Our family wants to have a staycation and spend the NYE here in Dubai. I'm trying to check hotels online but they are all sold out. Is it that occupied? or shall i contact the hotel directly? Which hotels would you recommend to stay and see the fireworks? I know it's expensive but it's still cheaper to have a staycation than to go out of the country on NYE

The one I really like the most with a quality finish is from Marina Home, expensive tho. Around 1,500 for a big tree.

Thumbay Hospital is good. I delivered my son last August there and the package we had on CS was only AED10,500, all in. Service from nurses to doctors are all good. It's a new hospital but the doctors came from GMC Ajman and they are indeed helpful.

Dear ladies, hope you can help....I am at the beggining of my 2nd trimester and still exploring best hospital for delivery- looking at quality but also prices as I dont have insurance .Important to mention I am high risk , so I have to think of possibility of preterm delivery and need of NICU. So far I have heard Latifa is the best for it , but they have closed NICU momentarily and not known for how long ?! So I have been advised by my obs/gyn to look at Zulekha hospital and GMC Ajman hospital which is sooo far away ( but the cheapest) from Dubai (new city) . Does any of you ladies had experince with those hospitals or know someone who did , if you can please share the experience as having first hand info is very helpful. Thanks so much in advance Hi leodavid84... I was searching for reviews abt GMC HOSPITAL AJMAN n came across ur post.. I m 33 weeks now n registered with GMC. . I guess u wud have delivered by now.. can u share ur experience wer u delivered? Thanks in advance :) edited by dhad214 on 10/11/2014 hi Can you please share your review on GMC hospital. I only had my antenatal check ups in GMC Ajman under Dr Kasturi which turned out to be helpful but the appointment system on this doctor is ****. However she is really great. :) I delivery at Thumbay Hospital Dubai which is a branch of GMC Ajman. Same group of hospitals. Me and my DS are fine and the doctors are good.

Well Dr. Braithwaite is really a non-charmer in terms of rapport during the first meeting. I also experienced what you said but she knows what she's doing. She helped me get through my miscarriage before. It's just her attitude is so straightforward and you might be disappointed if you are looking for a gentle soft spoken one. What was her advice about your infection?

Dear scan depends on what your OB requires. Prices depend on which facility. The hospital charges more. I highly suggest not to do any form of scan without your doctor's advice. Usually at your stage, you should take the Anomaly Scan. I had mine at Global Hawk Diagnostics center because the doctor I saw last time didn't have the equipment and just gave me a recommendation to do it.

I had a prenatal massage at 33 weeks last July at Bliss Reflexology in Garhoud near the Aviation college and it was great. However, they don't cater to women now and it's an exclusive male massage center. I also tried the Raffles Hotel Pregnancy massage and it's heavenly! AED500 for one session. Great facilities and masseuse did a good job to handle my delicate body.

I had a miscarriage before and Dr Braithwaite at the American Hospital took care of me. Her rate and the hospital is not the cheapest though. I'm seeing Dr. Lubna at Thumbay Hospital now and she's very good as well.

Nerma, like you, i had oculars on almost all hospitals here in Dubai, both gov't and private. We live in Deira. However, it all goes down to the delivery package as we dont have a maternity insurance (not covered). Luckily, one new hospital opened this year and through word by mouth of some nurses (of the same nationality as mine and their concern on our finances) they led me straight to Thumbay Hospital which is a branch of GMC Hospital Ajman, a reputable hospital for OB GYNE, pregnancy and delivery here in the UAE. They do have very reasonable packages and good doctors too. I have my DS with me and he is a healthy baby :)

Just a review of this hospital. I have delivered here 2 months ago and my experience on the delivery was ok. Not perfect but with the package they offer, it's already reasonable given that Dubai maternity and delivery packages cost an arm and leg. I had an emergency CS here as the baby went distressed. Doctors were very upfront and quick to act on their next step during the complication. I just don't like how they handle their Mother-child / Breastfeeding campaign. They are not a breastfeeding Hospital advocate. Nurses & Doctors were not aware how skin to skin is crucial on mom and baby once out. Service and private rooms were all very nice.

None of these solutions are practical as a long term solution for the whole summer. If you live in sharjah it's a requirement that all buildings install a device to cool the water for the whole building. So if you are in sharjah clearly that device is not working. If you are in dubai surely your neighbours are experiencing the same problem maybe you could talk with some neighbours and all make a complaint about the water temperature to your building management. the suggestions are indeed not long term but bldg management oftentimes play deaf ears about maintenance especially if it's not a new bldg or you are not renewing. Not unless it's a collaborative effort from all the tenants which is a pain to go through as others seem don't care (culture of Dubai neighbors), so I personally suggested a much practical and resolution to the problem. Storing water in containers at home to cool water is a best bet on this situation.

Hi Mommypie, I recommend Dr Anwar in City Hospital. I had something very similar during pregnancy and he sorted it all out with safe antibiotics. If you ring they will tell you there is a two week waiting list so just tell them you want a walk in appointment and just turn up, he will see you.....you can ask to be triple booked over the phone or as I said ask for a walk in, good luck! Thank you for the reply Daquiri. I tried to call for appt but no luck. I guess walk-in and will beg as my itching is now unbearable. I'm like a mad woman with this situation. As per my OB my baby is unharmed with this itching but I want to see a specialist to be safe than sorry. Thanks again.

