Would you mind telling us which pub this was? Even area would be useful to know. edited by N0rdique on 07/04/2014 edited by N0rdique on 07/04/2014 Approx 2-3 months ago from the Boston bar (police to through spells of doing checks around al bada'a area) Last weekend was walking back from Loca, he got stopped on Al Wasl Road. Police were very friendly after he'd shown his emirates ID & booze licence. HTH Thanks for the information. :-) edited by N0rdique on 07/04/2014 <em>edited by N0rdique on 07/04/2014</em>

My fiancé got so drunk last night from a pub with his mates and acted stupid when he came home. He was singing, telling me how much he loves me, and acting weird, the usual drunk in short! One point, I gave him water to drink and I was calling him ‘my little boy’ because it felt like I was nursing a kid. Then he spat the water on my face playing, laughing and acting like a kid. I didn’t react and actually I sweetly put him to bed after. This morning, I told him what he did and he felt really embarrassed. My question is, shall I let it pass, forget and just understand that things like this normally happen especially bec he was drunk or shall I talk to him properly and say what? I am not sure how to handle such situation as I am sure he doesn’t mean to do that to me? Am I supposed to get angry and feel disrespected? If you were in my situation, what will you do? Shall I just forget? Please advise. Thanks How DO you feel about it? Other ladies will feel differently to you? I personally would just laugh it off but also remind him to make sure he has his booze license with him. Police have stopped DH twice now returning from the pub. No issue's as he had license and ID. I wouldn't give him grief if there is no need to, what's the point in making him feel worse than he already does? Good luck :) Would you mind telling us which pub this was? Even area would be useful to know. edited by N0rdique on 07/04/2014 <em>edited by N0rdique on 07/04/2014</em>

Can anyone explain how I can stay on line on skype but not show I am away. In an older version on skype one could be online, away or off line but does not appear to be the case in the version I have now. Can anyone guide me please. Thank you in advance. Go to Tools - Options - General Settings - Show me as Away when I've been inactive for --- minutes. Is that what you're looking for?

Hi all, We've been rolling out the changes - some of you may be experiencing different versions due to your browser compatibility. If you are using IE and cannot see the changes, try clicking the broken compatibility button on the far right of of your address bar. We will continue to monitor how the changes are working. Thanks for your patience whilst we make these improvements. Warm regards EW Admin The thumbs up/down doesn't work properly on Firefox either. I have the latest version. It's showing the count on the thumbs after clicking on it but when revisiting the thread the count is back to zero.

I got ours done by Churchill and they made a great job. They come to your place and clean them. I also had them clean some of the curtains at the same time as they have a minimum call out fee. http://churchill-gulf.com/carpets.asp How much did you pay? I only have one rug ( 135cm X 200cm) so I'm wondering if it's worth it to have a company coming around to clean it.

Dolleymadison, Sakhifa and Nordique time to get off your high horses. Referring to people with opinions other than yours as regressive and uneducated while you dont know the person is a typical ew hero attitude very prevalent on this forum. There is nothing regressive about my post. First of all no I did not come to the region to find a man. I was offered a job knowing and agreeing to ALL rules and policies. I have seen many girls come here thinking they will live that glamorous life, find a man with money only to leave bitter and disappointed. When you want to work in a company you accept their policies or if you don't agree say no thanks. Nothing regressive or uneducated about it. It's common sense. The fact that all of you have ignored what I mentioned about says a lot about you being very occupied with someone else's back yard. Nobody asks you to go and work for QA do they? It's everyone's free choice to accept it or not. I am afraid your last para Marroosh comes over as very regressive. So there should be companies working unethically and abusing their staff, but that's OK, because no one forces anyone to work there? This is why attitudes don't change. Do you honestly think that either of those Swedish girls in the article would have gone to work for QA had they known of the realities of working there? The same goes for all the labourers whose passports are confiscated and who end up jumping off half constructed buildings because they can't take it anymore, or those Asians who run across SZR because then at least their family can get some blood money. If something is morally and ethically wrong, why must we turn a blind eye? would you accept this treatment if you had signed a contract overseas and then were suddenly thrust into a working situation where your every move was monitored and you could get fired and deported at any moment with no recourse?? What if heaven forbid a man rapes you and you get sent to prison yet somehow it's your fault - would you just accept that's the way it is here? Of course not! And I must say it is you on your high horse - you cover and take your religion seriously but just because some of us don't it means we are looking to get knocked up and marry the first guy we meet! I really dont know why thia has anything to do with my religion? I have been in this region for 8 years of which only half as a muslim, so please leave that out of the discussion. I have worked in the hospitality industry for 2 years in the region and have seen the way many female cabin crew behave. But again, if you know the rules and go ahead than thats your choice. Marroosh, I'm afraid I have to agree with TDB, it's you who needs to come off your high horse and your last post emphasises it (again). When I joined this forum 2 years ago I loved your posts. They were kind, educational and never judgemental. Somehow over the last year I've seen your posts change. More often then not they are judgemental (many if us are, nothing wrongwith that as long as you aknowledge it yourself) and soon as someone disagrees with you you seem to always want to have the last word. Human rights are an important topic, not just in the region but all over the world, and just because you sign up to something doesn't mean you can't criticise it or change your mind about it. The issue is with the ladies I addressed is that they can't accept that someone has a different opinion and start calling people uneducated or regressive. And I find this something that happens a lot on this forum. If you dont agree you must be uneducated. And I find that very arrogant, and thats why I said that. Also, it has nothing to do with wanting the last word, we are all free to disagree but that can be done in a normal way. In the years I have seen things that I believe are part of the reasons companies come with very strict regulations. And again, my mention of the same issues in western countries are ignored because everyone is so busy on focussing on 1 atricle. I have worked in a company with similar policies and I chose to go and work. We are not in our own countries where we can do as we like. But to be honest I wonder how much of what is talked about is company police ( talking to a security guard). I actually don't believe that. I have handed in my passport in my first job in Bahrain, when I moved to the next that was no longer allowed by law so when they tried to put it in my contract I put my foot down. So these things are changing, but as an airline QA airway has in my opinion the right to have certain stipulations which they have very openly talked about. I also know a girl who works for QA and has no issues at all. I'm sorry but I do feel offended by some of your comments. I've not called anybody neither uneducated nor regressive. You're very selective in which bits you pick. Please, please read more about the "dark side" of QA. I give up as apparently I "can't disagree in a normal way". I'm proud of being born in Europe and with freedom of choice in all aspects...

