JbR Mummy, I have 2 bottles. One has never had the seal cracked and the other only has 1 dose out it. Just checked and expiry date is 06 2012. You can have the unopened one if you want it. I'm near AR

ok thank everyone. so the solution is dont be afraid to challange anyone and a polite but firm "No" will stop this occuring? just to add my DHs opinion is not the same as mine; obviously i would rather sitch red hot pokers in my eyes than see any harm come to DD,. not that im saying DH wouldnt but im not afraid to stand up for myself/DD.

I just had to put my 10 pence worth in. I can't believe that your husband would put not challenging a local above the safety of his own daughter. If you are firm and polite, then you have nothing to worry about. I have friends who are locals and they have told me that a local is not a god! Their words, not mine! You need to be firm and say NO! Just as Bex says. If your daughter starts to think this is normal, then you need to look at the possible repercussions. Hugs to you x Thanks TheMrs, like i said he is petrified to challange a local and he always says "they mean no harm" - which im sure they dont mean harm but.... i most definately dont want DD to think this is ok/normal edited by notheragain on 26/08/2012

Did you say anything to them? You really needed to. No matter what nationality, it's NOT ok for ANYONE to do this to anyone's child. No i didnt say anything, DH was giving me daggers as he is petrified i'll challange a local and it will have repercussions. Thats the only reason i mentioned nationality. I agree its definately NOT ok for people to do this to anyones child but it happens all the time, and usually so quick - its scary.

Hi ladies, Sorry if this comes across as a bit of a rant but i am genuinely interested in solutions to my "problem". Since the first time i took DD out (a few weeks old) people - strangers - have been touching her hair, squeezing her arms/legs/cheeks, taking pictures, kissing, cuddling... etc etc. While at first it was flattering it seems that now she is walking (18 months old now) she has become a magnet for all nationalities attention. People get physical (as listed above) with DD most times we go out and the worse part is they dont even ask, thier cameras are right in her face and thier hands all over her before i know whats happening! On friday we (DH, DD and I) were walking round Mirdif City Centre and out of nowhere this "older" local lady swooped DD up into her arms, turned her back on us and started walking away with her! It turned out that she wanted to show DD to her daughter in a nearby shop but still.... of course when the lady showed DD her daughter, the ladys daughter walked away with her to show someone else! Now i know that 99% of the time people have good intentions but i dont want DD thinking its ok for her to be lead away/touched/hugged/kissed by strangers. Obviously, my DD is not the only child that recieves this attention so how do you all deal with it? DH freaks out at the thought of me challenging a local. However, the main nationalities that do this are Indian, Pakistani, Filipino and Arabs.

Just asked DH if he is going to leave the AC on when he comes over to join me (for 2 weeks) and he said he is going to leave it on.

I've decided to escape the heat for a few weeks and head back to the UK. I'll be travelling alone with my 4mth old and am planning to take an 8am flight from DXB. For those seasoned travellers, is there any advice you wish you'd known before you took your first flight. One of the main things i'm 'worried' about is how she will sleep in the bassinet because she's so used to sleeping in a dark, quiet room and unlike most babies, seems to be a very light sleeper so i'm not sure how she'll go on the plane. Any other words of wisdom would be great! TIA My DD sleeps under the same conditions as yours. I flew alone with her at 4 months but was advised by the ladies on here to take a night flight. She slept through the rake off and landing and a good chunk of the flight (also back to the UK). As mentioned, I dressed her in a sleepy suit and you are provided a blanket. Just make sure you feed her or give her a dummy for take off and landing. Good luck.

a friend suggested that any baby items i buy i should wash before use. anyone else heard of this and do u advise it?? Everyone told me to do this too. Anyway I didn't, all the clothes get washed with non-bio with our clothes and (touch wood) DD hasn't had any problems with her skin. I do however unpick scratchy labels. DD is 15 months now.

