Yes, you can get cerazette over the counter. I've got them in pharmacies in both Dubai Mall and MOE. It was very cheap too- only 18DHS per pack.

Buy Gulf News on Saturday. The property supplement could give you an idea of prices (well, at least asking prices...) edited by N0rdique on 03/02/2013

To save on the outward taxi journey- get the metro to Emirates and a taxi from there is only about 12DHS. I've done that a few times.

We used Pickfords and my husband's residency visa was not ready when the container arrived. I think he got a letter from his employer that the visa was under process and the boxes were delivered to us without anything else.

We need to buy a king koil mattress but I cant figure out where the stores are located. Can anybody please help? Are there any other good mattress stores with a sale going on? Thanks. We bought one in a shop on SZR. I can't remember the name of the shop now and the exact location but it's about halfway to Oasis from metro station Noor Islamic bank. Shops nearby are Casanova furniture and Cash converters. Hope that helps.

I'm thinking of opening an account in the same bank as my DH ( Emirates NBD) to make it easy to transfer cash between accounts. Do they have a "housewife account"? Is their internet banking good? Also- is it possible to transfer money to and from an EUR account on the online banking with a reasonable fee? Many thanks in advance :-)

Make sure your next door neighbour isn't a chair scraping, heel wearing nocturnal noisy person! Well, we have an OCD person upstairs. That's the only explanation I can think of for somebody that is dragging furniture and chair scraping like she is. It sounds like she's spring cleaning twice a day and moving (dragging cross the floor) every single piece of furniture they have. I'm kind of used to it now though... Luckily we can't hear a beep from next door.

Well, 75 to 125 DHS per hour do sound expensive (pest control not included) I think 20 hours seem quite excessive for a 3 bedroom. Perhaps somebody else has better knowledge?

How many hours are the quotes for? Sounds very expensive. Cleaning should be around 35-50 DHS per hour depending on area.

Vildadalen- This is not a cheap country to live in and as an ex-pat you have to pay for everything (education, healthcare etc) If you're lucky the employer might pay for some of it- health insurance, accommodation etc. Tax free salary might sound great but you do then not get what you would get in the likes of Sweden so that would all have to be taken into the calculations. I would recommend to do as much research as possible before committing yourselves. The system over here is different to what Europeans would be used to. Rent is payable in advance, usually one year or if you're lucky- quarterly. Rents are high and if you rent furnished you pay a lot more for the quite often landlord's ghastly taste. Education is expensive and you might need to spend a considerable time commuting to and from schools. I don't want to put you off in any way, just advise you to carefully check out every aspect. The weather is great though. It's so nice to not have to put up with snow and minus degrees but +47C or so in the summer can be quite extreme too... :-)

You can find details of your marriage certificate here. You can search for your details and get the document reference number. https://aivitals.co.clark.nv.us/WebPIInternet/ You can order a new marriage certificate here: http://nvsos.gov/index.aspx?page=124 If you need an attested one for UAE it might be easier to use a company that will do all the running. http://www.authxperts.com/legalization_faqs.html I think it cost a couple of hundred dollars but it saves a lot of hassle and time. They also use Fedex so you get the document securely delivered to your home address directly. Best of luck!

I just wish they would finish off what they've started first... Hopefully the tram system will be good and on schedule. It would be great with proper pavements, safe pedestrian crossings and perhaps opening up the rest of the mono rail stations on the Palm... The 2030 projects sound too far away. We'll probably be long gone by then!