Start off with showing her around and fully explain what you need doing. If you just assume she knows how you want things done you might not get the result you want. This goes for any job. People aren't mind readers. Different people have different expectations. One a room is done you can just go in and fetch something from that room to give it a quick glance. I would leave the "full inspection" until she's gone and if you found anything you didn't like you can then next time go through it.

I agree with Heyjude. Offer her drinks. If you have a water fountain, ask her to just get water whenever she wants to. If you make coffee, offer her a cup too. I would also let he know that she can use the toilet. Yes, I know it sounds silly but I've heard that some madams actually don't let maids use the toilet. The treatment that some maids get is just shocking.

We can talk about it forever, but at the end of the day a company has set rules, people know about it, and sign the contract. If a company spends a lot of money to bring people on board just to come over and get knocked up within the year, a company can say we don't want that. First of all a woman shouldn't be working as a cabin crew while pregnant, second, if the company already employs ground staff, why should they pay more people to do the same job just for the sake of keeping them? Rules don't just get made up for no reason. Let's face it many women come here to find a man. And really how many of the staff are poor girls who have nowhere else to work? So many airlines have open recruitment days in EU countries. We all have strong feelings and opinions about human rights here in the region, but in my country women still get fired/rejected on jobs for being covered, women also don't get their contracts renewed when pregnant and so on. And get away with it. Whether we agree with it or not, it is QA's policy, whoever doesn't like it doesn't have to start working for them. At least they are open about their policies. edited by Marroosh on 10/03/2014 [i'> "just to come over and get knocked up within the year"[/i'> What a degrading comment. Surely most women don't get "knocked up" on purpose. [i'>"Let's face it many women come here to find a man"[/i'> Did you do that too? While employment law and protection might still not be perfect in Europe, it has gone a long way. In my opinion you get a more human treatment by employers in Europe and there are comprehensive laws protecting workers. Which employer in Europe would fully control employees outside working hours? Did you actually read the Expressen article? Let's hope that you don't get into any disputes with your employer here as I guess there would not be much sympathy. You signed the contract, right...

The current system clearly doesn't work. Why should tenants have to suffer when they have already paid their rent, most likely in one cheque or if a bit lucky up to four cheques? There should be a new system in place to punish non-paying landlords instead. And it should be up to the letting agent to ensure that the landlords have paid up before they are allowed to rent out an apartment. What function do these letting agencies really have in this country?? They are very quick to cash in their 5% off the tenants but what do they actually do for that money? I've heard that some of them even try to con out 10% out of Dubai newbies who are confused about the laws and regulations here. It's disgusting!

Just had to share this little gem - I used Mangrove Cleaning Services for moving out of my AR villa a few days ago. They utilise a steam cleaner which is more hygienic than mops! The villa looked brand new when they had finished - particularly the floors, kitchen & bathrooms as the grout between the tiles was thoroughly cleaned! I'm now going to book them to regularly clean my new villa. They were negotiable on price which helps! Www.mangroveservices.net or call Dyna 055 4961893 I just called them and they only provide move in/move out cleaning service (not weekly cleaning). I found them quite expensive too. 1050 DHS for a 2 bed room apartment...

The new permitted rent rises of 15-20 percent will most likely have many ex-pats leaving this year. It's not just a matter of affordability but also how much money you want to spend on rent. I've also noticed that the cost of food have gone up.

