I have my relatives and friends doing this route in the past because of better job offers but after some time, from what I observed, stress took its toll on their lives eventually plus the risk of road accidents.

I really felt your agony reading your post. Allergy is something that's complicated indeed. DH has skin asthma weather related but eventually developed to more skin related probs too. He went to see Dr. Ibrahim, dermatologist at Belhoul European in Diyafah road then from there, the doc referred labtests for allergy testing. Insurance didn't cover it tho. It's expensive but it gave us the best solution to deal with the allergies of my DH edited by mommypie2015 on 26/02/2015

I'm still debating whether or not to wash the car... DH went to the carwash a day before the sandstorm (even if I told him to have it on a weekend instead) and he was really ****** for the past 3 days seeing our car almost covered with dust & sand, not to mention the rain after the storm! lol:biggrin: women's intuition pays but at times, men won't listen. edited by mommypie2015 on 25/02/2015

I believe Emirates Golf Club has reasonable prices for beginners. You may want to ring them and inquire. I don't play but my brother is so I can't help and recommend any gear.

We tried the Exchange Grill at the Fairmont and Cut by Wolfgang Puck. I personally liked the steak at Exchange Grill, the latter is also good but too expensive due to the name. +1 also for Gaucho. The Butcher Shop and Grill for vouchers (price is cheaper but tastes good too)

Hello Ladies, I know there are a few threads here on EW for wedding dresses but found them to be outdated. I am getting married in July and want to find a good tailor for my wedding gown. I have seen Dream Girls and Montexa being recommended but what I need to know is if anyone has had their wedding gowns made by them or other tailors recently, what was your experience and how much did they cost. I am not looking on spending too much on it since I will be wearing a different outfit for the reception. Your recommendations would really help me .. TIA edited by superchik on 25/02/2015 edited by superchik on 25/02/2015 Hi superchik, try to check Aristeo Designs Dubai Villa/shop along Jumeirah road near Emirates Bank signal and Emarat Gas station. They have their shop there. He made my reception gown beautifully. He ranges from AED4,500 & up for a gown. Depends on the material and dress design. There's also a good wedding dressmaker at Bur Dubai a few friends tried to have their wedding dress pegs done. AED2,500-3,500 is the range. Materials included in the price. They could copy the design you want, custom fit to you. It's near the Ambassador Hotel, let me know if want it and I'll get the number from my friend. edited by mommypie2015 on 25/02/2015

Hi Reemonita, I am not in the best position to give any help or advice for your situation as I am still pregnant with our first baby now and still waiting to pop but reading your post, I feel the distress you are going through as a mom. I However, I am also delighted to read how many posts here really offered sound advice to you and they even gave medical & doctor recommendations for your bub. Honestly, I am learning as well while reading it. I hope very soon your little baby will be able to cope and recover from this. You also take care not to stress yourself too much and just hold on.

I have to recommend my hairstylist Ron Bajacan (search him on FB). He is former head of Frank Provost and has 15+ years of salon experience. He's really good. He does private home service too but I hope it's not an issue if he is a man. Actually he's gay and very respectful of clients. My friends loved him. His price is very reasonable.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I believe if your insurance coverage has maternity in it, you just check your accredited hospitals in your network. City Hospital, American Hospital, Al Zahra Hospital have positive reviews here in the forum with insurance (at least from the threads i read). I personally go to American Hospital under Dr Braithwaite and she's good.

I know the score here, but think I may be pregnant. I'm not yet married, but am engaged. I need to make a GP appointment to confirm the pregnancy. Will they do anything with me being unmarried if the test is positive? Or do I have some leeway? Totally unexpected and now in blind panic! Take the Clear Blue Pregnancy Kit..buyt 2 or 3 pcs if you really want to make sure you are pregnant. If all came positive, then obviously you are. No need for blood test not unless you are experiencing discomfort now which maybe the result of some internal thing. Private Clinics do welcome cases such as yours. You might want to google some and try to inquire over the phone explaining briefly about your situation. They do receive calls such as this case of yours here in Dubai so don't panic. I had 2 friends who went on the same path in the past and they managed to have a few early check ups there. Just my two cents, I will not risk delivering the baby here in the UAE even if you get married asap, as paper work will take time. The reason is that immigration people or even the hospital people literally and strictly count the appropriate months you carried the baby and the date you got married. You could search on google about articles of women who faced problems with same. These are their rules and not to mention the stress it 'could' build in time to you thinking of how or why. It shouldn't be since the baby might be affected too. No judgement, not to sound too forward but only an opinion. edited by mommypie2015 on 23/02/2015

