have already emailed him. That said, things have JUST gotten that much more serious so if anyone out there knows of a good lawyer who can help me, a franchisee, with a franchisor who has screwed me over in a major way, it would be VERY much appreciated.

Thank you ladies. pollydxb1, at al qasr looking straight at Pier Chic?? Is there just the one outlet that offers tea in Al Qasr? The one I was talking about is on the ground floor as you come in and go straight. Is that the one with views of Pier Chic? Or is there another? Will check out Westin too.

Thanks izzybell. I was JUST thinking earlier today that I must go to Ace this weekend and on the heals of that thought came the thought that Ace would probably charge a fortune. Will try Danube first. Thanks again.

Does anyone know, if you're having afternoon tea at Al Qasr, can you park at Souq Madinat and get an abra over to the hotel? We were at al Qasr for lunch todauy and tried getting an abra back to the madinat and we were told they're only for hotel guests! But I KNOW we took an abra from the souq when we had reservations at segreto. Having asked that, does anyone have a better suggestion for a really nice afternoon tea? My mum lived here from 68 until 1999 and friends from way back then are coming for a visit shortly (mum being here too!) and my mum would like to take them out for afternoon tea. I thought this would be nice what with the abra and the grounds being so pretty and the hotel being so equally lovely.

Very kind Marsbar! Thank you. But I think - I repeat, "THINK" - we might be ok. Got my shop & ship 'pay now' email today so fingers crossed they get here on time. Says they should be here by the 18th! Again, thank you.

I imagine I will be needing a lawyer but I've been told they are hard to come by here (franchise ones, that is) so I could certainly start with an advisor. Can you post details or would you rather email? My email is mercedes dot king71 at gmail dot com Thank you!!

Again... *we* were discussing *either* an ortho or a neuro. Have you never used the advice or experience of others to help sway your decision?? Whatever...

And I don't understand why people can't just offer advice out of the goodness of their hearts without making judgement calls and being catty... What I have done is considered other people's opinions/experiences to come to my own decision which was going to be neuro or ortho from the get go. You do realise of course that all doctors are essentially GPs don't you?? You become a doctor and THEN you specialise. Yes, there are specialists who have been doing what they do for a long time and haven't had much cause to have experience with anything else and equally, there are specialists - as well as GPs - who can 'miss' something. But being that I have an excellent neurologist who I trust implicitly and being that he was one of my two options to start with ... I decided to go that way. I know I'm an idiot for even bothering to explain myself on here but I've had a **** effing day and this has been a smidge of a vent. jo91... thank you for simply giving your opinion!

Thank you ladies. Lolacat, I think I may have worded my original post badly... we're not actually arguing; just debating. And not to worry, I'm not so naive as to take any 'diagnosis' from here to heart. Just wanted to know if anyone had any reasonable insight as to which would be the more likely specialist in this case. And being that it will be hard enough to convince my husband to take time out to go and see ANYONE, I don't want to go through the hassle of a GP first. And since I have an excellent neurologist myself, I'll go with your thoughts Jo91 and give him a try first. If it's not neurological in nature, he'll tell us. Thanks again.

I have spent ALL day fighting with a sluggish mac trying to get my annual photo calendar sorted and I've HAD it. Shipping costs with shutterfly etc are ridiculous and Apple drives me nuts because I have three different Apple IDs... one based here, one based in Oz and one based in Canada. Oz and Canada don't do me any good because we're back to shipping costs, and here, Apple doesn't do any print products! And I can't use the US and my Shop&Ship account because despite the fact that that's still expensive, I don't have a US Apple ID. Surely there is somewhere HERE that does decent calendars at a reasonable price, no?? Anyone know i I can print my iPhoto calendar as a pdf and then take it in somewhere here to print?? Many thanks

I have done the unthinkable! I have shattered my daughter's LeapPad screen. She LOVES that thing! I googled and found that a number of people have been given a one-time free replacement so I wrote in to customer service and they wrote back asking me a bunch of questions (serial number etc). So, possibly they will offer me a replacement. But in case they don't, anyone know if there's anywhere here where I can get it repaired? Many thanks

Gosh thanks everyone. Already tried FragranceX but high prices for this one. Never crossed my mind to check souq!! However, as it turns out, it's cheaper to shop & ship with the additional $10 than to buy from souq! Thanks all very much.