Think about how clearly you would be actioning in that kind of situation. OP might not have any close friends here or friends she could trust here in Dubai and is using this forum as a last resort. Try to imagine how you would feel in a similar situation. Do you really think that you're that special and that you will never, ever be in a situation where your husband will be tempted/persuaded away from you?? OP- I wish you all the strength in the world and hopefully you'll get through all this. The so called teacher- shame on you. Don't you know that you're nothing more than a one night stand? I had a cleaner coming once a week for three hours. My cleaner managed to clean a very large two bed room apartment (the second bedroom is a guest room and does not need much attention) and a balcony within three hours. I was very happy with the outcome and she required minimal supervising. Since the cleaning company went bust a few weeks ago I have not got around to arrange a new cleaner and let me tell you- it is hard work! It is taking me a lot longer than three hours and I'm sweating and doing my back in. My appreciation for cleaners and their hard work is even higher now when I don't have one. I always tip the cleaner (a proper tip). Do you know how much they get paid by the agencies? My cleaner always did a good job. I was slightly nervous about having a cleaner coming around after all the horror stories I read and heard here. I think if you treat staff/people with respect they will treat you with respect too and do a good job. <em>edited by N0rdique on 17/11/2013</em>

Well written, Madge_Gustard! Most of us are here short term whether we like it or not. The landlords wouldn't get away with their games if all of us stood up to them. The current laws are not perfect but at least they give some sort of protection to tenants. It would be great if all tenants were fully informed of their rights and obligations. The salaries are certainly not going up so why should the rents rise at the current rate?

It's up to the companies to hire staff with the relevant qualifications as well as look after their training. A lot of companies here in Dubai are clearly not willing to pay for qualified staff. I could not care less if shop assistants speak Arabic or not. The main thing is that they speak English (sadly a lot of them speak very basic English) seeing as it is "the second language" here and the majority speaks it. You get what you pay for...

Yes, somebody at RERA has been eager beaver to update the rental increase calculator! Our contract was up for renewal 01/09 and we luckily could renew with the same terms. The rental calculator did not show any increase then. Now if I check with 01/10 or 01/11 as the date on the calculator I get this: [b'>rent is 26% to 35% less than the average similar rent in the area. So you are entitled to a maximum increase of 5% ( 6500 AED per year)[/b'> If it continues like this- who will actually pay these crazy rents?? I don't think we will. We have sacrificed a lot to live here and to have to pay even more for the "privilege" would be ridiculous.

May the innocent victims rest in peace.... Whatever your thoughts about the event surrounding 9/11, Singarosa, please don't forget the innocent victims that died that day. 2,977 innocent people who were murdered. That's thousands and thousands of people who lost a loved one who had simply gotten on an airplane or gone to work that day. I know a woman in her 30s who is a widower as a result of that day. She never spoke of it. Moved halfway across the country and never uttered a word to anyone, even friends. My friends, her coworkers, started putting 2 and 2 together. I am glad they publish these articles. It reminds me that we are not as safe as we think in the UAE. BTW - there is far more violent crime here than people are led to believe. I'm glad they publish those type of articles too. I also believe that there is more crime here. Everything does not get reported. Due to the upcoming Expo I think the press will start leaning more to false and fake positive reporting which is not good for any of us. For those that can only live with their head in the happy cloud- don't read the newspapers then! I rather know what's happening. There are plenty of fluffy things to read for those who can only handle happy and positive things...

When you have a bad cough it seems to get worse on a flight. Codeine cough syrup is the best. OTC medicine is pretty much useless.Just bring it on on the flight and dump it in the bin before getting off the plane as planned. Just be careful and follow the recommended dosage so that you don't get high. As you've had it for three weeks now it's probably not at a contagious stage any longer. Have a safe flight. :-)

Frankfurt security can be quite an*l. I have not even tried to bring duty free on a stopover there. Perhaps buy your duty free for UK in FFT and the champers here in Dubai on your return. Twice I've had my under-wired bra setting off the metal detectors. Not a pleasant experience as they then tap you down thoroughly in front of everybody. Actually scrap buying in FFT on the way to UK. Can't buy duty free flying from one EU destination to another! <em>edited by N0rdique on 03/08/2013</em>

It depends what you're after. After living in Dubai it will feel and look very dirty and going back in time many years. It also depends on where you are from if you can get a visa easily or not. Even visa on arrival can be a total pain. Due to easy visas the majority of the tourist crowd nowadays is Russian. It's not that relaxing being on the beach as you will get harassed by tat sellers walking up and down and pretending they never heard you say no the first time. Traffic is quite mad on narrow roads and there are far too many scooters and bikes. There's not much left of the traditional hippie, happy go lucky. Crime has gone up and food standards have gone down. The lack of proper air-conditioning is a bit difficult to get used to too as well as daily power cuts. After the last trip I was so happy to back in Dubai and have a proper shower and proper A/C. Sorry for being a bit negative but that's how I feel about Goa now. It used to be better.

I don't normally comment on these type of threads but I felt that I need to say something. Feefmick- I'm sorry to hear about the situation you're in but only you can make the decisions that are right for you. It's good to get some advise but the tone on some posts is just too dictating and speculating. Nobody on this forum fully knows the whole story and to dish out orders on what you "HAVE to do" is just borderline wannabe Life Coaching, perhaps bored with their own lives. I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide to do.

Are you talking about Ethihad vouchers you get in some shops for free? We have some that we might not use but I wouldn't sell them.
