Don't lose hope. I have secured a fabulous part-time role and love it. It's in the same field I worked prior to been pregnant. Tip - I went into the interview confident and when they said, this is a full-time role, I just looked surprised (although of course I knew it was FT). I said, I am happy to work PT but not FT. Anyway they wanted me and agreed for me to work 3 days per week. Maybe try it.

Hello Does anyone have a Lederhosen costume that my husband can borrow to wear to his friend's wedding. The wedding is in Austria so we won't hire it, too expensive as it would need to be hired for 10 days. If anyone could help, it would be much appreciated. Ps. My 8 month old son will also be going if anyone has a tiny outfit we can borrow for the wedding.

Hi Pingu Thanks for your post. I will ask Dr. Kayed for an appointment once we have the MRI results. I have just searched for him on the internet and he seems very well educated at the highest standard and works at many hospitals.

Hi TanyaR My sincere apologies for the delayed response. DH and I just saw a neurosurgeon and plastic surgeon in Abu Dhabi last week. They want to confirm their findings by an MRI but they are 95% sure my son has craniosyntosis. Meaning, his back plate has fused closed so his head is flat. Our son will need major head surgery performed by a neurosurgeon and plastic surgeon. Can you recommend a TOP CLASS neurosurgeon and/or plastic surgeon in Dubai (for a second opinion)? Thanks again for your support.

I have already received advice from a top Neurosurgeon in Abu Dhabi that my baby will require major head surgery. The Neurosurgen + the top Plastic Surgeon in Abu Dhabi will both perform the operation. As we live in Dubai, we would like to get a second opinion from the TOP neurosurgeon and plastic surgeons in Dubai. Please advise if you can help from personal experience.

Hi Casper / Aussie81 I am also looking for an occasional babysitter but not comfortable with using an agency. My son is 4 months. I'm a 35 year old Aussie living in JBR, Dubai Marina. If you could occasionally mind my son, my husband and I would be happy to return the favour of babysitting if you were interested. Let me know. It would also save on babysitting costs and it would be nice to have someone we can trust. You can reach me - katedohers at hotmail dot com. P.S. My baby goes to sleep around 7.30pmish every night and won't wake until the 7.30am. I've trained him well!

I don't think babies need panadol, they just need routine. I would try not to play with your baby after 6pm. This time should be strictly left for feeding and bathing in a dark, quiet room so baby can settle themselves and wind down before their sleep. Good luck.

BUMP! I have a 6 week old baby and i'm due to start part-time work this Sunday. I've been offered 2 half days (12 - 5.30pm every Sunday and Thursday) for the next 2 months. I would really like to take the work but would prefer to avoid using an agency as they charge AED 45 per hour. This would nearly be more than my salary. The work might lead to something more permanent in the future so I don't want to say no. Anyone can help? Happy to meet over the weekend so you know I don't have 2 heads if you also have a baby you would like me to mind! I'm Australian and 35 yrs old and very reliable. A couple of quick questions - When I go to lodge the citizenship by descent documentation for my LO, can I just give the photocopies of passports? Reason I ask, is I'm also trying to get onto my husband's visa so my passport might not be available (but I wanted to get started with the passport for my LO). Please advise if photocopies are ok and you were not asked for the original passports? Did you just take your own photos of your LO or do you need to get them professionally taken at a photo place? If taken yourself, did you submit the photos on a memory stick or print them out on photo paper?? What is the process please? Thanks.

I went wwith ADNIC as needed health insruance at 34 weeks. There is NO waiting period. Do a search on ADNIC and it will give you all the information. Just gave birth last week and pretty much, all major hospitals and clinics in Dubai are covered.

