Did you check if you need rabies shot? don't want to scare you, but better safe than sorry. I had the misfortune of being badly bitten by two separate strays while in Dubai. On each occasion the Dr's said there's no need for rabies shots in the UAE. I don't think there is an equivalent of " you're welcome" in the subcontinent. The most if is a smile/nod if your a regular/fav customer and even then, if you're a guy. Most men from Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, etc are taught to not engage in eye contact with women. I would think that in this region it is in their best interest to maintain that detachment. I get very surprised/shocked reactions from educated men from the region when I hold my hand out for a handshake! So I don't expect a reaction when I say Thank you. Can someone fill me in as to why we are talking about the non-existant "you're welcomes"? On my post about the tip, I just said I never got a "thank you" - either someone deleted a post or I'm going koo-koo - (or both, actually.. [url=http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php'>[img'>http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-signs002.gif[/img'>[/url'>...LOL) LOl..I'm just talking about the reason for the general lack of reaction/gratitude...no thank yous, no smiles, no nods from all the taxi drivers, the counter staff, the staff at supermarkets, etc. For all you know, they could just be considering your tip as payment for service rendered - so no need for thank yous? Makes total sense to me now. Thanks.

If a person saying 'thank you' is then miffed that they don't get a response back, then whats the point of saying thank you in the first place? Surely you just say 'thank you' to someone because you're appreciative of what they've done and its the way you are, to acknowledge this. You've done your bit, who cares if the person it was directed at doesn't respond! Do you really have to hear 'your're welcome maaaaaaaam' to be satisfied that your 'thank you' was acknowledged?! Its like people who do good deeds and then brag about it, again, whats the point? :) edited by Pomegranate on 22/11/2011 i dont know in what setting a person who looks the other way when a person says thank you is considered "normal". Certainly not in any situation i have been. A person doesnt have to say "you're welcooome", even a slight nod or faint smile is considered acknolwedgment. But just being plain expressionless and refusing to make eye contact is rude. I didn't say it was normal or acceptable. I agree (for my culture) it is considered rude from their side. But what I was trying to point out is, why be so upset about it? They did something for you. Whether it was to weigh vegetables or carry bags. You said thank you. Because you mean it and its how you are. They didn't respond or acknowledge, so what! You did what is right for you. This sounds like a Seinfeld episode lol They did something for me because I asked "can you please help me with the bags". I gave them a tip for it on my own will ( after they helped) and I didn't let them know I was giving them a tip before I asked. I just expected a simple "thank you" and got nada. You think this is ok?

Looks like it is - Hard Rock International has returned to Dubai with the opening of an outlet at Festival Centre in Dubai Festival City (DFC). The first Hard Rock Café in Dubai opened in 1998 on Sheikh Zayed Road, only to close down 11 years later – in March 2009 – due to deteriorating site conditions following the demolition of an adjoining hotel. The popular venue re-opened to diners at DFC on Friday (November 18) and is the largest outlet in the chain’s Middle East and Asian portfolios at 26,400ft sq with a seating capacity of 350 guests. The opening has come more than a year later than planned with the original opening date slated for October 2010. “Dubai is an important market for Hard Rock as the brand has been proud to be a part of the burgeoning Dubai landscape for nearly 15 years,” said Antonio Bautista, senior director – Europe, Middle East & Africa Franchise Operations & Development, Hard Rock International. “Hard Rock could not be more pleased to have a home in Dubai once again and we look forward to success in our new location for many years to come.” The new Hardrock Café Dubai includes a vibrant bar, convertible live music space and a 2500ft Rock Shop featuring Hard Rock’s limited-edition merchandise. Diners can take a first look at new memorabilia items from artists including Shakira, Aerosmith, Prince and The Who

Er... Maybe the staff aren't in the mood to talk? I usually go through my carrefour/lulu transactions without convos, either! doesnt matter; its particularly rude when i say "thank you" to the vegetable counter guy/lady and he sometimes doesnt reply even a word. I stopped giving tips to taxi drivers. I used to tip them when I asked them to help me get grocery bags out of the trunk. Never got a "thank you". Evah.

In the oprah show they interviewed a UAE national business woman who is westernized and very wealthy married into a prominent UAE family. . She showed off her large villa, perfect life, lovely kids, hubby who pays all bills as is the norm, housemaid that though the word of madam.....a dream life . I have UAE national friends who were offended this interview as it is not at all the way they live. Of course people if people back home watch this they think we are loaded. That show was a complete diaster and a lot of UAE national felt negatively about it especially the part where she said that the electricity is free! My jaw dropped when she said that. Maybe we should all send our Dewa bills to her :)

Sorry don't mean to hijack but I was one of the ladies who began Dukan n july and it didn't work for me, I was always extreeemely hungry and it was hard to stay on it and commit daily to a list of items I need to do extra besides my daily routine. I did Herbalife years ago and lost 12 kg in 3 months. You take a few pills (all supposed to be healthy and natural) and replace 2 meals with a shake (vanilla is the best flavor) blended with fruit that really fills you up. If you snack, eat fruits or crackers or pretzels. It worked for me and I didn;t have to fuss with a whole list of items to buy/make....it just added too much to my day! I understand that it might have worked for some people but for my lifestyle and twins, Herbalife works for me and I am doing it again. HTH MoT

Hi ladies, I was taught a sequence by my doula and this really helped with my twins as they were both very colicky in the first 3 months - bear with me as it's difficult to explain ( tried to google some images and i got some that are not EXACTLY the same but close enough), but here we go: Do this sequence with baby with diapers only. Sep 1- Stand up. Hold the baby like this (while standing up), with both hands on baby's lower belly, baby's legs hanging down. http://www.doggienanny.com/ukrainefamilyconnections/images/kris-images/Kristinawbaby-sm.jpg Count to 20. Step 2- Put one hand on baby's feet and bend them up, bringing baby's back to rest on your chest (other hand remains on belly) Let go of the belly's hand (other hand holding baby firmly against your chest) and massage baby's bottom in an outward motion. Count to 20. Hold baby's belly again Let go of baby's feet, going back to 1st position, both hands on baby's belly, feet hanging down. Repeat a few times. Do this twice a day. Hope it helps!!! MoT

Berry meringue! Easy to make. Shopping list: Whipping cream Fresh berries Meringue nests (Bakery section at Spinneys has them) Chocolate bar ( if you have it) Grab some nice tall stemmed glasses Whip some whipping cream (or get them in a can - even though the real stuff is way better!) add a dollop of whipped cream at the bottom Add berries Add crushed meringue nests repeat Top layer is whipped cream, shave some chocolate at the top to garnish. Might look something like this http://countdownevents.com/blog/sites/default/files/mmmyum.jpg?1313529202 or this http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pehd7WmC1tA/TWTXPxZqHxI/AAAAAAAAAHA/npDeMGIo6OA/s1600/DSC02753.JPG