My twins go to nursery for 2 mornings here in the UK. They are 26 months old. Not sure if I will put them in one when we move to Dubai. What are the costs involved? Do they get funding at any stage? Thanks Hi JPS1, my DD is starting nursery in september for 2 mornings a week 8-1. It's costing about 6000 Dhs a term (3 terms a year) if you go 3 mornings it's around 8000Dhs. Prices vary nursery to nursery though. I understand there are nurseries you can pay on a more regular basis, the one on the palm springs to mind. Hope this helps

Have you tried the classifieds on here? I sold alot of stuff on here to some very nice ladies who came when they said they would come and didn't haggle on the price as I'd priced them at a reasonable price. I agree, only had good experiences selling things on here. The only thing is it takes (in my experience) a few days from placing the ad to it being on the site.

Im not sure where Posh Paws is but its near the Polo Club. It backs onto the Bypass Road and the road that goes to Bab Al Shams (Al Quadra i think its called) can you get to it off the Al Quadra Road yet? Last time I went there you had to go along Emirates Road and come off just before DubaiLand, go up that road over the roundabout and onto the Bypass Road towards Abu Dhabi, and then bounce off the Bypass Road onto a track and into Layan from the back. yes, through the Global Village gates onto the Bypass road the turn off from there. Its really only 5 mins from AR. Rental prices are good here. We moved from a 3 bed townhouse style home in AR to a spacious 4 bedroom semi-detached for the same price.

notheragain - that would be brilliant. Thanks so much. Ok I'm working in it. In the mean time Layan villas are all rented through Dubai Property Group (use Salwan as agents) so for availability here you would be best phoning DOG direct. I honestly don't think there are any 4 beds available in Layan but obviously that may not be the case.

Dear Ladies, I am seeking your advise as experienced mothers regarding traveling with my DD soon to be 1 year old. We are traveling back to Europe in economy 7 hrs and 30 mins, alone. We have travelled before but always accompanied by daddy and even when sharing the load with him it was tough :O. I am already fearing this trip as DD is extremely active, energetic and curious and cannot remain still for longer than seconds and needs to climb, chew and explore everything around. Please anyone share your best tips and advise, we will treasure it and we need it desperately. TIA I've travelled alOne back and forward to/from UK with my DD when she was 4 months, 10 months and about to do it again with her now at 15 months. It isn't as bad as what you might be expecting. Did you book a night flight? Have you booked her her own seat? She will be too big for the bassinet now

Need to find a good ironing / laundry company who will collect and deliver to Arabian Ranches. Any recommendations and how much should I expect to pay for a shirt to be ironed - I can wash myself! but hate ironing with a passion!!! Minimax, use the laundry at the shops in AR. I've been using them for 18 months and no problems. They will collect and deliver. 5dhs a shirt

He doesn't want his ex wife to "win" but she gets to dictate where he lives and who with? Hmmm. It would be too much for me to take. Even if he does decide he wants to have you in his life, the two of you would have to chase his kids round the world? My own opinion obviously but personally I would let him go, move on before your life starts to revolve around him.

TIA Yes. We bought 2 book cases and they delivered, assembled and took away the packaging at no extra cost. Only thing was they were missing 3 screws and in typical Dubai style we chased them for days, including 2 trips to the shop and after a week they were here.

Nobody would mistake this house for a home! It's a big villa. Lots of bare walls, minimal furniture, "open plan" layout too so looks even more bare. I don't want to spend too much. DH doesn't want to house to look cluttered. I'd love to fill it with marina furniture but it's SO expensive

I have a question about the Summer Surprises ... My DH and I are expecting and we were waiting on the Summer Surprises sale to pick up gear for the baby, would you guys advise against it, since they mark up the prices for the "sales"? What I would do is jot down the prices of the items I would purchase now and then when the sale starts look if they've reduced it or increased it. I would agree with this. Then you know if you are actually getting money off or not.

