I have always done my household shopping in DSS as much cheaper than rest of the year. Good to stock up on towels, bed linen and other bits that need replaced. Fashion stuff no not really but always get good deals on kids clothes and for the rest of the year as hard to find sandals and summer clothes in winter. Also pottery barn kids sale is well worth waiting for, bought so many xmas gift last year and many items the personlisation cost more than the gift!

Chubby cheeks at Discovery Gardens have a baby facility as do Sea Shells in Al Barsha. Kids Ventre at Ibn Battuta accept little ones too. JVT have a mums group on facebook, post your email and i will invite you as its a closed group. Ilove the JVT area, neighbours are very friendly and hundreds of kids at least in my district (2).

We lived on the small lake in Sp15 and never noticed a mosquito problem. The fountain was right in front of our villa and was great for when you had people over as provided a white noise for the neighbours so you couldnt hear the guests much until 10pm that is. Because it was a smaller lake we didnt get much passing traffic but if i wanted to sunbathe i would go behind the bamboo area that we put up as the gardeners like to hang around if they smell suncream.

My due date was yesterday and so far nothing! Been having period like cramps off and on for about 3 weeks but after a quick check yesterday, baby still high in the pelvis and no dilation. With DD1 i had period cramps for a few hours before she was born but this babe seems a bit too comfy! Dr says she will let me go 10 days over before intervention as long as movement still good which it is thank goodness. Frustrated because am really waddling now and struggling past 1pm most days. Feel sorry for DD1 as she is used to such an active mummy but is now having to contend with a sleepy, slightly grumpy mummy. Know it wont last forever but have been counting down to due date and now well...........

We rent a 3000sqft 2 bed town house in JVT for 90K, we agreed a long lease with the LL and paid 5K for a 3rd bedroom extension. We use the pools in the springs or AR as everyone else does so not sure you should rule JVT area out as DBS is less than 5 mins from us. ETA Meant to post this in your JVT thread. Bear in mind the beach at JBR is free and a 15min car journey away. The jumeriah islands club is 50aed/day for pool and gym use. Wouldn't let lack of pool influence your decision too much as there ways round everything. Beside sunless your local pool at home is less than a 5min walk away not really sure what difference it will make to the kids. Its good to have everything on your wishlist realised especially when moving to a new country but the pro's of being here far outweigh the con's (IMO). edited by nutty on 21/04/2012

Blimey Plumie! How do you manage to find all these sales??! Dont suppose you know when the next Baby Shop sale's gona be on do you??! ;) Hahaha, you're too funny ;) Seriously - I stumbles on it, went in to buy a birthday present! And then went - i'll take that, and that, and that ;) No idea about Babyshop, but Mothercare has 50-75% off selected items - LOL! Hahaha! Have been and raided mothercare already! Got a great deal on a baby monitor! :) Trying to decide whether to go back and make use of their discounts on sterilizers. On a side note, would you recommend an electric sterilizer or a microwave one? and are they generic - eg, if i buy an Avent one, will Tommy tippee bottles fit in it? or would i need to buy a specific TT one? My Avent electric steraliser did not accomodate the TT bottles and used a microwave one whilst on holiday. Kept getting burnt from he steam on the microwave. Dont recommend it unless on holiday. Got 4 kids out of the electric one although have to day the mothercare own brand fitted all the bottles the best.

Hi, We have lived in JVT for a year now and love the area, everyone on our street has kids so play out together. We are in a 2 bed townhouse as they are easily converted into a 3 bed (5000aed) and the kitchens are much bigger than the independant villas. Also in the TH you have a utility roon that the independant doesnt have. Im pretty sure the TH are 300sqft bigger. Our DEWA is 700aed/month including housing tax as we have a resonable size garden and have only just started using the AC again since Novenmer. In summer was around 1500aed No parks finished yet but the whole area is crawling with workers who are doing all the landscapping at the moment so hoping it will only be a few more months. Spinneys town centre, Hayya gym, Raffles nursery is a 5 min drive into the springs but as yet none of these facilities available in JVT..

I used to have this problem with my DD too, although she was up at 7am and then napped 8.30-11am so missed out on all the coffee mornings too. I took her to the mumcierge activities that they organised in the afternoons such as boogie babies and swimming so that i went out then. I also used to take the travel cot to friends houses and let her sleep there so i wasnt alone.

Pretty sure if you sell in EU they will ask to see a receipt if there is no hallmark. This is to stop people avoiding paying the tax on high end goods so unless repatriated and jewellery has been disclosed will be open to paying tax on the resale value.

I had my colours done by www dot amandaclairestyle dot com after the birth of my first DD. It was great, really informal but professional and i learnt so much in a few short hours. Now when i go shopping i know exactly what will suit me without taking loads into the changing rooms. I have recently went back to her to book for after DD2 is born to buy good quality wardrobe staples whilst i loose my baby weight. I love the fact she shops within your budget and can make high street look expensive.

