Thanks for the suggestion - is that immediate even if we bank with different banks? We are planning to go in the eve so banks will be closed but I could ask them to make the transfer earlier in the day. Am i right in thinking there are consequences for the buyer if their cheque bounces?

Hi there I am travelling BA with an 18month old and I have booked him a seat but read on the website he needs a car seat. Just wondered if anyone knew if it is compulsory for him to have a car seat or can he just sit in the normal seat? Also, do BA provide car seats for the plane or do i have to take my own and if i have to take my own is a maxi cosi tobi acceptable? Also, does anyone know if they carry calpol and whole cow's milk on board or do i need to take my own? Have called BA Dubai with my queries but not sure the lady understood what i was asking! TIA

Hi there I have had two children and both were natural delivery without epidural but with pethadine. I (like you) did not want to have an epidural as didn't like the whole idea of the needle and not feeling my legs and when i spoke to my dr she advised me to have an open mind rather than decide i def wanted it or didn't but rather be open to it if I was in a lot of pain and really felt i needed it. I mentally prepared myself by expecting a lot of pain but kind of expecting it is just something I have to go through and knowing it would be over. I think this helped but i also had fairly quick labour and deliverires. My advice would be to just be open to whatever you feel your body needs at the time, i think this will relieve the pressure. I also have friends who had an epidural and they said it was fine, they still felt they could feel their legs and had control. Good luck1 edited by natashab on 29/06/2011

Hi there DD is 3 months old and was on Aptamil (imported one from Choitrams) but she was quite windy and seemed to have a lot of timmy pain. Anyway, had to put her on Cow and Gate as Aptamil was not available and she seemed better, then managed to get some Aptamil and again she is windy etc. Therefpre want to put her back on Cow and Gate but they don't have any stock so really need to get her onto formula that is readily available here. I know it isn't good to chop and change and I also need to give her a couple of weeks to settle but has anyone found their baby to be windy and uncomfortable on Aptamil and if so which formula did you use instead? Recommendation greatly received! (DS was on Aptamil and was fine on it but DD just doesn't seem happy). TIA

Hi there Am trying to plan a hol for Nov and was hoping to get some suggestions. Travelling with DH and two children (21 months and 8 months), want to go somewhere with nice weather, not too far to fly to (6ish hours) and not a long distance from airport to hotel and a nice resort - plan to stay in the resort and relax. Sorry to bother you again but did you get the maid's contract from the indian embassy and then another one from immigration? Looking through the procedures it says that one of the documents needed at DNRD is a salary certificate/labour contract and then we will get a unified contract. I am assuming the Indian embassy contract is their requirement but there is a more official document required by DNRD?

Am tempted to but at the same time really need here and not sure we can risk her being turned away! Do the immigration office do anything with the contract? Or do you also get a contract from them or the labour office? Sorry for so many questions, just keep hearing so many different things!

Thank you - had a look on the consulate website but couldn't find it! Will have another look. Yes, know about the guarontor thing but we are currently trying to find another way around it, the process in itself is a pain but they also want proof of the maid's salary being transferred to India! Seems so ridiculus - do other embassies have the same requirements or just the Indian?

The only thing is she was previously working here as a housemaid so she has a canceled housemaid visa in her passport. Now I wish we has transfered her visa but we got her previous employer to cancel them she went home for her annual holiday and we are applying for the new visa. Should have done more research earlier!

I think they had it ready the next day. If i remember correctly, they had some material for lining in their shop but not the colour i needed. If you definitely need them to get the lining call them to check if they do that - +971 4 422 7376. It is pretty easy to find - as you are driving to Lulu instead of taking a right into the road that leads to lulu, it is on the left and you shoud see it as you drive - think you have to do a u turn and then take the right with the lebenese restaurant on the corner. Good luck,

Thanks Scaralex - would rather avoid doing the Indian Embassy thing if it isn't necessary or breaking any laws - and have already checked with Dubai immigration and it isn't necessary for their process. Can you remember exactly what the indian embassy gave you - did you have to send the embassy document to your maid so that she could leave india without any issues? Just don't want her to be stuck at the airport in India unable to leave the country without a required doc! Don't think there will be an issue at this end.

