I could be wrong, but I think you can only register to do them online, but the test itself must be done at a testing center. There are a number of schools here that do them, and I believe there is a testing center in knowledge village.

I have looked for years and gave up. A long time ago, you would occasionally run into a gallon of it at Safeway - but I have not seen it there for at least 6 + years. I would love to hear if anyone else has had any luck.

Thanks Sandbox. I have thought to try them, but did not have time to get over there today. Very frustrating. I wish I could get to the States - I'd have a list long! Thanks for the reply.

Maroosh, we have done both -- but the problem keeps coming back. It is very strange as we have not changed anything in years in terms of same settings, same computers, both are virus protected, etc. It happens to both upstairs and downstairs connections. After awhile (depends) it just fixes itself, but we don't know why it is doing it in the first place. When we go to make a new connection (after deleting old), it says it can't find server-- even though we are not using wifi . I might mention that this happend to my husband when he came into town and tried to hook up to our connection as well. edited by norak on 17/02/2013

I just did the run on Tuesday and no one asked. Maybe it is different if you are in a rented vehicle. Personally, I don't think they would ask unless you were actually heading into Oman for touring other than just turning around.

To possibly save you a trip, I happened into Park N Shop and noticed they did not have any either. Will keep an eye out next time at any other markets.

My daughter is currently in her 2nd year at Middlesex studying Psychology. She started with the "foundation" year, and then joined the Psychology studies. I asked her to comment on your inquiry, and she feels the university is "ok" (typical - lol). Although she feels the teachers are qualified for their field, she says that this does not always mean they are good teachers. Her other comment was that you don't really feel like you are at a typical "university" experience here -- campus is small, no real extra curricular activities. You don't hang out there -- go to class, go home, etc. Hard to explain other than it is not your "real" university experience. My son said the same of Wollengong here. I don't know if that is helpful, but that is what my daughter passed on.

Look to see if Cigna is available for individuals. We had them for a few years where it covered just about everything under sun and some, no deductable, etc., and then our employer changed to a lesser policy where we had deductables (reasonable), co-pays, etc. It was still Cigna, but different policy. You may still be able to contract for the premium one. I'd give anything to have them again.

CallMeMaybe replied : Yes, you can go to the notory public and draw up a document which will be used in the courts in replacement of Shariah law. I understand that, but my question is that since I am a Muslim, my distribution is already decided thru shariah law (with the exception of charitable donations which I can specify in a Will), so why do I need it if I cannot change it, and my children are already grown. And, with regard to the person wanting to cut out a blood relative, I seem to remember hearing a long time ago saying that it is not possible to cut a blood relative (if they are entitled under shariah) unless they have renounced islam and no longer consider themselves Muslim. I had attended a talk by a sheik and a question was asked along these lines. My memory is not always the best, but maybe someone will have a more definative answer.

I'd like to insert a comment here as it has been something that has been in the back of my mind for some time. Islam prescribes how the inheritance will be divided--fairly straight forward. So, in a situation where you no longer have minor children and aside from the small percentage that a person is allowed to bequeath to charity etc., what is the advantage of having a Will when the heirs are already decided and by what percentage? Just wondering if any other Muslims have given this some thought as well. Also, to answer your question, I would like to add that I have seen a number of different templates for islamic wills on the internet. I don't think it is a requirement that they be drawn up by an attorney i.e. expert -- so long as it is properly executed in front of witnesses and notorized -- and then translated to arabic as required etc. Any comments? edited by norak on 12/02/2013

Do a google image search. The one I use is a nice, dark crisp one when printed out and of full size. There are many available, but are quite fuzzy when printed etc. I am on my way out to pick my son up but I am sure I saved my search somewhere and will post or can send to you if you can't find.

Just my two cents, but I agree that you should not leave the house as well. If he is that adament, just tell him that you have no interest in leaving and don't want a divorce. The Court's here, if they have jurisdiction, would never give him divorce without your knowledge. Counseling would be required even if only one wants to try to make it work. My understanding that if just one partner tells the court they don't want the divorce, they will make every effort to encourage reconciliation through counseling. I understand many husbands will say they don't want divorce to the court just to delay or punish wives -- so it is not that easy for him. My heart goes out to you. I should also say this suggestion of not doing anything to cause more anger is probably something this gal is already very familiar with. It is a form of abuse to have to walk on egg shells all your life.

I couldn't agree more. I finally found the place -- after going to the first two locations I thought it to be. When I arrived, most stuff was still packed into boxes and what was out, was broken or useless. That said, I did buy the only mirror that was not broken (tiny chip), but they were trying to sell mirrors which had broken in half for 50 Dhs. There was nothing salvagable about them. All were broken in a very obvious manner. Anyway, when I checked out with my mirror, I told the guy that everything there was garbage and that they should be paying us to take it away. I said that because what they charged the guy in front of me for small (obviously broken lid) trashcan, a small, printed dinner plate, and a cheap plastic children's clock for 50 Dhs. I opened a number of sealed boxes hoping to find something of value. Not one thing.

