Thanks for the reply. I do live in Umm Suqeim and I have been to Seaview but it doesn't serve alcohol. I'm looking for a restaurant that serves alcohol. I have lived in Dubai for 8 years and been to many, many restaurants. Just thought someone might know of a restaurant that is half price, crazy slashed prices just because it's August and not many people are here. Just thought I would ask. I have the Entertainer but just checking for other special deals.

Thanks for your ideas. I have already been to quite a few indoor play areas already but I will try Little Explorers. A 3 yr old and 1 yr old are too young to leave on their own so I want to find activities that I can do with them, I was hoping for a few 'out of the box' ideas if there are any! Maybe watching the planes at the airport?? Is this possible and from where? Catching the Metro to something for young kids - suggestions?

Thanks Rach28. That definitely sounds like the right April. I have just saved her phone number into my mobile so I don't lose it again. SH12 - April is a great trainer. I was working with her for a few months, twice a week in the park and loved it. April had me kickboxing and boxing which is not what I would usually do but found it really helped toned me up. Sessions were outside (a must for me) and were great fun, I would definitely recommend her.

Thanks for your suggestions but she will already get a Xmas bonus so I'm not giving her money for her birthday as well. I know they find it difficult to save but her husband is also here and they do OK. I would prefer to give her something tangilble that she will appreciate so I will stick with the camera.

Thanks Kiwi. You given me some great ideas (from a fellow Aussie - we're basically the same country!) I am going to try the port-a-cot tonight. He sleeps in the port-a-ot for lunch time sleeps as it's downstairs but I'll put it upstiars tonight - great idea. My son is 4.5 months so still too young for bumpers although he is a mover. He's very close to crawling, pushing his little bottom in the air. Kiwi - do you still have your Safe T Sleep - I would buy it?

Thanks AustralianJudy. I'm also Aussie and I'm against bumpers but I was getting desperate this morning and started convincing myself! I spoke to a friend this morning who said to leave him cry and he'll work it out. I'm going to do that tonight, leaving him to cry for some time and let's see. Hopefully it works.

Yes, my baby is rolling from his back onto his stomach and then crying because he can't roll himself back. he is my second baby so I'm certainly not 'precious' about it. but he starts crying and gets louder and louder. Sometimes I go in there and he's rolled up in the corner and arms through the cot rails. Maybe I should try bumpers?? A RANCHER - do you still have the Goan piece of fabric? I would be happy to buy it from you. Desperately need sleep.

I have two children under 2. Tickets to Jose Carreras say 'doors open at 7pm'. My hubby and I want to leave as late as possible. Anyone know exactly what time they come on stage? I've looked everywhere for a phone number for DU Arena and nowhere on the internet. Help please?

I had a second baby boy 10 weeks ago and want to get in shape. I know of a personal trainer who is AED 200 per hour, but if you have more than one person, it's cheaper. If there was two of us, the price would be AED 100 each per hour, and cheaper if more than two of us. I am looking to get the trainer somewhere between Dubai Marina and Umm Suqeim. If you want to join me in getting fit and toning up after a baby, email katedohers at hotmail dot com.

Thanks Ladybird. I'm after the tenancy contract for short-term rentals only for my apartment. Meaning, each tenant wouldn't have a residence visa (if only in Dubai for 1 week) and ALL bills will be in my name as if a tenant only stays for a week or one month, then there's no point getting their name on DEWA etc. Can you give advice what sort of contract I have potential tenants sign? Where I can get a copy?

Thanks Derien for your comments. I have tried searching for flights to get costs for the maids flight however there are no airlines that will let me put a request in for December 2013. However Royal Brunei offer flights next October through Expedia for AED 2,500. Is AED 2,500 a reasonable amount to offer for a maids flight to Philippines?

I have never had a maid until now. I need to get her visa done. A friend has told me to go through a local guy (who has processed her maids visa). The local guys said AED 6,000 + cost of maids medical and ID card. Is this cheap? What is the usual cost of processing a maids visa if you don't go through a local? Thoughts?

My husband recently went to the US on business and bought back a Clearblue Ovulation Kit with 30 tests. However it says on the box 'need Clearbue Monitor to use'. The silly sales person never told my husband so now I have 30 tests and nowhere to check them (they are different from the usual Clearblue ones that tell you automatically). You need to wee on the stick (to be crass) and then insert the test into a little monitor which tells you whether you're ovulating. Anyone got a monitor they're not using? The Monitor is called the Clearblue Fertility Monitor. I have checked all over Dubai but they don't stock them here.