Hi I had a skirt lined at Mega stitch in Al Barsha (near Lulu) but I got the lining myself from Deepak's in Satwa - went to mega stitch and they told me exactly what type of lining i needed. Also, I was in a rush so was quicker for me to go and get the lining but think they may get it for you if you can wait a bit longer for it to be done.

Thanks homegal. I know that Dubai authorities don't require this but was under the impression that I had to do the Indian consulate bit so that they would release her from India but it probably isn't that well organised!

Hi emmaH Is your baby in any sort of routine in terms of sleeping in the night? I found flying at night easier because my son just sleeps during the flight whereas during the day he needs more entertainment as he is up anyway. I first flew with him when he was about 5months and he was great in the flight but a bit grumpy when we were waiting for our baggage. Good luck

Hi Thompson1 Behaviour is a form of communication so her behaviour may be a result of frustration with learning or it could be that her behaviour is causing the learning issues, it is the whole cause and effect thing, but an Educational Psychologist should be able to help determine the priority need and put strategies in place to see how she responds but depends on the way the psychologist works - some are into testing to determine if there is an issue and others prefer to consider the child in the school environment and use more 'qualatative' evidence. If you post your email address I can send you a number to discuss more if you wish too. edited by natashab on 06/06/2011

I think that is the person filling out the form, so in my case I as the mother was the informant. If anything is completed incorrectly they will tell you at the embassy and you can complete a new form. :-)

Did this recently - just got the passport back last week. Went to British Embassy to get the birth registered and the british birth certificate then all i needed to send for passport was the passport application, british birth certificate, two passport photos and credit card authorisation. If you do it without the british birth certificate, the docs you need to send with the passport application are your and your husband's passports, baby's local birth certificate, parents long birth certificates and marriage certificate - think that was all but not sure if you can send copies or have to send originals. HTH

I am near the greens and could have a look if you aren't too far. Let me know and then if interested I can give you my contact details.

Hi Nic25 You don't have to register the birth at the British Embassy but if you want to you will get a British Birth Certificate. You need to go to the embassy between 8am and 11am with the Arabic and English Birth Certificate, yours and your husbands passports and long birth certificates, your marriage certificate, 1020 aed and the completed birth registration form which can be downloaded from the website: http://ukinuae.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/living-in-uae/how-to-register-birth It will take a week to get the British Birth Certificate (I went this week) and I was told that once you have the British Birth Certificate, this can be sent for the passport application and you don't have to worry about sending others docs for the passport, such as parents long birth certificate, but not sure as I haven't done this bit yet. They have all the info on the website so if you decide not to get the birth registered at the British embassy, the website will list the docs you need ot send for the passport. http://ukingermany.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/passports/

I just got the citi mini jogger which weighed approx 15kg and found a company that would ship it from the uk for approx 100 pounds - in the end my dad was able to bring it but can give you the number of the company I contacted if you are interested.

What kind of church are you looking for. There is a Newfrontiers Church that meets in Dubai if you have heard of them and that is the kind of worship you are used to. If you google newfrontiers, Dubai, you should find some info.

Hi Alimart Someone will bring the pram for me but I checked re shipping and it still would have worked out about 40GBP cheaper to have it shipped. You also need to check the weight of the pram - the citi mini is a side by side and packaged weight is 15kg i think - not sure how much the citi select weighs but think it is a sturdier pram system so may be more and may be worth checking that someone can bring it in their luggage allowance! Might be worth checking if anyone from here can help? Some people have husbands who go on very short trips and don't have luggage and lots of the ladies are very helpful - I have had someone bring something fro me from the US before but guess it can also be a bit risky if it is someone you don't know. Good luck, UK offer much better deals for prams and it is such a pain buying from here!

Can't really remember but think it may have been about 90 AED per head for buffet dinner - think we spoke to the chef of the restaurant so maybe give them a call and see what you can work out? They also have a n area near the swimming pool you can use for private parties I think.
