Hi everyone! I haven't actually seen the apartments yet and will only be staying two months from July. I have settled for Gloria because it's so close to the metro and there's a direct bus to the office (8 minutes, just perfect, I'm really worried about the heat). If I had to sign up for a full year I would definitely go and check out Liwa Heights, too, I'm sure JLT has more of a 'community' feel to it and I'm considering that area in the future - if all my expat dreams about Dubai come true. I'm familiar with noise from SZR from a previous visit at Rose Rayhaan by Rotana, it took me a day or two to get used to the traffic! I really appreciate all your replies and help, thanks again.

It really sounds wonderful. I was just on the phone with the sales manager there after my enquiries about rates for long term stays. I hope my reservation will go through, the only problem is that she asked for a company name since the rate she offered per month is a corporate rate. I did give her my credit card details and somehow hope it's all going to be fine. In my first email I wrote to her that I'm a student, so now the question about what company I'm related to is a bit confusing. If I can't get the apartment with Gloria, I'll probably ask Liwa Heights again, but really would prefer Gloria because it's so close to the metro. Good luck with TECOM, I'm sure it's going to be awesome:-)

Hi ladies, I would like to know how it works if you have visitors at a serviced apartment. I understand there may be a fee or charge for the extra bedding, but would my friend be able to use the gym/pool/facilities once this fee was paid for and she was registered in the reception? I've inquired about the prices for a guest at Gloria Hotel and it's 100 AED without breakfast per night and 150 AED including breakfast. I'm completely new to 'serviced apartments' and I've already been asking them too many questions by email. On a student budget and really just need to know before inviting her over.

Wow, any idea what agent that was? Agents would probably not provide monthly stays, am I right? I have been offered a price of 8500 per month directly from Gloria Hotel, but that's still a bit high on a student budget. I will be staying on a visa on arrival/visit visa so can't use long term contracts etc. yet.

Perhaps this can help you, I will have to go through the same procedure once I get there in July: http://www.dubaifaqs.com/visit-visa-renewal.php

I'm soooo fed up with contacting people on Dubizzle. Whenever they reply via email it's always from a Hotmail account. Totally shady! I've just been trying to look for furnished studios, though, perhaps the market is different than villas. I'm beginning to think a serviced hotel apartment with 1BR is a better bargain and a safer option than dealing with these dubious Dubizzlers. End of rant from Denmark, looking forward to being in Dubai in a few months no matter what;-)

At the moment I'm considering either Liwa Heights or Gloria Hotel for the summer. I know from my previous visits that SZR can be really noisy, on the other hand Gloria is right next to the metro. I'm sure the heat will be a real issue for me, so I also have to take that into consideration. Tough choice!

Thanks a lot, JLT seems like a 'work in progress'. I have a question about the walking distance from Liwa Heights to the metro. How long time does it really take to walk? I've seen everything from 5 to 15 minutes, and I'm not sure which one to believe. And how long time does it take to get to the JLT station by feeder bus instead? (Assuming there are feeder buses in the morning). Ha,ha,ha.....feeder buses what are they? An endangered species in JLT, bus stops...... But no buses have ever been sighted. 10 - 15 mins walk, easier now the paths are almost finished.

Don't drive either, live in the Marina too and have no problem with the taxis. I tell them at the start - if they drive carefully I will give them a tip (inferring that I won't if they don't). I don't have kids here either. Thanks for sharing this technique, I'll try that next time. So happy to find this thread and see I'm not the only one slightly frightened of Dubai traffic.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4154/5082746577_c253e9eae2.jpg This is what Arjaan Towers/Rotana look like. The tall tower is the hotel, the other one is the office building, I think it's called Media City Building 14, too, there are plenty of companies located there.

I didn't book a one way ticket but I did book a ticket with a return over 5 months ahead which may be viewed in the same way seeing as I would be overstaying a visit visa with that. Hi ladies, I really hope this is still okay since I'm planning to stay two months during summer - arriving in the beginning of July and leaving again by the end of August on a return ticket. I've been to Dubai twice since Christmas (fell in love with the place) and on my first trip, the guy in the airport asked for the name of my hotel. Nobody asked in the airport during my second visit, but I'm just a little nervous about booking a fixed date return ticket knowing my visit visa has expired by then (planning a visa run to Qatar by the end of July). I'm totally new around here but have been learning a lot about Dubai from this forum, much appreciated! Hope to find a job in Dubai as soon as I finish my education in Denmark:-)