Thanks again Db - will head to Tavola then - much easier as well. As for letting the cake mature, I would prefer to keep it as fresh as possible (I will make it the night before) then freeze as you suggested.

Thanks so much DB - you're very kind to send me so much information. I'm not a bad cook but definitely a terrible baker! Last time I baked a cake was 3 years ago for my work colleagues. I must have accidentally replaced sugar with salt - it was disgusting. I took the cake to work anyway and watched everyone's faces as they took a bite - very funny (cruel but funny). My boss even spat it into her hands - she couldn't stop laughing. Thanks for all the tips. I might go ahead with a packet cake and icing (as you said, easy so hopefully won't go wrong). Now to work on teh design...

Thanks Dangerous Blonde. I think you're on to something with making an easy shaped cake but then the highlight is somethign on top - not around the cake. I have seen lots of different designs done with lollies on top of the cake - might try that. Packet mix - you might be on to something but may to do a trial first. A question - can you make the cake the night before the party? but decorate it the next day? Or can you also decorate it the night before?

Hi SalsB Thank you for your request, but we are only wanting to rent it short-term. To be honest, we can get a lot more money short-term so prefer to keep it short-term unless someone wants to pay AED 120,000 for the year, 4 chqs. Otherwise we can possibly get up to AED 140,000 if we leave it short-term. It is fully funished to a very high western standard. My husband works in the furniture industry so we have been lucky to be able to furnish it very well. If you're DD is interested - katedohers at hotmail dot com.

OK ladies, you need to read the whole thread before making judgement. The maid was only talking ever so little about her employer and never said it was wrong, she was only talking about how her schedule runs as I was finding out about how often a maid works, what they do etc. If she wants to sit in the park and bad mouth her employer, why not? They treat her like absolutel $hit. Do they expect her to say kinds words about them! And I'm sorry Captain America - not giving your maid one day off a week is VERY CRUEL. The world shouldn't have people in it like that. They also make the kids sleep in the same room as her - I suppose that's ok as well. I'm not obsessed with this maid, I only met her last night. I just felt sorry for her so wanted some innocent advice. But after receiving advice from the ladies at the beginning of this thread, I will look for another maid. I was never going to chat with the employer and steal her away - for those of you who think that - you've jumped in to quickly with your opinions. Read the whole thread next time before passing judgement.

Thanks ladies, I appreciate your feedback. The maid who I've been talking about doesn't sound to be lying. In fact, I only just met her at my local park where I take my baby and she takes the kids she looks after. We started chatting as I asked does she know anyone who is available. I told her November is too far away for me and she was fine with that. However she is really nice and I don't like to hear about people been trated badly so thought I would pose the question about her visa etc. But it seems to much trouble to get this particular lady. I think I will have to look elsewhere. I also don't want to speak to her sponsor family as they seem really cruel and I don't want them to give her a hard time for the next year.

Thanks ladies. The maid's family are Pakistani so then I'm assuming that makes her visa one year as they are also expats? Are you saying she still can't leave on 1 October (date she started although didn't get visa until 18 November) even if they don't fly her home? Can't she report them and leave earlier?

OK thanks for the clarification. You're right, I'm looking for a maid, NOT a nanny. Could I bother you for a couple more questions please - I don't understand what you mean when Fiat500 said [i'>Whilst she may have a 1 year maids visa, I expect her contract is the normal 2 year one and I would say it is doubtful that she will be free to leave her current family at the end of year one.[/i'> If her visa is only for 1 year, why would her contract be for 2 years? What visa does she go on after the 1 year with the present family? FYI - I would sponsor the maid.

Thanks for your answers. I mean a nanny to look after my baby but I would like her to clean as well. I will ask her tonight if she's on a one year or two year visa, I just presumed one year but hopefully I am wrong. I'm still new to this! I don't understand the difference between a nanny and a maid's visa. I presume nanny means looking after kids + cleaning, and maid just means cleaning?? She does look after children so she must have a nanny visa. If this is the case and her two year's is up this November, what is the process?

Thanks so much, appreciate the hard work in copying all the links for me. If I was to rent short-term (talking about some tenants may only stay for one week) then wouldn't I take care of DEWA etc on an annual basis?? if this was the case, can I register my property through an agency or something?

Hi Marink Thanks for the detailed reply. Just a couple more questions - 1. Tenancy contract - do you have a template contract you could send me - katedohers at hotmail dot com. 2. Where does the tenant get the contract registered? 3. Why does the tenant need to get the contract registered?
