I have actually just found out that it is not a crown but a 'cap' which to me is something different although I am told that is what they call them all now. So no root canal required its just to protect the tooth as most of it is filling but doesn't require a root canal. When I said oh yes you mean a cap not a crown the lady said well its the same thing. So the price is the same. Is it the same? Am I behind the times here? hi seasand, yes cap and crown are the same ('A crown is a porcelain 'cap' that fits over the entire surface of the tooth'). they are really pricey in Dubai. price can be from 2000 to 5000 or even higher depending on the clinic.

Have you checked with K-12 in Knowledge Village ? They are set up like a little school with small classes. They tend to have special needs kids and some ESL kids. Nice environment and fantastic teachers. My DS goes there and we are very happy. hi fjcruiser, my son goes for verbal behavioral therapy as he is diagnosed with global developmental delay. we are looking for a school for him for next school year. can you enlighten me on how to inquire or get information on possibly enrolling him in K12? thanks

hi mybaby2012! i fully understand your feelings. you don't need to be more confused with different opinions from "not so experts" but rather get a second opinion from the best in the field. I have had a first hand great experience from Fetal Medicine and Genetic Center as well as some of my friends whom I referred contrary to ScottishGal4's own experience. They have 2 Specialists and depending on your preference (male or lady Physician). Either of them will give you the best care and will give you the full information that you need. As mentioned, it is still your own decision. Best of luck and keep us updated.

hi florida girl, the *** of the baby can be seen (the position is allowing) at 15 weeks. as mentioned by CJGH, Dr. Pour Mirza knows his craft and such a perfectionist Specialist would not want to have any mistake. If he says 80%, then it;s 80%! However, we should not ignore the 20% because as mentioned in this thread, at 12 weeks, both *** organs of the fetus would look almost similar. Goodluck and update us

He got Hexavalent (DTap, Hib, Hep B, IPV) and pneumococcal vaccine. Just phoned another clinic they can't help me need to go in and see a Dr! Where are you staying? My baby goes to French Isis DHCC and when you call them, they can be very helpful 044298450. With regards to having the 2 months vaccine altogether, I don't remember they told me this when my baby was 2 months old. anyhow, better call the clinic and get an advise from the experts.

Pingu, these might help you. Rotarix Infants 6 to 24 weeks of age PO 2 doses of 1 mL. Administer the first dose beginning at 6 weeks of age. The interval between the first and second dose should be at least 4 weeks. The 2-dose series should be completed by 24 weeks of age. RotaTeq Infants 6 to 32 weeks of age PO Three 2 mL doses administered at 4- to 10-week intervals starting at 6 to 12 weeks of age. Third dose should not be given after 32 weeks of age.

Congratulations on your pregnancy mybaby201. :) I think many of the OB's send women to the FMC because they really are the best in the field in Dubai. When I say "best", in my personal experience they are brilliant medically speaking. Dr Mirza however, in my experience, has the personality of a wet mop crossed with a mack truck. He's blunt to the point of rudeness...but he knows his stuff and is extremely thorough. I second you green-ish...This was also my observation of Dr. Pour Mirza, so blunt and straightforward, (it should be realized that preggies are more sensitive than usual) and you are also right, he is very knowledgeable and as I have researched, this is the result of extensive medical studies, training and experience in Germany.

Just wanted to add that I have been to both FMC and N9ne - first FMC for my 20 week scan and something was found - I felt that the appointment at FMC was rushed and half way through it seemed like the Dr had given up (carrying twins - he had difficulty viewing the second twin) I didnt like the way the situation of giving bad news was done at FMC - we were just told that something had been found and to come back in 3 weeks - no explanation on what it was or how it could affect my babies so we got a second opinion from N9ne - Dr George is great, if you are worried about anything at all he takes the time to discuss your worries and concerns. We didnt tell him that he was our second opinion as we didnt want to cloud his judgement. I know that FMC has been spoken about on EW before and some posters have found the Dr there skilled - IMHO the only thing that FMC were good at was taking photos of my babies. Shinynewpony, i really find your experience a lot opposite with my and my friend's experience. I can only say good things... My friend has come from the US last year carrying triplets. As she was having multiple pregnancy, she was of course, high risk (also age-wise). She was so anxious and reluctant to make a mistake of going to any OBS. I referred her to Fetal Medicine Center and had her first visit with them in February 2011. After just 1 visit, she was convinced to continue with them until delivery. She had rigorous visits and she and her babies (inside the tummy) were well taken care off. Now, she has 3 cute little babies and cannot thank Fetal Medicine Center and me (ehem! for referring her) enough. By the way, how are your twins now? mybaby2012, we may have different experiences with different clinics or doctors but all we want is the best to our babies and ourselves...I can only wish you all the best.

