Hello to all! I'm so happy to see this thread. We're planning to move to Canada this coming September. We have three children; aged 3,6 and 15. We plan to buy a villa or apartment. Any suggestions are welcome on which area you think is best to settle in with kids. I have friends linving in West/ North Vancouver who highly recommend the area due to it's suberby livable atmosphere but I'm afraid it might be too dull. We love a place with a lively vibe, somewhere with shops, after school activity centers and amenities around ; perhaps similar to what we have here at The walk JBR? Any suggestions are most welcome...

Mushypeas, I wish you would update us completly. We still don't know if you visited Dr. Gary or what change you made before getting your one month of dry nights. This would be so useful for myself and other Moms out there who are still looking for solutions. Many Thanks

Has anyone out there have any expireance with kindermusik? It's in Um Suqeim and I like the website, but as it involves a lot of play- which may be a good thing- I was wondering just how professional is it, and how much did children that attended progress on playing an insrument in the future?

Thanks to everyone for they're great advise. We visited the Kia and Hyundai showroom and decided to go for the 6 cylinder Hyundai Santafe. It's only 2 months since the new model has come out,it looks good and is practical, it's spacious without being too big and it's only 96 K I recommend it to anyone that's looking for a good budget family suv.

Thanks all for your great advise. I prefer first hand because I used some rental cars and I had issuses like getting flat tiers in the middle of a school run with the baby in the car du to expired tiers. So I think a brand new car is much mire practical for us. Aryannwynn, I don't need trunk space on top of the seven seats, just good trunk space when using five seats and the option to use the two extra seats. If I was to choose between Nissan xterra, Hyundai 7 seater or Honda CRV which one do you recommend? Does any one of them sliding doors?

Mushypeas, my son is four and he has the same issue as your boy. He was dry from 2-3 years old and it suddenly started around 9 months ago, I've tried differant things, like not giving him liquids at night, and waking him up. It works for a while and then it starts again. I've been reading this thread and wondering did you try Dr. Gary? Did it work for you?

Thank you. I checked out both websites, but they don't seem to have s party room or anything special for a 1st birthday. Luminous have a supermodel party but it's more for older girls, like 4 or 5 who understand the concept of fixing up hair and makeup. However I will contact them tomorrow to check to see if they have anything special for 1 year olds. In the meantime if anyone else has any suggustions I will be more than happy ..

Purplerain, I think this might be exactly what you want: I'm house hunting myself in the Jumeirah-umsequim area, so after dropping off the boys I drive around and search. Yesterday I came upon a very nice apartment complex, right on the side of jumeirah 2 road, across from the beach. It has cafes and restaurants, very well maintained with gated security. It didn't work for me cause I'm looking for a 3 bedroom snd they said they only have 1 or 2 and they only rent to couples without kids, mostly eldery! So I think it will be just great for your parents. They will be one street away from the beach, cafes right bellow them, and they can even make friends! The 2 bedroom was for 120000. I had a nice chat with the manager, she was friendly and helpful. She ended up giving me her phone number. You can tell her that you got it from Jess. They have other compounds too, so be specific that you're interested in the one for eldery people and go see for yourself. Wish you luck Aveej: 0505028575 04 3429476

Ladies, looks like we've already started a community of Jumeirah compuonders!! We're all looking for the same thing: 1- A nice villa of three rooms in a compound in preferably inJumeirah or some where near Jumeirah 2-A family friendly compound with good security, maintenance and play ground and pool for kids. 3-Budget between 150-170 k Let's keep each other on board with what we find and we might as well end up as neighbors! Good luck to all !

I'm going to bump for this. I'm also looking for a villa in a compound in Jumeirah. Both my boys go to school there so it will be so mich easier to be close. I've also found ot difficult to find anything online. It will be very appreciated if anyone can help us out here with which compounds are the best for a family with three kids. Also any insight on prices will be great. Out budget is up to 170 k so I'm worried if we can find anything in that range.

