I think you're right to be concerned. I would want/expect 3 adults for 9 children of that age. Although I would be fine with it if it was just for a couple of days as i wouldn't expect the nursery to have a supply teacher to hand if normal teacher is off sick. I wouldn't put the biting incident down to lack of staff though. Kids will be kids and unfortunately some of the little terrors like to bite. My DD has been the victim of this a couple of times. It's not nice but it happens. In my case the parent of the biter was told and eventually it stopped so i was happy. Hope your DS is ok and the biter gets fed soon.

We have IMS Lettings take care of ours and in the 3 years we've been here we've had no problems. They've been brilliant in fact! Whenever there's a problem they get in touch straight away & ask permission for there contractors to fix. All repairs are done at very good rate too! They do a thorough inspection every 6 months and send us a report on it. 1 tenant wasn't looking after 1 of them so they told them to tidy it up and they did eventually after IMS kept chasing them up. As soon as a tenant gives notice they put the property on the website straight away, We've never had to worry about a thing. The 10% they charge is worth every penny. Maybe i'm lucky

Just checked the phone number of the shop as they called a minute ago & it's the same shop as Claire uses Le Cadre so really really pleased that you rate them as i pick them up tonight & was a bit worried about quality because they were so cheap.

I've used the frame shop next to AB Copy centre (plant street) which is on the corner opposite western union. I've had 4 photos done 30 x 30 @ 30dirhams each. I pick them up tomorrow so i'll let you know then how they come out. I did notice a gigantic family photo done on canvas in there which was probably 180 x 90 and the receipt showed 600Dhs. The picture was obviously taken in a studio so you'd expect the quality to be excellent

My babysitter who has lived and worked here for 12 years has what she calls nieces over here who she looks out for. One is the daughter of her sister (her real neice) and the other is the daughter of a friend from back home. When she babysits, which is often on a friday night, the 2 nieces come round too (lovely, polite girls) They usually get a takeaway to share, watch a movie and generally catch up as they don't see each other in the week because they are working. When we get back the youngest niece is usually asleep in babysitters arms on the sofa. These girls just want the company of their auntie as they feel safe with her and for a few hours they don't have to answer to anyone. I know their are some mischievous maids out there, but don't assume she is one of them. Just ask her to be honest with you and make it perfectly clear to her (in a polite but firm way) that if she messes you around there will be serious consequences. You have a resposibility to look after your maid but you can't keep tabs on her 24/7. Good Luck

I would just say no, the same way I've said no to my daughters when it came to sleeping over at someone house. Its the way I was brought up and its still culturally relevent here - if you have your own 'home' then why do you need to sleep somewhere else unless you're on a holiday or away for a break. But that's just it: She is NOT your daughter, she is your employee and an independent adult. Your house is not her home, it's her living arrangement that comes with the job. I would think that on their day and night of, any maid would maybe enjoy not being arounfpd the house and family. They need a break every week, just a we happily close the door to our offices on a Thursday night. To the OP: make sure she knows what she can and cannot do, explain the rules, regulations and consequences in this country and ask to meet the aunty, if only to ease your mind. Oopsadaisy, you're right, my maids are not my daughters - but they are someones daughters and because of that they'll be looked after by me the way my daughters are. I've been entrusted with their care by their family and I wont be letting anyone down. The same way I would expect my daughters to be looked after by others if they ever ended up living in someone elses house. But that aside there's also the what if associated with this and I'll never put me or mine in a position where I had to say to a please officer - she was allowed to stay out at the weekend. My lot close their own doors when they go to bed everynight just the way we do, they dont share rooms with each other or bathrooms, they have a very nice rooms in the garden with their own patio and wee bit of garden, they have total privacy, they have every friday off, the eat what the want and there are no off limits in the kitchen, they have whatever TV package they want, the house is there's including the pool and garden, friends are free to come and go in the afternoon or evening, - but no sleepovers. It works for all of us, my longest serving employee has been with us for almost 24 years now but he does live round the corner from us with his wife and children who we brought from Bangladesh to join him. And until recently the least amount of time a person had spent with us was 9 years. Oh and I'm never on here complaining about maids, I dont complain to other people either because the reality is we're all very happy and none of us really have anything to complain about. Oh and one of the maids is the same age as my eldest daughter and the second one is a few years older then my youngest girl. A previous maid was in her 40's and she didnt get to sleep out either, and she was OK with that because as she said - it wasnt allowed at home. And I have to disagree with you about my home not being their home - it is. Or at least thats what they tell me and its why one is coming from leave 3 weeks early next week - she wants to come home. edited by DesertRose1958 on 10/04/2012 edited by DesertRose1958 on 10/04/2012 That's really refreshing to read on a maids thread!

