Hi Ladies, I would love to get some advice from those of you who have been on cruises and loved the experience. I am looking at cruises to the Caribbean or Europe around July-August of 2014. We are four families scattered across the globe...one in India, we are here and two in the US who are planning to have a reunion on a cruise ship. I am looking for recommendations on cruise liners that have good friendly staff and service and cater to kids (two of the four families have kids). I have looked at several online sites but can't seem to figure out which one is better than the other, so am hoping to get some recommendations from those of you on here who have done the cruise vacation and enjoyed it. TIA!

Thanks for the advice SS...no hubby is not a high altitude trekker...in fact not much of a climber so your advice is much appreciated. Climbing Kili is definitely on his to-do-list, but he also wants to be able to enjoy the experience...so we might have to turn it into a min-vacation where we can spend a fortnight in Africa, get accustomed to the food and altitude and then he can do the climb after. Don't think we'd be able to afford staying there much longer than that.

Hi...I use Royal Top Cleaning Service....their maids are mostly Filipino and I am pretty happy with the cleaning. They charge the same..but I think there is a 2 hour minimum. Only downside is that sometimes I get different maids so I do have to show them where everything is and how I like it cleaned, but they are quick learners. The number is 04-2204980

Hi all.. Am looking to put a playlist together to keep me going and motivated during my workouts. Can be new music or older stuff....anything with a good, peppy beat is what I would like. So maybe if everyone just replies with their fav song...that might give me a place to start. Thanks in advance!!

Hi I know ARTE runs the first and second Friday of every month all year long so you could try there. Go to www.arte.ae for more info. They have their sales at DFC and Oasis Mall on SZR. Good luck!

Hi...my lil one wasn't too happy when we made her sit in a car seat for the first time either. She cried and screamed, but I just tried to divert her mind by singing her favorite songs and talking to her, but I didn't pick her up. She cried for several days, every time we put her in the car seat and then I think she just accepted it. Now she is absolutely fine and has no problems with the car seat at all. So I would say keep at it....she will eventually stop screaming (especially for the car seat as its a safety issue). Don't take her out as soon as she starts crying or she will know that every time she cries you will give in. Good luck!

I am posting this for a friend of mine. She has been having a lot of problems sleeping at night for more than a couple of hours at a stretch and it is really beginning to show. She is tired all the time and her eyes burn but she just doesn't seem to get any sleep. I would really like to help her and so am looking for any suggestions from others who have faced this problem. Should she go see a general physician or another doctor? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi...sorry took me a little while to get to it...this is a type of ficus tree....It can usually tolerate a lot of water and in this heat, esp if its outside on the balcony, you would need to water it everyday. Stick your finger into the soil and if the top inch or so seems dry then it definitely needs water. They all look a little ratty this time of year but it should pick up in Oct/Nov once the cooler weather sets in and humidity is a little less. If it doesn't look better after a few months, then try to fertilize it in Nov with a high nitrogen content fertilizer...all fertilizer bags come with an N-P-K content that would read something like 10-10-10. Look for one that has a higher first number (that's more nitrogen which will help to produce more green leaf growth). Don't fertilize now though...its too hot. Hope this helps. Good luck!

They have something for all ages there. Theres a toddlers soft play area for the small kids. Your little one will enjoy it regardless. Theres also a dolphinarium opposite the childrens city that has shows on through the day. Thanks Asti...always good to find new stuff to keep DD occupied during the summer!

We went to the Lakeland store at MoE. DH was super excited as he saw cooking knives that looked similar to the ones they used on the Junior MasterChef Australia program!! So we just added two more knives to our already huge collection of cooking knives (rolling my eyes)!

Hi Ladies I am posting this on behalf of a friend who is desperately looking for a live-in maid. She has two kids, aged 8 and 11 and a third on the way pretty soon and lives in Sharjah near the Qanat-al-Qasba. She is very kind, would take excellent care of her maid and would be an easy employer to work for. If anyone is leaving behind their maid and wants to find her a good replacement home or has any recommendations for a maid, please let me know asap. TIA

You could also check IKEA at DFC. I saw a board or brochure there a few months ago advertising IKEA's in house design services. You could call and check with them if they still offer the service esp. if you're on a tight budget. edited by mum2k on 01/07/2012

Hi apm... I haven't been to the Garden Souk for a few months now but I know that they also sell pots (both traditional and modern ones) and gravel and other garden material in addition to plants. You'll have to go there and check if they have the quantities you want for the pots. Some of the vendors might be able to order them for you if you don't need them right away. Do a search on the forum for directions. There are many posts that give pretty exact directions. Good luck.

Get rid of her quickly and as someone else said ban her. If you can't trust her with your kids, she should not be allowed anywhere near them. If this happened to me I would never be able to leave my kid with her again. God only knows how many times she has lied to you before....you got lucky and caught her out this time! I'm sure it must be really difficult to find someone new that your lil one and you have to get used to again but I don't think you really have a choice here.

I started worrying about my DD not getting enough play time with other kids when she was around a year old. We decided to wait to send her to nursery till she is about 2 because I spend plenty of time with her (as I am also currently not working) playing and singing and she loves being with me. I also try to get her a little more exposed to other kids by joining music classes or other baby activity classes a couple of times a week (there are many all over Dubai so I'm sure you can find something close by to DIFC). There are many classes that are about a half hour long that you can pay-by-class and if its close by the cab fare a couple of times a week should be pretty low. If you are worried about getting along with other moms on regular play dates you could always join these classes where if you or your lil one are not happy, you don't have to go back. I'm sure you'll find something for both you and your lil one. I'd definitely wait till she is older for nursery. Besides now is the time she's going to really start doing new things everyday and its a real fun time to be with her so if you are lucky enough to be able to stay at home, enjoy your time together.

Hi Annoga I don't know about 1,2 and 4 but as far as landscaping your garden, the cost will vary widely depending on what you are looking for. Do you just want to change out plants or add a stone or wood patio or a water feature. You'd need to provide a little more information to get some idea of costs. You mentioned you are renting so I'm guessing you are not really looking to spend a lot on something you won't eventually own? If you want more information on your garden, you can email me at edited by mum2k on 13/06/2012 edited to remove email address edited by mum2k on 17/06/2012

This is a gr8 thread. Thanks for sharing. I've found I eat more often than not because Im bored and not really because I'm hungry. And you're a hundred percent correct in that you need to be mentally prepared to commit to a good plan before you rush out to start losing weight. I've lost weight before, keeping it off is the hard part so Im going to adapt this plan and take some inspiration from you. Hope you reach your goals and thanks again for posting this!

For flowers you could go for bougainvillea and desert rose both readily available here and both which do fantastic in this weather with very low maintenance. Just water them often....bougainvillea will grow very fast so you might have to keep it trimmed if you dont want it rambling all over your balcony or alternatively train it on your balcony walls for a fantastic splash of color. No need to take them indoors....the more sun the better they flower. Good luck.

I've always done threading....it is more painful but I'm used to it since I've been doing it for years. I've found it to be much more effective than waxing and the hair growth reduces over time.