Hoggypop, as I understand it's very difficult here in Dubai.I also moved here two weeks ago had the same issue as you, I even started a thread on EW, but I got all this advise just to do it myself. http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=187043 Anyway in the end we found someone that used to work for one of our relitaves. Just keep searching and I'm sure you'll come up with something. Also do check out assist. It was a bit too pricy for us at 100 per hour, but it's something to consider. I hope you can find someone. I've been there and I know how difficult and stressful it is. Wish you good luck

Spicy pepper, Good luck on the villa hunting! We also want to move to a villa in Jumeirah, since both my boys go to scool there. We'd prefer a villa in a gated community or a compound villa. My husband works outside the country , so I'm mostly alone with three kids and I like to feel safe. Have you seen anything of the sort and do you have any idea of the prices? Our budget is 150-170

No one seems to recommend either machine. Maybe I should just go for a separate steam cleaner. But I think life with little kids will be much easier when using both as one....

Ok. I we t to LG in dubai mall today and I checked out the steam vaccum. The sales man turned it on and let us try it out. There were two things that I didn't like about it. One was it didn't seem to produce that much steam, compared to a regular steam mop. Second it left the floors wet. If anyone owns a karcher pls let me know if it has the same issues.... With the baby crawling I so hope I can find something good

Dramaqn, thanks for your helpful advise. Gladly we just hired a nice lady for the boys pickup.I'm sure all posts on this thread, advising me to pull the baby out of bed and take the boys myself were intended with our best interest, but it just dosn't work for our family. We're so happy to find what we were looking for. My advise to everyone: don't give up on what you know is best for you! Thanx to all

Ok everyone, thanks for your thoughts and ideas. After putting lots of thought to it, we've decided to go for the open camera system. I will contact maxcom and ask them to come and install the cameras. I think it's the best thing to do. Zengirl, thank you, your comments helped me most in clearing my mind and deciding what's best for my baby.

I hope it won't come down to that. We're just moving to Dubai this September. It will take me some time to get my driving license,to get to know the streets and feel comfortable driving. Plus my baby is very sleep sensitive, no matter how hard I've tried to change her sleep pattern, she's a night waker and day sleeper and waking her earlier than her schedule makes her cranky for the whole day.So me taking them will be so difficult and is defiantly my last option. I really hope that we will be able to find a transportation service with the help of all you experienced ladies on this forum... edited by Narjess on 26/08/2012

yes, but if the nanny will know about the camera, how will I know how she will treat the baby when she's not watched? What if she neglects the baby when she's taking her down for a stroll or to the supermarket? Or say in kids play?I want to be able to trust her with the baby in such situations... I mean isn't the piont of a nannycam being able to see how tha nanny will treat your child when she thinks she's on her own and not under watch??

Hello everyone. I'm in the process of hiring a Nanny for my nine month old baby. I had a bad experience with another nanny/maid last June.I had hired her from an agency. My husband knew the supervisor for ten years and he recommended and guaranteed her. She appeared to be very fond of my baby and always playing and singing to her and taking care of her with lots of patience when I was around. Then after a while when I trusted her enough, I left the baby in her care for 3 hours in the evening when I went shopping, for 2 nights. My 13 year old son and 10 year old niece were also home. Afterwards my son told me that the baby had cried and screamed for 15 minutes each night. He had even recorded the baby's sound on his iphone because he thought I won't believe him. I confronted the nanny and at first she denied it, then when I had her listen to the recorded crying she apologised.I fired her of course, but like any other Mom out there I'm very sensitive to my children's well being so you can just imagine how awful I felt and how I blamed myself with trusting her in the first place. Anyway this time I'm definatly playing it safe and although I trust this new nanny and she's great with the baby when I'm there but I want to put hidden cameras around the house and check how she will treat the baby when I'm not home. I have no experience with hidden cameras and no idea which shops I can buy it from and how will it work. Where should I hide the cameras for good coverage, etc? Please if you can help me with this it will mean a great deal.
