Very well said Chez Moi  I wasn't surprised, but still a bit disappointed when yesterday's thread went up in smoke. It seems constructive criticism isn't welcomed and only Admin is allowed to decide how, when and on what to reminisce.

You need the Essential Benefits Plan. I believe it's 600-800 a year. Attached link will give you an overview of authorised providers. http://www.isahd.ae/Home/DHAPIResults

Iheartjing: First of all, your sponsor cannot just kick you out of the house. They carry a responsibility for you. As for who pays the ticket, that depends on who your sponsor is, in your case either your employer, or the agency. Check your contract for the details. Your sponsor is responsible for buying your ticket back home at the end of the contract. And lastly: your sponsor cannot transfer, let alone sell you to another sponsor without your consent. If I were you I would take Saralou's advice and contact your embassy. Good luck.

I've done it several times. It's easy and safe. I always go via Al Ain, Hafeet border station. From there it's a comfortable drive on a brand new highway (should be fully finished by now). Enough petrol stations along the way, and if you need a break there's Ibri and Nizwa for a convenient stop.

Bring the duck back where you found it. Chances are it belongs there. A golf course IS a garden with access to water. Ducks are no pets!

What never ceases to irritate me is that it takes about 4 minutes to book a table. The constant repetition of the booking, the dress code, other offers etc. And then they confirm it both by email and text message.

There's only a handful hotels that qualify "super special" if you ask me. 1. Burj al Arab is an amazing experience. August will have resident fees, and if you stretch one night starting with lunch on the first day and afternoon tea on the second you'll have a once in a lifetime experience. 2. Al Maha Desert Resort. Only an hour away and very romantic, each suite has its own private pool with beautiful desert views. 3. Banyan Tree al Wadi (in a tented pool villa), similar to Al Maha Above mentioned Alila Jebel Akhdar is a lovely hotel. Definitely NOT in the middle of the desert, but high up in a mountain in Oman, about 6 hrs drive from Dubai. Surroundings are gorgeous, the hotel is excellent, but (to me) not that once in a lifetime event. No liquor license, which may be a bit awkward if your celebrating a birthday.

Assuming that what she did is unforgivable: Book her a ticket, pack her suitcase, take her to the airport ASAP, cancel her visa and hand her over to immigration. They'll deal with her. Do it quick and hopefully you have your husband there as well, because by the sound of it you may need some help. Good luck.

i dont get married just to solve this problem . how stupid is this ? and apart from this.. my boyfriend is not the childs father. i think this will still be an issue even if we are married... if someone has a constructive answer to my first post please let me know thanks No need to get rude if you don't like the answer. Especially if you're planning on living together in a country where that's a crime. How stupid is that...?

She has a 30-days grace-period from her date of cancellation. After that you will be paying a fee for each day she stays. That means you have to start her application before he 13th of March (never mind her residency card, that doesn't matter). Soon as you've started the application process, you won't have to pay any fees. If you say the company keeps copies: does that mean she has her passport, because you will need her original passport. If she's available to start right away, let her, and make use of the 2 weeks you have between now and the 13th of March to do a trial run. 7-10 days is usually more than enough to see if she's a match to your house/family. That means you have plenty of time to start application (Typing, medical etc.) before her grace-period ends.

Rawla is spot on. In most countries income tax is mainly used to cover social security, pensions, infrastructure and education. In order to be acceptable the UAE system should therefor be seriously redesigned. Something I doubt will ever happen, given the demographics of the country. VAT, housing fee and even health insurance etc. are (in) directly linked to personal usage and choices and can thus be fairly easily taxed. Mind you, the VAT that's being introduced is not even 25% of the VAT in my country of origin. And before I get shot down for calling health a personal choice, it isn't, but government healthcare has proved to be unsustainable in many countries. So currently those services are being more and more privatised.

Part-time, Full-time, What's in a name. If you sponsor her you decide the hours she works. Can be 60, 40, whatever you need. But since she's only allowed to work for you, you'll have to provide her with a full-time salary. She'll have to support her family and make a living. Do the math: an agency will charge about 35 dhs an hour. Your full-time live-in maid will probably be happy with 2000dhs a months and lots of free time. Add the fees and annual ticket and you'll probably break even at around 25-30hrs a week. And have full flexibility in the hours she works. You save money and have a clean conscience knowing your maid will get every dh she earns instead of paying it all some some agency that charges you the world and pays the maids peanuts. Win-win if you ask me.

It may be true, it may not. In the end all that counts is wether or not you can live with it. If not, and your maid refuses to play by your rules, there's a conflict and you should probably start the search for a new maid. A new maid will most likely have other issues, so think carefully if you can't somehow work it out.

My neighbor's landlord refused to drop the rent so she moved across the street - same house - for 25k less. I also wondered if the rents did drop and you remained in the same property could you go to DEWA and adjust the housing fee as that is set against your annual rent I was pondering this earlier Our rent has increased over the last 3 years, yet the housing fee remained the same. I doubt you would pop along to DEWA and tell them this haha Not a chance  But it does make you wonder by which instrument DEWA housing fee is connected to the actual rent.

