How much did you pay for adams care / epsco if you don't mind me asking? We have 4 bed villa and were quoted 3300 for jim'll fix it and 4500 for Moltocare which seems steep. However unlike jim they do thorough disinfection apparently and do 'fogging' at the end (covering up all furniture during of course). Jim'll fix it told me they use jiff and dettol...

Call up DAMAN they provide a plan for domestic workers and it's 750dhs per annum, covers hospital emergencies and surgeries up to 150k a year. Can't remember details of the general stuff, but it was good. You still pay a little bit for GP appointments and mess, only a small percentage. We were going to get this cover but we didn't hire the person in the end.

I saw on 38smiles rescue facebook page that two gorgeous puppies have come into their care (Vienna vet clinic). Rather horrifically, they each have had a paw cut off in what looks like abuse but they are under fantastic care now, so 38smiles will soon be looking for loving foster / forever homes for these beautiful souls who deserve a second start in life I know maybe not what OP is looking for (as I think they want someone to take them as a pair as they are siblings) but posting just in case anyone else out there might be able to.

Should be a simple thing but for some reason it isn't. I called al Safa PHC this afternoon which is a government health centre in jumeirah 1 - they said I have to come in with the vaccination book and they may or may not be able to book him in for it.... Will call the diyafah clinic if not. Anyway hopefully we both get it sorted!

My doctor said they do it as if the mantoux test is positive it means they have immunity and therefore BCG is unnecessary. They would generally expect a negative result for unvaccinated children. Where are you doing it if you don't mind me asking? I can't seem to find a GP or hospital that will do it for child above 2 months (we moved from the UK where they didn't do it in our area) Thanks

Got ours from dragon mart too, similar price Was a real pain the backside to install though, ended up having to pay 100dhs to the maintenance guys to add another fixing pane at bottom and seal with gel so watertight etc

I used a girl called Nic, I found her contact through here and she is really good! Not to mention very professional and friendly. Think I paid around 950dhs, she also came to my house (she is based in marina but drove to me). Used micro rings, got it put in around first week December and haven't lost a single extension yet. She charges around 600dhs for maintenance (every 3 months if needed)

Thank you VelmaDoo for your reply, you're right - we got it towed in the end for 100dhs as too dangerous to drive. It was taken to a repair place in Al Quoz, they can't fix it on the spot but hopefully collecting it tomorrow if doesn't need spare parts. It was useless to call up places so if anyone ends up in same predicament and can't wait till following day to tow/fix then do what my husband did which was just drive around Al Quoz workshops behind SZR until you find somewhere open! If these guys turn do a good job and don't rip us off I'll post their contact details on here, you never know who might search for these things!

Hi Nayls, could you tell me what you paid for 2 people please? I paid 295dhs for 2 people, this was for pick up drop offs, safari, and BBQ dinner at a camp with entertainment, henna, camel riding all included. They didn't alter the prices, without entertainer would have been 295 per person

I've got the books this year again - last year I did so many voucher swaps (yes I know strictly not meant to do it, but still...) and also easy to give vouchers I didn't use to people. I wouldn't have felt comfortable sharing an app code with more than one person. I'm also terrible with charging my phone, I live off sub 10% and often struggle with signal, I just personally feel safer with hardcopy vouchers! Another massive pro of the app though that I wish I had is ease of tracking savings, that said I've heard it's not always 100% accurate.

They did say they intended to keep class sizes small (otherwise they would have combined classes to make 24-26) Whether this is sustained is another matter, however suits us well for now. Going from the small ratios at our nursery to big school was a worry for me, but for now they really good individual attention.

That's an awful experience, I would have been disappointed too. I know my son's class won't be totally representative, but out of 13 they have 7 different nationalities. Last term they really made a big deal in celebrating different days - literally every week it seemed like they were celebrating something - diversity day, diwali, national day, international day - my cooking, crafting and fancy dress making was really tested!

My son is FS2 at Safa Community. We're happy there - small class sizes (13 in his, and they have 1 teacher and 1 teaching assistant - they are both brilliant) He has come a long way, can read books with simple sentences really easily whereas he didn't recognise all letters when he started. They do PE twice a week including swimming and he will start the free after school football. I think it's a pretty well rounded school, yes there were a few kinks and hiccups when they first opened but overall I think they do a good job

I know a great guy - also he's through an agency so it's legal. I'm trying to find extra work for him as we're leaving in a few months. He's based in Umm suqeim But has a car so I'm pretty sure he'd be willing to drive to nearby areas. If you're interested post your email address and I'll send you his number

Can't provide feedback yet but I've ordered for the first time - from Jones the Grocer I hope it's good and that 6kg of turkey has enough meat (I'm unsure of meat to bones ratio!) to feed 7 adults 2 children...I always get paranoid that people will go hungry! Will let you know after the 25th

That's a huge expense! I would want to find out what the money would go towards... I don't know how long the trip is, but I would guess and for me these values are generous- £80 a night for nice accomm, £500 for flights, £100 per show...still leaves a lot leftover, even if budget for food... <em>edited by Nayls85 on 07/12/2014</em>

Thanks for your reply In fact she is wanting us to pay 2500 a month (when we had 2000 max in mind as a budget) as she said we wouldn't have to pay sponsorship fees, so actually you've made me realise that if we hired her then we'd be taking on the risk without the financial saving...

Hello We are looking at hiring a live-in house help for first time. I spoke to someone today who sounded really lovely, in her 40s, and past 10years working for a family she loves and are sadly leaving back to US. She was very quick to give me the number of her employer and as we live close, told me I could also drop by. In short she sounds genuine. However - she said she is on husband's visa and so requesting higher salary than normal going rate as we wouldn't have to pay visa cost. And her husband would have to live with her. This is her current arrangement with her employer. I did some googling and found some threads saying it is illegal. Is this true? If it is illegal and carries such a huge fine how are people ok with doing it, and I assume people do? Should I just say no straight up or spend time researching more into the "fine print" and speaking to her current boss in the hope that It can be legal (some threads mentioned a no objection letter from husband?) Thanks for your help...