Hi ladies, I'm due my second baby in June and my toddler will be 2 years old then. I definitely don't want one of those big awkward double strollers but I've seen this online and it looks fab http://www.diapers.com/p/graco-roomfor2-stand-ride-stroller-metropolis-204608 I've checked Toys R Us and Babyshop here but they don't have it and seem to never have heard of it even :( has anyone seen these strollers here? It's Graco so fairly popular brand. I don't really want to order from US because this shipping will be extortionate. Thanks in advance Some supermarkets have baby strollers available like Carrefour, Geant with Graco brand too. You might want to try ask their customer service. I dunno but have you checked mumzworld online? You could inquire to the distributor too here in the UAE: infograco dot mea at newellco dot com

Hi all, I'm 9 weeks pregnant and keep finding myself really chilly, my husband is begging for the AC on as the room is 26+ degrees, and I am there covered in a fleece blanket! From what I've heard I'd expected to be over warm not over cold, has anyone else experienced this? I had my iron levels checked at 5 weeks and all was fine, I've booked for a blood test tomorrow to double check iron and thyroid, but don't want to seem like a hypochondriac and am just wondering if anyone else has had the same? Thanks! D I also experienced feeling easily cold during my week 11 -12 of my pregnancy. I am now on my 15th week going to 16th. My OB says it's about the hormones because all my blood work came out good. Perhaps you may want to try sip some warm drink to help? Yes, to be safe check all possibilities why you are unusually cold :)

Hello Everyone! I'm expecting my first in the end of August. Please share your experiences with me about Zulekha hospital and Latifa hospital. Also any kind of suggestions will be helpful for me. Hi Momtobe123! This forum is quiet lately. I haven't been to these hospitals for my pregnancy but i have friends who went there and delivered as well. Zulekha is good but they push C-Section most of the time. 4 of my friends delivered there under C-sec and one asked from the start she wanted natural however, when a little complication arised (though other docs will 'try' to find a way to relieve it the natural way) hers was immediately recommended to go for a C-sec. Latifa Hospital, 2 friends of mine delivered there and said that it was okay, nothing fancy. One got her new baby in the NICU and had been cared for really well. Pro-natural hospital and known for complicated pregnancies. Appointments, reception staff service were hit & miss as per my friends. You need to be assertive and patient with them. and no specific OB to expect with since it's a government run hospital. edited by mommypie2015 on 22/02/2015

mommypie, i think a lot of working parents look at putting their young ones into nursery care especially the ones for infants - 0-6 months rather than keep a live in nanny/maid. this way the baby is taken care of in accordance to the nurseries policy as well as working with you for what you prefer too. I've met maids who prefer newborns over older children simply because they are easier to manage and take care of, can't tell whats go on in the day etc. it's a really touch decision, personally i wouldn't be able to leave a newborn in anyones care and would try to manage the other expenses so i could be with the baby, but thats my opinion. Hi madam67! thanks for this tip. any nursery place that is highly reputable? I thought when I see nursery villas or establishments, they are schools? I'm just naive..we are new on this whole parent thing despite living in dubai for some time. I mean, we didn't ask or research much esp the nanny options yet..all we know is the live in nanny which is what most of our friends do and way too expensive! I would really love to stretch more of my time to bond with my new born but I am here in the UAE and maternity leave is limited as well the option of giving up my job is not on our cards in the family. Appreciate your feedback tho... As for moonflower, raising your daughter/s with knowledge on household chores is not a degrading thing nor a bad example. I sense discriminating views you have for those women who toil to do the 'dirty' work at their homes. Lucky that you are well provided for by your husband....but I hope in good faith that life will not strike back on you or your daughters when the 'sole' provider is gone...i hope you'll be able to keep up with your lifestyle.

Entering Mushriff park early morning.. Park person (woman): AED20 for entrance inside the car, i got hold of my wallet to pay her then ... Park person (woman): No, let your husband pay. Women don't pay.. my DH turned red as his money was also with me. so he had no choice but to say he had no money.. DH: Sorry madam but my money is with my wife (while blushing) Park person (woman) to me: oh, very good husband! ..i have given her the aed20 in the end while DH looked for our parking inside quietly.

how about if you have a newborn and you need to be back to work after let's say, 90 days here in UAE? Cleaning the house and ironing and laundry we could bail it to the shop or agency cleaner. But having an infant with work to juggle, how did you manage it? I need to work along with my husband to manage our finances here in Dubai. It's too expensive :(

hi Lolipop! I believe you could discuss your birth plan to your healthcare provider and I'm sure from there you 'll know how supportive she/he will be to you. I give the benefit of the doubt that most doctors would be helpful tho there are some who will go after the money push & for a C-section or epidural, up to your assessment to him or her. But if it's your birth plan, then go for it. However, it's a different case if you & the baby are in danger and medical intervention is necessary. As what they say, anything can happen once the baby pops out. All you could do is try your best to be healthy. I heard Al Zahra is pro-natural and also gov't hospitals here in Dubai (latifa, baraha, dubai hosp). Zulekha hospital & Belhoul has a reputation to perform majority of CS delivery to women.

