Thank you ladies for te inspiring responses. DD has just started nursery for 2 mornings a week and whilst I'm enjoying the time to myself its usually spent doing housework. I feel "in limbo" at the moment as DH says he is away to start traveling with his work. Some Countries DD and I could go with him and others I could go home for a while. He isn't sure when this is happening r for how long. He reckons he will e away for 6-8 weeks at a time. I will not stay in Dubai when he is away as that is my idea of h3ll. I really feel strongly about the care of animals so volunteering when DD is at nursery at the likes of PoshPaws might be an option. But due to the limbo situation I wouldn't like to start and not e able to commit. Anon: I agreed to move here as I was told by my husband that we would have more time as a family as Dubai works shorter hours (ha ha!), I could stay at home for the earliest years of DDs life, I would be able to find part time work no problem, the climate is such that we would be able to go out to parks etc year round... I could go on but you er the picture. I never thought I'd lose my sense of self and purpose, I have always been organised, committed and focused... Wow it's ht me like a ton of bricks. Apologies for the typos- extremely small keyboard edited by notheragain on 15/10/2012

Thanks. Ive read a little into it and aparently my local authority will pay me direct if both parties agree. Also the rate that the LA will pay for a 2 bedroom in my area is far greater than any private tenant is willing to pay -which seems strange. The reason the tenant had a bill in my name was because BT told me it was not possible for a tenant to set up a contract when I was the owner. That was my first experience of letting so lesson learnt and no more BS accepted. All the tenancy agreements are done through my solicitor ad y dad manages the day to day problems/queries. I just wondered if anyone had first hand experience of letting to DSS? On one hand I can't afford for the house to sit empty but on the other I don't want to have a rogue tenant in I can evict if things get to the point of no return.

I have just put my house up for rent and have had lots of interest. This is good but the overwhelming amount of people are asking if I'd consider DSS. I have rented out my house 4 times now and all been private tenants. It has always ended up ending badly... Unpaid rent, damage to the house that the deposit doesnt cover, bills left in my name (!!!!). Anyway my question is: would you rent your house to DSS? Mostly it seems to be single mothers asking me. At least the rent would be guaranteed?

Even when my DD is dressed in pink everyone asks if she is a boy. I think it's the lack of hair that's doing it though

Thanks ladies. Will maybe see if my next visitors will bring across a few bigger size bags then. If I take the side off obviously I wouldn't need the bags but I'm sure she would embrace her freedom and spend all night playing with whatever is in her room

.... You took the sides off the cot? Or put them into a big bed? When did you start using blankets instead of the sleeping bags? My problem is my 18 month old is getting too big for her sleeping bags but I feel she is too small still for a duvet. Also she climbs when not restricted to a sleeping bag but again I feel she is too young for taking the side off her cot. I've looked everywhere for the next size sleeping bags but they seem to stop at 18-24 months (DD is tall!)

That's nice. OP, you can explain to her: she can pay you back for her visa, take out her own insurance (medical, and then bonding insurance to clean people's homes--if they do that here), pay for her own meals and board, pay her own plane tickets home, not collect one month holiday since she is wanting to be more of an independent contractor, and you'll gladly give her 35 dhs per hour. Sounds like a winner! :D Yes the "finer details" they don't seem to think about. I wonder what she would choose; 35dhs hourly rate or paying thousands of Dirhams in accommodation/visas/food etc. are some people really that stupid? I mean really? What's next?

Ladies, I have an interview tomorrow and I'm wondering what to wear. In the UK I'd go for a trouser/skirt suit. However, since having my baby there is not a chance of any of my work attire fitting me. I was thinking a long dress? Too informal for an interview? Obviously first impressions are everything. What would you wear or expect a candidate to turn up wearing? Thanks

I wish I hadn't bought: 1- the 3 travel system/ strollers before my Quinny Zapp 2- as everyone else said the fancy outfits from 0-3 months 3- the breast pump that I didn't have the time/patience or milk for 4- the "cost a fortune swing" that DD hardly used 5- baby toys. They neither want nor need them. 6- the baby carrier that DD hated and the sling that DD hated in equal measure. Im glad I bought: 1- quinny Zapp stroller. Folds away to nothing, ideal for traveling and you can put a maxi cosi infant seat straight onto it. 2- a good quality cot bed. Sturdy, functional and converts to a toddler bed. 3- the jumperoo (controversial I know) but very handy for containing baby while you nip and wash out bottles/ housework. 4- the interlocking foam mats fOr DD to play on, many a bump saved! 5- the Chico style seat that DD spent 0-4 months in everyday. Sorry for going over the 3 limit

Thanks for the replies/advice ladies. I have been out to them this morning and told them what I expect to be done by the end of their day. Seems to have worked as they are actually being productive now. Currently they are sleeping in the garage as their afternoon break. They can have as many breaks as they want as far as I'm concerned as long as they get the job done in a timely manner. They let me pay for the job so they can do it, even though it's summer. I will of course make sure they are well watered as always.

