Oracle1111 Please look at past threads about pet shops in DXB selling puppies/ kittens. The most recent I can find , sorry cant seem to attach, 'Where to get a pet dog' and many others you can research on here. The pet trade is a multi billion $ industry supplied in the most part by puppy mills in countries that have lax animal cruelty laws. As Lolacat mentioned even if they are puppies many come with problems as they have been separated from the mums too early and have major health and behavioural problems. If you are adamant to get a pedigree dog PLEASE PLEASE search for an ethical breeder from a country which has transparent animal laws. Of course you could always get a puppy from K 9 who will be a healthy happy Hinz variety...;)

A very wise old lady once told me when I was younger and going through a hard time, "Nothing lasts for ever, not even the bad times". Now that I am an old lady, not necessarily very wise, but certainly much wiser than I was, I truly know how right she was. Please try to hold on to that thought, it helped me carry on through the darkest depths. Good luck to you, you will come through. LT sounds just like my gran.... OS so sorry to read of your troubles.I think it was Amy Aus who said, don't loose faith and fall back' in love with 'yourself, very wise words. Will pray for you.

Yes Yes and Yes.....sorry no longer in DXB so can't advise where you can get them, there are a few threads you can research on here. Do lots of research online, I opted for Bios and have been on them for 3 years now and have never looked back.Am on a combination of Estriol,Estrodial and Bi-est in the day and Progesterone at night. Must stress that everyone is different so start with thorough blood work to see where your levels are and work from there. Another thing I found was the creams were not enough for me,I needed a more concentrated boost and the capsules were the ticket. All the best at the start of your journey.;)

You just made me smile:):) On the way back home after burying mom I broke my 36 hr trip with a quick stay at a airport hotel. On the way to the hotel lobby I was pulling my stroller feeling like the world was on my shoulders with grief. A lady passed me and gave me the most Beautiful smile,I turned round and said gosh I really need that smile......she said 'yes I know you did' and went on her way. My problems were still there but I felt that little bit better.......

Oh DR what a terrible tragic accident,my heart just aches for the parents. SD personally I commend you for coming forward onto this sometimes judgemental forum, and relating your experience. I look on this discussion as a positive move to educate and to inform, share experiences AND ideas on how to PREVENT this from happening to another parent. TDB comes on and says yes it made her extra vigilant ,what happens she gets responses I would never allow anything to happen to my child. Not everyone is as fortunate to be able to have their children in front of them 24/7, in fact in many parts of the world kids are raising kids. As I said before as a grandma who looks after my Gkids often, this has given me a heads up to be EXTRA careful ( my lot are sooo loud and vocal when the car stops ) with my precious cargo. We are all human not infallible ,have a bit of empathy.

The world we find ourselves in is so very different to that many of us grew up in and in fact parented in......I see this with my own kids daily.DS has a very demanding job AND is contactable at all times ,there are days I don't know how he manages,DIL also has a very demanding job.I am sure many are in the same boat. Gone are the days when you came home from work and left the 'Office' behind , now it follows you everywhere........IMHO this has a major impact in how some parents have to cope.Yes even if you are a SAHM you have to pick up and cope where OH can't. As a grandparent with the advantage of living nearby I have been able to step in and fill in when necessary .Not all parents have this advantage as let's face it there is no better nanny ;) What I am trying to get across is in the environment I find myself in I see all too often just how easily a terrible mistake can happen. I have set myself a few NO GO UNLESS rules......as I have found my memory lets me down(Menopause) so have had to adapt with changes in how I do tasks especially G kids and safety. Accidents happen and all we can do is do our very very best to work at preventing them. RIP precious little one and prayers for your poor parents......

But there are people like that in Dubai..................sad but true, and much more fun to write about than the people who quietly live and work like "regular folks". Call it the other "Dark side of Dubai" if you like, but there is a small section of the population who do behave in that fashion. Of course, most other cities in the world have their own version of the same, but Dubai does seem to attract posers!! Don't always shoot the messenger!! edited by Livelytrish on 07/06/2013 So true LT......I went to one of these OTT dinners with a few 'posers' in the crowd.....the one upmanship got so tiring. All I wanted to do was eat the food as I was starving, tuned out and noshed it all anyway.

