The vet said the baby dove needed soft and moist so he just mashed up tiny bit of bird food in water, still consistency of something between water and oil. Sad about them falling out of nest, maybe it's not positioned well? Perhaps worth a check if it is possible to access it.

Not directly helpful, but watch out for the mileage. I bought 2009 Audi Q7 which is kind of similar to X5, high mileage for this region (didn't think anything of it as back on UK, this wouldn't have been considered high mileage!) and it's been nothing but trouble, have spent thousands ok repairs in the 4months I've owned it.

Our landlord was very specific about nationality. And he insisted on an interview with us. I did think at the time that this was odd.

I had an injured baby dove on my doorstep a couple of weeks ago (present from cat) Vet stitched it up and told me to keep it in shoebox with ripped up newspaper, balled up tissue so it can keep warm indoors and I fed it a water and bird food mix, just 1ml every few hours through a small syringe. Can you return it to nest?

No help to you Izzy but have you seen that video of how to separate the yolks using an empty plastic bottle ? you just crack the eggs into a bowl then place the neck of the bottle over each yolk, squeeze and watch it get sucked up into the bottle !! lol That is such a time saver when I do it! Which isn't often, I like the yolks, nature's multivitamin :)

I definitely took it for granted in the UK. I worked for Ernst & Young and after my first child I took 12 months off - 6 months full pay, 3 months half pay and 3 months no pay, then went back 3 days a week leaving bang on 5pm. I'm also looking for part time work here. Have seen a couple of decent posts on Dubizzle, but they are few and far between. Also a good way is to contact recruiters via Linked In if you are on there.

And I too am looking forward to not hearing the loud music. Especially the love songs and power ballads at mini monsters, you'd think they'd play nursery rhymes or something!

Hi Nayls85 I often go to play areas during Ramadan, so far all the ones I've been to are open their normal times. So much better with the irritating music turned off! we're early risers (who isn't when you have kids) so it's nice to know I can keep them entertained in the morning.

My 4yr old son is due to start there, I'm excited as I really liked the people from existing Safa school. I would take it and if unhappy then look to transfer . I moved in jan and had a really stressful time trying to find a school and going through multiple application processes at same time as house, cars, nursery etc It might also be difficult to get into schools mid year, even new ones, I have no idea but might be worth calling up other schools you are interested in and checking likelihood of having available spaces in the middle of the school year.

Always used Hayber cars, good for if you are going into Central or southwest London and very reasonable. Otherwise can use black cabs but then you are looking at about £50-£60 to get into central London Thanks for the tip. Submitted an online query regarding pick up at Heathrow this Wednesday at 6.25am and received a phone call on my mobile, from London, an hour later and all booked. Very helpful chap who talked me through every detail and gave me the office contact number if the cab driver isn't waiting for us at arrivals. Payment will be cash to driver - £55 Heathrow to Thornton Heath so a big saving from black cabs. Hopefully all will be in order. You're welcome. They were a local cab firm to us when we lived in Wandsworth, always nice to recommend the good companies as there are certainly some terrible ones about!

Of course I agree it's great when they get neutered and /or adopted. That helps the homeless cat population. Unfortunately this doesn't happen in majority of cases. Then these stray kittens grow up, reproduce and we have more homeless cats

In this months Time Out Kids magazine which I bought from supermarket it also comes with a separate book - summer camp guide. Groups them into types of summer camps too (sports, crafts, mixed etc) which is really handy.

As harsh as this sounds - feeding them is not going to help the homeless cat problem, quite the opposite. It is really sad, I hate seeing skinny stray cats, hate the thought of them suffering and I admit to feeding one by my house which we've now pretty much adopted. There is always Bin Kitty and Feline Friends but they are often quite full. Hope you find them a home.

