For what we were looking for was something for the little one to climb on, swing and a slide, but not too small as we would want it to last and for him to grow into. However, we still thought the prices were too pricey for us, or maybe we are just too tight with our money!! The small ones we were looking at were still over 2000 to 3000AED. They really didn't budge on the prices either, also they slap you with a 250 AED delivery charge too, even though we live in A.R. We decided to change our plans for now! From The Scrooge Nippy!

I know how you feel.... I went to Ted Morgan last week, just for my highlights to be redone, the roots and a trim! They put in three colours in my hair and the cut, I look awful! I left it for nearly a week and in the end, I sent them an email and explained that I was not happy with what this lady did to my hair. They have arranged for me to go back, this evening to have it re-done with no extra charge, but by a different stylist. Not sure what they can do on the cut, but I'm hoping they can put my colour back to they way it should be. I've never complained before, instead I've gone and booked elsewhere the next day, or never gone back again. But this time, I don't know why, but I'm just fed up of having bad hair cuts and colour, mine was not as much as yours, but still at 705AED is not cheap either. I would complain, to see what they can do for you. Good luck, Nippy

The one near the main entrance of Dragonmart is called HOCC, also have a website address of www.hoccdubai.com I was given a contact name of Jimmy on 050 7068 440 only a few weeks ago. Another one is further down, inbetween the side alleys, booklet states, Cartoon Bird Trading L.L.C, there website is quoting WWW.ctt-toy.com I found these two places were the better ones with more of a variety to offer. Good luck in your search. Nippy

I tend to use the glass cleaning wipes you can get. The sticky hand marks come off really good, and it doesn't leave a smear. Nippy

Some of the flyers are handy to have and I wouldn't get to know some of the places unless I had a flyer put on my door step. I can go days without anything, to be honest it doesn't bother us, we keep what we want and throw away what we don't. In fact we had a menu put through last week, rather handy as I couldn't be bothered to cook on Saturday, and it was rather tasty! Nippy

I went last week to Ted Morgan on the Palm, I had a lady called Ava, for my highlights and cut. I am going back this Wednesday to have my hair re-done as it's a complete mess, by another lady, Rachel, fingers crossed she can do a better job! Nippy

I went to Ted Morgan on the Palm last week for the first time and I'm not happy at all. I went in to get my roots re done, was talked out of it, ended up having three colours which I didn't want and now all my blonde highlights are more brown! The cut was no better, in fact at the moment, I cannot stand my hair. There was another lady sat next to me, who was being done by the same lady, and when she left she was not happy either! I have got in contact with them today, to see if they will do anything to correct it. On the Motorcity side of Ted Morgan, I asked when I was there, it will be open in 6 weeks time, they will be taking two staff from the Palm and the rest of the stylist will be coming from the UK who are currently working in Ted Morgan shops. Hi, It didn't state in our contract but I felt I wanted it to be left in the good state that I received the apartment in. We lived in our apartment for 2 years and to be honest there was hardly any marks etc on our wall. We didn't want to pay for a full paint job as it didn't need it. However, one of the quoting guys recommended to go round to the walls that had the odd marks on and use a soapy cloth and a very fine sand paper and it will come off. This was what I did for the odd hour here and there before we left, and it looked sparkling clean. We even got a comment on from the landlord inspection on how clean it was, as very little people tidy the place before they leave. Nippy

You are completely right Redlesley. I don't think I was born but my parents were involved in a car accident 30 odd years ago. My brother who was sat in the back, but in the middle just leaning forward, ended up going straight through the windscreen and carried on down the road. Luckily for my brother and parents that due to his age he just bounced and didn't even break any bones. Around that time the law was getting tighter in the UK about wearing seatbelts. So for me I've always been brought up using my seatbelt. It's still very shocking when you see it in this day and age. But like you say they are so many years behind everyone else in many things, it's still shocks you.

