Our Department of Foreign Affairs has all our details, so when our passports go into another country, we are flagged as being in that country. It is also good that they have our details in case anything happens here. For Australia - DFAT - you can do it online in a few minutes, could save you and your family a heap of grief.

I really hope they get better soon.....but for the life of me I don't know why people do this sport, it is sooooo dangerous, this sort of thing is not unusual at all.... My husband does it every weekend, never worries me, every time he drives somewhere though, that's what worries me - its all relative.

I'm noticing a singular lack on this thread of the vitriol recently expressed on other threads about immigrants trying to obtain British passports for the 'perks'. I restrained myself earlier...why would one want citizenship in a country they don't want to live in? I don't understand how 'having to' spend a certain amount of time in Aus can be seen as a hardship if you want to be a citizen. Thank you. Yeah, get the passport, education, health, stability that goes with it, but figure out the best way how not to give back as much as possible. Either be a citizen with all that entails - ie LIVING there or don't be.

Livinia, I haven't seen one here at all, I am sorry. All I can offer is that you are welcome to use my Aramex account if you want to get one shipped here. Maybe they could pull the stuffing out and it wouldn't weigh that much for delivery. Also, I know it is unethical but desperate time call for desperate measures, but could you get one sewn up here by an upholsterer or tailor if you took in pictures of one? Best of luck to you and I hope you get some sleep soon.

jwal really there wouldn't be any difference between a 'chef' and a maid. You would still have to sponsor/provide accomodation etc. It would really just be a maid that cooked and went shopping. Just what they can do with cucumbers is different...

We have been a few times and absolutely love it - if you don't mind the loooooong drive South, Olanda Villa is great - own house on beach in Thalpe - with chef and maids and staff. http://www.villainsrilanka.com/olandabeachvillasrilanka.htm Also Galle Fort Hotel is beautiful for shorter breaks and Taj Exotica at Bentota is nice - not five star by UAE standards but lovely service, food and outlook. If you are going for short stay and the drive from Colombo doesn't appeal, perhaps you could stay at Tintagel - http://www.paradiseroadhotels.com/tintagel/index.php Anyway, we love Sri Lanka and hope that the Sri Lankans are able to rebound from these floods.