It really varies villa to villa. We are already just above 3.5k. We have 4 bedroom house (only 3 used though), pool is compound pool and we are VERY careful with AC consumption (only on thermostat 25 only downstairs when we are in the living room, always off when out which is quite a bit) and then 22 for bedrooms during night. Husband is known as DEWA warrior as always barking on about it. So many stories as well of DEWA being same when people go away for summer (those without maids so literally empty house) so I'm really not convinced of accuracy.

I'm going to 2nd this. I'm not a member (I signed up with 24fitness before I knew of symmetry gym) I come from fitness industry background and it's a really cool gym, same with 24fitness - it's not like the standard commercial chain gym. It has more focus on resistance training than cardio and groupex, excellent PTs, really good atmosphere, and a big focus on proper nutrition (none of this short term crash detox diets which contribute to metabolic damage - PROPER sustainable nutrition and training) So yeah, I'd like to switch over when my contract ends! OP congrats on your weight loss success !

do the taxis in dxb "not" have the drivers details visible on the back of the front seat, they do in auh... when my kids are in the taxi on their own, and as they have to drive quite a way into khalifa etc i always make them get a receipt which obviously details the taxi number, driver number, as they have different drivers over the 24 hour time period, so that if there are any issues etc we have a record.... as once one of my kids left his front door key in the taxi so as he had gotten a receipt we could track the taxi down and get it back etc.... in auh all the taxis are the same colour unlike in dxb with different coloured tops so unless you specifically look at the side to see which company it is its a little bit more difficult to specify. i reported a taxi in auh because i was driving down the main road and he pulled straight out in front of me and i nearly crashed into him, left all my rubber on the road, anyways hooted at him and he knew he was in the wrong! anyways if you do not say there is a problem then they cannot fix it... with anything! customer service here in uae is getting much better, before hand it would be "well who cares". I've actually been in 2 taxis in the last week that have had the taxi reg number (stuck on window) scratched out.

I also like doing dips and tapas style - home made guacamole (mashed avo, lime, bit of onion and tomato, salt and pepper) - salsa - hummus - home made Parmesan dip (grated Parmesan, Mayo, salt and pepper) - mixed bean (tin of mixed beans cooked in tomato or passata with onions, herbs and sliced chorizo for flavour) - mini meatballs (can again just buy from store) And yeah just a selection of meats, roasted, store bought skewers, and selection of breads too (ciabatta, garlic bread, pitta, etc) Dessert - buy the mini meringue nests and add cream and berries. HTH

No, my cat doesn't like being in. I wish she'd bring me dead roaches or nice instead of fluffy fledglings. I don't think I could personally whack it over the head if it had chance of survival. Especially as the terrapin died under my care I felt like this was my chance to sort of save a little life, as ridiculous as it sounds! Thanks for tip re: bell.

Thank you so much Snuffle and RuthM for the detail I'm actually terribly annoyed at the pet shop for basically lying to my Mum. They told her they would stay small, would only need a small tank, no need to feed them anything other than pet food and also that they didn't need to bask if water was warm enough. It was a pet store in JLT. It was also my Mum being impulsive and wanting to please the children with a small gift before she left, I can't blame her. Anyway I did a lot of research and I intend on treating them properly so have been giving them veggies too, water heater, I change water daily and i forced them yesterday to bask in sunlight with shaded area in a separate dry container until I find a proper lamp. Thanks for the advice, I will check out those links and hopefully have 2 happy / healthy terrapins for a long time! I've only ever had dogs and cats as pets before and it's easy to tell if they are happy, but these little reptiles don't exactly wag their tails or purr! In fact I'm pretty sure one of them hissed at me - is that even possible?! Anyway thanks again for all the advice, love that you can ask anything on this forum from advice on schools, gyno problems and terrapins!

How big does your population have to be? My brother just graduated at psychology in UK and had to do something similar for his dissertation (which was about smoking...) not sure what survey tool he used though I would rely on social media as much as poss, getting people to RT your survey link on twitter, share on FB (could post on Dubai based groups there) and also here like you mentioned

Thanks Asti and Amy Amy - my boys are 1 and 4 so I'm always on tank and feeding duty! Not that it's hard, but you're right it does smell (considering how small they are) and my hands are so dry from constant soaping as I'm petrified of salmonella!