Mine always goes on about how he just wants a few beers with mates, a swarma on the way home followed by a lie in the next morning and total control of the TV until he feels well enough to venture outdoors. So next year DD & I will be going off to stay in a hotel overnight so he can have it.

I can't guarantee but there is nothing i can't buy from this shop. I think it's the one that advertisies Jotun paints

We took the MIL to Esca cafe at the Qamardeen Hotel. The chef was very helpful and cooked her whatever she wanted. Just call anywhere ahead and most places will cater for you. We had dinner at ruth chris steakhouse too and their seperate gluten free menu was quite lengthy which pleased MIL as she hates having to ask what she can & can't have.

Before calling the police maybe if you could ask your friend to hang on for just a few more minutes. Hopefully the mother or father will turn up and realise how stupid they have been and never ever do it again. I know it's completely reckless of the parent but getting police envolved probably won't help (the children especially). So nice of your friend to do this, hope it all turns out ok.

We did everything from here when buying a house to rent. We knew what kind of house we wanted and in what area. Grabbed a bargain. Did all the paperwork with the bank, solicitors and letting agent through e-mail and for the odd documents through mail. Letting agent started advertising 2 weeks prior to finalising contracts and had tenants in straight away. The initial set up costs with the agent were actually a lot less than i thought! We use IMS Lettings and they are great. They e-mail if the house needs any work doing urgently and the charges are a lot less than if i did it myself. They inspect the house every 6 months and report back to you on the condition. You have to have the gas certifcate renewed every year which costs us 60quid a time and a small fee when there is a tenant change. The only thing i would say is that the older house we rent has a few more problems than the newer house, which is not surprising but still, additional costs that you could do without. The next will almost definitely be a newer property. Anyway, We've had no problems at all using IMS in the 3.5 years we've been here. Just to add, My last tenant was a bit cheeky and kept asking for all kinds of things to be replaced. The hallway carpet which the agent had already reported was worn because of their dog! The back gate which the agent had reported had been scratched by the dog. I simply said no to these & they replaced themselves. You are NOT responsible for everything in the house. When you sign with the letting agent go through the agreement with them (even if it take 4 hours) and make sure you understnd your responsibilities so you have peace of mind. edited by Mollydxb on 16/02/2012

Thanks, Molly. Just what I need, some specific places like that. Could You buy fresh bread at the organic cafe? She stayed at the qamardeen so didn't need to buy bread but i'm pretty sure she said you could. She was really impressed with the selection anyway & she's very very fussy :) If you do go to Esca then call before you go & tell them your coming. Chef will make sure he has everything in for you.

My mother in law has just visited and she is Coeliac. She found the Organic Food Cafe to have great products but even better was Esca cafe in the Qamardeen Hotel. The chef is fantastic there and gave her a huge choice of food she could have. They also have lovely gluten free bread. We did the friday brunch there and it was great for her. The chef basically kept cooking food fresh just for her. She loved it! (they are in the entertainer too) We then took them for dinner at Ruth Chris where they have a seperate gluten free menu. This made MIL feel so much better as she hates the fuss of having to ask.

Just ask him, you may be surprised. We're looking to move so i asked the question with our landlord & he said that it was usually 2 months rent (as it clearly states in our agreement) but as we've been in the property for a long time they'd make it just 1 months rent penalty.

Not for posh ladies though! :) I really wanted to like Aussies, but it`s always empty! I know, It used to quite good a few years ago. Great atmosphere on a Thursday night but it's not been like that for about 12 months.
