Mossies in VH are not any worse than other villas generally speaking. There are certain times of the year when they surface. Am advertising my villa for sale and there is a lot of interest so should sell this fairly soon. Very happy neighbourhood as you say, great for families.

My DD dries her washing in the bedroom where the baby sleeps. She says that the UAE climate is dry and this is a good way of keeping the atmosphere hydrated. Im not so sure about this and am asking for your advice please - my thoughts are that this may cause too much moisture therefore the baby may pick up colds/coughs etc which he sometimes has. Please help

My DH company has just informed staff that the management has decided not to accept any leave applications with immediate effect due to urgent site requirements and the admin department will not process any leave applications until 15th December. My DH wants to book a few days in November and December - can a company take complete control where the booking of leave is concerned. What do the UAE Labour laws say?

Apparently an announcement was made last week on the radio/papers etc that the deadline has been extended to get your Emirates ID card. My DH hasnt got his yet as each time the deadline has been extended. Edna, so can my DH wait until 1 June 2012 to get his ID card then? Its all so confusing and companies putting such a lot of pressure on their staff to get this done.

Ok, so starting at 7 and finishing at 8 or 9pm is the norm, then the long journey from Abu Dhabi to Dubai (another 1.5 hours) - us as a family will change our working strategy and leave Dubai when we can afford to. 12-14 hours a day and only paid for 8! Speaks for itself even though some of you think its the norm, it wont be for everybody. There is definitely more to life than living and working in Dubai!

Thank you all. In an earlier conversation with the Passport Service in the UK, they told me that the parents can come to an appointment fill in the forms, with all documentation to include the completed SE1 form. Then they can post it to their UK address and Granny can receive it and deliver to the parents. From a conversation last week, they told me that the applicant must be in the country to receive it. Trouble is, my son and family are coming for christmas and cant be here to collect because they have jobs to return to in Dubai. Now I dont know whether to use the Dusseldorf option or wait until they come to the UK again (the application takes 7 calendar days, not to include christmas hols).

Yes, he is a manager. But then all staff working in his team also sign for more hours than they do. Surely they are breaking the UAE Labour laws?

Ok, probably the best thing to do is to get the ID card. So I just turn up at the Al Barsha Post Office, complete a form, then they type it up, I show my passport, then its fingerprints and photo. Then they give me the card and passport back and I pay them a fee. Is that the sequence? Ive heard so many different ID Card processes, it is driving me mad.

He is wondering whether they need his passport in order to process the Emirates ID Card. Please help!

Dentro, if you have something attested it is only a stamp you are wanting from the MOFA I dont understand why you had to sign. My DH has signed already in front of the BRitish Embassy, step 2 is to have the attestation stamp from the MOFA. I am confused

Does anyone know of a company who will assist with going to the ministry of foreign affairs and the embassy to have a document attested? MY DH has no time working 6/7 days a week, his working life at the moment means he is in his office 12 hours a day, 6 or 7 days a week. I am praying he will get this other job!

Gorobattie: They are a horrible building construction company who are dictating to their employees and yes, very rude indeed. If he hadnt got commitments he would leave immediately. He is though looking for another job as this employer seems like they are trying to kill their employees. Emirates Card is one thing, asking them to work seven days a week is another recent request.