Nad Al Sheba vets should be able to give you a bit of advice. It is important to make sure you leave no human scent, whatever you do wear gloves if you are going to touch it. Perhaps think of knocking up a shelf on the wall ...... NAS are one of the best when it comes to birds. Hope it all works out.

I'm glad this is a happy thread - knowing the stories end well makes them easier to read. Apologies in advance if this is a dumb question but how do you tell the difference between a stray (street) cat and a lost cat? If they seem used to people that is a a good sign.Any semi feral won't be too happy if you try and pick it up.....be careful though I have had terrible scratches from a cat I thought was tame. I have also noticed that many of the lost/abandoned pets tend to look very unkept and thin, they are not street smart and go down hill very quickly. Lovely thread by the way.....nothing nicer to read than a united pet/family.

Oh dear! Is there anywhere else you can sell? I have a villa full of stuff I will need to get rid of over the next 5/6 weeks or so + two cars!! Would be grateful for any advice. Sorry to hijack, never done this here before! Get rid of cars first and rent for remainder of your stay.... been there many times....use local notice boards and always put up loads of pictures.Be reasonable with prices I found 50% of original price plus would negotiate from there.Start as soon as possible and spend last few nights in a hotel.HTH All the best with your move with the fur babies. OP Dubizzle can be VERY frustrating , I always found local notice boards so much more successful. As someone also mentioned EW classifieds can also be successful.

Just spoke to DS ex Ford tech he says to check the fuses.... the main battery fuse something that is always overlooked. Is there power being supplied when ignition is turned on or is the car completely dead?.Is the vehicle turning over( is it cranking..trying to start). Check simple things ,battery connections don't let them just sell you a new computer.

Some already mentioned but mine are: The Secret Garden Bedknobs and Broomsticks The Railway Children (an amazing movie in Mary Poppins league) Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Mary Poppins The Water Babies Labyrinth Flight of the Navigator Batteries Not Included Cocoon Born Free Homeward Bound Old Yeller (definitely not for younger/sensitive kids) Short Circuit Benji The Sword in the Stone Flash Gordon Superman A Christmas Carol Bill & Ted All Dogs Go to Heaven The Rocketeer The Love Bug Jason and The Argonauts Cool Runnings Star Wars/Empire Strikes Back/Return of the Jedi (not the new ones) Back to the Future (recently watched this with our friend's 7 and 10 year old and they loved it) Escape to Witch Mountain Forever Young (love JJ Abrams, hate Mel Gibson - watched this at boarding school, one of our end of term movie night treats!) Santa Claus the Movie Oliver! Miracle on 34th Street Wizard of Oz ET Black Beauty Black Stallion Indiana Jones (not Crystal Skull) Never Ending Story 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea Karate Kid An American Tail The Last Unicorn Swiss Family Robinson Lord of the Flies (older kids only) Land Before Time Who Framed Roger Rabbit Beethoven Davy Crockett Flipper Honey I Shrunk the Kids Home Alone The Mighty Ducks (someone had to like it!) The Addams Family The Princess Bride Monster Squad (older kids only) Watership Down (definitely not for younger or sensitive children) Some of these are maybe for older kids 12+, some are more family movies and some older kids movies have a tendency to not always be all about happy endings which can upset some kids nowadays. WOW RuthM what a fab list would just add 'Lassie come Home' a real oldie but I howled my eyes out as a child. Was soooo happy when Lassie found her way home !

Sorry but my opinion is VERY black and white with no leeway. HE CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO DRIVE FROM TODAY.... I lost my brother to a drunk driver ,we would not have had to tell my mother that her beautiful boy was dead IF SOMEONE had of done the responsible thing and taken the keys away from the drunkard who killed him. Don't get me wrong they do need help but before you do that he has to be TAKEN OFF THE ROAD by ANY means possible, permanently until it is deemed safe and he is no longer drinking AT ALL. How would your friend feel if he killed an innocent family.....or her own precious children,my mom NEVER got over losing her son and ultimately gave up living.....:( edited by Nomad on 21/05/2013 Hugs to you and your family Nomad x Thank you.

