Thanks a bunch BeckyDXB, you made me feel so much better, was feeling sick that I've lost so many years of data. Once I've created my new account, how do I contact Microsoft to recover my documents etc? Do you then use your new account or use your old account with a changed password?

Thanks BeckyDXB. Is there a special link to opening a second Hotmail account? Or just a general one? Were you able to recover all your files etc from your original account?

If red tape allows you to bring an ayi, best to do so. Definitely buy carpets and furniture etc from Beijing.

Me too. I've always used Panasonic cordless in other countries and they've all lasted for years. The one bought here only lasted 6 months and needs to be replaced? Would be interested in recommendations as well.

Hi. My DD had tried several and really likes: QV Moisturising Day Cream with SPF 30 (made in Australia by Ego), available in Boots and most pharmacies. I can't remember the price but it wasn't outrageous - Boots recently had a "buy 2 get 1 free promotion".

I took DS to Gulf Eye Centre today and he saw Dr. Janice. I can't praise her highly enough. She's warm and great with kids as well as being very thorough - she picked up something that went undetected previously. Thanks Sanddy_Dogg for feedback. Dr Janice is not listed on the Gulf Eye Centre website (same as Dr Grim?). Is she a paediatric opthalmologist? Both DS and DH needs appointments, just wondering which one for each?

Hi ladies, Hoping someone can help. So while Emirates was having its sale, I tried to book a flight from Toronto to Dubai return. The price was 1400 CDN. I made several attempts and it was unauthorised. I tried several cards, despite knowing that in each case, there was sufficient credit available and had on numerous occassions booked these flights using these cards. Nevertheless, I contacted the bank who confirmed that they had not declined the transactions and that it was an error with the Emirates online system. The next day, I tried again and had the same issues except now the price was 1600 CDN. I contacted my bank again who confirmed the same as before. I made several other online purchases and all was fine (its christmas time afterall :) The next day, I attempted again, had the same issue and noted now the price was 1900 CDN. I called the Emirates reservation desk and spoke to them. They noted that they could see that I attempted to book the ticket about 10 times at this point and said it was an error in the system. They advised that I wait 24 hours and try again. At this point, I asked whether they would honour the sale price since it was now 500 dollars difference (2000 AED!). The assistance said there was nothing they could do and on a personal level agreed that I was right but she didn't have the authority to do anything. She suggested that I file a complaint on their electronic feedback facility. I've done that. My first response was sorry, there's nothing we can do. Please try again. It was a standard response email. I responded saying, this was unfair, and I'd like to speak to someone who could possibly assist. We are loyal customers and on the basis that they can see we attempted to make the booking, to honour it. The response to that - please contact reservations if you want to book a ticket. There was no acknowledgment of the issues, not even an apology. I am sorry but to me this is not acceptable. So i know it may be a long shot but does anyone have a contact person whom I can file my complaint and at least get a non-standard response. If you'd prefer to email me the contacts, please do so at xmasbaby05 at gmail dot com. TIA

I found Moorfields was very busy and felt like we were rushed through the system. However they are obviously very experienced and professional. I just didn't like the doctor's attitude, others may feel differently. If in doubt I'd always get a 2nd opinion. Sorry don't know Dr Grimm. Hi, similar experience, similar thoughts re Moorfields. Even though another EW member had pointed out in a previous post that Dr Grimm is not a Paediatric Ophthalmologist, great to see LBSA's comment regarding her 8 year old daughter - will be making an appointment for second opinion. edited by Mom on 05/12/2012

When we packed our container I bought lots of arabic lamps for our garden. We had a photo shoot done in the desert and i got all the pictures put onto canvas as it's far cheaper to do that in Dubai. I also got a favourite chair covered before it went in to the container because, again, it was cheaper to have done there than in the UK. I bought lots of spices but took them in my luggage as we were not allowed any foodstuffs in the container. If you are into rugs probably best to buy some nice ones in Dubai. We also packed some prints from Gallery One to remind us of our time in dubai. I also bought some light fittings that I knew would look fab in our new house. Any trinkets that will remind you of your time in Dubai would be nice to have in your home back in Australia. Hi Clairehdp - am looking for arabic lamps and rugs - where did you buy yours? TIA.

Not forgetting that you require written permission from your husband to leave the country with your children, and also his permission (NOC) if you wish to work. edited by Alismum on 22/11/2012 I've left the country on my own with my daughter and was not asked if I had any permission from anyone. She is 17, but that is still not considered the age of majority here. simpleasabc, I haven't had first hand experience of this, but some posters in the past have mentioned that they were asked on exiting the country (?) or an SMS was sent to their husband informing him, and so they always carried a no objection letter. Maybe someone who is better informed that myself would know the exact ruling here :) I believe it depends on the passport, some require permission, others don't.

Hi Hairy Maclary. Jashanmal Books, Mall of Emirates, had a good selection of Lett's diaries. They had pocket size ones with Islamic weeks, about AED35-50 - it was a couple of weeks ago so not sure if they still have them. Worth giving them a call first?

Hi. I hope someone who has more knowledge and who has been in Dubai longer can help but in the meantime - Went through this exercise a few months back - at the time, there was nothing for rent, trawled through Dubizzle for a few months for renting and second hand, nothing suitable. Ended up buying a new Kawai from Carolyn at The Music Room. She has a good range and Carolyn was very helpful. Good luck!

Hi Mom, can't speak for dr Iyad as have no experience with him but I've been seeing Dr Tayeb since arriving in Dubai and he is definitely good. I like the fact that he takes his time and explaines things to you....no question is too silly or too much! He is pricey but in my opinion worth it. If you decide to see him, hope u find him as helpful as I have. HTH Thanks very much Plum Tree.
