Got my grandson's passport 2 weeks ago. My son, the applicant and my grandson had to be in the country to accept delivery. Having said that, when the passport was delivered, no one had to sign for it, so how do they know who accepted it? Im confused with their system here as, during numerous phone calls, I was emphatically told, both my son and grandson had to be present in the UK.

Anyone opened an offshore account recently? If so, which bank can you recommend? want to open a savings account and wonder what the interest rates are like at the moment. People are telling me that you can tie your money up and earn 8-15% but dont want to do this long term.

Try the UAE Labour Laws, this can be downloaded from the Ministry of Labour website. Sorry you are unhappy with your employer, but this is sometimes the case for lots of expats. Can you be more specific about your job problems?

Can anyone recommend a good accountant who deals with UK tax matters to include CGT please? We sold one of the two properties we own in the UK and have just been contacted by the HMRC about CGT. I was told we were not liable as we have been out of the UK since 2002. The first property was bought and let in 2003 and the second was bought and let in 2005.

Thank you to for all your responses. I have learned a lot from all your experiences and want to say that EW members have a wealth of knowledge. It is nice to know we can help each other. Yes, it was my gut feeling that we should either hang on to it or change to a bigger property when we can afford it, for the sake of returning to it if need be and also for the sake of the children's uni applications etc. Is anybody paying into their NI contributions while abroad or do you think it is not worth doing?

Painted and filled in all holes of apartment we moved from. Was as good as new! In new apartment, painted the maids room, painted the cupboard downstairs, hung up 4 sets of curtains to include putting up new curtain poles, hung up pictures and wall clocks, assembled unit to put DIY stuff on. His name is Mangala and his numbers are: 0552674497 and 0554469359. He operates with his team who are perfect workmen, they even clean up and put rubbish in your bin or take away any big cardboard etc. Very reasonable and how have his number in my phone for future work. You cant ask for more!

Sorry to hear your news, my prayers are with you and your family. Am sure you can give your support from a distance as there are so many ways to communicate but know what you mean about being there for your Mum and sister. These things cant be helped, lots live abroad nowadays. You can always go tot he nearest Church and light a candle for your Mum. Ladies, have you heard that anti perspirants are also thought to be a cause of breast cancer. Appparently there is aluminium is them and we should be using the aluminium free ones. There was a write up int he Times newspaper some time ago. I just use Impulse body spray and nothing else.

The hospital give you a Birth Notification with English details on the left hand side and Arabic on the right. You then take it to the Ministry of Health where your English version will be typed up (cost 50Dhms). You then take it to the FCO for them to attest. You are then ready to go! Are you applying for a British Passport? If so, I can guide you.

We had to paint our apartment too, there was no way the LL was going to accept it back unpainted. We had a Sri Lankan company and had a man called Mangala and his team to paint throughout. Very cheap price. Contact number: 055 2674497 or 055 4469359. I would recommend him to anyone who wants a good job done at very reasonable prices.

Yes, his name is Mangala and mob no is 055 267 4497. He is from Sri Lanka and has his team of DIY boys who practically do anything. Work of very high standard. Hung all my curtains to include curtain poles, assembled a shelving unit, hung on clocks and other things on the walls, painted the apartment throughout. DS is leaving his present company and has found another job in Dubai. His current employer is advising that they have to provide and pay for a flight back to the UK but is insisting that he books his flight. He is not wanting to do this as he is wanting to start work with the new company almost straight away. Can the employer inisist on him booking the ticket or can he be reimbursed? What are the MOL laws on this please?

Thanks for this and sorry not been on here for a few days. The developer cost buyers a lot of money in interest due to late delivery and if others have succeeded in taking legal action then I will do the same. They shouldnt be allowed to get away with late delivery. If we didnt pay for the 2 years, they would be taking legal action against us. Should work both ways.