Hello..i am very happy to join your blog, very helpful ! I am 9 weeks pregnant and new in Dubai. So excited for my first baby , but same time, anxious :(.. My Gyn. in the city hospital recommended me to do a scan at my 12 weeks at Fetal medicine center , which is located before the city hospital. She told me it aims to check some abnormalities as down syndrome babies..is it a normal scan that every pregnant will do it? anyone have previous experience at FETAL MEDICINE CENTER ? any recommendations? what to expect? thanksss all...need your help.. first of all congratulations on your "good news"! We are not experts here but all we can do is to give you bit of info that we know. NT scan is just an ultrasound on the tummy to mainly measure the back of the neck of the baby which is called nuchal translucency and also the dr. will measure your baby. Did ur Obs refer you to do the blood test at the same time? I am asking because according to my experience, there is also a blood test to complete the assessment. but as what was mentioned, it is a risk assessment of how likely or unlikely that your baby has chromosomal abnormalities... with regards to the experience in Fetal Medicine Center, yeah, I was referred there. It was quite difficult to get an appointment, so, make sure you book ahead of time, you don't want to lose time. It was a great experience though cause I got my full results in just one sitting (but a long one, expect to be there for more than an hour!). I have seen both the Doctors there cause I came back for the following scans. Both are straightforward. The result of the NT scan was well explained. :):)

I am sure it has already been answered many times but somehow didn't find the answer online...I have a 3 y.o. son for which I have to renew the Visa. Will he need to do a blood test? For the ID, does he needs to have the finger prints scanned? I also need to do the ID card for his sister (1 y.o), does she needs to have the finger prints scanned? Thanks for your help! For kids renewing visa, no medical tests is required until the age of 12, ditto with UAE ID card, no fingerprinting or even taking photo in EIDA offices. Just bring his passport with renewed visa in one of the typing centers (check EIDA website for legit ones) and a passport photograph (they will scan it), pay the fees and that's it...wait until you get an SMS to claim the ID

Ladies Is their a minimum number of weeks you have to be before you can book in/ register with a maternity clinic or hospital? TIA :) I think six weeks you may proceed to an OBS for viability scan, then 8 weeks and from then you may register.

Thanks so much ladies. I have had a couple of scans so I can handle that. I was a little worried about the blood test - wasnt sure if it was a simple blood test that they take from my arm or if they try to take blood from the actual baby - that must be another test. Thanks so much - that really puts my mind at rest! Happy to know that you are relaxed now upon getting the information from the ladies. Just to reassure you, don't get scared...NT scan is just an ultrasound scan on the tummy to measure your baby. With regards to the blood test, the blood is taken from your arm, processed and the results are combined with the ultrasound scan results and presto...you get the risk assessment full report. If you are a bit scared with the blood test...for sure the clinic where you're going to has someone who is great in handling this...don't hesitate to request. good luck and keep us posted.

Hi ladies, Can you please tell me the best/cheapest way to get to Manilla? I checked out Etihad but cheapest for July is AED3400 - is this normal? I also looked at Cathy but the flight layover in HK coming back is terrible - 16 hours! Any tips/advice is appreciated. TIA air tickets to manila can really be so costly. gulf air will be the cheapest as far as i know with a short stop over in bahrain. sometimes malaysia and cathay do have offers but as you said, you have to really check as most of the time, the lay over is too long. you may also check clear trip website.

I recommend tha you go to Smiline in Fairmont Hotel Shk Zayed Rd. You do want a very calm, gentle, excellent Dentist to handle such "scary" situation (I call it scary with all the tools they use :)), don't you? Contact them at 043315991 and book an appointment with Dr. Sherri. She is great and pretty. You would love to stare at her while she does her work, it's relaxing, I used to see her in her previous clinic...;) Yikes.... :\: captainjacky, just trying to say how this works on me. i feel lady dentists are calmer...;) and u are right, quite embarassing to stare at a goodlooking male dentist;) might as well close both eyes edited by myca1215 on 02/05/2012

Hi Divsa86. Are you pregnant now? Most of Insurance companies have waiting period (1 year) however, if the Insurance coverage is a high premium one, you may be covered. Hospitals in Dubai are having antenatal packages, however, in my opinion, it's better that you are already sure you are on your way (pregnant) to take the package. You may check with The City Hospital, Welcare Hospital, The Dubai mall Medical Center or American Hospital.

Nuchal Translucency Scan is performed by NOT only experienced but "licensed" sonographers. If the scan is performed by a sonographer like in other clinics and hospitals, the results are then forwarded to the Specialist for the final "interpretation" or consultation. Having it done by a Specialist him/herself, I think, is better.

Hi there! I feel for you Mols...When we are pregnant, we worry a lot and we want only the best. It's always a matter of choice, your own choice but considering other suggestions might also help. Dr. Pour Mirza is a Fetal Medicine Specialist whose concentration is on fetomaternal medicine. I have done all my specialised scans in his center and I think he is superb. Moreover, since NT scan is combined with a blood test, you don't need to wait for the blood results to come after few days, they will do everything for you in just one visit... However, as I mentioned, it is still your decision...