If she accepted a job where there was no public transport then she knew what she was getting into and would tell her to quit the moaning if she didnt do her research. Let her be accountable. But she didn't! OP clearly states that they moved from an apartment near the metro station to a house with no public transport. She also says the maid is very good. Why not give her the extra dirhams for a taxi from the closest public transportation to home? Yes just reread and had misunderstood. I did however say its fair to pay her upto the first means of public transport. It beggars belief though that families are being held to ransom about choosing accomodation according to a maids preferance! If she threatens to leave because of this remind her that you can cancel her visa and ban her. Now not an ideal situation for both parties and would hate to get into this circumstance but seriously you employed the woman not adopted her. No matter how good she is with your children and of course you want everyone to be happy but she should be happy to work for a good family that makes the effort for her when they can and accept facts. edited by nutty on 20/03/2012

I also had this with DD and my scar healed nicely within a few months. Really concentrate on your kegel excercises to speed up recovery,i used to do them whilst breast feeding to get into the habit of doing them frequently. I also took Ducolax (stool softner) to avoid any pain when going to the toilet and would keep the area very clean and apply mebo cream to the area till it healed. I also had an allergy to mothercare maternity sanitaryware due to the wound so be aware of this. I am now 33 weeks pregnant and so far have only had a few times where ive had to dash to the toilet but have to keep doing the excercises.

We tried Kidville when they had the groupon offer last year and my LO (12 months) loved it! The gym was fantastic and the instructors really knowledgeable about develpoment ages and gave her tasks age appropriate .Attended a music class and they had a live band that the children loved. This was the motor city one though imagine the JBR would be of the same quality.

Email says everything you need for the races so assuming this means dress, shoes and hat/fascinator. Its all preloved (used) and have been to a sale of theirs before and was good quality for reasonable prices. To be held in the Dubai offshore sailing club on beach road at 7.30pm.

Yes i took my album into photo shop and had extra copies printed off. Even had one blown up and put onto canvas. Think there might be a copyright issue so maybe all the shops wont do this and cant blow huge up due to not being the original and not high enough resolution.

I started getting a pain in my lower back at 26 weeks, right in the dimple area with the pain shooting down my leg.It was so painfull that i couldnt even turn over in bed nor walk properly. My DR thought it was the sciatic nerve and i have been going for physio since ( 4 weeks) and it turns out its pelvic instability which is very common in pregnancy. At 30 weeks i can now turn over in bed without crying out and can manage to walk up the stairs again unaided. Have been given lots of pelvic floor strenthining excercies as wee as realignment and different stretches to try and solve the issue but have been advised that this can continue long after giving birth. Highly recommend the physio and will look into an oestiopath too.

Its defo a tour of duty! No one takes time off to take you anywhere,i get a phone call every day from my parents with whom i stay (our house is rented) with a long list of chores such as bathroom cleaning, shopping, exchanging items, calling companies on their behalf and god forbid i ask them to look after DD,she is put in a travelcot with toys and left to her own devices.I have infact refused to go home this year and have asked them to meet me at a holiday complex where we can all have a holiday but was flately refused as they didnt consider this an option. So i have flatley refused them to stay with us any other time now. If they come then they must have a hotel and now we have 2 babies they will have to take taxi's as refuse to chuffer them and get the girlsout of their routine. Sounds harsh but after 10 years of the same have to put my family first.

Mel79, there is a playgroups at the Jebel Ali Church, near Ibn Batutta, you can ask anyone how to get there iit is easy and close. alternatively get in contact with me here and I can have a chat to you...my little one is 15months. There is also expat woman playgroups which you can find on the events page here. We go to different playgroups all the time. I 2nd the JA playgroup, its on Sun,Mon and Tue,you choose one of the days and registar once there. They charge 20aed for 2 hours (9.30-11.30am) with tea, coffee and buscuits for the mums and a snack is on a rotational basis. 1.5hours of play and then a story and a sing song. Friends and family over in the marina also have plenty of activities, lookon their facebook page. Also Mumcierge.ae.

Went to Phuket a few years ago in rainy season and stayed in Amari coral beach in Patong. It rained a few times in short bursts but never the full day and the only day it was really heavy we took a cruise to the Phi Phi islands and got caught out to see in it which was quite terrifying! The hotel was lovely with a fantastic breakfast buffet, 2 pools and not in the resort centre so a bit quieter. Patong was partially busy which was good for us as it had all the amenities we were looking for.

Hi DC, I have both a bee and a MCL. In terms of folding the MCL takes up less room and is lighter than the bee. The basket on the bee is much better, can put a bag on the bee whilst empty and wont topple over where as the MCL will. Bee lies flat as does the techno (not the triamph). Accessories for MCL much cheaper as is the system. If it was for a newborn would choose the Bee,if for a toddler would choose the MCL IMO.

Yes with Dr H @ Meadows clinic. Really trust him, not quick to throw antibiotics at her and hope for the best likesome we have encountered. Fed up with this reoccurring cough though. Said on Sunday should be better within a few days and its not so off we go back again. Hope its not gone further into her chest as she had pnemonia in October.

My DD 18months old started coughing at night, then the runny nose started and now hacking cough during the day. Took her to the DR. and was toldit was brocilitus which is very common in babies. Its a lower respiotory tract infection.Left untreated can lead to complications. DR.prescribed ventolin and fenistil.I dontlike to give DD medicine either but would rather avoid it getting any worse.

Would highly recommend a video monitor (we have the summer baby touch). Didn't go for it till dd was standing up in cot and then it was a life/time saver as we knew what she was up to. Cant creep in on her as such a light sleeper so was good to be able to see her. Also has a temperature indicator and 2 way talk.