My feet are in a disastrous state because I've been trying to get a business off the ground and it's been FAR more time-consuming and stressful than I possibly could have imagined. And it's my birthday tomorrow. So, I want to treat my feet to a seriously spectacular pedi... rather than the regular Tips&Toes pedis that were fitting the bill perfectly well when I was getting them every 2 or 3 weeks. Any suggestions? (I've heard that there exist 'medical' pedis, which, although they may not be done in a particularly nice setting, are supposed to be far better than regular nail-salon pedis.) Many thanks.

I know it's a long shot but I'm desperate. I bought a couple of fast food shops and have been looking for delivery drivers and I don't know how there can possibly be a shortage but apparently there is because despite ads EVERYwhere, I'm getting NOTHING. So, if you order delivery and the driver seems a nice man, feel free to give him my email!!! I'm at the stage where when I'm stopped in traffic and I see a delivery bike, I want to run out of my car to hand him my card!!!! REALLY appreciate any help. Thanks!!

I'm going to be doing an open interview session to find staff for a new shop. I did some this morning and held them at a terrible terrible coffee shop that I had chosen only because I thought it would be well located for most people but it was not only terrible but also not so well located! I figure if I can a Tim Hortons or a Starbucks or whatever that's right by a metro stop, that's probably best for the candidates but can't for the life of me remember what's where!! Anyone?? I'm thinking maybe down the Trade Centre end of Sheikh Zayed. Anyone know what decent cafe is right by a metro stop in that area? Many thanks.

Thank you ladies. I've gotten in touch with all of them. That first one that was posted on an earlier thread was interesting. The first number given is a home number (Got an answering machine saying "I'm not home at the moment...") and the other two were answered by someone who doesn't speak any English. And I mean ANY! However, went with the email and we'll see what happens! Thanks again ladies. Out of curiosity, to those who use such services, do you have them on a retainer or pay on a job-by-job basis? Someone is trying to convince me to go with paying a retainer but I'm just not sure we'll need them all that much once everything is set up. Am I being naive?? We'll have between 15 and 20 staff if that makes any difference. Thanks again.

There is, apparently, here in our fair city, a shop that sells the pillows, mattresses etc of various hotels. So you go in and say you want the Marriott pillow or the Hilton mattress or what have you. Now, does anyone know the name and/or location of this shop?? The person who told me about it heard of it from a friend but can't for the life of her remember the name of the shop nor even who she heard it from! And I am DESPERATE for a Marriott down pillow. I know you can buy them fro their on line shop but the cost of shipping the thing is 3 times the cost of the pillow and the pillow itself is about Dhs160, which is fine but with shipping it ends up being Dhs 640!! And apparently you can't buy direct from the hotel here in town.

We ended up going with Supreme Way and OMG, they were AMAZING! They were fast as could be but that didn't show in the care they took or quality of packing. In fact, although they quoted me for just the furniture and breakables as we were planning to do the rest (clothing, food stuff, linen etc etc) ourselves, they did most of that too! Really cant possibly have wanted anything more... except maybe to have someone stick around to make me a cup of tea after! LOL

Went with Boardwalk. Took me almost an hour to get there because GPS had a nervous breakdown just as we were nearing the right area and had DD in the back whinging and whining and mum stressing and saying we should turn around and go home. FINALLY made it. Only to be told they don't do breakfast during the week so don't open till 12pm. This was a bit before 11! They suggested we try the restaurant at the gold club just past the Hyatt and was close to tears but went and it was LOVELY. Haven't been before but was such a nice setting. Even nicer than Boardwalk if memory serves. Thanks for all the suggestions ladies.

We're in federal Dubai. But my understanding was that it's still fairly complex in that only someone holding a PRO card (of some kind) can even enter the immigration buildings. However, it's more PRO companies that I'm looking for, I think. I had a look at FixIt but don't really understand if they would be able to sort out labour cards etc on our behalf for our employees as opposed to directly for us.
