OMG, the only thing that irritates me about dh is that he doesn't pick up after himself (be it dirty laundry or dishes and glasses), and that I have to ask him to do some obvious chores because he keeps forgetting. But he always does them (apart from the picking up after himself). I guess I'm lucky judging by the first two posts.

OP, a lot of valid advice has been given to you already. It al depends on your current situation and your expectations whether or not you will be able to live on 14.000 dhs/month. You talk about a solid educational foundation for your daughter: it depends on what to compare it with. Compared to e.g. some European schools even the most expensive schools here may not give a comparable education. You talk about finding a job yourself: it depends on your education, experience and sad but true nationality and language skills. You talk about living in Sharjah: whether or not that's doable will depend on your husbands job location, the sort of transport you will be using etc. So yes, many families do get by on your budget, many more don't. It depends! So you will need to give more info for us to advice.

wme have feedback from LL...he will agree on renewal on 140,000. We agreed now. waiting now for contract. Increase from 125000 to 140000....more than we wanted to pay. But on the other hand most 2BR + Maid cost are getting more expensive. Then moving cost money and time....just wonder where rent goes next year. I just had 3 % salary increase. Rents go up to fast .... No wonder some LL's try to get away with ridiculous increases. You have explained that you shouldn't have any increase according to the rent calculator, yet you agree to an increase of more than 15% even though your LL missed the 90 days? Beats me!

Dress code is smart casual, but not really enforced. Avoid shorts though. Minimum spend for a window table is 250. Other taboes 150. I always chose for Atmosphere bar over the platform, unless our guess have small children. It is lovely to sip a cocktail while watching the sun set.

If your suspicions are right, this lady will eventually run into trouble and drag you into it. She is obviously not committed to working for you. Forget about the money you sunk on her visa, there's no way to get it back. Consider it an expensive lesson learnt. And start cancelling her visa right away (ask for her passport, you will need it). If you want her to stay one more month in order to find a replacement you could do that (as long as you hold her passport so she can't do a runner). Whatever you decide, use her last month of salary to pay for the ticket, she's only entitled a ticket home after honouring a full year of service. Although I'm usually not a fan if banning a maid, I would put a ban on her in order to prevent her pulling the same stunt again.

OP, Do biting dogs deserve a second chance? It only takes one bite to create a monster. Spot on Prettyperfect. I've seen so many threads on her about men: they cheat on you once, they'll do it again. They hit you once, they'll hit you again. And all of a sudden it's about a dog, who by the way apparently has already seen a behaviourist before the baby was born, and the animal brigade jumps to its defence. I am a dog lover and we've had several dogs before moving here. I'm not suggesting OP puts the dog down, but she is worried about her LO, I think she should be!

I always thinks dogs have a great sense of people and their characters. I am sure the dog felt that in some way the driver was threatening "his pack" so did what comes naturally, and bit the driver. I think the driver definitely needs to get a tentnus shot but you also need to counsel the driver on how to act around the dog. Often these workers are not used to small yappy dogs and become frightened quickly and will often run which just incites the dog to chase and sometimes bite. I think you need to always be careful of small dogs around small kids - often kids can be rather rough and hurt the dogs who will react, often with a nip. I am sure it is not a general trend in the dog but rather the dog doing his job - protecting his family. A little paksheesh would not go astray for the driver, too - just to "calm the waters". So it's the drivers fault now. Really? From OP's post I gather this is their regular driver, certainly no stranger. Unfortunately it's very possible the dog will bite again. Our long time family pet had to be put down after he bit one of us twice, totally out of the blue. We were devastated, but had no choice. So sad as it may be, I wouldn't trust the dog around little children anymore. And do make sure that the driver gets his tetanus shot asap.