Mine's up already....and slowly decorating the house with the help of my two young boys, they like helping to make wreaths, decorate candles etc keeps them busy for a little bit each afternoon. I feel like Christmas time goes by so quickly as it is and my in laws are visiting now (as my parents are coming at Christmas..) so I also felt a bit guilty and put the tree and decor up so they could feel a bit like they are sharing Christmas with the grand kids!

You have to set expectations with her - let her know that 1-2 a week you need her to work late but you'll compensate her. I think going rate for babysitting is about 30dhs per hour, so as she is already working for you then I would pay that or slightly less. I know some people with nannies agree beforehand that they will need to babysit 1x a week for eg, this is part of contract at no extra pay, some give extra half day off in lieu, etc

Desert rose Sorry to hear about your leg. My husband and I couldn't find childcare so I sold ours on dubizzle, they got snapped up without us dropping price, I sold them at face value (2x 3 day passes) at 995 each. If you like, you can post your number or email I had 3 or 4 enquirers that contacted me after I sold mine, I can pass your details on. Otherwise I reckon you'll find sellers through dubizzle for face value

Hello It's our first festive period here as a family, which are the nice Christmas markets / events to go to, and any that we shouldn't bother with? Is there a good up to date list of festive events in dubai, in particular interested in markets and things for children... Or am I being overly keen, after all it's still November! Not as bad as UK I suppose when I was seeing trees and decor up in stores late Sept!

I reverse park because some parking lots have narrow roads inbetween the rows and I find it easier to get out of the parking space after. I'm not as bad as a 10 maneuver person, but what extra time I spend reverse parking (20 seconds isn't going to kill anyone!) I save getting out later.

My son is in FS2, he sleeps at 7:30-7:45, wakes up 6:30. Naps on weekends, this seems to be enough for him. I feel your struggle though, I also don't have house help and other children, husband also works late so it is always a rush to get dinner/bath/homework/stories/packed lunches done, but starting earlier and some short cuts here and there (my 4 yr old bathes himself, I bulk cook or cook dinner in the morning and just heat up) and you can make it work! Don't be too harsh on yourself, and I would hope no one would "shoot you down", no one could ever dispute that motherhood and running a home can be challenging!

I've been to a few in the park which were really nice, I imagine it would be pretty budget friendly as well as you would just pay for the entertainer if you have one, and food. One I went to in Safa 2 park the parents organised the games like piñata, egg and spoon races etc and had nkd pizza delivered there, it was nice and relaxed.

Lego is about a third more expensive here sadly! I order online and just get family to bring it over. Sometimes people sell second hand lego on dubizzle which is just as good, honestly my parents bring over lego that used to belong to my brother and I, and it's in perfect condition

I wish it were a mystery for me, but personally I know exactly why I'm more "curvy" since arriving here in Jan - I used to walk so much more in London, very pedestrian friendly and so I used to push the buggy everywhere. Here I drive...and also I eat out a lot more.

I'm astounded by how different she looks! Totally wouldn't have recognised her. Amazing how a change in eye shape just transforms her. I know she's had Botox and other stuff done but if she hadn't changed her eyes would still have recognised her.

Bumping this up as my 2nd child is August baby and I was wondering same thing. I've decided to keep him in nursery though as they do FS1 curriculum there and I have the option to pick him up at 3pm, which works well as my other children have school and activities. I did read an article somewhere, like a panel interview with different schools here regarding same question, and for most it is play based and they try and do it without the parents in same room (but will call them if child gets upset). They also do take into account the age, they know that an August baby could developmentally be different to a September baby. Lastly I remember reading they are looking for a child who is in process of, or will be totally toilet trained by time they get to school.

We live in an approx 4000sq ft villa, 4 bed villa in umm suqeim, shared compound pool DEWA during summer months was spiking to about 4500dhs (including housing fee) and about 2800-3200 during rest of year. It is a lot to pay (in my opinion) but honestly we are super stingy with AC, now we only use it at night on temperature control in bedrooms, during summer was only on when we were in. Our AC system is so old, inefficient and we can't isolate to certain rooms. So it really depends, if you are looking at compounds you are better off asking the neighbours what their average is for a clearer idea.

With you on this. I often wish I were bold enough to confront but I've had my head snapped off on numerous occassions (and I don't get angry, I try and politely explain) so now I just tend to leave it. On the plus side it makes me very grateful for those people who do have manners, I genuinely like being pleasantly surprised and appreciate it when a door is held open when I'm struggling with buggy etc, or when someone gives me way on the roads!

Initially I thought 250dhs per child seems like a lot...but I would probably spend about 100dhs per teacher for present so I suppose it could be ok. But on the other hand, if there's 20 children in a class that's 5000dhs in the kitty which is a lot of money - so I would want to know the breakdown of what that money will be spent on. Like you, I prefer my children to choose gifts, or make them, I just think it's more personal.

I have seen Frozen themed mini stationary packs somewhere but I can't remember where. Maybe Daiso (japanese department store in Oasis Centre?) Either way they have lots of stuff for parties and party favors. Could maybe do some biscuits/cupcakes with icicle shaped frosting, marshmallow "Olaf" snowmen. Depending on your budget you could get some figurines from The Toy Store in MoE. If you can find those little tubes of fake snow (where you add water and *voila* snow) those might be a good addition too.

Agreed - it's pretty much straight and there is adequate signage to Zayed Sports city. I played in a tournament there the other weekend for the first time, it's a great place.