Dear Ladies, I have been miserable and desperate to find a cure or at least a good relief for PUPPS or Polymorphic eruption of pregnancy but since Im preggo, i can't just take steroids or cream over the counter. It's getting worse at 36th week and i'm on my 38th week now that spread all over. Please recommend any reputable dermatologist that you know is knowledgeable about this.

Hi all, I'm heavily pregnant and have a toddler in tow. So it's not always the best for me to go grocery shopping. I tried Gaent and trolley.ae - both were average or hard to navigate. So I was happy when Choithrams launched their online shop and I have to say it's FANTASTIC!!!! I have done about 4 shops so far and they're great. It always arrives on time and if the meat, fruit n veg is great. Thought you mummies might want to know as it will save you a lot of hassle. Enjoy x do they deliver fruits, veggies and meat fresh?

Compared to home fuel is extremely cheap here It will be interesting to see how much it goes up by though Compared to home, education is much more expensive here. Compared to home, apples are ridiculously expensive here. Compared to home, for the same price I can rent a house with a garden I can only rent a 1BR apartment here. Compared to home... Useless comparison. Sorry. all this is sooo relative... yes education is more expensive here if u decide you want to study in a premium school... keeping that in mind though there are KHDA rated 'Outstanding' schools that have fees at AED 9,000 a year and those that are rated 'Outstanding' with fees of AED 75,000 a year! apples... hmmmm... yes they are ridiculously expensive here if u decide to buy the imported variety from the likes of Waitrose and Spinneys... but go to the fruit & veggie market in shindagha and get cheaper local alternatives! and yes housing is more expensive as well if u decide on renting in more expensive neighbourhoods... a 1BR in the Palm or Dxb Marina will cost u at least AED 100,000 a year whereas a 1BR in Deira or Ghusais would only cost u AED 40,000 Deira and Ghusais? No my dear... 1 BR in Deira now costs AED79k in a crappy and old building. The newer ones offer AED85-90k for 1 BR only.

Actually, you should really wash your hair daily with a shampoo as dirt and dust build up on our hair everyday especially with the weather of UAE. and for hygiene purposes, you should really do this to avoid bacteria that can cause acne from Hair. It's not true about it will make your hair more oily or greasier. It's hygiene. But!!! You need to stop conditioning your hair everyday or put any mousse or hair serum as this escalates the oily look. and try to use a different brand of Shampoo too (dry shampoo is best)

at this modern age, mankind's thinking is still savage and from the news we are reading and watching, i firmly believe that we are all dehumanized at some point. Sad part is, we just watch and hear and can't do anything because leaders of the world are apathetic.

You might want to consider Al Nahda for reasonable and if lucky, cheaper accommodation pricing and still has that city feel from Dubai. I feel that yes you can compute savings of 20k per year for housing in Ajman but bear in mind your security, safety and traffic while going to work in Dubai everyday. No money could compensate that, so yeah deal with it here in Dxb.

Wow twins! Take advantage of the upcoming Ramadan sale at the malls and the Ramadan night market too, some sellers have baby stuff all over. Also the Dubai Summer Sale is also coming so new items will be very low and cheap for you instead of buying second hand. But there are a couple of private sellers at Dubizzle that really sells good hand me downs, better check on it as well. Depending on the brand you want, you could also check BabyShop, Mothercare stores and for some high end baby products, Just Kidding at sheikh zayed road is also good.

When I found out I was pregnant (PT at home ), I immediately booked an appointment to the nearest OB clinic in our area. Had a scan at 8 weeks to confirm my pregnancy viability and it was all good. I had a couple of visits to different OBs on the early trimester because i want someone whom I can be really at ease with and share my hang ups as this is my first pregnancy. Do also check if your insurance covers maternity. Unfortunately in my case, it doesn't so along with OB hunting/ comes also hospital search which could have a reasonable budget for us and if something goes wrong with the baby. Yes, they do intensive scans and tests here to monitor your pregnancy and to be quite honest, I'm very happy with it. I am having my antenatal check ups at the American Hospital under Dr. Braithwite but then I am seeing now Dr. Kasturi at the Thumbay Hospital in Al Ghusais as they gave us a good delivery package there. I'm about to pop soon and couldn't wait despite the dreaded heat.

Do not eat raw foods such as sushi or medium cooked steaks/ barbeque Do not consume tuna as much as possible because it has high levels of mercury...remember the bigger fish the more mercury. For fruits, papaya is ok to be honest especially if you really crave for it but keep it in moderation. Added to this, pineapple is also another fruit to watch for or consume moderately. These two fruits were advised to me by my OB to be containing enzymes for labor and you wouldn't want to be on labor on the early stages of your pregnancy :)

marks and spencer has fairly reasonably priced winter undergear with wool and polyester make. Don't go for cotton please. It will not help you at all battling the coldness. Try to visit the outlet mall of Sun and Sand Sports at the back of Gold and Diamond Park in Barsha. Or visit the Dubai Outlet mall for winter sale gear. They have all brands there like North Face, Columbia, etc...

She is asst. Director and Professor. She will really sit with you to hear you out and your worries on pregnancy. Cheapest consultation too :D

It shouldn't be a problem, it's generally a problem getting pregnant and giving birth here out of wedlock only. I know single mums here. Hopefully someone will know the procedures. Good luck to your friend! Thank you silvstet. I accompanied my friend directly to the immigration last week to inquire and they are not helpful at all. They required married couples only....and shut us out at once. This is the reason I sort of ask on this forum, hoping that any single mom or who knows one who is able to have her child/children with her here in Dubai without complications.