Hi MKS! this review is helpful. Did you get an antenatal package prior to your delivery? Who's the attending OB you got? Hi Mommypie, I was with dr yamini and was paying appointment to appointment (no antenatal package). Thanks again for the reply. I heard the blood tests and scans are expensive if you don't get the package? How and where did you get your lab work done? al zahra also? Sorry to bombard questions, we have no insurance that's why every cost counts :( Noted for the OB reco. Congratulations by the way to your new bundle of joy!

I was thinking more the other way round - if the waiter's rubbish you would tend not to tip regardless of everything else being good.. We still put a tip as most tips in the UAE are being divided for the entire team.If the waiter's rubbish, i personally see to it that I request (politely) another person to serve us .. However if the entire experience is rubbish e.g food, service, cleanliness, ambiance....**** no tip at all! :D edited by mommypie2015 on 17/02/2015

if I remember correctly, e-gate is a paid facility whereas smart gate (but only works for T3 for now) is free as long as you are registered and a resident (and having some privileged passports listed on their site). Smart gate registrations are on a roll now (i guess their campaign) and we had a chance to have our infos as residents registered last week at Deira City Center. You need your passports ready and the Emirates ID card tho. I saw that online in the newspaper but it said only up to 18.02.2015??? Oh dear,i didnt pay attention on the deadline as it was only by chance that we were registered..perhaps they are having it else where again? not sure.

Gifts are bonus :gift: I still believe it should be 365 days to show the small or big gestures to your love ones. For the OP's question, i got a loveletter and suddenly got that first-time-we-fell-in-love feeling again since my DH is not that expressive in words. Was really happy to read something handwritten by him too :)

Welcome to Dubai! By March, it will be a little hot so better do your research and ask as many questions as you can. Being prego at 30 weeks plus environment adjustments will be a major one to deal with. I am just nearing on my 4th month of pregnancy so here's what I could answer and hoping to help. 1) I just know a few OBs that are pro-natural. my previous OB at the American Hosp Dr. Braithwhite is pro-natural and will help you out. However if you don't have insurance consultations to her are expensive .AED 850 then another doctor I read from reviews is Dr. Elsa from City Hospital and Dr. Helen from Healthcare city 3) Babyshop, Babies R Us, IKEA and Mothercare are affordable baby stores and also cheap when there's sale. However, for quality and good designs (but hefty expensive) try Pottery Barn Kids, Just Kidding and Mamas and Papas and that 'signature' baby strip at Dubai Mall on the 3rd floor i believe. 7) try to check Barefootdubai.com , NewbornDubai on FB ..they have packages for your requirement edited by mommypie2015 on 10/02/2015

Hi! my DH and i went on a hospital day tour last weekend and one of which we went to was GMC Ajman. I can say im impressed with how cheap their maternity packages are. For couples who don't have no insurance coverage for maternity like us and living in Dubai, this could be a very good option given some financial constraints. We are considering this hospital but very few reviews online from mom to be's going here. How was yours?

Hi! Any other mums expecting their bundle of joy in August? I'm also a newbie here and I find this forum so helpful. I am currently on my 13th week of pregnancy. This is our 2nd try and hoping the baby will be in full term. I had an M/C last Aug 2013 on our first and we were both devastated. Emotions were high for a couple of months which was why we decided to take things slow. Happy that by the holidays last 2014, we had good and positive news ;) I still haven't decided on my healthcare provider here in Dubai. Quite disappointed with my visits to the two OBs that were recommended to me. One seemed rushing me and not listening and the other one scolded at me when she knew I traveled last holidays! Not to mention both of them were seriously expensive consultations. btw, i have no insurance coverage for this pregnancy, so there. I read a couple of posts about OBs here but are there any recos ranging from AED250-350 only? I'm not planning to get an ante-natal package for the early weeks as I'm low risk as per last visit to the doctor. Reason is most of the important scans and tests are not included in the package, hence im just paying mostly the consultations and basic scans only. Im plannng in just taking the important tests and scans in a reputable yet cheaper clinic. What are your thoughts?