My DH went to Waitrose a few months back to do the weekly shopping and the check out girl entered the wrong amount. Instead of putting 645.98 on the swipe machine, she entered 6645.98! DH couldn't do anything because it went straight through the machine, before she had even given him the slip to sign! They couldn't do a refund back to the card, they had to go round all the other check outs to give my husband back 6,000AED in cash! Then we had to make an extra trip to a different mall to pay the money back into our account! Nippy edited by nippy35 on 28/09/2011

We have done the Burj Al Arab, skyview, which was lovely. Recently been back to the Raffles, and was very dissapointed, all to modern, the scone was in a shape of a sausage bread roll, the cream was in a tube, the selection of sandwiches was awful. To be honest, we came home and ordered a pizza as we were still hungry! Ritz was dissapointing but that was over a year ago and we were all ill. Nippy

Hi Ladies, Looking for some suggestions... My nearly 2 year old son, just will not eat normal food. I still have to boil his veg and mash it up, I do now leave lumps in his food that I make up, but still enough for him just to swallow. Most days I will try and make a sandwich for him, which he happy takes, but he will just suck at it, if a piece falls into his mouth, he will spit the lump of the sandwich out. It's as if he doesn't know how to chew and swallow. I give him some cheese puff balls, he eats those, as they really just melt in his mouth. He knows how to bite food, as his done it many times, sometimes he will keep the lump of food in his mouth, then he will just spit it out. My son is at a very healthy weight, so what I'm feeding him, is looking good on him, but it's such a pain and hard work. Any ideas anyone...?

Hi, We went to the Ritz for afternoon tea begin of last year and we all came down with food poisoning and was all ill for some time after. We had the champagne offer and everything came out at the same time as the tea! Just didn't feel right to me. However, we have been back to the Ritz a few times, for lunch and each time we have had lovely meals and no more upset bellys! Nippy P.s We did go back to the Raffles for Afternoon Tea and was very dissapointed in there new modern menu! edited by nippy35 on 27/09/2011

Hi My son goes to DBS and I am happy with the school but a few little niggles, like for example, it's his first full week back at school and no homework!! And they sometimes have the tendency a week before they break up not to give out homework, which I do not agree with. Maybe its down to individual teachers but so far for the last two years, it has been the same. I do find the ECA's that they have to offer more for boys, is pretty awful, they normally like you to choose two or three, and this term my son could only pick one that he liked! We are still waiting to receive confirmation for outside companies, which of course you have to pay for. My son is happy and that's the main thing, overall it is a good school but like any schools there are always a few niggles that bother you. Good luck Nippy

Hi, I used to live in Al Seef Tower 3, and to be honest there were a few issues, but nothing major. When we first moved in the apartment, back in 2008 there was this awful smell problem in the master bathroom/bedroom, after several visits it was sorted out. As for mould we did have a problem with it but only in one kitchen unit. They hadn't tiled properly and the hot air from outside was getting in behind the cupboard and was causing mould. However, we did have water occasionaly leeking in the kitchen from the a/c, not massive amounts of water, but enough for you to have a bucket out! In the master bedroom, we did have the bottom wall start to bubble up and the paint was flaking, I did report this to the landlord on many occasions, but they kept saying it was down to condensation from the bathroom! My husband thought there was a small leak somewhere as it kept on spreading. We left the apartment this year, when I went back a month after moving out to hand over the keys, due to the A/C being off, more water leaks had occured, one in the kitchen and the other in the master bedroom, which was pretty bad. The swimming pool and gym area was okay, nothing grand, but enough for a dip in the pool and a few equipment machine for a work out. To be honest most of the times we went to use them, you were mainly on your own. If you want anymore information please ask, nippy35 at gmail dot com Nippy

Hi, Slightly different situation. I am divorced from my son's father, and I was told we needed an no objection letter. Which I have, also I had to have it all attested and by the UAE Embassy in the UK. We have been asked for this letter and even now, they will only give my son a 1 year visa, even though they give me a 5 year one! so each year I have to renew his visa. Better be safe and have all documents with you and have them all attested by the necessary people. Nippy

Soon to be a newbie to the Ranches, could I please a few more questions. 1. How do I know which t.v/phone/internet connection is set up in the villa? Or do I just go to Etisalat or Du and set up a new account? 2. Apart from Dewa do you receive any other monthly bills? (Living in an apartment we have things like, Palm Utilities) 3. I think if I can remember I saw a gas hook up for the cooker, is this directly to the mains, or do you need to have bottles? At present I have an all electric cooker, so I'm hoping for now, I can still hook up my electric one? 4. Never had a garden before here! How do I go about arranging a gardener? 5. Babysitters, I currently use Smartmaids for my babysitting for the odd evenings out, does anyone know of any nearer services or any other babysitters? I might have a few more questions, but for now, that's it! Thank you in advance and greatful of any other suggestions etc. Thank you. Nippy