Something else I've just started worrying about LOL. If I'm driving Emirates road or similar and get a puncture what do I do?? I'm not good at changing tyres at best of times but on hard shoulder of eg Emirates Road in 40 degrees heat would faze me...... My DH had a blow out on the bypass road the other day. He got out the car and was happily away to change it himself. A local man stopped and told him to stop and called in another man to change it for him.

Ladies, We are getting our garden landscaped at last. we laid plastic grass out the front in march now we have the same gardeners back to lay real grass and trees/plants in the back. I am having a "gardener nightmare" this time though. This will be the 3rd day they have been here and so far the have only dug up 1/3 of the old, dead grass. When they did the front (slightly smaller area than the back) theydug up all the old, dead grass in one day and cleared it. Every time i look out the window i see the gardeners sitting at my table and chairs, sometimes with thier feet on my table! I have had endless knocks at the door for water (which obviously is no problem to provide) but they arent actually doing anything. The first day they sat sleeping in my garage from 10-4. I know they are supposed to take a break (12-3?, 1-4?) but this is ridiculous. I really want to tell them when they arrive to speed things along a bit but how do i go about saying this without insulting them? We have already paid them 3000Dhs for materials (i.e the new turf and plants).

Hi, can anyone tell me if doing baby sitting from home a good idea in Dubai? What are the requirements?! Thanks in advance! If you are talking about making money from babysitting in your home then there are a whole host of requirements to be met. I'm not well versed in these but i would imagine you would at least need to start with a business license. Hopefully someone can fill you in on all the requirements

I loved the ranches. We stayed in a townhouse in Alma. Very convenient for the golf club, shops and the main entrance. We were opposite the pool. The only reason we moved was because the LL wanted 170k for the second year after the 1st year was 130k. We moved to Layan where we have a bigger villa, huge garden, gym, shops, spa etc for 140k.

I have, and would've happliy helped you out AGAIN (like I helped you out with the Colief & Infant Gaviscon) however... I've text your husband twice and mailed you once to find out how you guys are getting on and no reply :\: I'm all for helping out strangers and will go out of my way if I can, but a simple reply would've been nice too!? I'm actually really worried about you (gathering by your frantic/desperate threads on EW). Re: the expired Woodwards - I would not use it. I have 3 bottle which expired in June, and just received a new stash from SA. the is a distinctive change in colour from the expired bottles and the bottles I just received. Clearly the composition has changed. I am also still waiting for a response to my offer after repeated follow up. Although reading your response indicates that I need to just get rid of the expired bottle

Tara, thanks for your reply but as I stated on a follow up post a few days ago, DD now wears a harness and reins when out walking anywhere so I'm happy that at least nobody can take her away. We were out today and I caught a couple taking her picture.... Now that DD is "attached" to me I am going to focus on teaching her to be very careful who she speaks to and to only go anywhere with her dad or I (unless I said it was ok). Thanks again for everyone's comments, tips and criticism as always ;-)

What was their original price? I as 45dhs per hour as I was "a bit further away". I'm about 3 mins from AR!! Anyway the manager came round before the cleaners to make a list and insisted I needed 2 cleaners the first time for an initial clean. So 2 x 45dhs for 4 hours, 360dhs!! For them to turn up late and not do what I asked.

JbR Mummy, I have 2 bottles. One has never had the seal cracked and the other only has 1 dose out it. Just checked and expiry date is 06 2012. You can have the unopened one if you want it. I'm near AR That would be amazing but is it ok to use after its expired? Please let me know how much and when I can send DH over! =) I'm not sure about the after expiry use.... I presume that it is as a guide. Like I said its unopened. You can have it for nothing. Send your DH across anytime. My mob is . Let me know when you get it and I'll remove. edited by notheragain on 30/08/2012

I thought they were expensive anyway but I used them on recommendation from EW. They turned up 20 mins late and didn't do the ironing (that I asked them to make a priority). No response to email complaint.
