Speak to Kellie - she's amazing! great media contacts and really does go that extra mile. She's thorough, hard working and a very very good egg and really easy to deal with. Her company is Mamamedia Check out her facebook page for Mamamedia https://www.facebook.com/mamamedia Thanks :) With regards to websites - it's a bit of a minefield - a home made template might not necessarily be the look you are after. nor have the time to do it yourself. I like six.com for templates, they don't 'look DIY' if that makes sense. Am also very happy to advise on this as it's a personal bugbear. a lot of local 'web design' companies over charge for what can be done much cheaper these days. MANY good websites are based on premium wordpress themes for example - customised graphically - this always the advantage then of being easy to maintain and update. I am also assuming that you just need a functional 'information' site for your business rather than e-commerce , payment portals etc. You can get a very good looking customised WP theme site for approx AED 2000

There is more than one company in the UAe who do wall decals, and one that does them to you own design. Google Taki Wall, Wall tastic & E-walls ( yes really :) :)

We had our Type 9 in Savannah modified with an office built in the void above the front door - back in 2009 - I heartily recommend David Taylor , Cygnet - 050 650 2079 - A British owned business, and he will be able to talk you through all the regs too. The price was surprisingly reasonable too IIRC and not too much 'hassle' living with the works. Give him a call!

Yes, it's the kids part of the Dubai 92 Spinneys cycling event - they have improved the family part of the day with jumping castles and activities etc. I'm going with the guys from Desert Chill Ice Cream as they are trying to get a gang of kids together for the kids challenge at 9.30 andd I know the kids get medals and a Desert Chill goodie bag for participating.

Would never buy in Dubai again. Of course, I am slightly bitter that I bought at the height of the market as it was cheaper than renting then and my AR Villa is probably worth 1.6 Million less than I paid for it - but that's not the reason! Still over-priced compared to rest of the world with regards to quality and value - and all the reasons laid out below...

No implications really. many people (property owners mainly) set up 'businesses' a s a means to a residential visa. DMC freelance licenses cost an absolute arm and a leg . Cheapest options come in at the equivalent of approx AED 40, 000 a year (inc. a visa) edited by Mother Inferior. on 16/08/2011

The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are the Saheel / Savannah ones in Arabian Ranches, but they are more like AED 180K, so that's not much use for you. Can't think of any other community types that have a garage only the huge expensive ones. There will probably be some non-community ones, but that would mean driving around the areas you are interested in and looking for 'to rent' signs on houses with garages... good luck with your search! Yes, Savannah *start* at 180k - just rented my 3 bed out for quite a bit more than that too. Remember, *all* the Ranches houses that have Garage doors on have been put there after handover, *so*, and of course it wouldn't be ideal, if you found the perfect place for you without one, you could always put one in yourself? Landlord might even help with cost..

It's weird as it *is* addictive , but it acts a bit like my 'water cooler' I guess, i don't spend that much time around other adults in a working week etc, love some of the wittier journalists, and 'ordinary people' - have a lot of great banter on there as a rule..

I think it depends on the place/area/location. I am a LandLord, so of course I have a vested interest, but The Springs example below is a good one.. i thinks it's all about individual properties and areas, certainly for villa's apartments, you should be naming your own price methinks.

Hard to say - I don't think there is any fluctuation to be honest, as it's a very popular time for people to be looking/moving/moving over. I can't comment on the rest of the market, but we are re-letting our's currently and have gotten in touch with an agent this week, and it has been 'valued' at more than last year for rental

We use Those Pool Guys. Think its around 300 per month for twice a week. Comes out of UK bank account every month so don't notice it. Found them helpful on the phone and when we had a leak they helped sort it out for us, Also stopped paying at there suggestion for the month it was being fixed since they couldn't do any maintanance. that sounds about a good deal though, Ours is via Pools by Design , who are *great* , owner lives on Ranches, but I think it costs a lot more than that.

Well, going with current market rate at the mo - haven't started marketing it yet though, it's a gorge house AED 220k MotherInferior, is it a 3 bed or a 4 bed? I´ll actually be in the Ranches tomorrow to view some properties... any chance to have a quick look? Thanks Hi there, it's a type 9 - which is traditionally a 3 bed, but it has an emaar approved 4th room - I used it as my office, it would be the equivalent of a 'box bedroom'

Right. Stop it you lot. Stop wishing her well and congratulating her and ENCOURAGING her!!!! Oh Claire. Oh Claire. Oh Claire. Dubai will be sad without you. Janesul will be sad without you. You were my very first contact when I reached out for advice 3 years ago and you've been my stalwart friend ever since. Never once have I felt that I couldn't ask you for something and you've been the very first person that I go to for advice about anything. You've had a thoroughly awful 12 months and you've borne your grief with dignity and resolve and never once has it threatened to break your spirit. I don't need to tell you how much our family will miss yours. I know that your return to the Motherland will be an enormous success and our loss is definitely their gain. Some people brighten up the world wherever they are and you are one of those special people. Looking forward to many more adventures together - forever friends never really go far away do they? Bottoms Up Mrs Dubai :D Wot she said :) :) *but at least I've got *one* friend in my own country now :) xxxx*

Thanks plum2, had ruled out AR because was told it was too far out so will now include. Can't remember from my look-see visit, do you have to go anywhere near Sheik Zayed Road? Would love more details on the house in Savannah. There doesn't appear to be too many photos on Dubizzle. Are there more dedicated websites for individual communities with photos of different types of villas and floor plans etc? Hi there, The house on Savannah is mine - it is available from end August (24th to be precise) you can email me on copykellie AT gmail dot com

I made the acquaintence of a skin 'expert' recently.... would totally trust her opinion on anything now -I had micro-dermabrasion - Dr Mona Mirza of Biolite at DHCC - can pass you her details if you've got any Q's - or you could meet her yourself on May 16th :) edited by Mother Inferior. on 08/05/2011