That's a really good idea actually - thank you. Need to go there for some bits and pieces. I can't ask her as apart from her crazy and impulsive streak, she's always helped me out with the boys, she flies over here when my husband is away for long periods so I'd feel too bad asking her for help. It's ok, the children's future birthday, Christmas and tooth fairy presents will all be terrapin equipment related....

Firstly I know their tank is going to get too small for them. It's currently the size of about 2 shoe boxes. They are about an inch each but my research shows they can grow up to 10inches and need 10gallons water per inch. EEEK! Where can I get a big tank without going broke? I only see ones for 2000dhs plus! Secondly - I have been googling and youtubing like there's no tomorrow as I want to look after them properly. I'm worried as they don't seem to bask, they just stay underwater all the time. I try and pick them up and put them on the basking bit but they leap off into water. I don't want them to get soft shell or get sick :(

I think it's really kind of you to ask for her. St.Mary's Church is a Catholic Church and always has lots of Filipinos/Filipinas so maybe check there first. It's a bit far away from JA but worth a try. There is also a group of churches in Jebel Ali, not sure what sect but maybe check.

I can't say which is better for you, but for me I'm happy I kept my son in nursery for FS1 He is in 2 days 8-5 and 2 days 8-1 along with his little brother. The morning session (8-1) is spent following FS1 structure so lots of learning, hourly structure, Arabic, Art, sport etc The afternoon they do lots of play and they mix age groups. It has worked well for us, he gets to play with his brother and other mixed ages when he is in the afternoons, and in the mornings he does the curriculum based stuff. He's not behind other FS1 school children, I do things with him at home too and he can read and write whole alphabet, read 2 and some 3 letter words etc and very basic math (if you have 1 ball and I give you 2, how many?) that kind of thing. They still very much encourage independence at nursery for his class, they go to the toilet alone, open and clear away their own lunchboxes etc. It was also cheaper than paying for school, and the flexibility of the timings suit us as it works well with my part time work commitments

I want to echo what OP said Service on dubai side was good, but in the UK I had endless problems with Pickfords - they said our effects were a month late because of weather problems when in fact they were a month late actually loading our stuff onto the ship we eventually found out - we had to fork out our own money to extend hotel stay (expensive as a family with 2 young kids) as we couldn't move into our empty villa. Do you think they properly apologised or compensated us? Nope.

Check out my children's nursery - Kids Cottage near Umm suqeim Spinneys. My boys go there but have also attended camps, they do lots of cool stuff like paddling pool, baking, cooking, lots of varied art (not just your standard colour in some generic photocopy of a cartoon duck) they are very big on crafts and using lots of fun and messy mediums. During Easter camp they also brought the Sense animals in, my youngest loved playing with the puppies and rabbits! Every week has a theme and cost wise it's 550dhs for a 5 day week 8-1 but you can do 2,3,4 days too.

OP are you moving from UK? I recently moved from there with my family Just adding to advice below, had to get the following original documents firstly attested (legalised, notarized, think it's all similar) with the UKFO, you register and pay for it online then send the docs off. Then once this is done you need to do the same with the UAE Embassy - but the docs need to be attested by UK Foreign office as above first. - marriage certificate - husband's degree (DIFC required this) - children's birth certificate I expect same will go for the consent letter for your child. By the way, these things do take a while (took me nearly 6 weeks to get docs back) so I would make a start if you are planning on moving here soon

Hello Rather than simply rant and moan about it , I'm wondering if there's a system where you can report dangerous drivers, specifically those who let their babies and toddlers roam around the car and sit in the front without seat belt / car seats? Has anyone ever reported these kind of instances, and if so, how, and what happens? Have seen today again a little girl standing on the lap of someone in front seat of speeding car on SZR. Thanks