You might try Saddique and Sons at the Mall of the Emirates -- upstairs next to Jumbo's I think. It's on the Carrefour side of the mall just down from Home Center etc. They used to carry some linens as well. I know they bring in comforters etc from the States. Agree with Dwell.

Ok, now Im frustrated. I went by this place 2 different times and somehow missed it. Does it not say Home Center anywhere -- the map I found said "Third Line". Did not see trucks. Came back home and looked at map again --- exactly where I was at. Will try again tomorrow -- SZR is bumper to bumper at the moment.

There's a number of shops in Satwa that have them -- all different qualities. The road that goes to the Iranian Hospital. You would have to go into a number of shops but have bought before. I'm thinking I found them more on the hospital end of the road as opposed to the Satwa road. But this was a few years ago. Look for sanitary shops.

One of my kid's favorites was a small packet or baggie of tortilla chips and a small container with salsa with some shreds of cheese. Add an fruit and a juice box, and they were pretty happy. Aside from the salt, its pretty healthy, satisfying and easy. I also used to make small chef's salads -- chopped up lettuce, turkey/chicken cubes, couple of croutons, cheese shreds and a side packet/container of dressing.

Tattie Bogle replied : Did you do it on purpose Norak? Simples, take heed. Never! We first lived in an apartment in Dierra (19 years ago) and I had a small balcony. Every single time I hung out his white shirts -- the sleeve would always fall and the cuff would hit the balcony tile. If I tried to clean it, it would just smudge. I ended up having to wash it all over again. It happened so much I just could not take it anymore, and my husband was OCD about his white shirts being white. He still is. My newest problem has been the tips of the colars have been becoming marked or "brownish". I think it's from rubbing around the window of the dyer (just guessing). I now have to put them in a washer/dryer bag because the tips do not not always come clean even after bleach. So frustrating.

Roysie, thanks so much. Will head there on Sunday. In the meantime, I've bought a clear plastic shower curtain liner (5.50 Dhs) and covered the whole top and sides and down the front glass. Locked the sides into both the side doors. Will be good enough while sitting stationary.

Where at in Satwa as I'm afraid those who just solicit in parking lot may not be able to handle it. It's jammed pretty good -- I think the roof cover is the main cause of the jam. Tugging at it is not moving it at all. I took it to the Meadow's station guys and they said they could not handle this.

That's an idea -- but I don't even have one of those either. I'll rig up some plastic/cardboard tonite and, if I am lucky and it doesn't rain over the night to morning, I'll pop out for a car cover in the late morning if necessary. Finger's crossed!

Normally, I'd be the first to be excited for any rain BUT, my darling husband, jammed the sunroof on our Pajero the other day and so it will no longer close. We live in the Springs -- just a carport. Does anyone know where I can get some good plastic or a cheap car cover until I can get it in to be fixed? What luck?

Have not seen one recently, but I must say that I, with regularity, leave my crock pot on while I am out--it was one of the selling points years ago when they first came out. On the other hand, I would never leave my oven on while out.

I guess it depends upon the size of your room. There are carpet places and there is also the rugs at Dragon Mart that I was looking at which are with designs and made in Turkey. They were pretty soft and dense . Price I was quoted for a 4m x 6m was 1850, or 4m x 5m at 1650 Dhs. If you really need plain, you'll have to check carpet places like Mastafawi (sp?). Hope this helps.

There's a few office supply shops around - ones that sell office furniture specifically. I think it's called Al Nassar Office Furniture (something like that). They have one in Barsha (off Shk Zayad Rd), one in Karama by Sana, and others if you look them up on the internet. I have bought many from them and they are still going strong, and no so expensive.

Ok, ladies, I will give you a little tip for items you can't find on large supermarket shelves. Pop into the little shops like Al Madina or neiborhood shops. You can usually find easier items like stock cubes etc because they don't sell in such quantity like larger chains. This is what I do when I can't find everyday type items which are out of stock. My secret is blown.

I had one child at Wollengong and another currently attending Middlesex. Both were offered AXA through the school -- so perhaps there is a student policy you can access through AXA. I seem to recall that it was over 1,000 Dhs a year (how much over don't remember), had a small co-pay, and pretty good coverage. We did not need it so have not looked into it in more detail. Hope this helps. edited by norak on 16/01/2013

They were talking on the radio about this last week and the host was saying that there is no feasible way to register even a good portion of the numbers currently in circulation in the time alloted. They said the number of hours available even working at full capacity could not do it feasibly. Therefore, these deadlines are in place to get people moving but will, undoubtedly, have to keep extending. I went this morning because I will be traveling for an extended period of time and will not be able to meet any further deadlines. I went to the Etisalat at DIFC. As a woman you get a separate cue (number). It was not fast, but much quicker than other venues I'll guess. I went early and was out in about an hour. Hope this helps.

There's a Big & Tall shop located on the corner opposite Bur Juman Center in Bur Dubai. I think they also have an outlet in JBR but not sure which building. I seem to remember once them saying they don't do sales except for DSF -- so probably a good time to visit them.
