There are lots for sale on Dubizzle. Some less than half price. I don't think anyone will give away a popular car seat when they can make a few AED selling it. I may stand corrected though.

Rainyskies, here is my honest opinion from what you have written (obviously I dot know you and can only go on what you have written) Have you asked your husband if he actually want it to work? Do you actually want it to work? I'm sorry but I would not stay with someone who 1) insults my mother and asks her never to return 2) isn't really bothered if he sees you for 2 years 3) threatens to leave every other day 4) isn't bothered that he may not see his baby for 2 years 5) makes me feel like its something I've done alone to create the breakdown. It takes 2 to have a baby, get married and agree to relocate. I'm sorry to say that if my husband came out with this scenario I wouldn't hesitate to start building a life for me and my kids away from him. Don't let him call all the shots. Stand up for yourself. If its like this now you're going to be walking on eggshells the rest of your married life waiting for him to flip out and threaten to leave again. Does this mean you won't be seeing your mum again? You only get one.

Try oilandgaspeople.com, reed, hays, Michael page. Aparently they are screaming out for engineers in the UK. For uk posistions try: aberdeen appointments agency, thorpe malloy, hazeleng, orion etc. What position is he looking for? I have a few contacts in Aberdeen I can send his cv to?

It's a complete pain in the bahookie isn't it. I have had countless arguments with taxi companies as pre booked taxis never turned up. I'm having a mild panic about booking a taxi to take my two sisters and I to the airport to head home. Ill have to book a pink taxi as ill need a car seat for my lo. Hopefully it'll turn up and we get to the airport on time :-/

I know times have changed in that society is more self-absorbed and we're less likely to know who lives next door. But regarding pervs (which is what we're really talking about), have times really changed or is there just more awareness? As a kid back in the day, I had a perv try to whisk me away. He'd been stalking me for days. I ran and told my parents who told the school and there were police patrolling the area for a few days. But thank goodness we were all still allowed to ride our bikes around (limited to around 3 roads) and we would knock on strangers doors to sell blackberries... and I used to love it when little old biddies would chat with us. That's one of the things I love about having a dog now, it gives people a reason to stop and chat. It's just nice. edited by Wednesday Genius on 03/01/2013 WG, I don't know where you grew up, but in the States, I think these changed around 1981 when the Adam Walsh abduction went national. His father now hosts America's Most Wanted. Before then, my Mom would let my siblings ages 9-11 hop on their bikes and encourage them to go ride around, go to the public pool, etc. I think that was a classic case of how media awareness changed things. Pervs have always been around, but media brings reality home. When I was allowed to go out and about, it was on our small block where everyone knew each other and the leash was tight. I think things changed in the UK when James Bulger was abducted, totrured and killed by two school boys. Since then there has been numerous stories of abduction and peodophiles, Sarah Payne and the Soham murders spring to mind. We used to do exactly as these kids are Doug, chap the door and ask to wash neighbors cars. We were in a neighbourhood where most people knew who each other was ad whose kids belonged to which house. We were allowed to play outside in the neighbourhood and as long as we came back for meals and by the time the street lights came on it worked out fine for us. edited by notheragain on 04/01/2013

Do you expect her to work from 6 am to 6.30 pm without a break? Does she have to clean the whole house between 4.30 and 5.30? Will it involve washing and ironing as well?It really depends on what is is exactly that you will be doing yourself, but in general 12 hour days without a break seems a bit stiff to me. I don't think it's a bit stiff. I "work" from before 6am till about 8pm, then on call at night. When DD is awake I do all the feeding, playing, entertaining. When she is asleep I do mop floors, Hoover, ironing, cook meals, clean bathrooms and kitchen and sort out all the washing...... ;-)

Hi Anchor, what a crappy situation you are in. I would have to agree with simplesabc, given your situation I wouldn't move to Dubai. It's no secret I don't like living in Dubai but I won't waffle on about the pros and cons. Put it this way, if it wasn't for the fact I love my DH wholeheartedly and would do anything to keep my family together I most definitely would not move here. I have good friends who have been married 20+ years, solid as a rock, lived as as expat in many countries, suddenly finding that their marriage is starting to crumble here due to work pressure/commitment. It seems they want their pound of flesh and more for the tax free salary here to the detriment of many a strong marriage, let alone one that's hangi by a thread. With regard to your work. It is difficult and frustrating trying to find work here as depending on your line of business you may find yourself priced out the market as a number of different nationalities will do the same job for a lot less money. (sad but true). I don't know the facts about separation here and the rights of the mother regarding her children but I would [i'>assume[/i'> the US Embassy would step in and assist if things got "difficult".

