If they are two different sections, would she be made to pay? Surely once an NOC and transfer has happened, no matter what the explanation is, the final date for settling outstanding monies is gone. I would assume there is nothing they can do about it as it seems like its their error.

My friends sold their property in Dec 2011. They were the first owners and had the property for nearly 2 years. Community charges were issued in Aug 2011 and she mentioned this to the agent who advised that it will all be picked up and paid for before the NOC and property transfer to new owner. In other words, the NOC and transfer cannot take place until all fees/charges are paid. So she did not worry. Now, 2 years later they are receiving quite strong emails saying that they owe the charges and are being threatened with legal action. This sounds like a nightmare and should not be allowed to happen. But this is Dubai! Is there anyone on here who can help with some advice on this? My friend cannot prove that this was paid or not as she doesnt have records as it was so long ago. Where does she stand legally?

I really did not intend for people to react to my question in this way. You are in no position to judge the circumstances without knowing them. So keep your opinions to yourselves if you cannot offer any help. The person in question is 6 months pregnant has pulled a muscle in her neck and back and finds moving around a little restricting. Husband is out of the country and skyping with her, asking her to get a maid/nanny. She is very capable of running the show without him and copes ok. Its just that moving around is restricting and with a toddler, its hard. Would this elaborated story do for those who have judged me unfairly?

We also need some information on either a resident visa or any other just to extend for about 1 year. We own a property over 1m but have a mortgage on it. Does this mean we do not qualify for a resident visa under this scheme? We have lived in Dubai since 2005. Any help would be much appreciated.

As everything has changed in Dubai regarding expats in Dubai using the services of the British Embassy, what shall we do about our new born baby's citizenship application (Form MN1). Two years ago, we completed this form, accompanied by all original documents which were posted to the UKBA in London. Documents were returned. However I understand the BE Dubai is not offering this service anymore and people have to register post these to the UKBA, London. Am I right please? All much more complicated than before.

Yes. We are deciding to go 'independent' as this would be better all round. He will still keep his job with the company but we are not reliant on his company for anything plus this is permanent.

HCTS: Thank you very much. As said, he has been out of Dubai more than in, although he did see/hear something about it but didn't know the security device has actually been implemented. Yes, it does sound a major pain and inconvenient. The website says its for extra security reasons but surely even this level cannot be 100% safe. Will tell him to go to a branch in Doha and wonder if he can order one there as I believe it takes a few days to be delivered.

Is there anyone out there who owns a property in Dubai and has a residence visa on the strength of that? We heard that there was a new law that issued visas for property owners. Is this right? Would value your input.

DB: I didnt say I was repeated giving the same advice. I did however say, I gave it ONCE ONLY and I went about it in a very gentle way. I dont believe in forcing my views on anyone. She has not however, taken it on board. When I came on here, I just wanted to know from others whether I had a fair point or not! From my past experience, someone in the UK had damp on the walls in the little boys bedoom and by the time he was seven, he was ashmatic. So am concerned for this little chap. Its not like you think that I will force my views on others, I am NOT the sort! You dont understand, she doesnt use the air con but at times only the rotating fan, so not much air circulation happens.

So could the wet washing in the baby's room be a contributory factor to poor health at times? I am happy to hear anyone's views as to whether this could be the case.

M: I came to EW members to ask for their advice and life experiences, not for any other reason.I repeat, I am not trying to force my help on my friend, I am just trying to find out from others, whether my thinking is along the right lines, that's all. And no, I don't intend repeating myself to my friend either.

DB: This is a forum where we can help each other! There is no better help than experiences from others so why dont you see it that way? Sometimes people who have no experience do not know and they also think they are right in their thinking. But, when there is a little baby whose health maybe affected, I do not want it on my conscience that I did not flag it up! Did your mother try in her own way to help you with any of her life experiences? That is all we are trying to do here. You are being quite aggressive about it all and not seeing the usefulness of this forum where people actually learn from each other. I did not say I was wanting to force my experience on her, and I never would, if she wants her baby to be affected, then so be it! JB: I hear you, you are on my page, there is a link between dampness and chest problems in poorly ventilated rooms. Thank you for hearing me out. This person lives in Dubai. I know lots of people in the UK who dry their clothes indoors, they have to, but its not ideal but again, it would be advisable for good air circulation.

I have plenty of experience with bringing up children though and to me, this is common sense. She has no dehumidifier and nothing to measure the air quality and moisture quality. She has plenty of space to dry washing in other rooms and yes, there is a spare room also. She is though insisting on drying the clothes next to her bed and the baby's cot is 5 feet away. It is just not rocket science as the moisture has to escape somewhere (there is no air coming in from outside as she wont open a door/window). I can appreciate you having to dry clothes inside and each to their own! And no, her clothes have never been outside.

Thank you so much. I am not a Westerner, I am from Japan, married to a British man. My English is good as I attended a college in the UK and got the qualifications to go anywhere in the world. DH is a degree qualified Engineer who has worked in Australia before, for one year. On the strength of his visa, I am hoping to qualify to enter Oz. Yes, thank God for healthy kids. Medical - yes I think DH will get his provided and me and the kids will have to source our own. Is this expensive to purchase?

Thank you very much for your advice, I really appreciate you taking the time to write on EW. DH will be employed as a resident engineer on a LNG (liquid natural gas). The company he is with is keen for him to join this project, as they think very highly of him as an employee. I agree, they should offer some sort of assistance for his family in terms of visa information and we are happy to pay for myself and the kids. So will take your advice and sound them out first. I cant imagine that they would expect him to go without his family and totally agree with you on this point. I think the visa they will issue him willl be the sub-class 457. I work in a bank and have lots of office administration experience. Kids have no illnessnes, thank God. Any other advice from you would be hugely appreciated. Many thanks again.

Abu Dhabi and Dubai consultates direct you to their websites. I would like to speak to a person so maybe need to track down an agent for further help. Thank you both. I work in a bank in Dubai as an administrator so dont have many transferrable skills myself but am told I can get in on DH's skills as a building construction engineer. His company will sponsor him and get his visa.

Can I ask what the current procedure is to obtain a British Passport for a new born? The child's granny lives in the UK and can process the application in the UK. This is the second child and the parents jumped through hoops trying to follow the procedures in order to get a passport for child number one. For a start the child had to have British citizenship, then the passport.
