desertrose, even though I'm married to a Jordanian and hop accross to Amman often, I've only done Petra once and will thus rely on what little I remember from that trip! My son was two at that time and threw up several times on that journey so you might want to keep lots of extra clothes for your little one in case your child gets car sick. There are two routes of getting there - one is the highway and the other is the outer banks of the Dead Sea. We took the latter and thus it also took longer and was perhaps a bumpier road. Keep your passports on your since you have to pass through a few check-points. We got to Petra quite late...it closes at 5pm or so....and even though they let us in, no one told us that it'll get dark and on the walk back (thru the caves) it was pitch dark and we had only our cell phone lights to guide us through. Once inside, it'll take you no more than two hours I guess to do the walk and see everything but the trick is to get there early and leave the city in time. We didn't spend the night there so can't help with that but I think you could just do a day trip if you wanted. You would enjoy spending a day or two at the Dead Sea so perhaps you'd like to look into that. Petra is absolutely stunning and very enchanting to say the least but you can't take the baby in a stroller since its all rocks and stones so one of you will have to carry the little one. Enjoy your trip!

WaxMuch - I've been to BiCE but not the one in DUbai...nevertheless loved the food!! Do they have an outdoor terrace? Think it would be nice to dine el fresco. simpleasabc - Do you know which ones stay open for lunch? We've been away from Dubai for four years and everything's changed so much!! Would like to opt for places tried and tested by you all. I have always loved the Onle & Only but have only always been for brunch....anything else other than the Beach Grill?

Cousin and her husband are arriving tomorrow around noon and then have to be at the Madinat at 4pm for Art Dubai. We would like to take them some place nice for lunch but also some place which would be convenient given their schedule. They are both really into good food so need some nice suggestions please:)

We stayed at The Andaman on Datai Bay. The beach is stunning and the hotel is simply fantastic in every sense. Its a bit far out but for one week, we never had the need to leave the Datai Bay and on the last day when we did drive around the city, it was obvious that we were staying in the most beautiful place on the island! The Andaman and the Datai are two hotels next to each other and you can share facilities. The service is impeccable, they are amazing wit kids and the food is just out of this world!Enjoy your holiday:)

LA Star - Think we'll be following in your footsteps soon since we have an appointment coming up with Dr. Braithwaite and then hope to deliver at AH. Are you anywhere near the Meadows vicinity? A chat in person would be a lovely idea.

Hi Barbara - Congratulations!! So happy to hear that everything went well for you and the baby:) How did you find the hospital facilities and staff responsiveness? Did you have an epidural and did it go well? Its my second as well and I'm hoping it'll be as smooth as the first one. We're hoping to start with Dr. Brathwaite soon and the few reviews I've read so far, all speak positively about her. What part of town do you live in.....a major concern seems to be the distance in our case and I am definitely a wee bit nervous about that.

Freckle - Do you feel like the AH is too far away from us and is this stressing you out? If you don't mind, I would love to have a chat with you about this....my email is nadiakhan-ayoub at hotmail dot com and would really appreciate if you could email me and then I can send you my number or you can send yours. Am glad to hear positive reinforcement re Dr. Braithwaite...makes a huge difference when you have real time experiences to go by. Any recommendations for the epidural ladies?

I have an appointment with Dr. Braithwaite in another two weeks and they know when I'm due so I guess its not too late to register. I have not heard anything good or bad about the doctor but am hoping that the hospital will be better than the only other one I have seen out here. First baby came out rather smooth so hoping that all will go well this time as well....also hoping to do everything else at the meadows clinic and just go for the last few weekly check-ups to the AH. Have no idea if people have good/bad experiences with their epidurals there....anyone know anything about that? Hubby's just too busy travelling for work and wants me to just decide on where I want to give birth and choose a doc.....my hormones are not finding this very lovey dovey to say the least!

I know that we should ideally pick something close by but we're in the Meadows to begin with so nothing is really next door and my visit to Medcare just stressed me out so much.....other than that, everything seems to be far off. Very upset at this point....

We stayed there last year and the year before that and the place is lovely. We once booked the royal suite and then the second time we have a large room in the new and upgraded section. I would not advise you to stay in the old block. Both rooms were practically on the beach and we loved the fact that we were so close to it and could hear the waves lapping at night. Last year, we used their babysitter for two weeks running and she was a brilliant girl called Rupnama and my son just loved her. The resort has a lovely private beach and tons of stuff to do without it being very crowded. We also enjoyed lying in the hotel gardens, under the palm trees and having a massage or a pedicure at very nominal prices. There is a laundry right behind the hotel which takes in clothes by the kilo (very useful with small kids) and they bring everything back to the hotel the next day. we booked several tours thru the hotel and were never disappointed. It is quite easy to go to town and now the Kata town itself is quite lively. Their are some gorgeous dining places very close to the hotel....Mom Tri's Kitchen, The Boathouse are definitely some of our favourites. We're not really big on going into Phuket Town and spent most of our time at the hotel beach or on day long excursions but for sure we were not disappointed with the hotel in any way. Hope you have a lovely holiday!

Hello everyone! We just moved to Dubai and am 24wks pregnant with my second boy...the first being 3.4yrs now. We're in the Meadows and if anyone's in the vicinity, we'd love for you to come by for a playdate or just 'mommy time'. Older one doesn't start nursery till April 11th so we're trying to fill the calendar with lots of play until then! Hope all pregnancies are going well and mommies are glowing:)

terf - I would very politely ask for the 'madame's' number saying that I needed to call her for something....no need to share your intentions. As a mom of a three year old, I would definitely want to be told as to what my maid is doing behind my back and would appreciate if someone was thoughtful enough to do so.

We just moved from Doha to Dubai and used a company called Writers Relocation which were fantastic at both ends. We didn't even bother getting insurance on our 40ft container and everything came out without a scratch. It took exactly six days for our stuff to reach Dubai - we did pay 10,000Dhs as port storage charges though whilst we lived in a hotel for six weeks but it actually worked out cheaper than the rent we pay now.

Looking for a nice place for my three year old but it seems like Raffles and the others in the community are all full. Surely there must be other wonderful nurseries within close proximity of the Meadows??!! Help!

Wow, I am learning so much from you ladies - I had a feeling that we weren't doing this right but miss speed seems to have them in them the dryer even before I can say something. That's it then - today onwards, we're putting stuff out to dry. Perhaps, I'll let her use it for the sheets since she's a bit clumsy and is likely to have them fall off in the garden a couple of times whilst putting them up!

In our case, we can't toss the dryer out as many a times my husband will come back in the evening after a week or two of travelling and has to leave again the next day and his clothes need to be washed, dried and ironed in that time. Having said that, I still feel we can use a lot less of it that we're doing presently.