Because they haven't experienced a close relative suffering from and dying of smoking related diseases. In Canada a few years back Barb Tarbox (sp), who had terminal lung cancer ,went from school to school with her bald head ,oxygen and painfully thin body to warn teens and show them what smoking does. She was so passionate in her quest and right up until the end had her dying experience filmed. It caused a stir initially and every now and then she is remembered, but high school teens still make up one of the largest group of smokers here. I once asked a young teen why she smoked and she said it was easy for her to keep the weight off if she stuck to caffeine and cigarettes ! Not sure if this is true as I have never smoked but a number of people I know who have given up say the biggest problem after getting over the nicotine dependence is the weight gain. edited by Nomad on 21/05/2013

I don't have FB so can't access the site.....probably a good thing. I do agree that you will get animal cruelty in all 4 corners of the world. As in the case now yes there are laws that are supposed to protect all Gods creatures BUT it is all in the implementation of the law. Recently in our local news there was a young fella who tortured a puppy. When he was arrested his mug was on the front page of the local paper, for all to see. Oh boy when he came to his first court appearance the animal rights brigade has his no.He will be shamed for years to come ,that besides what the courts will dish out ( never enough in my opinion). Animals rights and the laws in general to me seem way too lax and need serious attention in many countries. JMHO

Oh from that lofty perch on the soapbox........heaven forbid that some should find themselves in the same situation as OP. Well, actually, I have private health insurance in my home country - that we save for and maintain - as well as here so that we will never actually find ourselves in such a position. It's amazing all the things you can avoid if you plan ahead and don't spend all your money at Saffron! Ummmm sorry don't quite get the point but is the OP spending her money at Saffron ??! For all we know she has been saving like mad and has fallen on hard times........ edited by Nomad on 19/05/2013 Saffron was a reference to a different thread. My point is you can't come here and not build in a safety net for yourself. We have several - for all contingencies - including reserve insurance in our home country. I'm always surprised by these "hard luck stories" that could easily have been avoided with a bit of common sense. But that's just it what if life throws you a curve ball while you are 'building that safety net' as you put it..... Many people come to the ME with that though in mind and after spending 25+ years in the region in recent years that goal is getting more and more difficult to obtain.

In life there are those that do and those that sit on the sidelines and criticize........and I might add it is always the same posters who try to help and the same ones who have negative or unhelpful comments. I know I bang on about it but always consider before you pass a comment, how would you say it if the person was sitting in front of you? The faceless world of the Internet is responsible for much misery today, don't add to it. To those who are trying to help the OP ,well done,as has been pointed out what she is asking for is not illegal . Hope it can be sorted soon. Skykitty great post, could have been written by a pilot;);) Above all avoid the Pay to Fly programmes....the biggest rip off ,they target the young eager guys who have stars in their eyes who see nothing else but the chance to fly a jet. In the good old days you worked your way up to a jet AND the only paying that was done was you got a salary and paid off a training bond if the airline gave you the conversion. This bond was generally worked off over a number of set years with said Airline,if you wanted to leave before your contract was up you paid any balance owing Many airlines still use this system. As SK said military is a good option put the cross over to civilian can be a challenge , but many are successful. If it were my son ( DH retired airline pilot ) and he had his heart set on it I would steer him into the military, yes there are legacy carriers with cadet programmes but there are many more applicants than there are slots. All the best.

As a foster parent to many I do understand the need to check up but there are limits. I would phone after the first day and then leave it for about a week.Give another phone call and then leave it . I do still email yearly at Christmas to catch up with those I still have contact info for. This family I think are seriously missing their cat and don't quite know how to deal with it. Perhaps you could email them saying that you appreciate the fact they are worried about the cat , but that it is now time to let go and move on. I know it is annoying when people keep on using the previous name but for me it was hard as I fell in love with each and very one of them with the given name. Enjoy your new addition.

PIP? I quite like his recipes and his books are usually quite inspiring.... but he does annoy me in person :) I met him a few years ago (not in a restaurant setting) and i found him charming.............. rather self effacing and with beautiful manners. And he didn't swear once!! I think he is genuinely interested in helping people who need it. I wonder if the restaurant is still open ? Love the Kitchen Nigthmare series but his ****'s Kitchen series does seem OTT sometimes with all the yelling. DIL in the food industry says that swearing goes with the territory but even she gets shocked sometimes. He does not shirk hard work as that's what got him where he is today.