Why can't your husband and his sister lol about you? Doesn't have to be bad. As for the general subject about men changing the subject when they don't want to answer, I sometimes think that it's not that they don't want to answer, they just haven't got an answer.

Anyone's rent actually went down? I am still to meet a person whose rent was decreased. For rents to drop the rent calculator should be adjusted downward. I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon. As for things being on the downturn in Dubai, sure they are, but they're like that on most continents. Whereas last year there were slightly positive prognoses in many places, they've been nothing but prognoses which are now being taken back. We'll just have to sit tight and make it through.

Why not take the Al Jafeet border crossing in Al Ain (Mezayaa). Road works in Oman are nearly ready so it's a 4-6 lane highway all the way from the border to Muscat.

OD it appears that you too have made the grave mistake of crossing this infamous line. Gorobattie this being a rant is going to invite a mixed bag of opinions and you'll just have to accept that someone is going to come along and disagree. Why are you are taking this personally? Your over reaction makes me wonder what exactly happened with that middle aged teacher. Haha, it indeed seems I have RT. OP, I'll not quote your post as it is too long, but I did not attack you personally. I was merely giving my personal opinion. I certainly don't see why I (in your words) "should stay away from you". As a member of this forum I'm entitled to give my opinion on each and every post. If you have a problem with that, or with any poster disagreeing with you, I suggest you direct your anger and rants elsewhere.

 To be honest I'm appalled by this! Suppose I am a maid or a nanny; does that give her the right to scold me? Another thing, was she that much blind to see how my children look exactly like me minus the skin colour? I'm fuming, can't and won't let it go, I had this bad treatment many times over the years and every time I correct the person and don't get an apology at all, I am really really ****** off! To me OP seems to be fuming about both being mistaken by a maid and the teacher feeling that it's ok to scold a maid which she wouldn't do to a parent. But the poor middle-aged teacher (a term just as judicial as the accusation itself) is getting the full load because apparently it has happened to OP before. Totally overreacting if you ask me. Just let it go. Life is too short to be bothered by these things.

A live-in maid for a family of 5 should probably earn around 2000-2500 dhs. 1 day off each week, annual ticket home, health insurance and 1 month paid holiday. I don't know about drivers, but very often you'll find a live-in maid and driver couple (husband and wife). That way both will be living in your maids quarters, and generally you'll pay 4000-4500 for the couple.

I doubt it will encourage pedestrians to the area, as the distances between blocks and shops are simply to big. For me Beach rd especially will loose all of its charm ( they'll probably destroy the palm trees that now separate the lanes) and the neighborhoods between Wasl and Beach will be flooded with cars trying to wiggle their way from one to the other. Out of all infrastructural nightmares I've seen being developed in Dubai, this must be the worst!

Surely if she wants to leave after her contract is over, she does not have to 'give you a good reason'. She has worked for the duration she committed to you. And if, as you say, she was a good employee, dedicated to her work, then you have no reason not to allow her to find a new employer in Dubai. You say you work, how would you feel if you wanted to leave your employment and your boss gave you a hard time because your reason for leaving was not a good one, then prevented you from finding a new job in Dubai? hear hear!! And if, as you say, you've seen nothing but good from her, you should give her a bonus as well. Yes, it's a nuisance for you having to find a new maid, but she's a free woman and has the right to make her own choices.

Being an unfit, gym-averse, 50-something female with quite a few kilo's to loose myself, I would never ever go to group exercise classes. Because they indeed are scary and filled with slim women who look at you funny. Sorry, been there, done that. Pole Angels surely doesn't cater to our needs. The name alone.... As Twohoots suggest I'm starting with light exercise at home, but a good personal trainer would surely help! Following this thread to see if some good suggestions (out of experience, not commercial gain) come up. Good luck to you Amy, I'm with you!

Today I saw a bigger cockroach on my bedroom floor, and 4 ran away from under my kettle as soon as I picked it up. There's more now!! I need pest control recommendation please. How much am I expected to pay and how do I know they will use safe treatment methods. I have heard of case of poisoning and death caused by neighbours doing pest control, so I'm worried about who I should choose. HELP! I saw one this morning! Took me ages to catch it. I have the spray but didn't have the heart to kill it so just put it out the front probably made his way back in now!:( Roaches are about the only animals I will kill if I see them. No mercy

Sort of makes sense that the most sought after vouchers disappear. Most vouchers are never used, but Aquaventure, Nando's, Kitchen 6 etc. are being actively swapped so it most cost the merchants too much money. It's simple math for them, isn't it?

There's no such thing as a happy part-time maid from an agency. Those ladies are all overworked and underpaid. With the others, you may have been unlucky, but have you spent time working with the maids, showing them exactly what needs cleaning and how you need it to be done? It really takes a significant effort to train someone and if you're not willing or able to do put in some time, you may keep being disappointed.