MrsMozz, I know you said adult clothes aren't appropriate but I had a look in H&M at the marina mall yesterday and they had lovely knee length dresses, thick straps, halterneck, no low cut types so IMO fine for a 10 yrs old. You'd have to obviously get her to try on a few sizes till you found a ladies size for her but maybe worth a shot? Also not expensive, always a plus ;)

I had notheragain in mind when writing this. I hope she's alright. ShopGirl, thanks for your concern but honestly I'm fine. :) Not wishing to start the whole thing again but in hindsight I would have chosen a different word from "disaster" to describe the situation I am currently facing. However, lesson learnt. I'm sucking it up and making the best of it. Thanks again to all those who came through with advice, opinion and in some cases brutal honesty ;) NHA - I was thinking about you too and honestly, if we had sat over a coffee perhaps my "tough love" speech might have come out differently yesterday! I truly hope you're feeling happier and it just goes to show how typing a message is very different to have a face to face chat. PS - your comeback "list of I'm sorrys" surely has to go down as one of EW's classic threads lol! Ha ha it was a bit of a self pitying rant. Apologies. It does go to show though that the words you type and the words you speak may be exactly the same but taken totally differently. :)

Is it the short shorts that have the bum cheeks hanging out? They are I'm fashion just now. If so absolutely not. If you mean the style that come down her thighs a bit then (depending on her build, and I mean depending on if she still looks like a child or if she looks like a teen) and make your decision once you have seen them on. There are a lot of sick people out there. And finally, if you had to ask on a forum surely you have serious doubts as to her wearing them anyway? Error on the side of caution.

Fair play to the OP who actually tried to save the cat - hands up how many would have done the same and bothered to try to save the cat / pay for it to be euthanised / taken it to a vet. I am ashamed to say I witnessed a car travelling in the opposite direction to me hit a kitten and I continued to drive as I was late for work. It still haunts me to this day that I didn't bother to stop (this was in Barsha where strays are 10 a dozen) and by the next day when I went up the same road, the kitten was just a smudge in the road :( Part of the reason I took in 2 strays was trying to assuage the guilt! Agree there are a lot of harsh answers which are unnecessary - the OP was in an emergency situation and just wanted a quick response. As for her car hitting a cat - it happens, strays run out into the road all the time, it's very sad, but surely not her fault?? *Like*

My husband is also working today - he works every day. He takes about 1 month off every year during summer when we travel to our home and maybe take a vacation somewhere and that is it - he rarely takes a day off otherwise. This is the down side of running your own business. You are not alone. Just thank Allah you are married to such a good man. Ahamdulillah, a hard working and responsible family man! I wouldn't have said my DH was a responsible family man but yes he is hard work......ing

My hometown is Alva, a tiny town in central Scotland, just a 20 minute drive from the city of Stirling where we have a huge variety of good restuarants, cinema etc. Today we have bright blue skies, cold and crisp and the hills behind me are aglow with trees covered in autumn leaves. I can walk to the shops and have a coffee with friends in our local tearoom, pop into any of our pubs for lunch, a five minute walk and I'm in what's called the Woodland park, my sister is just round the corner. A 30 minute train ride and I'm in either Glasgow or Edinburgh. Doha was beige, dusty, too hot and boring. No contest I'm afraid! edited by JoyceB on 15/11/2012 Och I miss home after reading this. How would you compare and contrast your life in Dubai and your life in your home town? Simple answer is Dubai is the polar opposite of my small, traditional, Scottish home town. People speak to one another, it's green and granite, there is a local school for kids in the local area, you can drive less than an hour and be in a national park, the city or a lovely picturesque beach (where you can walk your dog). My town has 2 rivers, a golf course, a castle, numerous parks etc etc. Nibody really uses thier car to go to the shops and as a result you actually pass the time of day with people you meet. my mum grew up there, my grandad grew up there, my great granny grew up there... You get the picture. The only downside is if you break wind in the local asda by the time you have walked home the rumor is you sh1t yourself. My home town is everything Dubai is not and never will be. As for my life, Dubai is, to me, the most lonely, superficial, boring place I have ever visited. I regret agreeing to live here for my husbands work. edited by notheragain on 15/11/2012

