Oh my! Where do I start! Anything by Aamir Khan is a favourite. Romantic movies? From the ones I have watched, and I haven't watch a lot, I thoroughly enjoyed Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Barfi.

Our rent went up two consecutive years and while we would like to move to somewhere cheaper (and we have looked), we realize we have it quite good in our present place: location, amenities, utility bill, AND great neighbours. We're staying another year but have the feeling we'll stay another year after that and another after that.

Hmmm... I don't have any experience nor do I know the process but this could be a bit tricky as she will be working there and therefore will need a work visa. A work visa is not an easy process either as there a things that need to be met before a work visa is granted. Hope someone here can help you.

Biking is really all about balance. Our kids used the balance bikes for a few months and it took them only about 10 minutes to get on pedal bikes. Pedalling is a no-brainer if you know how to balance. If you can take off the pedals or if your child can just run while sitting on the bike, he will learn how to balance. Show him how. But if he just does not want to, then he's probably just not ready as Daza said.

Hi, does anyone know the process? I have been told that I have to have the documents reviewed in Ottawa and then attested by the UAE embassy in Ottawa. Does anyone know if this is correct? Is it possible to have them attested here in the UAE? Thanks in advance. I do not know the process but I do know that it cannot be done here and must be done in Canada. My husband had brought all our documents thinking they could be attested here. He had to fly back home because it could only be attested in Canada. The whole thing took about 2-3 weeks, if I'm not wrong.

The Old Library at MOE is a nice library. Small but I've found many books I have been looking for there. No desk space, although there is a desk there that the librarians sometimes use as a work table. I'm also usually in and out after 10 minutes. I can't really sit down and enjoy a good quiet read. The librarians, when I am there, are often TOO LOUD.

Lego is about a third more expensive here sadly! I order online and just get family to bring it over. Sometimes people sell second hand lego on dubizzle which is just as good, honestly my parents bring over lego that used to belong to my brother and I, and it's in perfect condition I do the same thing! We buy on Amazon and then family brings it over when they come. Or when I go back, I "stock" up to bring here for gifts.

As other posters have suggested: 1. Rainbow Loom (My girls are the same age as yours and absolutely love RL. Their friends ALL have them. Even the boys.) 2. Lego Friends (the blocks are pastel coloured rather than solid) 3. Scooters, or any kind of riding toy. 4. My girls love crafts and are now into sewing and crocheting. There are kits you can buy in stores. 5. Books and puzzles.

Fire the new employee and ship him and his ill-behaved family back to where they came from. If this behaviour is deemed normal in the privacy of their home one can only guess how the professional attitude will be. It may not be far off. You're in for a lot of trouble with this family and in this country as a sponsor you carry lots of responsibility. Get rid. Exactly.

Not the same school but my cousin's wife went back to her country (3 weeks before summer hols) to give birth and stayed on for about 1 month after school started. The school allowed this and the teacher gave her DS school work for the weeks that he was away.

I went to get some tests done with a doctor but feel like I am not getting nor will get the care I would like. I would like to see another doctor but don't want to have to do the same tests and have to pay for them. Insurance won't pay for same tests done by different doctors. My question is, is it possible to request a copy of the results of the test and also a copy of the first doctor's report? Yes, you have the right to get a Dr's report & copy of the tests, I always do, & some doctors give copies to the patients without asking Thank you!

Try this http://mylist.ae Thanks Mumto2, have you used them? I was actually discussing with a friend last night & she has used the MyList service and said it was fantastic! So I am going to sign up :) No, I have not used this site before but I remembered it because of a show I was at a couple of years ago. The lady who came up with this site was there and spoke about it. I hope this works well for you as it did your friend!

OP, I think an IB curriculum in an American school will probably prepare your child for an American university but I don't think it will necessarily "open doors" to an American University. In the University I used to work for, we had a few students from Dubai who went to Our Own English. They had good grades in high school and also had a high teofl/ielts score. They did well in their undergrad as well. I know one of them is back in Dubai working, another one stayed and is now a very successful editor of a magazine.

It's all about timing for me and not so much the size of the parking lot. Mornings right when the store opens or late night during weekdays. Never during the weekends but if I have to, Friday mornings. Also, if I go to the grocery store close to us, although it opens at 730, the best time to go is around 830am when the school run is over. Lots of parents park at the store lot when dropping their kids off.

Unfortunately yes :( We lived in Muraqqabat, at the back side of Reef Mall, for 6 yrs (2004-2010) we started from 35k and every year there was an increase. We left when we reached 65k. We are now in Al Nahda2 and we started here at 53k on 2010. We are now paying 59k/yr. It's not as bad as the others but they do increase yearly. We are now actually contemplating moving to Al Nahda. The rental increases over there, as reported by friends, have been gradual and not as drastic as ours has been.

It is increasing but what you are paying is a lot more than ours. We pay AED1400 for 20 lessons (group). And you pay 20 lessons at a time? Yes.

Yes, now they can. But only if you are currently below the average rental for your type and area and you get 90 days written notice. Check here:http://www.dubailand.gov.ae/English/eServices/RentalIncreaseCalculatorEN.aspx Yes to both. We live along SZR in one of the old buildings. The rents are pretty reasonable but the new buildings in the area are at least 100k more than what we pay giving rise to a higher average which of course results in rights to increase rents. Sigh... looks like we'll have to move.

We live along that strip, about a 20 minute walk to the Fairmont, in one of the older apartment buildings. We have a 3 bed plus maid. It's a fairly good sized apartment as well (2400 sq ft). We have a pool and gym at the top. The going rate in our building is 160k. Chiller is free and we pay about 700AED for Dewa.

so they can leave the country back to the philippines without their passports - well no wonder they do it then No, they cannot leave without their passports. 3diamonds gave the maid's passport back to Immigration and it is then assumed that she went back to the Philippines with her passport. edited by mumto2 on 26/08/2014

My son has been doing Abacus maths for more than a year now.but i don't see any improvement in him.I dont know if its the right thing or not.Can anyone recommend anyplace where they teach kumon maths.I do a lot of math practice with him by taking out print outs and work books but its not very helpful. My children do Kumon through correspondence as there is no Kumon centre in Dubai. We do ours with Kumon Bahrain.