Yes, the cover is for only YOU for one year. However it will cover EVERYTHING, I mean absolutely EVERYTHING for the baby whilst you are still in hospital. Which as you said is only a few days. However, once you leave the hospital, you will need to pay for ALL baby expenses but these can be reimbursed once the baby gets onto your insurance policy. The normal cost for your baby to be insured with ADNIC is AED 2,700 for the year. However, if the baby has been in NCIU, had an operation or complications or needs more care in the coming year, ADNIC will assess this and the cost may go up. However it's never going to be anything like AED 300,000! ADNIC are extremely helpful (very unlike the UAE general customer service). Call their free toll number on 800 8040. Any person you talk to is very knowledgeable and will answer all your questions. As mentioned, I am also happy to answer any questions. I am one of those freaky people who like to research, research, research! So I have done the leg work, called ADNIC 400 times with new questions every time before buying the policy. You could say I'm now an ADNIC expert as well!! A couple of extra points about ADNIC: * You will only be covered 100% of consultations with your doctor as well as hosptial if you use a clinic and hopsital in their network. Once you inquire about a policy, they will send you a list of network hospitals, clinics, dental, pharmcies etc all around UAE including many in Dubai. I'm with Medcare and they are included on the policy. I see my doc in Medcare Jumeirah Clinic which isn't covered, however the Mirdiff clinic is covered. I called ADNIC about this and they said they hadn't updated their list of networks but the Jumeirah clinic is now covered. So if you find a hopsital or clinic not on their list, just ring and ask. * ADNIC will not cover individuals. You HAVE to insure the whole family (meaning, you need to include your husband on the policy). My husband already has insurance thru his company, and it covers me, but not for maternity. A normal person (someone not pregnant) to get covered is AED approx 4,500 (give or take AED 100). Therefore my husband was covered for AED 4,500. A pregnant person is then charged 6 times this amount - approx AED 27,000. Totalling AED 31,000 for both of you for one year. * A friend has just told me that ADNIC has put their prices up. Therefore, if you are pregnant, you now have to pay 6 times the regular health insurance price. Meaning, it is now AED 31,000 to be covered for one year including your husband. when we purchased it a few weeks ago, it was only 5 times the amount. This doesn't cover dental. * My husband has asked his company to cancel his health insurance and they have kindly said they will give us the rebate, which is nice. Hopefully thats a AED 2,000 approx return (anything is better than nothing). * The only other out-of-pocket expense is AED 35 each time you visit your doctor. Standard fee per visit. * Pharmcies will cover 100% of medicines thru ADNIC also. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi Nimonemo I am due to deliver a baby in 1 week. I lost my job 2 months ago when my doctor told me I might be having a premature baby. Along with my job loss, I also lost my maternity cover (husband's insurance doesn't cover medical). Anyway we have just paid AED 27,000 and gone with ADNIC. Do a search on ADNIC (Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company). There are threads on it recently from chats I've had with other Mums who have purchased the package. They have an office on SZR. ADNIC, although more expensive, are the only insurer in the UAE that covers women who are already pregnant (no waiting period). They cover 100% of your maternity costs as well as baby costs, as long as you are still in hospital as well. Once you leave hospital, you will need to pay for baby costs but once you join baby up to ADNIC once born, they will reimburse the costs. ADNIC cover absolutely everything along as you use one of their network hospitals (they have most Dubai hospitals on their network - Medcare, American, City etc). Only thing they don't cover is cost of epidural for natural birth - approx 2,000. As mentioned, do a search on ADNIC and you will get recent threads with heaps of info. P.S. I purchased my insurance with ADNIC at 34 weeks, they accept you right up until delivery basically. They will also cover all consultations with your doctor in the lead up to the delivery. Hope this helps and good luck.

Hi Pingu I got the insurance at 34 weeks. You can buy the insurance at any week of pregnancy, they except you right up to the birth. I am definitely happy I got the insurance. I have now luckily made it to nearly 38 weeks, but you can never be sure so I was happy we spent the outrageous AED 27,000 than not been covered. When we were told our baby might be premature and deliver (28 weeks), I didn't want the worry of having a really premature baby and on top of that, the worry of how much every day is costing us. Bear in mind, the NCIU cost is just the incubator I think. It doesn't include any operations the baby might need, additional blood tests etc. I have also heard scary stories about AED 300,000+ for births. AED 27,000 for FULL 100% cover for you and the baby (whilst you are still in hosptial), as well as cover for YOU for 1 year, is better than chancing it I say. Good luck. Let me know if you have any further questions, happy to help.

I have HEAPS of customers who have come back from holidays after Ramadan wanting to lose those extra kilos. Hey Conster I got married in Kenya too! In Dec 2010 on NYE. It already feels like so long ago. We got married in the Masai Mara on a hilltop overlooking the valley - stunning! We stayed at the Karen Blixen Camp - expensive but absolutely incredible. All meals and drinks included in the package and two game drives per day. I don't even have words to describe our experience. They really took care of us. I wrote to the owner afterwards and thanked them (as you can book directly thru them). Read the review on TripAdvisor - http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g294209-d1051579-r93316836-Karen_Blixen_Camp-Masai_Mara_National_Reserve.html#CHECK_RATES_CONT - my post is the first one labelled 'Amazing, everything we could have asked for and more'.

I'm 3 weeks from giving birth and took them from 5 months to 7 months. I was also a littler nervous about taking them but heaps of people have done the same. I was taking them twice a day so don't worry. I also had to take them from the front passage. A handy tip, the morning one I took and then sat at the computer emailing and doing what I needed to. At night, I took it literally the last thing I did before getting into bed. Reason was becuase it can get quite messy, especially the morning one. If you move around a lot, it can leak out and spoil your pants. Best to sit for at least 30 mins after taking to avoid this. The night one is fine as you will lie down in bed immediately after, just the morning one can be a problem is taking twice daily. Sorry, terrible conversation to have but handy to know!

EJC - just to confirm, when you took your marriage certificate to the Australian Embassy, they did NOT attest it? Did you get married in Australia? I got married in Kenya in Dec 2010 (my husband and I are both Aussies). Apparently we need to send our marriage certificate back to Nairobi Ministry of Foreign Affiars, have it attested there, then the UAE Kenya embassy and then the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Why does this country make everything so ****** difficult. The process I have just explained above, can you tell me if this sounds correct? You may have more knowlege as you recently just did the process.