If we have to be informed before the 90 day point of any rent increase, this just makes a mockery of the whole thing. Our LL sent us a letter saying that the rent would increae in line with the calculator. I think he was hoping it would increase by more than 10% in those 90 days. We still can't get a figure from the calculator and it's due for renewal next month !!! To be honest, all a LL can do right now is to inform a tenant before the 90 days point that he will increase as per rent calculator on the renewal date. That is transparent and fair. The LL has the same problem as we tenants do: the calculator only works 30 days in advance. So for him to abide by the rules there's nothing else he can do than inform you that rent will increase, the increase to be decided upon when the information is available on the rent calculator. Your assumption that LL is hoping for an increase by more than 10% is just that, an assumption. Not all LL are evil. No I agree not all are evil. What I said earlier along these lines was that this whole 90 days thing just doesn't work if the RERA calculator will only work for the current month. It's not even a rolling month, so not 30 days in advance. I tried our renewal date which is less than 30 days away and it would only allow me to check up to 30th April. This then gives not just us but a lot of people the added problem of do they stay and hope the increase won't rocket in the time allowed, or do they say no at the 90 day period and look for somewhere else. edited by Geordie expat on 22/04/2014 I've been following the calculator on a regular basis for over a year now. And yes, it goes up, but it doesn't "rocket". And indeed, I calculate a week or so ahead (not 30 days) but I would say that between a week and a month the difference really isn't that major that you can expect a huge surprise. My tenancy contract states only 1 month notice for the tenant if I decide to leave. Thought that would be fairly standard. And by that time you have a fair hunch what the rent increase will be. All that off course provided that the rent calculator stays in place! Agree, nightmare without it!

Binky1, you're in an awful situation right now. I'm very sorry that you are. Please don't make any hasty decisions. 28 years is a very, very long time and only you and your husband know if your marriage/relationship is worth fighting for and how it should be done. You don't have to take a break from each other, you don't have to kick him out, nor short term or definite.. You may feel the need to work through this together instead of apart. All that matters right now is what you want. Ask him all the questions you want to know, but be reminded that you ay not want to know everything. He is begging you, so he does want to stay together, make use of that and make sure he knows you are calling the shots right now. It may be inconceivable right now, but you will probably forgive him. You will never forget and in the back of your head there will always be this moment, but it will fade. In the end you decide: do you want to throw 28 years down the drain, or are the two of you worth fighting for. Take care and good luck. xx

what is this all about stars blah blah ? I guess it's like a rating system to see which posts get more likes or unlikes and that translates into credibility. Sadly falls down when certain people give the 'thumbs down' anyway just because they might not like a certain poster - this is now blatantly obvious. The thumbs down don't seem to count, only the thumbs up.

Food onboard is becoming a joke. Last breakfast I had , inedible. Last "steak" I had was a chunk of rubber that would have removed a tooth. Gotta love the 'aloe vera' yogurt as well…who eats Aloe Vera yogurt?- must be the bulk bargain yogurt- kind of like the bright pink paint you can get 1/2 price at the hardware store lol. Ek catering is a shocker. Biryani is only reliable thing- probably because mostly rice so it is cheap for them. That's probably because they spend their money on first class food: 4,5 tonnes of caviar and world's largest purchaser of Dom Perignon?! http://www.thenational.ae/business/industry-insights/the-life/in-it-for-the-long-haul-flying-16-hours-with-emirates-to-la

Now I'm really miffed, having read about the restrictions for the golf clubs I just checked the restrictions for the children and of course it change too. While one was allowed to take one car set and one stroller per child - this has now changed to the stroller only. The car seats are part of the checked in baggage and the infant allowance is 10 kg. I only just booked my flight with them this morning and wished I hadn't. :( edited by Cleopatra on 20/04/2014 For a moment there I was thinking they introduced a restrictions on the number of children ?

Well I know who t direct my fury at. I was having a conversation with 2 mothers at school a few years ago and they were bragging about how they filled their golf bags with their excess baggage. They were quite smug about it. Now Emirates have cottoned on, the real sporting enthusiasts will have to pay the price. According to these ladies, [i'>everyone[/i'> does it. Funnily enough I had that same conversation a few months ago. Someone putting diving gear in the golf bag, since diving gear wasn't free anymore and golf bags were. Would have never crossed my mind, just too naive to think of it. Some people are just too smug indeed.

And it does annoy me when they constantly talk in their own language while doing my hands/feet. It's often 2 girls at the time so they chat away and laugh and I don't know what they're talking about. I often just have a chat with them for a bit, I mean they do need normal human interaction apart from no not this colour and file it round. I think it does happen automatically, when I am with my friends and one of them is from the same country as me, we tend to fall into our language. But we do make sure we keep that to a minimum or explain to anyone who overheard what we are talking about. Recently our villa was for sale and one of the agents was Turkish. One time she turned up to meet a client for a viewing and after a few minutes it came out that the client was also Turkish - the rest of the viewing was conducted by the two of them going through my home, opening cupboards etc jabbering away in Turkish (including giggling) with me following on behind feeling like a spare part ... Most unprofessional I thought since the lady's English had been perfect at the start... Was she your agent or the potential buyer's? That would make a difference to me. If yours, highly unprofessional indeed, if the buyer's, totally understandable.