It's been cold in our apartment too the last couple of weeks (different block than yours). I swear it's cold air coming from the air vents (not the a/c- that's been switched off since October...) It's 19.5C indoors which my DH says is like in Europe but I'm freezing! It wouldn't surprise me if the same air vents are actually letting in hot air then when the temperature is going up outside. I'm not looking forward to the a/c bills in the summer so I will try to manage this cold air with putting more clothes on. DH has suggested a heater a few times when I have complained... And, yes, my nose is cold too and I don't like it! edited by N0rdique on 17/01/2013

Thanks, Daza. I think my issue is muscle tension so I will need to do exercises and massage (with heat treatment) to sort it. But I might have to try Osteopathy if that doesn't help. I have only tired yoga once so I would need an instructor to make sure I do the right movements so that I don't make things worse. Only three sessions sounds promising though. Is it expensive?

so you do a hugggeeee pooo in the morning ? Sorry, but would that not be a bucketful of runny stuff? I'm only wondering here as I haven't tried it but I can only imagine that it would make the thing come out too soon before the stomach has fully processed it? I do try to eat healthy instead.

How about one round with ecocleaner and only use the mop & bucket once per room and then wash the mop head and then a second round with hot water to rinse and remove the last bit of dirt.Perhaps your helper is using the same mop/water throughout the house and just moving the dirt around? (I'm not saying that your house is dirty!) Walking around with shoes on indoors is most likely also contributing.

I have friends coming over next week and they are planning to go there. Does anybody have any good advise on how to get there? We have no car and my friends are thinking of taking the bus or hiring a motorcycle. I'm inclined to tell them that motorcycle idea is not that safe... What's the easiest way to get there? Is there a bus that goes straight from Dubai to Ferrari world? Many thanks in advance!

We were laughing about that last night. Ok, yes taxis as cheap but I would not rank a lot of them highly in regards to driving skills, location knowledge and manners. I reported one over a month ago as I was in a hurry somewhere and had problems getting a taxi. When I finally managed to stop an empty one he refused and said he will only drive to the airport. I was fuming as I was running late and as per RTA the drivers can't pick and chose what journeys they take. I still haven't heard back so I guess my complaint was binned... In regards to shopping I love Paris! So many small, independent little quirky shops with owners/staff taking pride in their job. It's so nice wandering up and down streets there and find all sorts of shops. So many are immaculate looking and the goods are nicely laid out and you can find original things. I take Paris any day over Mall shopping... :-)

Thanks Sakhifa! That was very helpful. :-) I thought I had bookmarked some posts about cleaners but they are not in my bookmarks... I vaguely remember that there were some other eco cleaners that were recommended a few months ago. When we moved to this apartment the managing agent sent around a company called Busy bees but I was not impressed with their cleaning methods. They totally soaked the floors (basically flooded them!) and I don't want that again as we now have the place fully furnished and that kind of cleaning would just damage the furniture. They also sprayed Pled ( I think) inside the kitchen cupboards and that smell is still in some of them and seems to be impossible to get rid of.

Yes, it's nippy but I quite like it. It's a joy to go out on the balcony in the mornings and feel the breeze. It's also a good time to let fresh air in. I have all balcony doors open in the morning. It still gets up to decent temperature during the day. Just think about the minus degrees in Europe... :-)

Thanks very much for the tangleteezer link. I googled it too and apparently Boots has it (well in the UK at least). I think part of my problem is the brush I'm using. I used to have a good one but I lost it somewhere. I'll need to look into Moroccanoil. I'm hoping to find it here rather than having it shipped as I've had stuff missing in the post. It's nice to have mani & pedi done and I've had no symptoms of sensitivity or allergy so I think I'll continue with them. Hopefully they use products that have been approved by EU legislations as they appear to be a but stricter with health and safety of products and food.

Ok I'm not proud to admit this but I once had a few too many down at Pai Thai in the Madinat one night - on the walk through the grounds me and my friend came across an abandoned golf buggy and had a fabulous time weaving around all the little paths until security sandwiched us in (coming from front and behind) and gave us a telling off. Sorry but it was hilarious and I would think it highly amusing to find a golf buggy in my driveway! hehehe Thanks for your confession! Made me smile (a lot) :-) Perhaps we should have a "confession thread" where EW's admit to funny but embarrassing things... :-)