If it helps, I am due to give birth in 4 weeks and I've been keeping a spreadsheet of every single cost (including nappies, bottles to blood tests etc). My company has paid for my insurance so pregnancy check ups have been free. The birth also will be taken care of by the hospital however some costs are not free (depending on your health insurance). For example, epidurals and elective c-sections are not covered by most policies however if you have a good doctor, they might be able to give an excuse why its needed to waver this cost. As for setting up the nursery etc, I have paid AED 3,200 to date and have everything I need. This has included AED 1,300 worth of tests that were not covered by my insurer (down syndrome test at 12 wks for example). The remaining AED 1,900 has been spent on a stroller, car seat, bottles, nappies, nappy cream, baby bath, lotions and potions! I purchased a lot of stuff second hand from Dubizzle. As so many people are constantly moving away from Dubai you will be amazed what prices you can purchase various items for. I have done a rough calculation and saved around AED 3,000 alone from purchasing on Dubizzle and not buying new. That's a big saving. Also, if you have friends that have chlidren and no longer babies, they may be generous enough to give you items to borrow. My friends have been gorgeous and without asking, have given us a moses basket, base for car seat, toys, double breast pump and clothing. I haven't factored in the saving from these items. I agree with Hello Kitty who wrote you can spend as much or as little. A good friend has spent AED 20,000 just setting up their nursery. The choice is yours what you want to spend. I hope this gives you another look into how to save and what costs can be for a baby.

Thanks M and Nams. Apparently they have put up their policy for pregnancy so it's now 5 x the policy amount, not 4. I said to my husband they can charge what they want as they know we will pay. It will still be cheaper than giving birth if there should be any complications (touch wood nothing happens) but I would rather be on the safe side. Who knows the real reason, most likely that I was 32 weeks when I submitted my application. Although no problems, I'm not overweight, etc ,etc, there are no rules in the UAE which can be so frustrating. We just have to pay. As it includes physio, I might get an adjustment once a week for a year!!

To M & CoffeeGal I just received the quote from ADNIC for my insurance. It's AED 27,000 including my husband's cover (who doesn't need it but it is required for me to get the policy). Instead of 4 x policy cost, they have decided to quote 5 x policy cost. I am so annoyed. I am 35 yrs old and my husband 36 yrs old. We don't smoke, drink, exercise regularly, both in normal weight ratio and I haven't had one problem since becoming pregnant. I was 32.5 weeks when we submitted the policy. Clearly they know I'm desperate for insurance so will pay the higher cost. I want to know at how many weeks were each of you and how much you paid if thats ok? <em>edited by NinaSimone on 14/08/2011</em>

I am also due mid Sept! I got my bras in Australia when I went home a month ago as I know you can never really get great help with fitting here. Some tips that I was given - make sure you get one size bigger to allow for when the milk comes in and no under wire. Under wire can restrict the milk flow so you shouldn't be wearing underwire after 5 months apparently (but I was until 7 months). That's all the advice I can remember sorry. This will be my first baby so all new to me.

Hi M & CoffeeGal Just letting you both know I submitted an application for ADNIC insurance on Saturday. The policy sounds good. My husband also had his mate look over it who is an insurance broker and he also said everything looks fine. Let's just hope the baby stays in there until at least the end of this week, giving time for ADNIC to complete our application and send the quote. I want to pay before the head starts poking out! One thing ADNIC doesn't cover is vaccinations. M - did you just pay for these? What's the cost? Do they give babies vaccinations straight away or is it weeks later? I have heard you can get a health care card for your baby and then go for free to different clinics. Can your baby have a healthcare card without a visa? Or do you need to get a visa and then apply for the card?

Hi M Thanks so much for your further clarification. Do you have an email in case I would like to ask you further questions about the policy and you're not online. I will call ADNIC tomorrow but just in case. A couple of other questions in the meantime if you don't mind - * Does the 19K cover premature delivery? * Does the 19k cover hospital stays in Dubai? * Does the 19k cover me and baby after been dsicharged from hospital or is the policy only for the birth (whether premature, c-section or natural)? * What is the name of the policy? As I don't have any cover at the moment, if the 19k does cover me and baby from now, it is definitely worth it. A natural birth at Medcare is 10K and c-section 18K so the 19K will definitely outweigh the concerns if I should go early or any problems occur.

I have to start the process next week of moving my visa from my company to my husband. However, my husband's medical insurance does not cover maternity. I'm due in mid Sept but my doctor thinks I may go much earlier (like in the next couple of weeks). I am going through Medcare Clinic but Medcare Hospital don't accept you until 34 weeks (I'm 33 weeks tomorrow). I read in a past thread that another woman got health insurance through Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company. AED 19,000 and no waiting period. Can anyone please shed light on what I should do? I don't want to have a premature baby and be left with hundreds of thousands of dirhams in debt. Any advice, help on insurance would be much appreciated.