its just summer sales. watch them though as i was going to buy a top last year for 190dhs and waited for the sale.... sure enough it was in the sale "was 290dhs, reduced to 190dhs".... wtf? aparently its common practice to mark up and "reduce" prices for a sale here. I wouldnt get too excited, its usually cr@p

Hi Kiwispeirs, some of my fave girls names: Eilidh Ailsa Daniella Cameron Evie Siobhan Hollie Darci My DDs name is in that list. I do have to say though it was a tough choice I liked Eilidh but wanted Ann as a middle name, but said with a Scottish accent it sounded like Alien! Also we have quite a "Difficult" surname... So suggestions like Iona would not have worked. Congratulations btw!

I went a few weeks ago, the 2 decent rides were under maintenance but still had to pay full price - we even checked the website before we left and no mention of it. The good thing is its mostly indoors. The acrobatics show was pants btw. I wouldn't waste money again (and it's not cheap) unless I knew for a fact the decent rides were actually open.

Sorry didn't mean to sound high maintenance and preciuos because I'm not honest!! I havn't really spoken to many... A few mums and dads at the pool at emirates staff, we are not emirates and when i say that I seem to get the cold shoulder !!! Which is strange as I would have thought that would be appealing?! So I've met a few but not many but nothing further has come from a ten minute chat at the pool. ???? Purplerain, I have exactly the same problem. MOved from a nice area to Layan (on the bypass road). While the house if fab the neighbors all blank me in the street!!! We live on a street full of Emirates pilots and their families, they mix with each other and ignore the average joe (aka me). edited by notheragain on 16/05/2012

Could be she had a bad dream that was about you, and of course when they're little it's hard for them to know what's real and what's not. I prescribe lots of cuddles... if you can get close w/o her freaking out, of course. Otherwise, nice calm voice and talk to her lots, without looking directly at her if that's what's setting her off... My mum told me I did the same with my dad when I was about three, for maybe 2-3 weeks... so seems normal at that age Thanks SkyKitty, will keep an eye on her (hopefully without freaking her out!) It's quite sad to think that DD might be frightened of me - albeit for a short time

SherryD, when my DD was 6/7 months I bought those big foam play mats (from Ace) and put a few different toys on them for her to play with. Some soft toys, some noisy, some light up ones.... I found that the more musical the better in DDs case. The foam mats were strategically placed in the centre of the room so DD still felt she was part of the action even though she was not getting direct attention. Worked for us, now we have moved villas and DDs mats with toys are over in a corner, she quite happily toddles off there and plays herself. I contemplated a play pen but decided to put a stair gate on the stairs and make sure we closed the door to the kitchen and other rooms so she has maximum space to walk about/play. I also feel that the jumperoo benefited DD rather than hindered her. She just wanted the freedom at 7 months when she wanted to crawl everywhere.

Hello ladies Lo is 6 months old and she is getting bored with swing and play mat and needs more entertainment. I am looking into two things for her 1 a huge playpen that can last her for long. Any recommendation where i can find one or is anyone selling ? I saw in ace and just kidding but its fairly small i feel and is useful only for few months i believe. I believe online i can buy but prefer to get it from dubai as soon as possible. 2: i was thinking of buying this weekend jumperoo rainforest from fisher price for her. Can you share your experience with this. Is this better or is the baby einstein activity and discover centre better? SherryD, i wouldnt bother with a jumperoo. DD loved hers from 4-8 months.... once she started crawling she wasnt interested in being "contained" in anything. Its quite expensive (around 600Dhs) for a few months entertainment. RE: playpens. I saw one in babies r us that was either a pen or a room divider. have you got a section of a room that can be divied off to give your little one more space?

I had something similar happen to me a few years ago... Saw my job advertised on a well known recruiters website for more money! So i printed off the job spec and salary info and sat down with my boss and said id like to apply for the position. He explained that they were expanding the department (nice to inform the workers!) but wangled a pay rise out of it in line with the advertisment.