You have to take tea in the lobby area rather than the Skyview bar if you have children with you...and you will have to make a booking, you can't just rock up as you won't get through the barrier... It's dry from Weds 6pm to Thurs, so no alcohol issues on Friday... Hmmm I was thinking kids wouldn't be allowed "inside". Fair enough, it is a bar.

Hi, I took my DD to the UK at 4 months. She slept most of the way in a night flight from Dubai. She had er usual naps through the day an I put her to bed at her usual time (7.30pm). Even with the 4 hours time difference at this time of year she got up at her normal time (6-7am). Don't make a rod for our own back getting up at 4am. You are going to be totally wiped out and for family that are working if you put your DD to bed 4 hours earlier than normal uk time they won't get to see her. My advice, go with the flow, don't clock watch and you'll be surprised how your DD adjusts. Good luck

We save but I'm sure I wouldn't stay here if we weren't saving. The whole point of us coming here was 1) to spend more time as a family 2) to save money, since number 1 has been a non starter if number 2 wasn't happening we wouldn't be here.

Notheragain, what is it that is troubling you? Safety/Boredom etc? :) Hi BettysHP, a bit of both tbh. The trip is 7am-7pm and I am a) worried about her being bored and b) worried that I wont be able to let her go incase... My mum and dad are coming over to visit and have requested this trip as a "must do", so tickets have been bought. I'm just not sure if it's the kind of thing organisers have thought about let alone cater for? I was hoping one of you lovely ladies might put my mind at rest by sharing an experience. Good would be fab but a bad experience could prepare me.

I would say for a 1 and 3 year old wild wadi will be a let down. I have heard dreamland is better suited to toddlers although I've never been. It's cool enough to go to the parks in the morning ad beach after 4. I'm not sure I would pay inflated prices to take kiddies so young over tbh. You can go to a beach and park at home?

I have to agree. Heathrow was the most unfriendly, unhelpful airport I have been to whith regards to flying with a baby. I had a 3 hour layover there last year and was assured I'd get my buggy back at the door. I had an 8 month old heavy baby and hand luggage. I was angrily told "nobody gets their buggy back" when we landed and I'd stood there like a lemon for 10 mins. When we got to passport control a lady said I could have a BA buggy and I was sent on a wild goose chase to get one that didn't exist! Still carrying baggage and baby. When we got to the baggage scan the Q was massive. In most airports I've been to someone usually takes pity on you and fast tracks you- not at heathrow. They stood and watched me struggle with a wriggling, crying baby while I tried my best to empty the liquids out my bag. Then I had to open and taste cartons of milk. I finally thought I could just sit down at the departure gate and rest my arms for a sec. Not at heathrow. I had to get on a train to get to te gate with baggage and baby an still no buggy. As a result I will NEVER travel through heathrow again!

TurkishD, have a look online at Aviemore in Scotland. It really is a beautiful place. You can be as fast or slow paced as you like. There are gorgeous chalets available to rent for a week or 2 and there are shops, tourist attractions, spectacular views all within walking distance. If you look up "Landmark" near Aviemore you will get details of an adventure facility for kids/adults. It has loads to see and you'd easily fill a day there. You can also get the bus to Inverness.

Thanks ladies, I've been here 2 years and DD is 18 months. I do have a group of "baby" friends and a group of friends for me but everyone seems to busily be getting about their own lives and fitting play dates / ladies nights in around school runs, work, teenage weekends etc. I guess I've just lost my way...
